I've learned (with my first project being close to completion) that, much like life in general, it's a process of trial and error. I'm so glad I didn't give up and continue to move forward. It's so worth everything we go through when we finally get to the finish line. Your videos and pm's helped tremendously. I don't think I could've done it without help. Thank you Rachel! Oh, and your night stands turned out beautifully!
That’s so true, Christine! You’ve done such a great job so far, especially with those drawer glides.🫠 I can’t wait to see it when you’re finished! I’m glad I’ve been able to help.💜 Thanks so much!
Excellent in taking the time to explain step by step the process of a restoration, I work with drywall and carpentry and many times I have been guided or had videos like yours as a reference, sometimes the stress or pressure of work clouds the imagination a little or thoughts to look for new ideas or quick solutions, watching videos like this is relaxing, interesting and many times you learn something new! Keep going, dear, even if you receive criticism or bad comments, but surely the praise will be more! excellent and greetings from a distance ❤️
Thank you so much! You are incredibly thoughtful to leave that comment after the not so nice one. I am always open to constructive criticism or feedback, but some people just like to be rude, which is sad. The praise has been more than the rude comments, thankfully. Again, thank you!!💜💜
@@Restorations.by.Rachelnothing to thank dear, you move forward without looking back, you will always have people who will criticize you for everything and nothing, positive mind and focus on thinking that you are the best, never allow anyone to take away your smile, if I saw bad comments , that is something that you cannot avoid, just do not let them lower your spirits in your restorations... I tell you, I work in the area and many times it causes you to run away and leave everything behind, but having clear and firm thoughts, You know well that your path is that and your happiness too! double ❤️❤️darling!
Love watching you work and teach us the how to’s etc. You are a refreshing host to your videos and although you struggle I think it is important to share that with us because its good to know that not everything works like a snap of the fingers, sometimes there are hiccups! I love what you did with the nightstands. I was not excited about removing the doors but you know after adding the base and painting it looks so beautiful! You did a great job on these and I don’t think it looks unbalanced really, it is heavier on the bottom by virus of the base and the closed storage, to balance out in staging I would add something a bit chunkier like maybe a stack of books and an small figurine, just something to take the extra space up a bit not much just to touch. Anyway love the transformation and your videos!
Thank you, Kim! I’m glad to hear I am refreshing to you. I want it to be an enjoyable video to view. I also hope that my hiccups can help others learn along with me and show that if you problem solve, you can usually get to a good solution.😊 I’m glad I still won you over on them despite you preferring the doors to have stayed on. Thank you for the helpful thoughts on staging as well.💜
Pro tip when using the CA glue you add the glue to one piece and the spray tot he other piece. When they meet it will immediately bond. Hope that helps
Amazing transformation! The color and the handles are beautiful! The base makes a difference and modernized the pieces! Overall, they look modern and fresh!
Beautiful as always!! Great job on base! Your dog is absolutely adorable 🥰 And I love the pour spout on paint can. I can’t stand the dripping paint down the can or where it pools around the top either
Thank you so much, Karen! She is a cutie, isn’t she. She’s super sweet to go along with it.🥰 Glad I’m not the only one who can’t stand the mess created from not using a pour spout.😅
I think they came out great! You’ll get the perfect buyer. I need to get one of those pouring spouts. Do they fit both gallon & quart. I dislike the paint getting in the rim. I got a tip somewhere else to use a little disposable Dixie cup. It’s too hot to use my sprayer where u live right now (I’ve only tried it once anyway) so I hand paint etc, so put the paint/topcoat in another container, and the Dixie cup works great.
Thank you! Yes, I am able to manipulate it on a quart can, too. The cup is a great solution, too. Thanks! I still am limited to spraying earlier in the morning or later in the evening/night bc of the heat. I’m ready for fall to truly come.😅 Hopefully it cools down soon for you to try the sprayer again.
Love the color combination. Fantastic job on these. Really like the added base way more than the before. Gold pulls was spot on for these nightstands. Use the no drip spouts all the time. Drives me to no end if paint gets in the grooves of my paint cans. Husband tells me it's my ocd with messes. Lol.. true though. Have an amazing week.
