Which Joe Taslim movie do you like more: Mortal Kombat, The Raid or The Night Comes For Us?
The Raid by a long shot. The others are fun but The Raid is an action masterpiece
Thank you for breakdown this fight scene. 🥰🙏
I'm sure Indonesian and foreign fans are very hype. To be honest, I'm confused about what version to request for Joe Taslim. between mortal kombat where he fought hanzo for the first time, or maybe the raid 1 when he fought mad dog.
both scenes are quite brutality for me. 😁✨️
on the other hand, I'm still patiently waiting for you guys to do a breakdown of another action Indonesian movies.
Warrior!
@@scarletwolf9630which other Indonesian movie would you like to see us breakdown next?
@@ScenicFights To be honest, this really confuses me. But, I'm curious.
There is one movie that caught my attention. (I don't know if all of you have watched it or not.) Wiro Sableng 2018. This movie is an action comedy genre with the main character from Vino g. bastian. Lots of funny, interesting fights, also several senior action players such as Cecep and Yayan (if you guys remember them in the raid 1 or the raid 2) . After all, Only a few know how interesting and funny this movie. Maybe this will be an interesting challenge for you guys.
Don't worry. I'm still holding myself back from saying the next action Indonesian film that I know of so far. 😁✨️
Guys. Buy Logan a soft pillow and an ice pack. Don't break him
nahhh i dont like him THAT much
If he dies, he dies.
Joe Taslim is also fantastic in The Night Comes for Us, and the fight scenes between him and Iko Uwais were extremely entertaining. I don't know if it was an exaggeration, but I read somewhere that the cinematographer for Mortal Kombat asked Taslim to slow down when throwing techniques, because he was so fast that the camera wasn't able to "see" his movement.
Yep that true, Joe taslim carry 20kg extra from that sub zero armor and still moved so fast
I don’t know why but that’s such a charming name for a film, “the night comes for us” could be so many things and is equally interesting
The cameraman of The Raid 1 also say to Iko Uwais to slow down when they do the shooting. Iko is too fast.
Just like the bruce lee story
it was not an exaggeration..he is a legit black belt judokan...i think they forgot to mention that he was not only a national team Judo athlete, but he is also a multiple gold medallist..he is obviously blessed with a good look and offered to be an actor, which is why he retired early as an athlete..he is among the world elite Judokan
I’m a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo…and Iko kicking his shin against that girder just killed me inside. 😣 😂
You can feel the pain in that sequence 😩
Yeah, no joke, I was clutching my leg for several minutes after watching that. Put on a heating pad and everything. 🤣
I think we all felt that pain in our shins! I did
I havent been the same since watching this schene
As a first degree black belt in TKD I felt that shin collision in my soul
8:11 Always surprised me how a lot of the other strikes you see don't make you cringe or "feel the pain" on yourself, but MAN, EVERYBODY that reacted to this scene flinches when they see Iko kick that metal bar.
Unless the character of Iko purposefully held back on that kick in fear of exactly that happening, that's an Anderson Silva shin break, 100%.
Thanks for the Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman flashback🤢🤢🤢
Probably because it’s more relatable. Almost none of us know what it’s like to be punched full force by a guy not wearing combat sports gloves, but all of us can relate to hitting our shin or knee on something really hard.
@@ScenicFights You're welcome. 😂
But seriously, I'm even more certain it would be a break of that level because Iko's Character hit right on the corner of that metal beam.
Smaller surface area to hit.
@@vector4632 ah, smaller area~
In light comparison with a feet that stepped full force using a very thin stiletto. 😅😅😅
@@ScenicFightswhere have u been
Joe taslim is mainly a judoka, but he trained other martialbarts as well in his younger days. Two at least, wushu and taekwondo. And obviously he learned some silat moves since the raid days. A truly versatile martial artist 👌🤟
Extremely talented martial artist. Joe Taslim is awesome.
