About Nobody (2021) (Source Google):
Hutch Mansell fails to defend himself or his family when two thieves break into his suburban home one night. The aftermath of the incident soon strikes a match to his long-simmering rage. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must now save his wife and son from a dangerous adversary -- and ensure that he will never be underestimated again.
Nobody (2021) is based on an idea by Bob Odenkirk, who dealt with a home invasion himself by trapping the trespassers in the basement. He was frustrated with how the authorities dealt with the situation and had thought about how he would take the matter into his own hands if he "was a badass." (Source IMDB).
About the Character: (source Nobody Wikipedia):
Hutch "Nobody" Mansell was an "auditor" for federal government agencies who would hunt down and execute treasonous individuals, until an experience with one target inspired him to retire as a mundane family man. After a break-in to his house, which he refused to resist, indirectly leads to a vicious brawl on a bus, he is targeted by a Russian mobster, forcing him to re-awaken his “skills” and fight back.

Nobody (2021) was one our most requested action films and we absolutely loved it! We've been wanting to release the bus fight scene breakdown for a while now so we're happy it's finally live.
As always, make sure to share with your friends, get them to subscribe and let us know which fight scene you'd like to see us breakdown next!
I'd love to see you guys give your opinion on the awesome boxing in Arcane!
punisher season 2 episode 1. the bathroom fight, please
You actually did call it correctly! In the movie the guy that got hit with the pipe survived the fight do to the emergency tracheostomy but the skull fracture and brain damage left him in a permanent vegetative state. It was an important plot point because the asshole was a mob boss's brother.
You guys should react to Assassin's Creed 3 Combat Scenes since the Assassin's Creed 3 Combat System is so satisfying.
Please cover Korean movie "The Villainess" ..... opening knife scene.....it's totally on another level
In defense of the metal pipe strike, the types of pipes they use on buses to hold on to are typically very light, usually made out of sheet metal or aluminum. Notice how Hutch easily pulls it out with one hand. So striking someone in the head with one probably wouldn't generate enough force to break their skull. A concussion, sure, but not a broken skull. I think Hutch knew that, and that's why he followed up with a strike to the throat - first strike was just a set up to break down the guy's defenses before a more precise and deadly attack.
You can still crush someone's throat and kill someone from attacking the neck regardless of how hard you hit them. The guy wouldn't be able to talk afterwards that's for sure. The guy would probs bleed out before receiving help tbh as there's no pressure applied to the cut and everyone leaves him to die
Well, the guy that got hit with the pipe eventually died so...it's still pretty accurate.
That amd the guy did doe on the hospital so...
"He was alive when i left him". Or something like that in the movie
@@mecurseyoumimikyu4701 no, not regardless of how hard you hit them. It doesnt take a ton of force though. Second You wouldnt bleed out from a tracheotomy, assuming you meant the cut from the same guy. If you meant the other people stabbed a few times or the one who got his wrist slashed it still isnt guaranteed, remember vertical wrist cuts are way more dangerous.
@@mecurseyoumimikyu4701 That pipe "most likely" empty aluminum, it is less dangerous than wooden stick. Its physics, you dont get full damage as it simply bends and it is way weaker force than if it would be from solid one. Even police rubber "soft" stick would do more damage. (police have two types soft and hard)
One of the great things about this fight and the film as a whole, is how Odenkirk's Hutch has to "shake off the rust" during the action. This is a very relatable thing for fighters. Even if you're highly-trained, if you don't spar for a while, it takes a little while to get your rhythm back. I thoight that represented perfectly in this fight with the hits he takes, and then he seems to get smarter not only in what attacks he uses but also about his surroundings.
Excellent breakdown as always.
Very good point.
Been there a few times, and it sucks. You know what to do, but your body isn't in tune with the memory and doesn't move in time. Frustrating as hell.
@@iangrau-fay592 dude me too, be out of the gym for 6 months, gas in the first couple rounds, punches you used to slip catch you clean, I think defense suffers the most or maybe accuracy on your shots either way it really sucks
@@RealistMindset7 Definitely defense suffers. Another great MMA channel is Ramsey Dewey, he recently did a video about how most defense is done prior to an attack actually being thrown. Lack of practice leaves you looking for an attack to react against, and action usually beats reaction.
