You go from expressing understandable high anxiety to your concern over getting Jim into a difficult situation to the exuberance and joy of finding a stunningly beautiful site in nature and a quiet picnic to the practical of picking up other people's trash to the finish of letting Gypsy Jim say your weekly sign off. You are a beautiful inspiration and wonderful spirit. Thanks for sharing.
At the time the drone scene showed up I started silently screaming: YAS! YAS! It was breathtaking! Thanks for letting us see the world through your eyes! ❤️
Everything you express in & about the storm is spot on! Fear & anxiety are good for us in situations like that. Trust yourself - you are a Very smart & able person & you can handle whatever comes - especially since you take it seriously & think through your options! Thanks for your honesty & candor & keep it coming. Jim is a very cool soul 😀
Great to have you back Nike. You are right about nature. It does bring you back to life. I just had a similar experience this past weekend. Keep up the good videos. And keep on smiling. You are living the dream even if there are up's and downs.
You can do it as before , single sailing life is brilliant , all you have to do is think for another pair of hands , think ahead , setting your boat up well is important , keep going your doing so well the world is wanting to share your travels , thanks
Hi Nike, I'm happy there's a new season. Being a bit a solo sailor myself, I recognize the anxiety. Each spring, when I start sailing I feel the same, even wondering why I did like it last year. And that's just on a lake I very well know. As time goes by the joy grows. Until the trust is back entirely, just be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry. Calm seas and fair winds to you. God bless.
Abje72 it’s so funny you say that. I sometimes wonder the same thing and ask myself how the hell I could enjoy some of that before 🤣. But you are very right, the joy totally comes back and is a great reward for fighting through the initial anxiety boost! Thx for sharing, made me feel not so alone with these somewhat weird feelings ☺️
Thanks for sharing your adventure. You're right, a little anxiety is good and keeps you focused. Too much will paralyze you. Hard to get over those feelings but remember you know what you're doing. Trust yourself and your sea(wo)manship. Beautiful views and waterfall, drone shots were great and inserting coordinates are helpful. Looking forward to the next video. Enjoy your time out there!
I love your take on life. When I’m overwhelmed and stressed due to my circumstances, I retreat to nature just like you. It’s people like you that inspire me to get away from the city and enjoy a different way of life. I’m a new subscriber and I just started watching your videos. I’m glad there are women like you in the world doing this. Peace and Blessings Bryan from Vancouver
pinebearclub hey Bryan, welcome to Untie The Lines then ☺️. Happy to hear that my videos get you into nature more. And you have such beautiful nature around you up there! Enjoy it!
Thanks for sharing. I have found the same thing, if I say prepared and up to speed, with things like maintenance, ground tackle and the weather it calms my anxiety about the unknowns. I used to have a habit of starting my engine prior to all big weather events, just to make sure she's ready in an emergency. I think there's a balance to be struck between being prepared but not neurotic. Funny story, years ago for my first big weather event on the hook, wind forecast for 25-35 mph, I sat in the rain, in my cockpit for 2 hrs. at the helm with the engine idling. I have also meet boaters who have the opposite attitude, you know the whole 'island time,' thang, but it usually catches up with them. By all means have a great time but be prepared. Fair winds.
You're right about one thing you're very handy with your tools and whatnot and dedicated to Carl but sometimes you got to lift your head and look around and enjoy the view LOL wife and I wish you well sweetheart Reef Runner out
take care in that heat, i went mountain biking all day once in tropical heat (Daintree - AU) and i ended up with heatstroke, i have never been able to handle the heat since. I was lucky we were camped near a cold creek and i was driven back to camp and submerged for 30 mins - probably saved my life
I thought I was the only one who got anxiety while on the water. I'm very interested to hear Gypsy Jim's story, at least bits and pieces, you know it's good, he's a likable dude.
Great video keep it coming your an inspiration for many solo sailers and dreamers. I sold my plane and am looking now for my sailboat. Thanks again Nike
OK, I just had to LOL at 2:00. You had been through a vivid thunderstorm and you are telling us how your neighbor Jim dismissed it as irrelevant, yet you can hear a chainsaw starting up in the background. As a person used to dealing with storm damage, I just want to say that thunderstorms, blizzards, monsoons, etc., are of no concern until the chainsaws come out. If you need a tractor, it was far far worse. I loved the video and I love the people you introduce us to, especially that young couple on the bus with the baby LOL. I'll have to look up Jim on the webz.
Great episode! Gypsy Jim, one of the world’s characters ... thank goodness for him and folk like him. And huge admiration for you too, Nike. I don’t know any sailors who aren’t apprehensive about the powers of nature ... I’ve been sailing for more than half a century and I still keep a weather eye wide open! In fact, as a singlehanded sailor I keep both weather eyes open. And I did that even when I was the captain of an aircraft carrier ... with 1200 others in my crew, I knew it’s the wind and weather that are beyond our control and that we have to be on watch to manage. Stay well, sail well ... more about that next week. 👍⛵️😅
Nice to see your videos again. Does In Motion have a website? It's such a noble cause and I am happy to see that many people are embracing cleansing our beaches and oceans of trash.
Viajedelavida thanks for your interest in our in mocean project. We only have Instagram and Facebook so far. You find us under @inmoceanorg. In the long run, we are planning to establish a website as well, but right now we don’t have the time for it in-mocean.org/
I am really wanting to get into sailing more. My wife and I have three awesome little girls we are raising so it keeps you from just getting up and doing life without some restriction. That being said, hopefully we can start getting into exciting adventures like yours. In the meantime it's cool to watch our videos. You keep it real. I would much rather watch your videos than anything on TV. Stay safe out there kiddo.
nice to see you back at it. Expressing your fears is good way to get rid of them. I suspect in some ways after hanging with the parent and they leave, you feel the loss of parental security and are forced into the “you” of travel. Gypsy Jim is cool.
Nike, it's easy to second guess our emotions and think that experienced sailors would have so much confidence that they would be concerned. But, rest assured that good captains are paying attention as well even when they don't show their emotions. They have learned to keep their heads about them because they must be ready to jump into action. You're becoming that kind of person. You don't seem as frightened as you did in the beginning. Although, maybe anchor so that your boat can safely swing 365 degrees. Smiles!!
Know little about as I've just subscribed mostly because of your bravery, okay your beauty as well , but mostly my curiosity of your story. I'll have to start from the beginning. Ciao for now
First time here. Delighted that behind oily hands, facial grease stains, and lovely smile, there is a daring, yet, fearful person. Not sure that anxiety and solo boating way out to sea can coalesce under the same skin, but you wear both rather well.
I am very safe in Rotterdam city marina tied with 6 lines to the dock but every time I wake up at night I check if the lampposts are still where they should be :-)
Nice video, well done. Question, do you own hiking shoes? Walking trails in slip flops is not a good idea. You can always put them in your pack if you want to have them with you. 👍👍
First good adventure. That was quite the climb but you and Jim made it look easy. The waterfall excursion was definitely worth the effort. What a spectacular view and such a fantastic place to go for a dip and cool off. I felt sorry for Gypsy Jim. He seemed like the years of solo sailing had begun to weigh on him. I got the feeling he was on a ride he couldn't get off even if he wanted to but maybe I'm reading too much into his life from just a little glimpse.
LOL great episode, totally know what you are saying, nothing like a good thunders storm at night to get sailors on edge. probably hardwired from the stone-age (or before) BTW forgot to say really enjoyed the episode with your parents, have not heard german "chatter" in ages, all good stuff.
I remember the comments of a jet test pilot about how he managed fear, he said he was lucky because he had little imagination so did not dwell on what might happen ! it might be a good time to step back and reassess where you are now - personally, I think you are beyond Karl, you are ready for a better boat. You have done wonders to make him safe for his next owner so don't be sad about it. You might enjoy basing yourself somewhere more sociable as well (a good party with people your own age can do wonders). Just a few musings of mine.
So silly i had to reply. Karl is as good as any boat for cruising. karl has had every single system rebuilt and nike knows that boat like the back of her hand cause she did it all. She has done everything. New rigging, sails, engine, electronics and all the other essentials. Karl is ready for the south pacific. Nike is ready too but she just does not know it yet. I also think she should take at least 1 person who knows sailing maybe 2 with her on her crossing into the south pacific. Just to give her company and to take the anxiety out of her.
Just one question - if money was no object, could you find a better boat than Karl, of course you could, we all could. I agree with you that Nike could take a sailing dinghy across the Pacific with her eyes shut! She's my hero in terms of her courage, work effort and competence. it is enjoyable to have competent crew, I definitely agree with that too.
@@tossed_about another silly question dude. Of coarse money is a object for everyone. I dont agree with the dingy comment. She is just a few years sailing and yes she has learned much and sailed far but experience is still not on her side . Sailors are always learning. But knowing youre boat is the most important part of cruising. Not how much money youre boat cost. Or its reputation. But knowing that every nook and craney on the boat you have been there. I am guessing you have never owned a vessel before. Once you put the kind of energy and time reguardless of how much money spent, the boat becomes part of you. You know exactly when something is not right. And that takes years. I am sure she would not trade up or down .karl is her boat.
Dick measuring contests are the silly things .. the only thing I am embarrassed about is not being a patron. Given your robust support of Karl I hope you are.
@@tossed_about no i am not a patreon. I have my own boat that is 45 years old and needs every single dollar i can get my hands on. And i have a young giflfriend who acts much the same way. And i am retired
Youre anxiety is justified. A lightning strike will do massive damage. It happens a lot. But surprisingly not more often considering the 50 foot masts on our boats .Its my worst nightmare. I have had 4 friends boats anchored next to me over the years who have had direct hits. Massive damage .everything from holes in the boat to fire on the boat. Its no joke.

