Yep, me too. Damn good engines, I drove a 540+hp 66 L-79 327 back in high school, I swapped into a gutted 69 C-10 stepside. Truck was hard to beat on the street back then. Buddy's dad raced Pro Stock drag boats and had a dyno in his back yard, spent 2 full nights dialing in that old 327. Hell of an engine for a kid. I managed to survive tho. Truck had a manual T-400, 4500 stall and a 4-56 gear. Built a few more 327s over the years for drag racing. I like the old 283s & 302s also. Built a few of them too. Nothing sounds better than a SBC at 8000+rpm

Yeah man you put that motor in a Chevy luv or a vega and you will have your hands full trying to keep it straight, probably be easier to find S10 , I'm a Ford guy but have built a few chevies for friends. I hAve a 79 Pinto that I built a stroker 347 for and its definitely a man to handle, it will spin around with u in a heart beat. You have a big selection of engines to choose from . Looks like you need your own machine shop so your stuff doesn't get locked up in machine shop jail. That little 327 high revver would be a blast in front of a 4 speed. The extra RPM capability is like having extra gears. As usual cool build and so many others. Your machine shop guy has to love you, how many of his kids did you put through college?🤔😁😎👍

I worked in 2 machine shops for decades. Shit was all free for years. Miss them days. Machine work cost me alot of money these days. Seems like they take alot longer to get the work done these days too. Shops I worked in years ago would have people's parts ready in a week or less. I have a block in the shop now been there all fuckin year. Just getting bored, decked, and line honed. Don't think they've even started on it. Pisses me off. I also use another machine shop, but it's farther away and has about a 2 month turnover. People these days have a different work ethic than them old dudes did back in the day. Best machinist I know are all dead or 75-80yrs old now. These young bucks today ain't like their grandpa's were. Most people have gotten lazy as hell.

This 327 getting a massive stall in a T-400 or a 4spd, depends in which vehicle it ends up in. 5-13 gear be behind it. It should make power to 8500rpm no problem.

Sounds like you might be better off buying the machines and doing all your own machining than wait to pay big bucks to hurry up and wait? In the long run with all the machining you are going to need you'll probably save a ton of cash doing that work yourself, the machines will pay for themselves.
Another problem is there are way less machine shops around these days. Plus the ones that are around are a one or two man show. Not very many fully staffed machine shops left out there.🤷😎👍

@@itseithergonnaworkoritaint7852 Yep, shit has changed. Was just looking at photos of one of the shops I worked in back in the 90s, been shut down for 15-20yrs. Old building looking rough. Would like to buy it, but the neighborhood turned to shit. I'm sure most of the old equipment is still in there. Ole boy died years ago. Place was just boarded up. Has an old Stuska dyno in there. Probably where the powerband on the cam started. 327s definitely respond to big cams. Even the stock cams in a few of them was pretty rowdy. This cam I'm using in this one won't kick in till 5000+rpm, I'll shift it around 8500rpm. I have a 8in COAN converter that'll flash past 6000+RPM that I'll use behind this unit if I don't use a manual trans. 5-13 gear out back. I have a 86 G-body Bonneville that's gutted that this engine might go into, already has a 69 12-bolt with a 5-13 gear on a spool, 33 spline Dutchman axles in it. Car is set up with a T-400 now. But I have the shit I could convert it to a manual trans setup. The car is pretty well set up. Ran 6.60s in the 8th with a 357ci SBC, 6.30s with a basic 496 bigblock with a big cam in it. I've had it for decades. Ain't pretty, but it'll hook on ice, weighs 3050lbs with the SBC. Has 29.5x11.5x15 M/T slicks on it.

Best NA SBCs I've built were 406, 408, 414, 421s making 625-630hp. Built many 350s that made 550-600hp back when I built alot of circle track engines. I have a couple in that range tucked away now. I usually go with a bigblock if I'm trying to go much past 600hp or so NA. Had a 302 SBC that ran 6.20s in the 8th NA turning 9800rpm. I've built hundreds of SBCs for over 40yrs, did it for a living for decades, so it's hard to comment on all of them. Probably forgot over half of the builds. Currently have a twin turbo 355 disassembled, goal for it is 1000+hp at 15-20lbs. Built alot of boat engines back in the day too, once built a 8-71 blown 540ci bigblock that went into a fan boat to transport illegal materials thru swamps in the deep South. I just built the engine tho.... Did some rowdy jet boats too. They were all bigblocks.