@@iangrau-fay592 This.
Relates more to fight IQ, experience and general wisdom.
One of the guys in that bus fight was the actual stuntman that choreographed the whole scene. An amazing detail by itself
Yes Daniel Bernhardt! Amazing stunt director. We talk about him in our Atomic Blonde fight scene breakdown: ua-cam.com/video/bs3W-42RLFo/v-deo.html
In terms of the last scene, that is actually a real medical technique. If someone can't breathe by themselves, you can cut diagonally into their windpipe and put a small tube to help them breathe. It's called a tracheostomy.
On the other hand, he also got a nightstick fracture and compressive skull fracture.
Tracheotomy, no s. Otomos is to cut. Osteo is bone.
They use to teach it as a first aid procedure in the eighties in New Zealand, I got taught it at school, "strangely" they stopped making it part of the curriculum.. but yeah honestly I can see why you don't want random people cutting someone's throat so they can stick a straw in when they are choking.
@@robmanueb. I was taught that as a cricotomy for someone who had a blocked trachea (probably because we punctured the cricoid cartilage) but outside of a surgical suite it's just ripe for infection (straw not needed usually) and in that case a tracheotomy would be performed instead.
@@andrewhegstrom2187 Just seems like a bit of a dangerous not to mention litigious procedure to "teach" non medical professionals. Over the years most of my first aid courses seem to shrink in actual content, I did one a couple of years ago as a school bus driver that was basically CPR and call an ambulance, carry some candy in case of diabetic attack. During the course management did point out that we were not allowed to touch the kids even for CPR with all the staff saying well fuck that, we do what we have to.
@@robmanueb.I'm a nurse and live in the US so I get some extra protections and even untrained rescuers often fall under a "good samaritan clause" (a little tube of cake frosting is also great for hypoglycemic episodes, just stick it along the gum line so if they fall unconscious the risk of aspiration is super low)
The choreography here is insane holy, it's like someone gave care and attention to all the hollywood flaws and fixed them, it just makes me smile so much.
You can tell the choreographers love action movies.
Nice Niko Pfp
@@safari8447 thanks :P
This was some of the same crew as the John Wick movies correct? Stuntmen turned directors have been killing it lately.
It's still overly done like everything stunt coordinators do. There has not yet been a movie that has what one would call a raw street fight.
You guys probably have your schedule filled already for now. But dune definitely has some interesting fight scenes to check out.
Im waiting for Dune the whole time!!

Who needs a weirding module?
Maybe compare the two dune movies? 1984 vs 2021
@@craigsmith4665 Of course not the roblox one
Let's take a moment to celebrate Bob Odenkirk selling that choreography to the tee.
Very good movie. Loved it.
Great breakdown once again guys, loved how much Logan liked this to his point at the end, the last guy with the straw, does indeed die later from brain damage as his mob boss brother informs Hutch when he’s surprised that the last time he saw him he was still breathing, so yeah even there the movie acknowledged that while he was able to breathe and survive the encounter in the long run, the damage was too much, arguably that is what kickstarts the whole movie’s plot.
I feel like you didn't watch the movie and just heard the plot. Because that's not how the dude died 😂
@@skankhunt-wy9wy watch exactly at 40:05 in the film and you'll see the doctor informs Yulian that the damage to Teddy's brain is too severe and afterwards his henchman who checks the x-ray papers confirms to him that he's "real fucked" and towards the end of the film when Hutch visits Yulian in the restaurant, Yulian informs him that Teddy did indeed die, which we can conclude was from the brain damage, just cause you're skipping through the movie to the action scenes and don't watch anything in between doesn't mean that I'm wrong to have known something your dog-ass didn't see.
“Your Honor, my client is simply built different”
This is the kind of fight scene I love. Rather than an elegant display of choreography, it's a total brawl. Guys fighting tooth and nail to stay alive. You feel those punches, it's so nasty, yet so satisfying.
It's a perfect fight scene that mix legit martial arts with entertainment.
