Thank you for writing back to me. I was presently surprised. Watching you videos, remindid me how little I've seen of my planet. I never tought of visiting Panama. It's a lot more beautiful than I imagined. When you decide to cross the Pacific, if you stay out of the shiping lanes ( I call it: taking the scenic route) you should have no problems. Have more time to sleep and recuperate. I could go on and on. It's a big decision, the first time I had butterflies in my stomach. I see it as cutting the ombilical cord wich is never easy. But the rewards in self esteem and self confidence are well worth it. You can always aks for tips on how to cross to others who have done it before. Can't wait to see your next videos. All my best ...Patrick
Thank you Nike, you and your videos are fantastic, wish I could join you. Your openness and honesty about sailing and the challenges and anxiety you face are heartfelt. Best wishes.
Nike, I just recently found your channel and, like many other guys, have fallen in love with your smile, enthusiasm, exuberance, joy and sense of accomplishment. We watch in amazement at all of the things that you've overcome and worry when things seem to get you down. For those of us who are older, you are like another daughter that we are both proud of and worry about. Your video updates are like a privileged look into your diary and also a look at the world through your eyes. I think that you are a very resourceful, intelligent, determined, brave and, yes, beautiful young woman. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey.
I am also amazed that anyone puts a thumbs down dislike on any of your videos. What is not to like about there glimpses into a world we might never have seen except for her camera.
Just found your channel a couple of days ago and binge watched every episode! I am enjoying living vicariously through your adventure. Both you and Karl have been growing in strength and dependability with each project and experience. You made good decisions to pull the boat and fix the hull, get new sails and motor. You obviously know every inch of the boat now. Thanks for all the hard work on the videos! I know how much work they are... can't imagine doing them in the environment you are in!
I have watched all your videos from start to finish over the last few weeks. I am so impressed with you Nike. As someone who remodels homes and restore vintage engine I am totally amazed at your determination and skill set. Yes not getting across the Pacific yet is a bummer but you have done soooooo much and you should be proud of that. In three years you have accomplished more then most people dream of. I have gotten the itch to buy a boat myself and do what you are doing. I just hope when that day comes I will have your determination, patience, persistence, and drive. Not to mention your appetite for adventure. And I also have to mention that I am very impressed with your filming. A lot of sailing channels concentrate on very little sailing and a lot of partying. So much different from you. Sail on girl and keep living the dream. I will be watching your videos over again just to get more inspired.
I feel a little sad leaving Karl behind as well. Can't wait to see what's next. As always, you're one of the most inspiring people. Thank you for taking us along.
Missing you already Nike! I trust that you enjoyed your family time at home and will be back for us to live vicariously through your adventures again. Cheers. Wade.
I love your videos! Hopefully in 2183 days I can be out there sailing the world with you, Ran Sailing, Adventures of an Old Sea Dog, and the rest of the youtubers I follow!
Well Just finished all 48 installments, goodness .You have done well "grasshopper" keep up the good work,I am was wondering,( was looking at your tiller handle) I mess around with wood a bit,and have a few work tables made of Oak Pecan and some ash, I use "Tung Oil"( a little pricey now) on the wood seems to hold up well, one work table I have is about 50 years old the one out of Oak,and has been left out doors a number of times for long periods form time to time, they are used for every thing from rebuilding engines to electrical work, use a little oil every so often to keep em smooth as a"baby's butt"Don't know about sailboats that much, but have used it on power boats when I was in the business back when I was younger.I am retired now for the last almost 15 years, was a Airframe/Powerplant mechanic/pilot don't do that any more don't have the ratings.pushing the late late 70s,but wish I had done what you do back in the day.You keep up the good work,be good and do good, tell your "bud' Marie (the one that did the welding, good hand) hello from this old cajun ya'll be careful out there....God Speed...
I just finished watching all of the Untie the Lines videos from the beginning. You are an extraordinary person who has had some amazing adventures. My wife always says that to qualify as an adventure you need to be at least slightly uncomfortable, but good adventures make for good stories to tell your grandchildren. I am looking forward to seeing whatever comes next.