Hey Rachel! Great job as usual. Just a quick tip….when using the super glue and activator, try putting the glue on one part and then spray the activator on the other part right before you join them together. That way the activator doesn’t dry the glue before you’re able to join the 2 parts together. BTW I actually like the way the base looks on the nightstands. I think it gives it a unique profile. I would totally buy those if i had a place for them. My husband and I are retired and we are full time rv’ers, but i dabble when i can with furniture refinishing. 😊 Regards, Annette
Oh my goodness, why didn’t I think to try that? Thank you, Annette! I’m glad to hear you like the profile with the new base - I feel honored that you would consider owning them.😊 My husband is in the RV industry actually. He has been for over 11 years. I bet you all have seen a lot of beautiful places! Do you have a motorhome, trailer, or 5th wheel?
@@Restorations.by.Rachel we started out with a motorhome in 2022 and traveled around the country for 6 months. We finally settled in Guntersville, Alabama in Aug 2022, upgraded to a 5th wheel and we’ve been here ever since. We live in a gated rv community on the lake and we’re super happy.
I think you're correct in saying that the base is just a little bit wide or 'chunky'. You might have wanted to take the original base trim off prior to adding the new base. It would have slimmed the entire piece down without making it feel 'bottom heavy'. I do like the color combo and I'm sure they will sell as is. They do look nice how they are. Perhaps try removing the original base trim on another set down the road.
Thanks, Lisa. I will certainly be considering that in the future. The reason I kept it on was bc it was good solid wood to connect to for the base I built. It was a good learning lesson for future ones that while it may be great structurally, it may not work aesthetically.😅 Appreciate the feedback!💜
Part way through and wanted to mention, I work in my garage too and lighting is so hit or miss. They sell hand held lights to go over your pieces to check for scratches, etc.. I hope this helps some 😊
@@Restorations.by.Rachel Happy to help. I couldn’t tell if you were doing this during the video, but in case you didn’t know, most people I’ve seen do the CA Glue put the glue on one piece and the activator on the other piece. Maybe that will keep it from drying so quickly. I bet you’re as ready for fall as I am 🍁
@@pattiobrien5408thank you! I could’ve sworn the directions said to spray it on the glue but I must be wrong there. Someone else commented to spray it on the other piece, too. I’ll do that in the future. I’m SO ready for fall, too! We’re supposed to have a slight cold front come through where it will just be mid 80s for highs. I’m so ready for it, especially the cooler mornings.😍
@@Restorations.by.Rachel You didn’t read the directions wrong. A lot of people use it to fill gaps in wood. So the directions are for that, I believe. It’s finally below 90 degrees today, actually only about 80! So excited 🍁
@@pattiobrien5408 oh good!😅😆 That’s wonderful! We had some rain come through yesterday morning and it’s much nicer. Still a little warm but I’ll take it!😀 Hope you enjoy!
So before anyone jumps on me. I'm offering advice. your glue up problem was because you were gluing endgrain to longgrain. The end grain is like straws the wood just sucks in the glue , Answer to that is apply your glue let it dry completely this will help in filling in the endgrain of the wood.. next problem when you are clamping something and showing face is going to be completely flat. Lay it down on your work bench , clamp the long board to the bench(stretcher), Then you glue your legs and clamp them into place. and just for the furture. any wood you buy should be moisture content checked. (moisture meter), You want a reading of 6% moisture in your wood. kiln dried wood doesn't mean that the moisture levels are correct, that needs to checked with a moisture meter. Also you should make an investment into a bench top joiner, DON'T assume that store bought wood will have flat and true edges..
Thank you so much. I really appreciate you taking the time to share all the helpful information and tips and the why behind it. You obviously have a lot of experience with woodworking. I always love learning so I can get better. What’s funny is that I got into woodworking a little bit prior to content creation (I did a couple board and batten walls, a built in desk for my daughter’s room and converted some cabinets to drawers in my husband’s office) and I vaguely remember some people I watched talking about similar factors but had forgotten them obviously.😅 And even funnier is that I have a tabletop joiner that is still in its box that I bought over a year ago.🙈 I hadn’t thought about making sure that the 2 x 2 sides were square. Again, really appreciate the input!
I think they would look better if the original base had been taken off before adding the new base. It kind of looks like what it is instead of being planned out that way. I like the colors and everything else you did though.
You’re always welcome to double tap to fast forward. Watching is how I learned, and I know others have found it helpful as well from the feedback I’ve received.