Logan never thought of using a watch as a weapon before, now he knows. Imagine him in his class referencing this movie "so if you wrap your watch around your fist like so...".
lmao!
The first rule of fighting is; it's a pretty sure thing everybody is going to get hurt. This fight scene embraces that maxim. Hutch is not portrayed as some untouchable, invulnerable superhero. He's just a guy with mad skills who can hurt the other guys a whole lot more and a whole lot faster than they can hurt him.
It is cool to see that the protagonist used the tools he had available with pretty good efficiency and used good counter measures, like getting out of the wrist control en slashing the wrist. Only the punches were quite wide, but overall good scene. And who says that a watch isn't multifunctional 😆
I think the initial punches are for story telling. He hasn't fought anyone for years and is rusty but regains his skill during the fight.
@@Jacquobite that is true, I forgot
@@Jacquobite probably for cinematography purposes too, wider punches are easier to capture on camera and for viewers to see
@@MrBwort1 very true, I’m a film student and one of the tips for filming fight scenes is that wide punches are easier to be captured. That’s exactly why mma matches and boxing matches are filmed from afar and with the whole body in the frame
@@simonigorvasquez1495 generally visual media like animations tends to have a more exaggeration
like punching or kicking to pretty much give more power/ emphasis on the hit
also yeah easier to capture and convey the action.
I know others commenters have mentioned this, but I wanted to say one of the greatest things about this scene is the characterization and character development we see during it. At the start of the fight, Hutch is slow and takes a ton of hits because he's clearly rusty. The story tells us he's spent ages without fighting, and the action shows that's true. But as the fight progresses, we can see his skills and instincts come back to him.
But it's not just Hutch this happens for. From the moment we see the guy in the yellow shirt, we can a "feel" for the type of person he is. He's in over hid head, trying to fit into a world of tough guys he doesn't belong to. This is reinforced when we see him in the back, pulling a knife in the fight without having thrown a punch. Then later, he's the only one to go for a gun. Without needing a word of dialogue, we understand who this person is.
This is easily one of the best action scenes ever put to film. Not only is the action itself incredible, but the way it's used for story-telling is something we rarely see in movies. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. This scene proves that's true. In just a few minutes of awesome action, we get characterization/character development that'd take a dozen pages of dialogue in a script to convey. Ir's fantastic.
Just to add to this, after pulling out the knife. He sticks it into Hutch and has absolutely no follow up, the camera even pans up and you see this slightly lost look like "what now?" until he takes a solid hit to the face. I know it's just choreographed but that's the actor really selling the "inexperience" of being in a fight.
"Post Person" had me laughing out loud. Awesome video guys
Lol very PC way of saying "He dead!"
Logan has a way with words. He's a "post-mortem dude" lol.
OK Logan and Chad, once again another great fight scene breakdown. I also had wondered why Hutch was moving his watch. Great job pointing that out.
Now for a little bit of nitpicking so Nobody can possibly get an A+ for the scene. As a machinist I want to point out that what Hutch used at the end of the scene for the head and throat strike was tubing and not pipe. Tubing is used for structural use, such as the bus's hand holds. Pipe is a vessel which water, gas, ect flow through. Pipe has a thicker wall and is heavier. Tubing has thinner wall and is lighter. Hutch could swing it faster but it would have less impact than a piece of black pipe like the one represented in your critique. Not quite a whiffle bat but definitely not a baseball bat either.
A+ it is!
When Hutch is down on the seat after being beaten up, the way he just allows himself to sink into that bench feeling the pain. Guys, this is not just a well coregraphed fighting scene. This is incredibly well written.
When Hutch sees the guy with the gun and calmly goes for the pipe, it ain't because he thinks he has superpowers. He's just too tired to react. He looks at the weapon and says "alright, I'm prolly dead" and turns his back. Come on. This is just too good.
As much as I love fictional pointless violence, I gotta say, writing has it's share on this one.
Down here in Brazil we would say CARALHO MANO BOM DEMAIS.
Caralho mano bom demais
Suddenly caralho!
