Mom of four who enjoys DIY and stumbled into furniture flipping and quickly fell in love with it. I learned so much along the way on UA-cam, and I wanted to share my journey and projects on here as well. You’ll mostly find furniture restorations with some home DIY mixed in. Whether you’re here to learn from my mistakes and successes or to enjoy a good before and after, I’m glad you’re here!

Hitting the Thrift Store Jackpot at Salvation Army with a $25 Bassett Solid Wood Dresser
Переглядів 1,7 тис.21 день тому
I don't know about your area, but where I live finding a large solid wood dresser for only $25 at a thrift store is unheard of. I've never seen one marked below $150 at this store, so to have found one in such good shape for so cheap made my day! This one was extra fun because my oldest daughter helped me along the way, including helping with design choices. All products I used are linked below...

I don't know about you, but I absolutely love Eastlake style dressers. They often have such beautiful attention to detail in their carved accents, and I've been wanting to work on one for a while. So, I was so excited to find this one for $50 within 10 minutes from my house. I love how it ended up looking, and I hope you do, too. All products I used are linked below. Who doesn't like free furniture that already has some prep work done? Someone gave up on refinishing this MCM chest of drawers and posted it for free on FBMP. Repairing and Refinishing a Water Damaged MCM Dresser
Переглядів 3,3 тис.Місяць тому
My competitive nature came out too strong when shopping an online estate sale, and I didn't quite realize how much the fees and taxes would add up on this dresser. The pictures also didn't adequately show how much water damage and scratches were on the top. I learned some valuable lessons and feel like I did the dresser justice. I hope you do as well. Estate Sale Find Transformation, Updating a 1960s Dresser to 2024

I happened upon this Sears Sorrento dresser made in 1962 at an estate sale. It was among other furniture pieces and a bunch of junk.😅 You’ll see me make some mistakes along the way, but the end result has been my favorite flip I’ve done so far!🤩 I hope you really love it, too. I would love to know your thoughts about this flip in the comments. Thanks for watching! All products I used are linked...
Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference: Refinishing a MCM Tallboy

How to Line Your Dresser Drawers Using Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Benjamin Moore Advance is so tough you do *not* need a top coat!! Now you know!
Thanks, Denise! I actually switched to a different paint midway, but it was a similar color. Sometimes I’ll still use a topcoat on paints that don’t need it bc the cure time is faster. It’s nice though that you don’t technically need one.🙌
Gosh i see a lot of that in my area, people want an insane amount for something that most people see as trash. I always wonder if they price pieces like that because they think a furniture flipper will probably still buy it! 😂
Hahaha this flipper was a sucker and did!🙈😂 I know better now! But it is wild the prices I see sometimes.
I would love these in my bedroom! With a matching dresser, chest, and bed lol. They are gorgeous!
Awe, thank you! It would be a lovely set.😍
I absolutely loved the lighter tone! The wood grain was really beautiful! I also loved the paper you lined the drawers with.
Thank you so much! I love this style of dresser. They have so much character and quality of workmanship.😍 I snagged a similar one for my daughter’s room that I am looking forward to refinishing, too.
I think it turned out really well! I love the color.
Thank you! I love this green, too. I was actually considering buying some more tonight because it’s on sale this week.😬
So beautiful! I'm watching older videos I hadn't seen yet.
Thank you! Appreciate you going back and watching some of my previous videos. This is still my favorite one I’ve done. It was such a great dresser.
I just absolutely love the raw autheticness of your video's, this is honestly how projects go....so glad that it is not only me 😂😂. Stunning makeover 👊🏻💪
Glad it’s relatable! Sometimes I wonder why I love refinishing furniture so much.😂😅 We keep coming back to it!🤪🙌Appreciate you watching, for the compliment, and for following along.💜💜
This is beautiful! I REALLY admire the attention you pay to detail. You earn every penny!!
Thank you so much, Melissa!💜 I certainly had to earn it this time.😅
Wow, that piece really put you through the wringer Rachel!! I would have given up on the sprayer long before you did 😅 It turned out beautifully and that’s really down to your attention to detail! 😍👏🤩
Oh thank you! I really appreciate that.😊 It certainly was frustrating! I guess that’s where it’s helpful that I’m also pretty stubborn.😂
I did a dresser like the a couple of yrs ago and I also painted it a light blue! I loved it!
