So proud of you! As a bloke who’s fought with cranky old boat engines lots in the past I was delighted to see the trepidation and then the big smile on your face when that new engine started for the first time! I know the feeling from experience. It’s a great one, and it was a real pleasure to see you succeed after all those patient hours of careful, thoughtful work! You are a star!! (......& 95% of men couldn’t do that which makes you twice as clever!)
You girls kick ass, I am a diesel mechanic for the railroad and take care of the equipment that maintains the track. I have a lot of Kubota engines powering things here and you have chosen very wisely they are absolutely bulletproof . If you keep oil & coolant in them they just keep on running, plus they are very good on fuel. I have so much respect for the both of you and watch your videos with my daughter , you and Maria are great role models for her . I am going to get set up with Patreon and start supporting your videos , I really look forward to Fridays now for your new videos. Thanks TJ
Nike, here is a secret I learned to keep all of your electrical connections from corroding. After all the cleaning you did. Always put just a dab of silicone grease in the connection, and you will never need to clean them again. It does not melt or migrate, does not break down, is inexpensive. A secret of professional marine electricians! Thst is some job you did on the engine, kudos to you.
You and Maria are the two most amazing women in world. Nothing stops either one of you and you just seem to take everything so calmly and keep going, one step at a time. You are both inspiring to see.
Cory Stokes hehe, we were not so calm when we tried to move the engine on board...but that's also why that footage is missing 🤣. Too much going on to film...but usually, most of the time we are fairly calm, that's true.
I love them both so much too!! I admire them and wanna be like them!! Every young girl should see and meet them. Man they both have more balls then two soccer teams at once! Really really great role models 😍 lots of love!!!
So cool to see you and Maria doing this again! Such a massive job and quite a few of these moments 🤬 but totally worth it to see Karl back at sea! ❤️ Stay Chuffed Nike
Talk about a cliff hanger of an ending. ( : You have done a fabulous job of referbishing and powering Karl. The amount of camera angles it took to make this video and edit are enormous. Your fans appreciate your efforts. Thanx to Maria for being there for you. Together You two are a machine!!.
Why do you think it's a cliffhanger? The engine was in and running over three months ago. She don't follow any timeline for uploads, it may have been in much longer.
Mazda rx7 we do follow a timeline, all the episodes are chronological...the engine start up was a live feed...it did not have anything to do with the timeline of the episodes. And you can always see when the material was filmed at the beginning of each video.
Mazda rx7 the engine start was a live feed...so please tell me how that could have been filmed long time ago...and please do enlight me why we should be doing that...we have nothing to hide and always state exactly when and where stuff has been filmed...the only thing people have to do is read the headline of the video and see if it's an episode or a live feed...then everything is pretty clear...
It was fun to see the Chuffed crew there for moral support, luv those guys. Big hugs to Maria, she is a true legend. The problem solving skills shown in this episode are second to none. Can't wait to hear Big Red purr, coming soon to a screen near you :) I appreciate all the work that went into this episode, the filming certainly added to your workload. Thanks for sharing and fair winds.
Next time you decide to take apart your electric panel to clean it, when you go to re-assemble it, put a dab of silicon dielectric grease on each terminal before you plug it in. It will fend off corrosion for a long, LONG time !
You gals are awesome. They should show this clip in every kindergarten class in the world. Girls should feel they can do anything they set their minds to. What great role models.
Great Job! If you use just a light coating of dielectric grease of something similar on your electrical connections and their metal ends you will have no more issues. After corrosion starts it is a never ending battle. Even after cleaning ends it will still be hidden inside wire ends and slowly creep up causing issues down the road. Seal them with a light coating and no worries.
So cool to see you reading the instruction.....maybe it even helped.....we could all learn from that. Just read of a guy that replace 2 propshafts and stuffing boxes while boat was in the water! But not the cutlass bearing. I had watched the live start up so this was great satisfaction to see install being done so carefully. Cheers Warren.
Super Girl!!!!! I was a millwright in a steel foundry and watching the way you do things and handle tools you should be very proud of your accomplishments. Keep the Vettails crew busy. Live life.
A little di-electric jell can work wonders at keeping corrosion off electrical connectors. Re-powering is a tuff job to do at anchor. The few times I had to do engine work such as re-welding motor mounts, replacing engine rear seal, etc, I was always concerned about weather causing the anchor to drag and that was only for a couple days engine work. Fair winds to you and congrats on your new engine.
It must be a great to have a friend like maria to help you out on this project and must of taken a lot of stress out of it for you, Thanks for helping niki out & fixing up her boat and of course A,K,A patrice who works hard in the background sticking all the clips together to make it happen, I hope all you guy's a lovely X,mas. Fair wind's
This episode made me really happy, even though I have already seen the new engine running. 😊Karl must be happy to have such a great owner, and you must be happy to have such a great friend as Maria.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are my hero! I'll add Maria to the list. I am beginning to wonder if there is anything you two can't accomplish.
This reminds me of when I switched engines in Atlantic City, Virginia. Having sailed down from Canada, my discovery that getting parts for my (30 years old) 1 cyl Yanmar involved search in a marine salvage yard. With a plan to be heading across the Atlantic, a likely future of getting parts that way was unappealing. So, I too bought a new engine. However, I switched to a smoother running two-cylinder Yanmar. Similar to your project, I had to modify the mounts. But, I was very fortunate that a nearby machine shop supplied material, then allowed me to use their drill press to produce the two 5/8" mounting plates needed to accommodate a difference in mounting height. Other than using the marina's crane to lower the new Yanmar within a couple of feet of its final resting place, I did the remaining work of installation. I still smile that my "sea trial" prior to setting out, was to motor over to the marina's fuel dock. Just one of many great memories from about 15 years of cruising life. Don't give up Nike!
for preventing corosion on electrical contacts . look intoo dielectric grease , its a silicon that stays soft and sticky and will prevent moisture and air from reaching /reacting to the metal
Finally the new engine is on board and as others have said, you have done a great job of capturing the installation of the engine into Karl. None of what you are doing is very easy at all. Good job !!!!!
Nike, don't know how hard for you to get it, but Boeing aircraft company makes a product called- Boeshield T-9 it's a rust & corrosion protection that they use on all there planes. It's really great you can get spray or grease. I find it strange how many people have boats with really corroded thru hulls and such when it just takes seconds to spray something. Wiring is one thing I hate doing so like to keep it like new! Want to keep that engine looking like new for Karl.
Following your vlog over the last years I sometimes wondered if this would take me to a point of change in my way of living. Now I think it already did, but in a different way than Iwas thinking of. There's no need in me for "leave it all behind and sail the world". But You both taught me a new ordinary-day's dedication to let ideas become projects and projects become true. This BigRed-Video shows exactly what I mean. Thank You so much for this inspiration.
Wow, wow, wow...is right! Your problem-solving and installation work is most impressive. And then your camera angles and editing are equally impressive on top of that. Thanks again for taking us along!
You are inspirational,I love watching you meet challenges head on and figure it out. Well done and I look forward to seeing more as always. Safe Travels from Down Under