Honestly the thing that still sets this scene apart from the rest for me is the fact there's that lull in the middle of the fight where everyone has to sit down a moment to moan about how bad they hurt and how badly they're injured... That might be the first time I've seen a movie portray how people really act the second the adrenaline fades away and the pain starts to set in.
Also, they're look of fear and disbelief that Hutch comes back on the bus for more is just utterly fantastic.
I just love how he's not some untouchable superhero. He gets hurt, and he gets hurt bad. There are even points where even his godlike willpower can't stop him from needing a few seconds to recover. Even him falling to his knees doesn't really seem like he was just getting a new weapon; his legs genuinely gave way for a bit and he just so happens to be a master of improv.
Another thing I love about this movie is that, in the fight at the very end, you'll notice that the dude who got a knife lodged deep in his leg (bottom left at 5:09) doesn't fight Hutch at all. In fact, he just stays there even when Hutch wraps a seatbelt around him as he literally cannot go away.
They had taken into account that he was a post person... (SPOILERS) ... As in a later scene, they go "He has suffered severe brain damage and is unlikely to recover" supplemented by, "at least I left him breathing" So in my heart, it is an A+
Shhh! Don't tell Logan or he will hammer fist you lol.
No the villain straight up says he killed him, and he says last he saw him he was breathing. Its straight confirmed dude went full on post person
I really enjoyed the realistic approach about fighting multiple assailants. He gets banged up to which is exactly what would happen if you fight 5 on 1.
You showed me some details I'd missed for example using the watch as a weapon, and how deeply embedded the knife got in dude's thigh. My favorite thing about this scene is as much a badass as Hutch Mansell is, he's old and rusty. He had to get reacquainted with the skills and mindset that kept alive in life he walked away from.
Nice breakdown. When you mentioned using the watch as a blunt force weapon I instantly remembered an old James Bond novel I read where Bond's "gadget" was just a plain old Rolex Oyster, which Ian Fleming wrote was great as a knuckle duster in a pinch!
you should do a The equalizer fight scene breakdown! it has the dopest fight scenes, hand to hand combat and knife fighting, The main character uses the environment and a lot of improvised weapons in the scenes. Another amazing video btw!!!
I have many nitpicks with this movie tbh but the bus fight scene was undoubtedly one of its best highlights. I'm glad film these days are getting more authentic with hand to hand combat especially as shown in this scene. Great breakdown
As a past ICU Neuro trauma RN. You might be more surprised at the people and their messed up brains we save. A social worker that worked with our ICU patients was in medical school, when he and his father were I believe mugged. This man was hard core he survived his two gunshots to the head and became the best trauma patient advocate ever. He never let his disability stop him. His father unfortunately didn't make it. That straw would probably get the air in but that was some serious trauma and that swelling will spread. Even putting in a trach would me messy. That brain damage would need to be treated FAST and that's if he's lucky on the location and amount of swelling.
I loved this movie and like Raging Fire, which I also wanted to see, I finally pulled the trigger because you guys were breaking down the scenes.
Two things, 1. The guy who got hit with the pipe did die later on
And 2. The guy who got hammer fisted in the face with the watch was the fight coordinator. His name is Daniel Bernhardt and he's awesome. He's been in both The Matrix and John Wick films as well as others. The guy who got his arm broke is Alain Moussi. He's also a martial artist and stunt performer and I think some of his scenes from his 2 Kickboxer movies might be good to break down. Ironically both he and Daniel have lead Kickboxer movies with Alain's being reboots. Sorry about the long post but I really get into this sort of stuff
Thanks for this man really appreciate your comment

Any scene from Iko Uwais movie “Headshot”.
All of the fight scenes had so much weight and realism behind them. A SUPER underrated action movie.
I've seen this movie multiple times and I still get impressed every single time.
Seen people compare it to John Wick, but personally it feels more of a cross between Unforgiven and Home Alone. A retired badass gets sucked back in (kinda) against his wishes, but realizes he's gotten old so he has to be a bit more creative in how to deal with it, so to speak.
And *spoiler alert*
Seeing Christopher Lloyd with a shotgun is therapeutic lol.