Oh that’s awesome! It’s a really lovely color. Since I had to buy paint a third time, I thankfully have plenty to use it on another project.
It seriously is stunning!!! You did amazing. It is the most whimsical beautiful blue color 💙
Thank you so much!😊🫶
I thought it was beautiful! I'm really not sure why people have to be rude and mean. They could just scroll on or be more constructive in their criticism.
Thank you! I completely agree. I am always open to constructive criticism. I think people just want to be mean sometimes, unfortunately.
@Restorations.by.Rachel unfortunately it seems like it's the world we live in now. I'm in my 50's and I was brought up differently. I try to be kind to everyone I speak to. You just keep doing your beautiful work!
@@justjulee9135 I agree. I was brought up the same way, thankfully. And thank you!💜
It’s beautiful 😊
Thank you, Angela!💜💜
Love that hardware! Looks great with the paint color🙌🏼
Thanks, Leslie! It turned out to be a very pretty combo.
I am so happy you shared the whole process...not just the easy stuff. A lot of great tips throughout.
You are so welcome! I am glad it was helpful!
Wow, stunning! You earned every dollar, great job! :)
Thanks so much!😊 It did make me earn it!😂
😍😍😍
💜💜💜
I have a dresser and nightstand floating around my fbmp like this. Now I want to buy it and refinish it! 😍😍 Absolutely beautiful work Rachel! 👏
Thanks, Tatyana! You totally should - I know you’d make it look gorgeous!
Wow absolutely stunning. Your dedication to details is top notch. Have an amazing weekend.
Thank you!!😊 You as well!❤
Recently found your videos, and you do great work. The common term for when the paint or primer fills in the cracks between two pieces is called "Bridging." It is a common issue among cabinet refinishers which is where I heard the term.
Thanks for sharing that, and I really appreciate the compliment, especially coming from a fellow furniture worker. Now I’ll know the right term, thanks! Appreciate you watching!
Lovely outcome. I could never get $1100 in my area either. I need to move to Texas. LOL!
😂 being near Dallas definitely helps. If I hadn’t sold it locally then I think it would’ve sold on Etsy. I would’ve tried at least. Hope you have a great weekend, Katalin!
Hi thank you , I actually appreciate that you show all of this back and forth, since then when it’s happening to me I understand that it’s ok to do it and put extra attention to the details ( my husband doesn’t understand me when I do that ) but I can’t list it when I know there is something that should have been addressed
I am so glad it was an encouragement to you. My husband thinks I’m too particular sometimes, too.😂 And sometimes I have to take a break from a project if it’s driving me crazy. Glad to have a fellow meticulous furniture restorer! Appreciate you watching!💜
It is gorgeous! I am amazed by how meticulous you are!
Thank you! Sometimes it’s to a fault, but I want the customer to be as happy as possible. Appreciate you watching.💜
I haven't watched yet, but man, I live in the wrong place. I would be lucky to get $500. Very lucky. Now gonna watch lol
I don’t usually get this kind of price for a dresser, especially one this size. This specific one is in high demand right now. They go for even more if lacquered. If it hadn’t sold locally, I would’ve listed it on Etsy bc I saw several comps on there, too.
Looks beautiful! It was a pain with a lot of sanding and prepping! But it paid off in the end! Awesome job! 😊❤
Thank you! It certainly was a pain, but you’re right. It paid off, thankfully!
Hi Rachel😊
👋 hi!💜
Nice work. I don't think the pulls are original but you did a very nice job reusing them.
Thank you! What makes you say that? Because of the style or something else? Just curious so I can learn.☺️
I love the Hepplewhite 2 piece set that was dark mahogany and is now white with the wood top, beautiful 🎉
Thank you, Brenda! I am always drawn to the Hepplewhite style - I loved that set, too!
That dresser is gorgeous and worth the price. Your attention to detail from beginning to end is extraordinary. Have an amazing week
You are so kind - thank you!! I hope you have an amazing week as well!💜
You've done gorgeous restorations on so many old furniture gems!! I applaud you 😊 I think my favorite is the now mauve two piece set, they're both just so pretty 😍
@@kayesdigginit1519 thank you, Kaye! That was one of my favorites, too! It was such a big transformation from where it started, and I loved that color!
@@Restorations.by.Rachel you're very welcome. You're an artist with a perfect eye for your transformation projects 😊
@@kayesdigginit1519 you’re too kind - thank you!!!
