Absolutely beautiful what a bonsai. I live in south florida where paperbark is in abundance and a few days ago i collected my first yamadori. It was a 4 foot paperbark tree growing on the edge of a lake and it has a big, hollow trunk with branches coming from the top. It's been days and it has already started to shoot out leaves and looks healthy. I don't know why this specie isn't used for bonsai more often it's a really cool tree and I will surely go out and collect more stumps and trees that i find

Hello, it good that you found a very nice paper bark tree or Melaleuca tree. It is a native of Australia and I am fortunate that we have it here in Southern California. I used to have a few but the others didn’t make it long , we had a long and very hot heat wave a few years ago and I forgot to put them in the shade so it died. Lesson learned. If you have a lot there in your area I suggest that have a lot more , they are great for bonsai but it’s not available in more areas where the pros are, that’s why it not used for bonsai. Good luck and have fun! Regards Mel

Teach your children and grandchildren something that inspires the appreciation of peace and calms spirits. Like caring for plants. Which teaches you to care for the world.
    Our world needs this desperately.

Looking good mate. Funny how you work with our natives in Australia more than people that actually live here 😉. Great work

Hi Sam! Thank you! I think we have similar weather and those trees thrive and prosper here. I have some nice bottle brushes and eucalyptus trees too. I love them. Thank you Sam! Cheers mate! 👍

Sam you are being polite. Paperbarks don't grow like that and your vids show it. Having said that it is a nice looking bonsai🤔

Hi Mel, love the tree and great video as always. I have a dwarf pomegranate pre bonsai which looks like it’s trying to fruit. What are your thoughts on not letting it fruit to direct strength to the growth. Always appreciate your advice. Thanks,Frank, from San Pedro

Hi Frank , is it due for pruning? If you prune it, it will not fruit. But if there’s fruit buds, let it. Pomegranate, you always let them fruit. Its how they are. I have one pomegranate and I plant it in the ground. It been there for many years and I haven’t got it in the pot yet. The only think I experienced with it is, if you prune it wrong, the branch would not grow anymore. But maybe it’s my fault, I still have a lot to learn with pomegranates.

Lake Elsinore Bonsai I was letting it grow to thicken trunk and branches. I haven’t done any pruning. It was in a 6” pot when I got it. I’ve only repotted to a one gal pot to let it grow and thicken trunk. So I should leave it fruit.
It’s growing great in the bigger pot. Thanks Mel

Yeah, I think so. Just wondering why the one I put in the ground 7 years ago still didn’t charge much. But the one that my wife planned beside it 5 years ago, a young thin one is now much bigger and larger.