Looks realy good you have done a lot of homework, I am a mechanical engineer and have put a few engines in boats. Take time to get the prop shaft and engine lined up, I know the coupling will take up a small bit. The more accurate the less vibration. Looking forward to your next video

Put heavy duty tampons to lower the vibration on hull ! its a metal boat and u had to isolate before u put it in i know u love the noise but come on others dont :D
Very impressive in both the preparation and execution. This is not an easy job by any means and it’s not over yet (in the transmitted videos) and there is still much ‘grunt work’ yet to do as well as some intricate work that requires a fair bit of patience in achieving good engine alignment. Well researched and well planned - I was only slightly disappointed that you did not strap two kayaks together to transport the new new engine from shore to Karl.😉
Norman Boyes hahaha, we did think about it for a second 🤣. Just as a joke we wanted to put the empty box on the kayak to pretend we were transporting it like that. But then work got in the way of play...
So proud of you! So excited that Karl finally has a new heart ❤️
These are a few years old, so you won't see this, but I wanted to write just how positive and impressively innovative you are. Cheers!
☺️ I do actually see your message even though it’s on an old video. Happy to hear that you are enjoying them

Kubota? It’s a Beta, isn’t it?
Great engines. Just fitted a 25 hp to my boat.
Kubota is one of the better engines,, another that matches them I think are Yanmar ,,

Glen Vant Yes good idea!!!
You don’t get equality by people giving it to you!! YOU MUST TAKE IT
@@tomharrell1954 It's not "taken" either but rather "earned".
I gotta say that Maria is every mans dream girl chic can do anything cheers to you both.
Oh yeah she is so fine
Karl must be proud of you and Maria! And what a progress since the first video! A lot of good people would have given up by this moment.
You guys are bad-ass!! No fear!! You guys are the real deal. Always inspiring!!!
Great Job! If you use just a light coating of dielectric grease of something similar on your electrical connections and their metal ends you will have no more issues. Your problem solving skills and ingenuity never cease to impress! Awesome job with Karl and the video. Thanks.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are my hero! I'll add Maria to the list. I am beginning to wonder if there is anything you two can't accomplish.