Glad Logan seems to have throughly enjoyed this breakdown, can't wait to see what you guys come up next time oh and Happy New Year !!!!
I agree with your spoiler. It was so awesome to see that.
This was definitely more of a John Wick inspired movie but it worked perfectly with Bob's skill set and how everyone views him and his characters. Generally he is seen as a helpless nobody and this movie brilliantly plays on that perception of the characters he plays and transitions him so well into an action star.
John Wick had the dog dying, Nobody had the kitty cat bracelet being stolen
The bathroom fight scene in punisher ss2 is great fight against weapon too
"That person is a post person"
Pretty good summary of this entire fight, not gonna lie
You know it was very brutal when an knife expert says “oh jeez”
The watch trick Is an old ww2 cqc trick, I believe was stolen from street fighting at the time, grandfather taught It to me also taught me to keep a razor in the edge of my wallet. Those boys were different animals back then, the farther you go back the more brutal and basic fight become. Also "post person" excellent term, had me gigglin. I use future hospital residents myself.
It's nice to see you explain the most important thing in martial arts
Arts, everyone thinks there's a move or a combo or be stronger or faster, it's none of those the most important thing in a fight is this where are you standing, are you in the strike zone, do you have proper distance, this takes every gain speed or power had away, timing is everything. Your mind is a far better tool to destroy a man then your fist are.
The seatbelt wrapped around the palm reminds me of the bathroom fight in the Punisher season 2, where Frank Castle takes off his thick leather belt and wraps it around his forearm when he sees that his attackers have knives - improvised defense for when you're caught off guard.
I love this movie. I watched it twice. And I normally wait about a decade before I'll re-watch a movie

Great review. I have been a Surgical Technician for 48 years, and am a retired Army Combat Medic. A very long time ago, I learned a little escrima from some Airmen I knew, who were born and raised in the Philippines. They taught me to fear the knife. They had a great understanding of human anatomy.
The blow to the throat with the pipe, probably broke the hyoid bone. The hyoid, is located high in the neck, and is the ONLY bone in the human body NOT attached to another bone. Fracturing it, most certainly IS life threatening, and would require emergency Surgical intervention.
Thanks for a great video.

I came across your channel back in May of this year. I have pancreatic cancer, and had surgery for it in May, and finished my last round of chemotherapy just before Christmas. So I have seen quite a few of your breakdowns. You guys interact well with each other.
For me, I hold no ranking in any martial art. However, I understand weapons.
The idea of a fight with a trained individual, is scary, and probably won't last long.
I appreciated some realism in "nobody's " fighting scenes. I've worked in a Level 2 Trauma Center and have helped repair fractue-dislocated elbows, and knees. Hollywood usually shows someone wit such an injury getting up and continuing the fight, which isn't possible.
I apologize for being wordy.
God Blesx
I love this fight so much. Not only is it well choreographed, Odenkirk does a possibly even better job than Reeves of showing an everyman being a potentially dangerous fighter.
Hutch Mansell is no everyman.
one of the most brutal fight scenes since original old boy. very well done
I've watched the video 30 times and you guys pointed more things out to me I never realized because it goes by So Fast.. Thanx Guys.
Ice pick gripping is great in executing a cqc power move but deeply exposes your knuckles but with coupling the seat belt buckle makes it more efficient move so underhand moves with shorter blades definitely need complimentary gear in order not to get exploited by those who see its weakness
Using a watch as a blunt weapon has been described in books a few times, but this was the first time seeing on film.
Even if it is the new year, one thing didn’t change: more new awesome videos from Scenic Fights
Glad to see you here Isaac for 2022! We have some cool scenes coming soon so stay tune!
Great video as always. I think the only reason the guy at the end doesn't die is because I believe the pipe is made of aluminum and not steal so its not as heavy. This doesn't take away from the devastation that was done but it does kind of give him a chance to not be dead immediately.
I love how you two put a great comedy element into one of the most absolutely visceral fight scenes in movie history. Bravo! :)
I was waiting for you guys to cover this scene, is so good
Please do the movie Re:Born. Some absolutely insane karambit work, and the villain uses a pikal-style karambit, which I don't think I've ever seen in a movie before. It's completely out-to-lunch in terms of story and plot, but the action is incredible.

