  • Comparing a brand new 33yr old set of CRANE GOLD roller rockers to a set of brand new 2024 KMJ "Assault" rockers. Both 1.70 ratio for bigblock Chevy with 7/16 stud. I hate to say it, but the KMJ piece appears more durable just by looking at them. The KMJ rockers are a real good piece for the money. Rated at 650lbs spring pressure. Would probably take more in short burst.

      Pretty strange they were made in Florida USA, went to England and eventually came back to the US. They've been around.

    Pretty cool. I had those same rockers on my SBC back in the 80's.

      Yep, they been around a long time. Pretty good old rockers. First engine I ever built was a 68 400 Pontiac, used Crane gold rockers in it. That was over 40+yrs ago.

    Man as soon as you said he was from the UK and had the quickest street legal car in the world I knew exactly who you was talking about. It's a red 4 door Vauxhall called Red Victor. I read about it in the magazines and saw it on TV shows. Car does 0 to 60 MPH in under 1 second. Licensed, registered, inspected, and insured road car. Not bullshit "Street Legal" like here in the US but for real street legal.

      Yep, it was hard to do. But I'm fixin to build a nasty 427 and it needs some rockers. I know these are tough. Springs I'm using in the 427 will be around 750lbs open. 731/732 lift Lunati solid roller. 276/284@.050.

    I'd run the crane if I had the choice over kmj

      @thereluctantgearhead4544  5 місяців тому +1

      They definitely have the industry standard legacy. Crane was the safe choice. But these KMJs are surprisingly nice rockers. I've always liked the Crane Cams & components. Top shelf shit for sure.

    I'm still running after all the years of on street motor builds and on my dirt track motors . Same set,pretty tuff shit made back in the day.Shit he probably thought he was dealing with Sam Elliott, thought he got cussed out by Sam Elliott. You lucky old fucker.

      Actually they feel pretty simular on the weight. But I'm surprised how well the KMJ rockers are made. Probably the best deal going on budget rockers. They are real nice, especially for the money. I'd use them with up to 600lbs open pressure without worry. They claim higher tho.

    do you build motors on this cannel?

      Yep, I'm just working on about 20 at a time. I'm actually retired now, so I just do it for something to do. But I built engines for a living most of my adult life. I like to teach young bucks how we did things back in the day.

      I only build high-performance engines tho. Stock don't interest me unless it's NHRA Stock. Built a few Stock Eliminator engines over the years and a couple Superstock engines also. Also got into drag boats years ago and I ran a minirod pull tractor. Alot of oval track engines too. But I'm a drag racer at heart. I'm old now, so I've slowed down alot.

      One of these days I'll figure out how to edit this shit and do a complete build on here. But I take weeks & even months on some builds, so it would be a long video.

    I question the material quality of the new shit....a buddy of mine was working on a SBC Circle track motor and the blue rockers were the size of your Fuckin tennis shoes....no name shit....stick with NOS . Good old USA !

      A few companies made blue roller rockers. Back in the day they had blue wolverine rockers that were just Cranes anodized blue. Also Lunati made them in blue back in the 80s. Now we have Proform, PRW, Blue Max and probably others. Not all are created equal. I have some blue Lunati rockers from the 80s that are still in use in one of my engines. Probably been in at least 5 different engines and they are still good. The PRWs are suspect over 500lbs and the Proform are probably the same rocker. They work fine on hydraulic roller setups. I have Cranes, Comp golds, Scorpions, Lunati, Harland Sharpe and many others. I gotta say the KMJs are better than I expected.

      Trust me, I'm a old dude and I've always been all about buying American shit. Only recently I'm seeing that shit is changing and everything imported don't suck. Most Chinese shit does suck, but a few manufacturers have figured it out. Most of our manufacturing has been sent to China and Mexico already. We are running out of American shit to buy. Even alot of American companies we know and love are secretly having shit made out of the country and lying saying it's made in USA. Holley for example, buy a brand new Holley Strip Dominator and it was cast in China. Same with the new Weiand intakes. Thank the free trade act back in the mid 90s, that's when it all really started. Shits only getting worse. The masters of the universe want to bring America down. Seems to be working as planned.

    • @thereluctantgearhead4544
      @thereluctantgearhead4544  5 місяців тому +1

      Funny thing is back in the day we didn't even think about buy in America, because all of it was made in America, so it was a non issue. That buy American slogan for car parts came about in the mid 90s. All speed parts for American V8s were made here. That ship has sailed tho. Probably less than 10% of our shit is made in America now. Yeah.....
