It's overwhelming, simply overwhelming, Nike. You and Maria have done it. You have successfully repowered Karl, and re-aligned Your new Beta, 43hp, Red engine and, it is working perfectly. Huge, huge congratulations to you both. May God continue to watch over you as He has since you 1st boarded Karl. I am so very happy to experience your joy with you.
I am late to the party, but have enjoyed all of your videos up to and including this one. As a port engineer for a tug and barge over the past 40 years I have seen my fare share of of engine replacements, re-fits and miscellaneous modifications on old boats, new boats, big boats, small boats and everything in between. I am so impressed with the quality of your work and your tenacity. I don't think most people realize how working away from ones home port complicates projects like your re-fit. In short I'm impressed.
As a former submarine engineer, the work you completed to install the engine is 1st class. Well done. Would have been difficult to done in a workshop, never mind at anchor. The level of engineering you have achieved surpassed many of my former shipmates.
Seeing you reach for the manual made me smile. I was a photocopier technician for over 20 years and reaching for the manual was admitting defeat. We preferred to find faults through knowledge and experience although we were admonished for the practice by our superiors on a regular basis. I had a knack for finding obscure faults so of course I got all the s**t jobs. Great video and thanks for sharing.
You girls are BOSS! I love the tears of joy and accomplishment on your face! You can always say " I did this ". Best of luck and good, no Great Sailing !!!
I join the others in congratulating you both for another example of perseverance and a lot of hard work. Throughout your journey you have been steadfast in your devotion to Karl and being on the water. Thanks for showing all of us what determination and very hard work can accomplish. Now go and enjoy sailing again. I always look forward to your videos and that beautiful smile. Fair winds and calm seas.
I can not express how much admiration I have for you 2 ladies. Your ability to stick it out and make things happen no matter what is thrown at you is so impressive. Your being able to figure out what is needed to solve a problem, learn how to do it and then execute the solution is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. You are both inspirational and both very much to be admired. Thank you so much for your videos.
Well done. Watching you both repower Karl was just amazing. And I was wondering how to adjust the brakes on an old Peugeot 10 speed bike. You have inspired me on to bigger and greater things. Your work reminded me of another UA-cam series where I watched father and son Jaguar mechanics rebuild a 4.2 liter six cylinder engine from an old XKE. I eagerly awaited each of your new episodes with the same exciting anticipation. You did not disappoint. Bravo. It all became clear when I heard you say, "Germans always read the manuals." I flashed on my seventh grade German class in Brazil, where all I can remember is, "der plattenspieler ist kaputt." But you two could easily fix it, too. Thank you.
I totally agree with the commentary of Cory Stokes. Well said. Nike, one of the things I love about you is your emotional honesty as you make your way through the trials and tribulations of your sailing life. You are a great role model for the rest in knowing how to deal with the technical challenges of boating and make it to the end with a positive outcome. Thank you. And Joana, your the best side-kick that a friend could ever hope to have.
Yes, I'm over a year behind in watching. I wanted to say you are both awesome and capable women. I was very impressed with your skills and knowledge and it was wonderful to see your boat under power again.
I have watched and followed every one of your episodes, this is the best one so far! I feel soooo happy for you and your achievements. When you had that tears of joy moment, I couldn't help myself too. Fan-bloody-tastic! Great Job !!!!!!!
Wow! Just joined the party a few episodes back and watched the engine exchange...I have to say . . . "I am 'sooooo' impressed! AttaGirls!" Think I'll just follow until I can catch up with wherever you two are now.
Nothing but praise for you! Well done. I went through the same 8 years ago, that first start up was awesome. And to feel the boat move with the new engine, WOW. Congrats! May it be trouble free for years to come.
You earned every one of those happy tears! So impressive to see how you refuse to be blocked or stopped from achieving your goals. Wishing you, Maria, Karl and all others many happy miles together!
Excellent! I had tears of joy for you too ;-) Been watching you now and then from the beginning, it is great to see where you have gone and what you have done! May you have... Fair Winds and Seas!
Maria's an absolute superstar! She's been lending a hand through thick and thin on this engine and so many other issues. Many congrats on getting the engine done. It's an impressive acheivement.
Big red sounds so smooth compared to karls old ticker, which did sound like a bag of old bolts in the end, new engine, new horizons, I think karl got the best christmas pezzy you could buy him ever, next year hydro generator or water maker would finish him off nicely, Such a huge change in condition since you first got him, now more reliable too ;)
Nice! Considering the journey from your original engine troubles years ago through now with the new engine - you must be so proud and happy. You earned it!
That was an extremely impressive job. Had you ever attempted such a huge mechanical project before? If not, the two of you are geniuses. Congratulations.
So happy for you Nike. You and Maria have much to be proud of. The look of emotion on your face when Karl was under his own power was priceless. Thanks so much for sharing your journey with us. I hope 2018 is your best year yet. Btw, the alignment looks spot on.
I would really like to have your skills and work as fast as you do in my sailboat restoration project! I deeply admire your work. congratulations. Alberto
I know this is months old but GREAT! We had the same feeling on December 23, 2016, when our mechanic handed us the keys to our new Beta 60. What a Christmas present. Looking forward to see where you went next!
Fantastic work, you're an inspiration to everyone, I love your DIY ethic. Also your linguistic skills just blows me away. I'm British and never read the instructions, I guess it's why my stuff keeps breaking. LoL ha ha :)
I know im a year behind, but i wish you guys all the good fortune you both deserve! Your mechanical skills and ability to adapt to the present situation are amazing!
Good on 'ya. You've done an exceptional job, an inspiration to all I'm sure. Even this mürrischer alter Kauz got a little misty watching how thrilled you two were just going around in circles. :) Can't wait to see what happens when you have an actual destination. Safe Travels
Very nicely done. Thank you for sharing your work. I will be doing the exact same thing come spring time. You are a great inspiration for many of us cruiser wannabes ! Cheers
Very well done, WSP. If I may offer one piece of friendly advice: Those perforated hose clamps you used on the exhaust hose really don't last very long in marine applications. I won't have them anywhere on my boat. When you can manage it, try to invest in some higher quality non-perforated ones. Keep up the great work!