I haven’t seen this yet, but after your break down I’m definitely going to check it out. I’m really glad that fight scenes are becoming more accurate. I love karate kid and I’m a sucker for cobra Kai BUT those kids fighting sure seem to take an unrealistic amount of punishment. I don’t know too many fighters that can take several punches to the face plus an elbow and be completely fine with only mild bruising.
Bro you are in for a thrill. The film still has drama so isn't completely realistic but it is so good.
You have to watch Nobody! It's such a great action film.
Nobody was definitely a "highlight of the year" movie in my book. I never thought Bob Odenkirk would be a good choice for an action movie hero. But hot damn, he sold it. The dude took a page out of Keanu's playbook and took the role seriously, training for a couple of years before filming started. Turns out he's also a pretty decent shooter, as well.
@@ScenicFights I ended up buying it digitally so I could check it out. It WAS good and a lot more action and fights scenes then I thought. My favorite part was old “doc from back to the future” being a salty bad ass wasn’t expecting that !

But this, just like Punisher and John Wick, shows how violent fighting is, especially with weapons. It's not nice, it's no neat. It's brutal and leaves you scarred if you win and dead if you lose.

Really appreciate to hear from you in 2022 Der Hammer. It's a certainly a good start to the new year.
The fight scene in the bus is similar to the fight scene in the hall in the korean movie Old Boy; Perhaps my favorite movie! A fight in a contained space, lots of quick moves, up close and personal. Nobody mixes questions about the situation and the main character while adding the human struggle and conflict. Same but more so in Old Boy.
Loved the movie ,excellent breakdown of that epic bus scene 💪🏻💪🏻
Happy New Year to you two and everyone else on the crew! 🎉
Always loving the content. Looking forward to a whole new year of it from y'all!
Happy New Year! Let us know which fight scene you'd still like to see us breakdown in 2022!
You could use Nobody for a de-escalation class, to show how arguments could get settled without using force or violence.
Happy new year! Great video. Looking forward to more.
Happy New Year! Glad to have you here with us in 2022. Let us know which fight scene breakdown you're looking forward to next!
earlier in the 90s, we often had street fights. any object clenched in a fist increases the force of impact, even an ordinary plastic lighter. or for example, when you walk down the street and see a "problem" in front of you, you understand that you can't avoid a fight, you can use the effect of surprise - a trifle from your pocket to your left hand, keys or a lighter to your right. you throw a trifle in the face, and while the opponent is trying to protect his face, you hit him with the other hand. well, then improvisation. Greetings from Russia!!
I've been a fan of Bob's since Mr Show in the 90's. He is absolutely a brilliant comedic writer/performer.
Awesome breakdown, but I think the knife trap 2/3 of the way through wasn't done with the blade facing inwards. In other words, there was no cutting involved while trapping the guy on the left's arm. You can see it when Hutch proceeds to slice across at the guy on the right's face. If the blade was facing inwards that wouldn't have been a face slash as much as a face punch. Excellent breakdown as always.
Finally it's here! Thanks for this, guys!!
It is here AJ Carlos! Hope you enjoyed it and shared it. Are there any other fight scene you'd like to see us breakdown next?
@@ScenicFights ooohh definitely guys!! Hmmm I was thinking the Young Justice S4 fight wherein red arrow uses a pen, but it's too damn short tbh 😭

About that elbow crack part, you guys should definitely do a scene breakdown on Silk Spectre II & Nite Owl vs burglars in Watchmen (2009).
I would love to see you guys break down some of the fights in Brawl in Cell Block 99, it's a very underrated movie with really good fight choreography.
Great video. I missed a lot of stuff when I saw it in the theater.
I loves this movie, it was a nice surprise, didn't knew anything about it just clicked play and enjoyed every second of it.
Was wondering when you will be doing a break down of this scene, a goos start for the year.
And as always amazing content.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes it's an awesome fight scene. A lot of people were requesting this fight so we eventually had to do it. No better way to start 2022.