New motors are so much fun on anything .. that first time if fires up and you know its all working !
Wow respect to you both. I only hope that if one day I have a major issue on board that Nike and Maria are around to help!
used die-electric grease on your connections... just coat them, to reduce corrosion.
Nice job.
Most days all you need is a good friend and the feeling that comes from overcoming an obstacle.
Gerald Thomas very true
The two of you are great, keep up the good work.
You two are simply amazing!
I got used to makeshift installing in my time, done right it’s safe enough.
I ever get a boat I want you two on board, always amazed at your thought process and ability to think through the situation at hand. Cheers.
I must say that seeing two strong, independent women is a joy to behold! You two are amazing. A huge step back to sailing. I'm excited for you!
I can't believe that coupling came off so easy from the prop shaft. I had to use a gear puller and very slowly add pressure and wait.
Finally the new engine is on board and as others have said, you have done a great job of capturing the installation of the engine into Karl. None of what you are doing is very easy at all. Good job !!!!!

Bravo! BZ(Navy for "Well Done")! I know tough, old, male salts who wouldn't take that on. Super. Fair winds and following seas.

Best Möves that's very beautiful, thanks for sharing. And you are right, it's not about leaving things behind, it's about making things happen!
You ladies are incredible. Nothing is too difficult for you and this is yet another video to prove that. Wow, wow, wow!
Great video. Doc Sheddy and Captain Joel were there too! I'm convinced you and Maria could do anything. Keep up the good work.
Wow you two girls are so impressive in your mechanical skills. What a fine job you are doing, for being so young. Be safe.
you are so talented! engine replacement is awesome
Wow, wow, wow...is right! Your problem-solving and installation work is most impressive. And then your camera angles and editing are equally impressive on top of that. Thanks again for taking us along!
Just subbed up to the channel. Gotta see how big red sits and powers the boat.
You are inspirational,I love watching you meet challenges head on and figure it out.
Well done and I look forward to seeing more as always.
Safe Travels from Down Under
Great work, beautifully detail! Looking forward to seeing the new engine come to life.
hi, in the video you are recovering the electrical panel and the terminals of the keys that were rusty if you want to minimize these oxidations in:
electrical connections, iron or steel bolts, aluminum parts in contact with stainless steel, genoa winder box (protect spring) ...
just use lanolin; in Brazil a meeting in pharmacies of manipulation of medicines. The region that I am the average temperature about 30 degrees and the lanolin remains as a paste but when the very high temperature is like oil but anyway the lanolin protects even when in contact with salt water (sea).
In electrical cables, you passing generously near the insulation of the wires will also prevent propagation by the cable.
You will find that any bolt fixed with lanolin will be at any time easy to unscrew.

Congratulations, I believe that with persistence, focus, work and courage we overcome all adversities, good winds to live and sail
You amaze me, what can't you do?
you are soo lucky girl.. maria is a great friend always with a smile on her face )
To stop corrosion use white lithium grease on your electrical connections that'll stop it every time.
When you use the grinder on your electrical connection you take the microscopic plating off and you're going to really screwed up..lol
Wow...Nike and Maria, I am so impressed with your positive attitudes and can do enthusiasm. What great engineering, there seems to be nothing you can't accomplish Nike. you take away all of any ones excuses, no reason not to pursue a dream. I hope you both are getting all you desired in the pursuit of your dreams.
Well done getting that engine in while on a mooring.
Always makes me smile to see you two working like this. You're inspiring. :)
We just did our first oil change on our new Beta Marine. We love the engine! I will bet that you love yours, too! Looks like you opted for the upgraded gauge package. That's really the way to go.
Aweseome! I did my first oil change the other day, too. The engine ran about 150h so far and it's a total dream.
I did take the nice gauges. Thought if I invest that much, I might as well pay the little extra. I like to see when things start to get wrong, not get the alarm when it's already very wrong ;). It just helps me to stay calm...And I thought that's worth the extra 250...
Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Thanks Nike, Maria, for your remarkable DIY ethic. I'm hoping to learn from your example & finish the drip irrigation system in the garden. Long overdue. I especially liked seeing "Big Red" getting move DC to Karl in the launcha @ about 6min 20sec - guys t-shirt is so appropriate....
I had to giggle a bit to myself when he arrived in that shirt :)
Tool time !!!
Bloody awesome job!
I wish my car mechanic was as passioned as you are!
Chapeau