According to Joe, he did a couple years of Wushu but the majority of his training before the Raid movies was in Judo. In fact, he was part of Indonesia's national team. He says that he learned all about striking and kicking by working with Iko and Yayan on the first Raid movie.
(Got this from Scott Adkins' interview with him on The Art of Action podcast).
Joe Taslim is Champion of South East Asia Judo Championship in Singapore 1999
Silver Medalist, SEA Games 2007
Gold Medalist PON (kinda like Indonesian Olympics) 2008
"The Night Comes for Us" is probably the most violent movie I have ever seen. It's amazing, brutal, soul-crushing, and entertaining as hell. Thanks for doing this one!
soul crushing indeed
nah wait till u see al the raid series, the corridor fight with machete, baton, the kitchen fight with kerambit
@@car_enthusiasm6411 Series? I thought those were movies with sequel?
@@user-ef6sp1cu8r series as in Mission Imposible series or John Wick Series. The Raid only hv 2 movie so far but the're always buzz that there will future spin off and sequel.
U must see the raid
I just love how visceral and "heavy" the scenes feel. You can really observe how they're hurting and tiring as the fight goes on. Perfect techniques and situational foresight became rarer and rarer, and mindless slugging becomes more prevalent as it devolves into nothing but endurance duel. Like, to the middle, you get more unfinished and cancelled techniques, and at the weapons slog at the end, Iko wasn't energetic enough to do much slashing anymore without risking his guard.
I'm gonna be real, I barely followed the plot, but this is a perfect mix of using the essence of the characters and the scenario to make something that is as stylized as it is ugly. The little touch of Iko starting mostly unscathed, adjusting his suit, having just saved Joe, shows the progression from him probably not thinking about any potential outcome other than winning or maybe calling a truce, to getting to where they're both pretty much dead, and definitely not anywhere close to the shape he was in before
The Night Comes For Us fight scene looks more like a horror movie than a martial arts movie. 😳
That's because the director of this film tends to make horror films more than martial arts action films. This film director has made horror films entitled "VHS 2(2013-segment Safe Heaven"), Macabre (2009), May The Devil Take You (2018), and May The Devil Take You Too (2020).
@@hellothere1568 ok. That makes sense now. Thanks for clarifying that. 👍🏽
@@andrewah15 You're welcome
This final fight might be my favorite fight in any movie. It's just so intricately crafted with such detail and the stunt work is perfect. The emotion and story behind it just makes it that much better. The story telling in the fight is amazing too. Taslim is outmatched but his absolute drive and willpower keep him in the fight. So good.
drive, willpower and JUDO
Close contact, fast pace, graphic, and grounded
LET'S GOOOO!! IT'S FINALLY OUT! I'd absolutely love to see more fights from this film be broken down. You guys did such an amazing job! Anyway, as a film I definitely like The Raid more, but that one fight from The Night Comes For Us has just stuck with me the most out of all the fights from The Raid.
Glad we finally was able to get this out for you KillerTacos! You may rest peacefully tonight lol
U the man!
@@ScenicFights Haha thank you so much guys, you've genuinely made my day - my whole year in fact. Absolute legends!
Thank you for your service (and your constant pestering)
@@anuragneelam8527 Hahaha thanks bro. It's time for me to find another fight scene for them to hopefully make a video about 🤣
Dude, yes! Been looking forward to this one. I loved this movie, and even though it didn't get as much attention as the Raid movies, it proved to me that Iko Uwais is a fantastic action movie hero. Seeing him play the antagonist was a surprise too.
16:36 The person who loses a knife fight bleeds out in the street. The winner gets to bleed out in an ambulance.
And with some luck, lives to see another day
I think these breakdowns inspire so many people to practice martial arts.
The glee on Pak’s face everytime he threatens Logan…
Logan, RUN!