You ladies are great! I'm in the process of repowering my sailboat. Some great pointers and a inspiration that it can in fact be done! Thank you for sharing! I'll remember to read the manual!
Skyline Photographic Innovations - Aerial & Architectural Photography Not sure why viewers put thumbs down when a creator puts so much time and effort into making videos for us all to enjoy for free. At least we enjoyed it and gave a thumbs up hey 👍🏼
Congratulations! Just the smile on your face makes me love this video. When I saw the huge buildings I couldn't help but think why anyone would want to live there when they could be out on the water. You two are amazing!
Hi, I watch your posts regularly but rarely post. I love to see how you work on Karl and all the improvements. In the repowering you added a PPS dripless type of coupling and a flexible coupling. These are great but you have to know that they are not considered support for your propellor shaft. You can clearly see the shaft at 6:45m moving around, this is not what you want, it 'feels' good because the PPS and the flex are taking the load from the shaft's movement but this will all self-destruct, your cutless and the strut and the stern tube are also taking the pressure from the shaft's movement. Sorry to be the one and you can ignore this comment as you want I am just seeing a lot of $$ in parts and well 3-5-years of usage instead of 20-30yr. Cheers, loves your vids.
It's overwhelming, simply overwhelming, Nike. You and Maria have done it. You have successfully repowered Karl, and re-aligned Your new Beta, 43hp, Red engine and, it is working perfectly. Sehr beeindruckende Damen, Sie machen einen tollen Job. Es ist großartig, Ihre Unabhängigkeit und Ihre Fähigkeiten zu sehen. 👍🏻👏🏼⛵️🎉

Nike, I hope my kids and grandkids have half the grit and determination you have. A huge congrats from us here in Austin, Texas.
"All Germans read the manual!" (and then use a 2x4 to measure) Love it! Glad Karl is back up and running.

Straight away I can see the problem with us blokes, something about reading manuals, hahaha. Great work Girls
I admire your efforts. You’ve finally done it. I am so proud (why it isn’t like I did anything). Let’s see if you can get Karl up on the step!
Awesome ladies! Congrats
What you can do if you have to,
Great work, now enjoy.
Thank you.
Congratulations on yet another successful adventure
Well done!! Amazing!
Well done! And you're right - Germans always read the manual.
GREAT JOB!!!!! Congrats on a job VERY well done.
Wohooo, congrats! Hope that is the end of all engine issues!
Joy! CONGRATS!
