Funny how Baldur’s Gate launched without Denuvo and was a massive success. They sold over 10 million copies without needing to bloat their single-player game with DRM.
Funny also how BG has pure-paid exclusive items that nobody seems to mention, while DD has things obtainable in-game and people cry foul. Almost like you pick and choose which company to fellate arbitrarily. Pathetic.
Funny also how BG has pure-paid exclusive items that nobody seems to mention, while DD has things obtainable in-game and people cry foul. Almost like you pick and choose which company to support arbitrarily, because you're a pathetic liar.
The thing with Denuvo is that it’s been proven that it worsens overall performance by anywhere from 5-20%, them adding it to a game that already has performance issues is genuinely braindead, way to go Capcom, way to go.
Not only that if you look at most sold games globally on steam its still in the top 10 every week
i mean using Denuvo is one thing, but what Larian does is one another level. They didn't use any DRM ind any of their games. I could always play their games with my firends as long as one of us bought the game. We don't have a lot of budget in our firend group and this is just nice and fair.
According to ACG, the store was hidden in his review copy. If I were a content creator that got a copy early and did a review, I would be pretty mad that they put my integrity on the line with deception. I've seen a lot of people mad that reviewers never mentioned the microtransactions but it's my understanding that they had no idea and Capcom is definitely not going to stick their neck out to absorb any more blame.
And the mistrust between reviewers and game companies deepens. It's a shame
This is wrong, there have been screenshots showing that all the DLC was given to people with review copies.
@@purrodie point me to them.
@@Handlesaredumbm8 Exactly, why else make the comment.
It is as if Capcom knew this would happen so opted for hiding the store during reviewer period. Well they do have the foresight but apparently didn't do anything about it in the end, quite masochistic.

as a former bucaneer of the seven seas........I must agree
@@theroldan8675i used to sail with this guy. Can confirm
Don’t feel bad for pirating games or movies all the grunts got paid a salary already doesn’t matter how well the game sells the people who actually did the work won’t profit either way
It's not like they tell you if you pay you own the game outright, you are agreeing to pay for a license to play the game. Pirate of you want lol, but it is definitely still stealing.
The main issue I see is, sure, the things you can buy in shop for an advantage are minor, but this is how it starts. As soon as things like this become "acceptable" then the next wave of convenience dlcs come out, to attempt to become normalized, and so on and so on. It's a constant pushing of the envelope that we should expect from the industry. I remember hearing "what's the big deal? its just horse armor" when that first came out, and ultimately we now can see the effects of what that has had on the industry.
And then they add the cost to $80 to try to normalize paying even more at launch for the "standard", non disadvantaged version is what really gets me.
Adding to the fact that none of this information was even understood until right at launch when they threw up all the dlc at the last possible second and it's just disgusting nickle and diming that really makes me sick to see anyone defending it.
Exactly! 100% definitely what is going to happen!
And that is the entire point of gatekeeping your games! This is only the beginning.
Things ARE going to get worse if everybody just accepts it and shrugs it off as not being important because you "don't need to buy it, you can grind for it". People like that are the cause of this getting worse and worse.
What do people think is going to happen when they sell those microtransaction items and make tons of money off of stupid people? Are they going to reduce the microtransactions? Or are they going to greatly increase them. And even deliberately handicap players that won't purchase them.
Ignoring this problem is not going to make things better, or even have them stay the same as they are now! It will only make things (much) worse!
Capcom has never done that, and wouldn’t expect them to. These MTX are in line with all of their recent games.
But yah, it contributes negatively to the norms in the industry, and definitively is a bad thing in general.
Also, just terrible optics for Capcom.
Nice to see a balanced take on this. The levels of misinformation and dishonest (or grossly negligent) journalism around this was insane.
So basically what you are saying is that they have pissed everyone off for completely or almost no reason as there is be little to no gain from the DLCs because they are not worth buying. Fantastic! I hope this backfires so much that people responsible for this fiasco lose their job for their greediness.
The fact that they are there in the first place is a problem. It's already the most expensive game i've seen. $110 CAD after tax, what a joke.
@@OutCome5 thats not a good reason to be mad its not a competitive game so how is it a problem.dont pay the 99 cents lol
It becomes a problem when they balance the game around the desire for players to make these purchases.
@@kaizer-777thats effectively the whole issue
Though I do think that if dragon dogma 2 ran well and had a stronger story I think this issue wouldn’t have resulted in a review bombing

@@KingQuueefIf people in Helldivers can ree because someone else that they will never see might be using a weapon that they think is overpowered in their own game, DD2 players can get mad that they have pay for progress transactions. I personally don't care if someone spends $10 to start the game with a couple of pawns that can hard carry them like getting power leveled in an MMO but it absolutely effects the overall integrity of the game.
Not to mention that you have to wonder if the resources they sell had drop rates reduced just to entice a purchase. Like Ubisoft cutting the experience gain in Ass Creed games so they can sell a 50% exp booster.
Tip for the permanent jail key. That is a quest item you will lose if you finish the quest. Once you get it find the npc that makes duplicates and make a copy to keep forever. That's a thing you did with may items in original game as well.

