Let me know what you think about this one! For those of you who refinish furniture, do you do custom work? How do you decide pricing? Do you think I should've charged more?
I love custom work, it’s guaranteed income that you can book in and schedule out, plus I love interacting with clients and bringing their vision to life 😍🤩 I’ve just released a video with my calculator that I use to price out my commission work, and most of the furniture pieces I work on in fact 😊👌
@@phoenixfurniturestudiothank you! I liked those aspects of it, too. I will be sure to watch your video. Appreciate you sharing that. I hadn’t seen it in my feed yet.❤
At 12:00, for cleaning the crack, just fold a piece of regular sandpaper, then stick that folded edge into the crack and sand. Cheap and simple is good sometimes.
It came out beautiful Rachel. Congrats on taking on a new client custom piece & showing all the steps it took for the transformation. Quite a tutorial type video, describing the different sanding pads/grits is very helpful. I’ve been considering a Wager sprayer - glad you tested it out on this project. Helps me decide. Love the alabaster color - for sure your client will be impressed! God bless.
Thank you, Julieann! I am a visual learner so I tried to include everything I thought would be helpful. That often means longer videos.😅😅 I do like their sprayers. I’ve used the HomeRight (owned by Wagner), Flexio 3500 and Flexio 5000 now. The HomeRight was a good starter sprayer but I found the Flexio 3500 a considerable step up in the quality of finish I got.
Loved the outcome!! I paint the piece upside down first then set it right side up and that works for me! I love the idea of putting paint in the top coat!!
Thanks, Gail! I probably need to start incorporating that method when I can. I did flip the chair on its back (thought I had hit record then but hadn’t). Glad the paint and topcoat tip was helpful.💜
Hi Rachel! This turned out great. I just recently redid a thrift store desk and chair for my office (exact same scale as this set) and a clever trick i used for painting the underside of the chair and desk was a trick i learned from Cory at Desert DIY. She paints her pieces upside down first, then when it’s dry she flips and paints the piece right side up. I tried it with my desk and chair and HOLY COW! Game changer. I didn’t miss any spots. This technique probably wont work for a really large piece like a dresser, but on smaller more maneuverable pieces it really does the trick. Great job as always and i look forward to your next video. 😊
Oh that’s awesome! I did turn the chair on its back for spraying the underside of it but actually didn’t hit record when I did.🙈😆 That would’ve been much easier on the desk tho. Thank you for always watching!💜💜
Also, wrapping a piece of regular sandpaper around the spindles, grabbing your whole hand around And sanding it all around works great on round spindles. It sands the whole thing front and back all at once.
That looks like a Thomasvillle set my parents bought for my sister in the late sixties. Desk with chair, headboard, nightstand, hutch with drawers beneath, and chest of drawers.
That’s so good to know that it’s comparable for your area. Prep sure is tedious but the end product thankfully makes it worth it! I had to keep reminding myself of that when I was getting bogged down with it.😅
Are you already able to monetize your channel? I see that you only have 1k subscribers but here I am binge watching your videos and you definitely inspire me! Lol for one to do better on my flips and two, to seriously consider recording the process 🙂
I’m so glad to hear it has inspired you! Yes, I have become monetized now. You have to have 1k subscribers and 4000(I think) watch hours. I make very little at this point. I’m a month in to being monetized and have made around $45, although that was with significantly less views on my videos I posted since becoming monetized. This one finally did better thankfully…..So, you have to have long-term goals in mind. I think sponsorships bring in more money than videos, but I may be wrong. I still have a lot to learn about all.😅 Happy to answer any other questions you may have! I learned a ton from @Cypress_Room as Christina Muscari from Pretty Distressed shared so much about content creation and UA-cam there if you want to check them out, too.
@@denisemariner1235gotcha. I think that’s more of an issue with oil-based or bright white paints with water-based, but I could be wrong. Thankfully this is a softer white. I have a dresser painted in this color and haven’t had any yellowing issues after 5 years, so that’s a good sign at least.

Thanks, Dea! So simple and easy!
It's beautiful! I love the color she chose! Now I'm ready for you to do my bedroom furniture 😂
It is a really pretty white. I can see why it’s so popular.
Haha if you happen to be local to the Dallas/Fort Worth area, let me know!💜
@Restorations.by.Rachel aww, I'm in Georgia lol. I could take a road trip lol.
@@justjulee9135that would surely be a long one.😅❤
Love your attention to detail. Lovely❤

Yes, I’ve seen that set, too! It’s a great design. I love that you have that memory.
Looks great. Well done. My area the price was on point. Prep is always the tedious part for me. Have a wonderful week.

Color and finished turned out great!! Very elegant and classy looking.
Thanks, I agree! I can’t wait to see when she finishes everything else with it.
Looks really lovely Rachel, great job! I’m sure your client will be delighted 🎉😊
Thank you, Brenda! I delivered it last week, and she thankfully loves it!
Harvey and Willow didn’t know what to think when they heard the cleaner brush noise😂😂
😂🤣

Just started the video and I’m wondering where you got your stool?
Amazon - I love it! I’ll update the description to include it.
There’s no actual last step! It never ends! 😂 This turned out beautifully! What talent!
@@alexandra_sa_lazerhahaha so true! Thank you!!❤
Hope that color doesn't yellow.
I’m not sure why it would, especially with a water-based topcoat. Is there a reason you think it would?💜
@@Restorations.by.Rachel White paints concerns me. I have seen kit hen cabinets yellow, bedroom furniture yellow despite primers and top coats.😥