There is so much going on in this fight scene from bare fist fight to improvised weapons. The use of environment is also great here since they went to almost every obstacles/part of the warehouse. I hope you guys would do more of fight breakdowns for this movie since there are still more stuffs worth to cover. Id love to see The Operator vs Two Assassins fight scene in the upcoming breakdowns for the unusual weapon choice (The steel wire?) of one of the assassins and the bloody duel between the other ones
Hey Logan, just wanted to give you kudos for taking the falls. Even if you practice breakfalls a lot and have a relatively soft surface to land on, it still hurts. From my perspective, there's a lot of Jiu Jitsu techniques incorporated (other styles will see their own syllabus in here, as there's only so many ways to exploit human anatomy), and it's always impressive to see moves executed without constant cutting or forced perspectives to hide the fact that the actors can't do it for real. Joe and Iko have some serious talent.
At least someone appreciates me getting ragdolled lol. Thank you 💪
@@ScenicFights You pull off some great ukemis which I love to see since judo is criminally underrepresented in media.
Dear Lord! That kick hitting the steel beam made cry! 😭
Love this channel! I’m not a striker by any means, but my father was a Judo instructor for almost 40 years and I had a somewhat respectable D1 wrestling career. It’s fantastic to know there are more people out there with interests similar to mine! Keep making excellent content and we’ll keep watching.
Thanks for sharing your martial arts story! If you know any good judo fight scenes, let us know in the comments so we can take a look at them.
one of my favorite Iko fights, that shin hitting the steel beam always gets me
More Pak means more Judo moves I can try in my club, thanks for the awesome upload 💪
Thanks for the support as always Isaac! Let us know how those Judo throws go. Be safe :)
In this fight Joe is shown to be dominating through sheer strength and mass rather than skill. Iko's character is showing more technical skill but Joe's is just eating his blows and ragdolling Iko whenever he hits him. This fight was cool as hell to watch and it does a really good job of portraying how important size and build is in a fight.
I mean we brokedown like 12 or some judo techniques but ok
@@JudoChefPak I did get a laugh at him describing perfectly executed throws as nothing more than dumb brute force. People who don't understand grappling arts pretty much always think there's no technique involved which is astoundingly ignorant.
Iko is a movie martial artist while Taslim is the real martial artist
@@indiangum4691
Lol Iko's grandad is a Silat Grandmaster. He was taught in Silat since he was 10 years old, to inherit his granpa's school. Silat is more likely a complete martial art, it literaly means Martial Art. It has grapplings, striking, throwing, ground fighting, weapon fighting, etc. If anything, it was Joe who do tournament style martial arts, where there are rules. Iko was trained to self defense in the street, where there are no rules. This is his granpa teach him to survive.
@@phloriaernas2149 sounds like something an Indonesian would say lmao judo is a sports as well as a martial art and there's people like Rhonda Rousey who have taken it to mma and it's usefulness is proven. On the other hand your so called silat it doesn't matter how dangerously you explain it noone has really proven it. Maybe If one of your Indonesian fighters take it to mma and make it big then you can start talking and boasting about it
This fight scene is BRUTAL LMAOO, also awesome breakdown Logan and Pak! You guys are very entertaining hosts
i try...
Had a crappy weekend, this picked me right back up! Thanks you guys, amazing work as always!
Glad we can make it better for you! You got this 💪
It seems like joe starts off almost not taking the fight seriously. Like he genuinely needed cobwebs shaken out as he does nearly everything wrong until he finally starts doing things right. This fight largely hinges on his insane endurance lasting long enough for him to take his opponent seriously.
Both of them have superhuman amount of endurance lol.
Talking about Ito's (Joe's character) endurance...he's just finished the fight at the butcher, getting out of police captive, ass-whooping from The Operator, and warehouse fight; before fighting Arian (Iko's character). Damn he's been through hell, and this film's timeline should only be around a day; I suppose?
I’m so happy I get to see this. I wish some more stuff was elaborated on a bit more (like the kick deflection of Joe Taslim’s sharp piece of wood) but I’m extremely happy you finally covered the turtle stance throw. I also find it funny that this is the most I’ve seen scenic fights physically recoil, I also wanted to see how people would react to the pole kicking scene. Thanks for finally uploading this
This fight scene is brutal! Anyone would physically recoil at some of these moves. Anyways, Glad you liked it and it’s always nice to see you here in our breakdowns 💪
This fight was insane holy shit.