Love your videos. I find you very inspiring that you are following your dreams and overcoming all the obstacles. Whenever I'm faced with a problem with my boat I say to myself "Niki would tackle this in an instant". Can't wait to see you next season.
I've followed you since you found Karl, and I think this is one of your best vids ever. I hope you had a good break at home, and that you're enjoying your time on Joanna right now. Looking forward to sharing your next adventure!
Thank you, Rodger, I had a really good time with friends and family back home and now working on pretty traditional Sailboat Joana for my friend Maria. Ahoy, Nike
Just a tip about driving screws into wood. Always keep a little jar of standard petroleum jelly(vaseline) onboard. Just touch the tip of the wooden screws in vaseline before driving them in. Two fold, keep moisture away but primary purpose is to lubricate the screw while driving them in. No more stripped flat or star tip points on your electric screwdriver.
Hi, for very long term and no difusing into wood, candle wax is very good too. Rub the screw at a candle. Does not stick so well than vaseline but is less messy. Wood does not change color in the vicinity.
Thx, Jimmy, I am glad you enjoyed it. It was a really great trip that I enjoyed a lot. I am glad I could communicate that through the video. Ahoy, Nike
Thank You for Season III, I found you (and Maria) a few months ago via Barry The Old Sea Dog, found him via Ran Sailing, and with Sailing Uma and Project Atticus, not forgetting free Range sailing as well, also Sailing Kittiwake my TV is having a rest. Have a good time, and we'll catch you in Season 4.
Excellent episode! The color and sharpness in the opening shots is amazing. And yes the pain felt when leaving the boat to fend for him self for a while... very recognizable :-)
Travel Diva the season was finished, that’s why there are no more videos right now. We always take a little break between seasons. As I said in this video, I was headed home for some time and I also helped a friend with her charter business for some months. We will start season 4 soon, so stay tuned 👍
Time and tide wait for no man (or woman). Interesting to see the big difference in the waves in the shallows at low/high water. Another great video, thanks for sharing. Ant & Cid x
Wow 1.3m on the depth finder and still not grounded? That's amazing! Karl has shoal draft, very handy for exploring nooks and crannies inshore! Well done.
Nike loved the video. The music was fantastic and you are one brave lady. Wishing you safe travels and I'll be waiting for more adventures. The best I can do is play around in my Alabama lake with my Catalina 22, which i grounded once.
Always loved your channel Nike... seen you advertised in a boating magazine years ago and watched every episode. .. It took me a weekend of catching up 😁 wish I was there 😎
Forward scanning sonar $700 US for thru-hull transducer and displays on your monitor with existing electronics. 15 metre to 200 metre forward underwater scanning and mapping sonar.. Your aluminum hull may make it easy for mounting the transducer appropriately. A handy accessory for river deltas where sandbars shift or anywhere shallow.
RVH MON oh yeah, sweet little device. I think I am fine with the one I have for now. So far, it’s been working out quite well and those 700$ are better spent elsewhere. But I do see how it’s a nice little gadget to have if you have some spare $$$.
The breakers at Boca de San Pedro are as clear as anything on the Google Earth image view, yikes! Between that and the shallows at Los Higueros (also very visible on Google Earth), that was the most arduous navigation to Check-In that I've ever heard of. No adventure is too much for you!
I e done the pacific 5 times from many directions and the worst is from New Zealand the islands and hit a few cyclone squalls , from nz is the worst if you get it wrong from Panama it’s a long way but good sailing , go for it
Just read your Facebook post about not achieving much... No ocean crossing and so on.... The re-power project was so much cooler! You get a big confidence boost from stuff like that. If you can overcome a disaster like that there is nothing much that you can not do . And no matter where you go you are bound to run in to wonderful people. I quit my job and sold my house in April this year and am currently working on my 41ft Steel ketch in the Netherlands. Even on the hard my neighbors have the coolest stories and good advice..... Haven't sailed at all jet and loving every moment.
Nike, you have convinced me that if I ever decide to head out to do some blue water sailing I will choose a boat like a Southerly or Alubat, both with swinging fin keels that provide for minimal draft when sailing in shallow areas. You must be exhausted from sailing in such shallow waters.