well, well, I have watched qite some Netflix or Amazon Series, but your V-Blog Nike is better than any of these, just got known your blog a few days ago and couldn't stop watching it, seriously concidering to make a trip on Joana in the near future, you and Maria are really fantastic
Thank you, Jannis, I am happy to hear that you enjoy the series.
If you want to come and charter with us, you can find more information on sailjoana.com/ or send Maria an email at sailjoana@gmail.com. We would love to welcome you on board of Joana one day! I will be there in January, March and April...
Ahoy, Nike & Karl
I just loved the engine swinging from the boom with a block and tackle. :-)
Good job! Make people aware of the uge plastic problem!
Not on the hard, nor at dock. Open anchorage. Eng removal and replacement. I've been thru most of this and it was some of the most stress I've ever experienced, especially when I discovered the old footprint didn't match the new footprint. It appears you had that covered.
I do not even know you, but I'm proud of you, congratulations for the mechanical skills.
the pullstart strugle is sooooooooooo goood!!!
I am impressed by the skills of these girls
Wow...incredibly intimidating. Installing the new engine and gauges while floating in somewhat choppy waters. Kudos!
Hey Bill, it was for sure a bit of a scary project, but in the end it all went well and I was happy about the bucks that I saved ;)
Nice work!! Nike you are amazingly resilient, most people would have given up by now. Keep it up ⛵️
I'm flabbergasted at the mechanical and on-the-fly skills you possess. You don't just watch some UA-cam How-To videos to accomplish the removal and replacement and refit modifications of a marine engine. Was your father a professional mechanic in Germany who taught you your incredible skill set? I'm brand new to your channel, are you still sailing and making videos?
I really can't find words that will describe my admiration and respect for your work. Damn, you girls are good :-)
Was going to say your both Bad ass girls but it was said already then realized it needed to be said again. Keep getting it done.
Did I see Joel from SV Chuffed? Good folks! Great Job and well done. Fair seas!
Bernie Broering yes, that was him. Joel and Sheddy were guests in last week's episode as well and you will see them in some upcoming episodes as well!
Ahoy, Nike & Karl
super exiting proffs at work, Hut ab!!! Sieht ja aus wie am Schnürchen, keine Probleme Gratuliere.
Nike, I've been an engineer all my working life. I'd still be very slow to swap the engine on my boat. Respect!
Tomas West haha, we were surely not super fast...probably needed like three weeks in total until everything was done...
Ahoy, Nike
WhiteSpotPirates ha by slowmi mean never! Well done
Darn - you guys are very handy with mechanical tasks than a lot of men.
Looks realy good you have done a lot of homework, I am a mechanical engineer and have put a few engines in boats. Take time to get the prop shaft and engine lined up, I know the coupling will take up a small bit. The more accurate the less vibration. Looking forward to your next video
You are nothing short of amazing. Very impressive project.
Impressive work on a moving target! (male or female) You have made some great friends on your journey! What else can you expect from Canadians, eh?! :)
Amazing! I was waiting to see how you got your new power plant on board!
Great stuff. I'm inspired to more of the work on my boat by myself.
Wow,, You just Kick ass. Eddie from Scotland
Great job girls, love watching you do the install.
Seeeeeehr geiles Video und RESPEKT für den Job. Grüße aus Hamburg
Fantastic job Ladies. I was very impressed with how you managed the whole install so far.........
How many times can I say how much you inspire me?
Everything looks tired on that boat including you ,I think your doing very well indeed .
Good luck from old Blighty .
Put heavy duty tampons to lower the vibration on hull ! its a metal boat and u had to isolate before u put it in i know u love the noise but come on others dont :D
You two are fantastic! I think you are the greatest!!!
I have been waiting for this episode sins the Live feed,-
and you cut it short :-)
Anders Jakobsen oh there will be some more engine episodes following, no worries 🤓
Well done, booth of you did an amazing job!
Und immer schön die deutsche Genauigkeit.
Frank-Andreas Lönnig hehe, na klar!!!

Carl Michael hehe, I think you might mean my (Nike) belt? I was the one wearing the line as a belt. Or did you want Maria to match up with me? 😜