GREAT Job, awesome color, glad you painted it.
Thank you, Michaela! I definitely want to use this color again.
I love it! 😊❤
Thanks!😄💜
Oh my goodness!! It was a lot of work for you but it turned out absolutely gorgeous!! I love how slowly and patiently you keep plodding along on your projects, taking all the lumps and bumps in stride, until you cross the finish line with a beautiful piece. Well done!!!👏👏😃👍👍
Thank you. It was a lot of tedious work but thankfully nothing a little Bondo and wood glue couldn’t fix! So glad you liked it, too!💜
Gorgeous, Rachel!
Thank you so much!😊
Really quite beautiful! You did such a wonderful job and I think at the very least you should have gotten the Honorable Mention!
Thank you so much, Kim! I would’ve taken that for sure!💜
Happy Anniversary, Rachel!
Thank you! 17 years, which is hard to believe! Grateful to have such a wonderful, supportive husband and teammate.
Great job!! Your dresser turned out beautiful!! I don’t typically paint antiques but in this case I would have done the same. Really enjoyed watching your process and tips. Thanks for sharing
Thank you, Lily! Totally understand when people prefer it not painted, but I’m glad you still enjoyed this one. Appreciate you watching.💜
Where is the playlist for this challenge pls?
Lisa hasn’t posted her UA-cam video for her piece that features the finalists and winner yet. I haven’t asked her, but my guess is that it will be this Saturday or the next. She does have several reels about it on her Instagram profile, which I have linked in the description. Her handle is IvyLaneInteriors.
Looks great 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you! I appreciate you always watching!💜
Gorgeous color! Meticulous work as always. Love your videos.
Thank you, Katalin! I appreciate you always watching and commenting! Have a great rest of your weekend.💜
Beautiful, I would be so scared to use the big saw. I love your work.
Thank you very much! I was scared at first and still am a bit at times, but I’ve watched a lot of others on here use one to try to learn safety and technique and have gotten more comfortable with it. It’s so rewarding to enjoy something you made yourself!
I know that feeling 😅
😆🙌
Nice job but I think your drawers are in wrong that’s why they r rubbing. You also have gaps in the drawers which make me believe that they are in the wrong spots
Thank you for that observation. The drawers were in the wrong spots when I picked it up, so I was just going off a picture I found of the same dresser online. I’ll try switching them around to see if there are better fits elsewhere.
Looks beautiful! You did a great job on it
Thank you!😊
Absolutely beautiful! Love the colour combination. 😍
Thank you! I really love how this combo turned out as well.🥰
GIRL!!! YOU’VE DONE IT AGAIN! I am loving the color combo (chef’s kiss LOL)! I haven’t see the other submissions yet and I’m sure they are also great, but this one is definitely in my wheelhouse. You are doing more awesome with each video you post. Keep up the great work! GO TEAM RACHEL! 🤩🙌🏼
Thank you for such an encouraging and kind comment - it made me smile! Appreciate you cheering me on!!🙌💜
And yes, I LOVE this color! I plan to use it again.😍
Beautiful job Rachel! That colour with the hardware is gorgeous. I don’t think people realise from videos, that the natural wood often isn’t in good condition or cost effective to restore. Sometimes filling and painting is the best way to preserve the piece and keep it in use. What people think is a warm, naturally aged antique finish is usually a toned lacquer over a stained veneer. You should have had bonus points for turning out such a nice piece while also being Mom to 4, baseball supporter, sunburn victim, celebrating your anniversary (congrats) and having a cold! Oh and making and editing a video of it! I don’t know how you manage it all! Well done 👍
Thank you! You are so right. There are several factors involved and it’s not always easy to truly restore something, especially when you consider the time involved. I ran into that with the dresser/chest of drawers I did. It is busy but I love getting to refinish furniture and be a mom, so I figure it out. I imagine I will have to go to more like every other week with videos once school starts because I will have homeschool responsibilities a couple days a week. Appreciate you always watching and being so supportive!
I think you’ve got my vote👏🏼👏🏼Not sure how you didn’t place in the top 3.
Thanks, Leslie! There were some really beautiful pieces. It was tough competition!
Stunning
Thanks so much!💜
Usually painting furniture really upsets me to see but leaving the grain on the top really saves this one.
Thank you! I know paint isn’t for everyone. Glad you still liked this one!