Thanks for posting Nike. Reminding me that the charted spots are also not what they seem to be sometimes... Arrrrggh, more than just the whitespots making for interesting passages. Sure to raise a pint to Neptune, Karl and Nike, and all other kindred next drink, cheers!!
Good editing. The soundtrack is upping the intensity of the possibility of getting stuck in the shallows. 😊 I'm curious the story of the washer wedged in the front panel of your depth finder. Does this keep it from rattling when under engine power? Great video again Nike.
;) oh, that just keeps the front panel inside the box...I need to put some new screws into it...Was basically just slacking on my end...put a washer into it instead of fixing it decently ;)
How about if you take a fish finder and point the sensor forward and not downward. You should be able to see a little better where there is a gap in the sandbar. Did anyone try this yet?
Hi love your videos The compass that you’re using in your cockpit can you please let me know the make of it and I’m sure it’s nonmagnetic thanks so much
Oh that's excellent news.that sounds like perfection to me..better than my day driving around in a heat wave with a shirt and tie on😅..I look forward to seeing it .....take care 😊🇬🇧
Hi Ruthie, I just got back to Karl about three weeks ago and today I started sorting the data for the first episodes of Season IV. It's all not quite sure yet, but we hope to be back online with video updates in four months from now. I hope you will come back when it's time to Untie The Lines again. You can follow real time updates on facebook.com/whitespotpirates and www.instagramc.com/whitespotpirates in the meantime, if you like. Ahoy, Nike & Karl
Because I know you enjoy woodwork and you love Karl and are always prepared for the unexpected.... I have found a little project for you. Shape up a new Tiller. Would be handy if you ever needed it. ;)
When you describe the feelings of Karl as you leave him alone, I get flash backs of Wilson the soccer ball from the movie Cast Away with Tom Hanks. Somehow I think you need to involve yourself with a little bit more human interaction....Lol. I see a ring on your wedding finger, but have not heard you say anything about why you wear it. Can you tell us the story about the meaning behind it if that's not to forward of me? Love watching your videos. Cheers! :-)
Chris Gonzales I had asked her about the ring in a previous episode. She said it's made of wood and I don't recall where she got it but she just liked it and now wears it. She also said that she doesn't have a significant other.
Hey there, yes, all is super good, thx for asking. Sorry, we finished Season 3 and as usual we are taking a little break between seasons cause I had to go and work a little bit for a while and go visit family and friends as well. But I am back on Karl now since a couple of weeks and I hope we will be able to start Season 4 in a couple of months. Hope you stay tuned till then! Ahoy, Nike & Karl
DenonClipper I went home and then worked charter with Maria for a while. Sorry, I thought it was obvious that it was the end of season 3 since I said "and more about that - I don't know when" at the end. Maybe it was not as obvious as I thought 🤣. I am back in Karl since a couple of days and just grooving back in...but not 100% sure yet if I will continue with the videos. If I do, then we would be starting again in about three months from now. Sorry if I worried you by not posting. Everything is 👍 Ahoy, Nike & Karl