It`s a very brave and beautiful thing she is doing, taking on the world, her world.. I don`t know her personally but I am able to `see` her clearly. Hi Nike. I have terrible anchor anxiety when I am by myself and the wind starts picking up. The shrouds on my boat also start singing an ominous tune even at 10 to 15 kts. Being anchored near land does not help either. Have you thought out a plan if the anchor starts to drag?
JohnnyA AA = anchor anxiety 🤣 🤣🤣. Strategy depends on where anchored and what’s around (boats / rocks etc). If free then pick up and re-anchor when squall is over or in a spot where it’s easy to anchor during the storm. Otherwise try to support with engine (e.g. if possibly another boat sits above my anchor). If you have room putting out more chain and let it reset might help, too. I think it really depends on your situation. But I usually do go through a “what if” plan in a situation like that. So far I have picked up anchor and re-anchored, leave anchor and chain behind with a fender on the end (someone dragged on top of me and got his rudder stuck in my chain), head out and anchor after storm with second anchor and just simply supporting a bit with my engine (cause usually the storms are short 1/2 hour to 3/4 hour ones here. What’s your strategy?

So glad your back
This waterfall footage is great. I also learn from your kind advice about happiness. Best wishes from Melbourne, Australia

Nice!
Yes second coffee, no sinking!!
You have such courage & Jim sounds a bit like Keith Richards :)
He really does!
He's the real deal.
What kind of boat does Jim have?
That’s not Jim! That is Keith Richards.
I didn't make the connection until you wrote it - absolutely spot on!
I really think talking about your depression must help.