I kinda wish this one also included Chad because I think there was a bit of everything for everyone to analyze in this fight, judo throws, punches, joint locks, improvised weapons, I wouldn't even mind if the video got long because of it, like 25~30min. But it was a sick one nonetheless, great video as always fellas 👏
Yes! There is so much material to breakdown from this fight scene, but it would have been too much for us. However, we did do a short breakdown with Chad here in case you missed it: ua-cam.com/users/shortsncndwhg35yo?feature=share

Jesus Christ! When Iko kicked the metal beam I literally squirmed in pain.
Awesome episode nonetheless, Pak is a really great addition to your team so shoutout to him!
I thought you guys just love picking on Jo since I havent seen this show,, I didnt think there would be a weapons fight.
Speaking of the weapons fight, it was too scary and brutal for me. I would rather take the coffee or therapy option hahahah!
Don’t discount therapy fellas!

Just love the fact that on the set of mortal kombat the director kept having to tell Joe to slow down he was moving to fast for the cameras to keep up and the other actors to keep up with him
Horror level fight sequence. So good and such a great break down. This channel is awesome. Although watching it this time around The Shard appears to be a split of wood with a like 3” nail embedded and protruding, explaining both the lack of hand damage and the lack of fight ending damage.

@@ScenicFights YESSIR!!! 😤
To be fair, about Joe I did know he was a judo championship but what I didn’t know is that he knew other martial arts as well.
Another thing which is pretty funny, you guys mentioned about Joe choking Iko while on the ground is something it won’t happen but as for Joe and Iko in this case Joe is actually able to, due to height. Joe is 5,9 and Iko is 5,4 or 5,5 which Iko’s height is considered to be average in Indonesia. I just find that pretty funny, if you really want a good laugh in the first raid there’s a fight scene between Joe and Yayan which is really awesome but funny. A fun fact about Yayan he actually is a master in pencak silat and has his very own school in Indonesia. Iko’s martial art style is the same as Yayan silat
nope, yayan and iko have different styles. Yayan's style is called Pencak Silat Tenaga Dasar (PSTD/ previously known as Kateda) while Iko's is called Tiga Berantai.
@@fightyo5393 that’s interesting, thanks for the indie on the styles, didn’t know there were multiple of it
@@Chris09978 silat is like kung fu In that there so many forms and styles. A lot through lineages. It's a fascinating history

I once landed an Ipon Seoi Nagge in sparring (mma style), it was awesome. It was very light striking, a bit of a demo for someone new, but it landed without a set up from my partner nonetheless. I live this channel, it taught me a lot!
"This is what happens when men don't talk about their feelings" really got me hahah

boys? logan is like 100 years old
it's only unrealistic to you because you can't do it
Wow, i thought the raid has brutal fights. THIS is BRUTAL!
Gareth Evans had no intention to make the most brutal action film ever when he's doing The Raid. He just want to make something thats closer to be realistic or looks believable. On the other hand Timo Tjajanto (Who made this movie and Headshot) is an experienced Indonesian Horror filmaker and had some obsession with violence so yeah as you can see he took the violence to the next level with this one.
Fierce Cop (Lie Tan) is a film that has some great breakdown potential - a sledgehammer as a weapon where he uses different grips,a few knife techniques (including a great arm slash disarm to kill strike, just like you guys have shown off in the past!!!) and other close range stuff. Just a fun, no nonsense, well shot action fest.Highly reccomended!!!

Fantastic i cant believe those techniques are real, not merely some correography
Iko put in a ton of work with Joe to improve his striking in prep for the film, iirc he described Joe's striking technique as horrible then ended up being impressed by how quickly Joe picked things up and improved.