Anchoring to be safe is always good, Nike. You did good. You have courage and perseverance I have seldom seen in any man. You are a sailor, my dear.

Wow 1.3m on the depth finder and still not grounded? That's amazing! Karl has shoal draft, very handy for exploring nooks and crannies inshore! Well done.
I only have 1.1m draft. And when my depth sounder shows 0.7m, then I am on ground :) So it was still pretty ok :)
Nike loved the video. The music was fantastic and you are one brave lady. Wishing you safe travels and I'll be waiting for more adventures. The best I can do is play around in my Alabama lake with my Catalina 22, which i grounded once.

I really miss your weekly updates!
Happy to see in the other updates that you are back with Karl!
Really nice video that. Very well done. Thanks for taking me along.
great videos ........ you rock girl and enjoy your family time ... and hurry back to karlpeace
All the best nike with your movie launch ;)
Nike, you are the best!
Nike, you have convinced me that if I ever decide to head out to do some blue water sailing I will choose a boat like a Southerly or Alubat, both with swinging fin keels that provide for minimal draft when sailing in shallow areas. You must be exhausted from sailing in such shallow waters.
for that, they are definitely a plus! For sailing upwind not so much........;)
Ahoy, Nike
Really nice guitar MUSIC, who? To bad you were in such a rush but glad you got away from the lightening storm unscathed... lots of breath holding in this episode!
Hopefully you can stay aboard your rebuilt FLOATING dream boat and find many more safe havens!
I'm totally familiar with dolphins and birds! But now you have my curiosity up, what was the "What not"??
Great video.
great vid. thanks :-)
Do you always sail alone, we enjoyed your video's keep them coming...:)
She has had people join her from time to time.
I think, I sailed solo for about 2/3 of the time and had crew for the rest.
nice job thanks
simple question, NS ... when you started this adventure, in your Wildest Dreams, did you ever think you would be so tightly tethered to Panama ? ... Bart
Ни слова не понимаю но почему-то так интересно.)))
I hope your ok. Missing your videos!
All is very well here. I am back on Karl since a couple of weeks. We hope to have videos back up in about a three months from now. Fingers crossed!
Great! Good to hear.
Just got on board. What a gal I love smart woman that have a little mystery all rolled up in a nice little package of joy.. Love it girl ~
Upon your return do you intend to cut the Panama umbilical cord and go cruising in other exotic destinations? Or is this the end of Karl and on to full time charter work on Joana.
hm, no, I don't think that full time charter is for me...I am just giving Maria a hand. But not sure what's next. Will have to see when I get back to Karl mid May...Will keep you posted.
Ahoy, Nike
Hope your fit and well and you have seen your friends and lovers I love your vids and you look happy.🇬🇧👍👍👍
Suerte!
Hasta La Vista and Goodluck.
Thanks for posting Nike. Reminding me that the charted spots are also not what they seem to be sometimes... Arrrrggh, more than just the whitespots making for interesting passages. Sure to raise a pint to Neptune, Karl and Nike, and all other kindred next drink, cheers!!
Great video again Nike, but a little bit” shouty”. Had to turn the volume down!
Ian Burne
Boo Hoo you tart.. She`s happens not to be in a recording studio.......
Until next time!
Hi love your videos The compass that you’re using in your cockpit can you please let me know the make of it and I’m sure it’s nonmagnetic thanks so much
Missing my favourite captain vlogs nike...hope all is well my beaut 😊

Can you post the cost of dry docking in Panama? Please.? Beer Kisses and beers...
Where are you now? Really missing the episodes.

I also feel sad, 2 month .....
I approve the name of the boat. Weird name for a boat, but cool!
You are a brave girl.
Because I know you enjoy woodwork and you love Karl and are always prepared for the unexpected.... I have found a little project for you. Shape up a new Tiller. Would be handy if you ever needed it. ;)
Wayne Jenkins very true! Might have to think about that one ☺️ never ending boat jobs....🙄🙈
What’s your plan this year
"But more about that...I don't know when..."; da fehlt doch dann was am nächtsen Freitag, ich hoffe wir müssen nicht zu laaange warten ! :-)
hm, ja, vielleicht eine Weile....:( Mal gucken...
Ahoi, Nike

So are you spending rainy season 2018 in Panama? It’s the cruising season south of the equator. Are you thinking of selling the boat?
no plans for selling the boat so far, nope.
Nike, where have you gone? Did something happen?
DenonClipper I went home and then worked charter with Maria for a while. Sorry, I thought it was obvious that it was the end of season 3 since I said "and more about that - I don't know when" at the end. Maybe it was not as obvious as I thought 🤣.
I am back in Karl since a couple of days and just grooving back in...but not 100% sure yet if I will continue with the videos. If I do, then we would be starting again in about three months from now.
Sorry if I worried you by not posting. Everything is 👍