Thank you for the balanced take on this. The amount of misinformation and dishonest / gross negligent journalism around this has been absolutely insane.
I think you undersell how microtransactions change the incentives for developers. First, if game developers are trying to sell you QoL upgrades, the game's QoL is artificially lower than it would otherwise be. Mtx isn't just players paying for convenience, it is developers making the game more inconvenient than necessary. Second, it's the only reason Denuvo has been added to a single player game. Third, it's the reason Capcom saves your character on their servers, because otherwise, we'd see mods or cheats introduced that would offer for free the QoL upgrades Capcom wants to sell. So the anti-cheat is really anti-mod.
This is accurate. They remove content and story to be able to milk you even more.
I thought he explained exactly what you just said 18:45-19:45
For the first part. The denuvo complaint though is interesting and makes sense
All the resident evil remakes and dmc5 and mortal combat all have super meaning less mxt idk why this game is such a surprise in that department but I am glad about the backlash this game is receiving it’s about time people spoke up on something that’s been happening for years it’s just a little weird that this is the point of contention for a game with many other more prevalent issues
Exactly there is no reason I will ever buy or support this game for all of these reasons. I have no problem with a live service game making money off of MTX to support ongoing development of the product. This is just a pure money grab and ruining the game to do it.
When DLSS does not save you, you know you messed up, Capcom.

I think the biggest issue for me is ONE save file that you can’t even delete. Is this 2001?
I'd say 2001 is a bit generous lol
yeah thats not an issue thats just unacceptable if they backtracked on that id consider buying it
considering it's a feature of the first game, and something that was mentioned repeatedly as being intentional in interviews and something you should watch out for, literally anyone complaining about it is just being an idiot.
I think he is really missing this point. The drama was not about mtx. it was mostly because of this. On PC this is possible but requires an unncessary workaround. The main reason why this torpedo was shot because in the past asian devs started to monetize NG+ also in the west and capcom sells mtx to change cosmetic of your character. I think these three issues came together and started this drama. Not only the mtx itself.
@@Choryrth It doesn’t matter if it’s intentional or if it was in a game that’s over a decade old. That still doesn’t make it right. You’re the idiot for defending such an outdated practice
I'm not okay with 70€ singleplayer games having MTXs, but for me the bigger offender is how poorly the game is optimized on PC.
If smaller AA-studios can release their games without any performance issues and with fraction of production value, then there's no excuse why these big AAA companies couldn't do it as well. There's just no excuse for that anymore, now that these smaller indie studios have shown that games can be optimized at launch.

Imagine having a game that could stand among giants such as Elden ring and baldur's gate. Then on launch day throw it all out because they want 2 dollars more from a player.
Bland world, janky gameplay, boring story... no way it compares to those games.
Seriously. This game could’ve attracted a good amount of players. The greed is unreal. You could’ve just made money by making a good game that everyone plays
This game was made for the fans of the first game (except for the microtransactions even tho you can ignore it ) and even this guy has said that the game is not for everyone, and thats ok? Not every game should be for everyone. Elden ring difficulty is not for everyone? The gameplay of BG3 is not for everyone as well, theres people who like to have more control and more action than the turn base in BG3 and thats ok!. You are one of the rare lucky ones.
The MAIN ISSUE here is that the game no longer allows you to start from scratch with a New Game once you already have a save. The first game had it just fine. Imagine, the NEW GAME option disappears from the main menu once you've played the game at least ONCE. And don't tell me you can delete your save manually. That's stupid af. And going by their public statement equivalent of "We'll think about adding New Game on the main menu." you should know by now that they intended for the results. What next? A game that you have to buy again after finishing it once? Oh, wait. There's already a thread about somebody who bought the game now being unable to install and play their copy because they installed the game one too many times and DRM decided it's time for them to buy the game again a.k.a. pay for a renewed DRM licensing.
I believe it’s even worse than that, it’s not they installed it multiple times.
It’s they changed the proton compatibility which for Linux devices allows them to use Microsoft Windows software on the fly.
So because they tried to figure out which proton layer would give the best optimised experience for DD2 on the steam deck it locked them out the game.
Denuvo seems to think each instance of a different compatibility layer (proton) was a separate instance of the game being run on a different system (hardware).
So even though you already bought a single player game and use it on the exact same hardware and system you can be locked out of the game you bought.
If buying isn’t owning, it’s not piracy, capcom don’t own it either.
Easy solution, buy the new game DLC that will inevitably release. Because here at Capcom, the customer is always our b¡+€h
l never tried the harpy lure, but one of my companions mentioned "there is an item over there, if we had a harpy lure we could reach it", so somehow you can use them to cover distances to reach items or whatever
The first game was fun I had to do a quest on ng+ to buy ferrystones for 10k rather than the extremely limited 20k that they sold for elsewhere but after many playthroughs they released the premium version of the game and it had an infinite ferrystone. I foresee it happening again, after players have the time to explore the world there will at least be a DLC for unlimited fast travel.
I'm gonna wait for the "dark arisin" version of the game.
one save per character is fine, no multiple characters and no new game option is asinine. Combined with poor performance and microtransactions, this is *not* sitting at the cool kid's table with Larian and FromSoft

Very informative video but frankly, knowing if a cash-shop item is easily obtainable in game is not what matters. Even if these objects are common in game, it's another step forward towards QoL and convenience features obtainable for a dollar in order for the player who had a very long day to skip some grind. What will be their next step ?
To me this game feels like a modern remake of DD1, more like an expansion rather than new standalone sequence to the original - an expensive one for what it delivers apparently...
I agree with the remake feel from what I’ve seen
It feels slower and a bit heavier which isn’t inherently bad but it leaves me in a position of “why wouldn’t I just play the original at triple the frames per second”
It's basically just a remake tbh
exactly. this game feels like a mod modded by modders. Even skyrim feels better. Im still in shock. the audacity to sell this game for more than 30€ still disgust me. And im not talking about the horrible performance and thousand crashes. every few minutes my game crashes. But even if the performance would be perfect, this game still feels bad.
I don't really agree. It's way more. A lot of QoL and change. I was expecting to see the exact same map, and it's not. Physics is WAY WAY better and impressive too. Yes a lot of things are the same, of course, we want Dragon's Dogma sequel, it need to have the good things from the 1. Combat system, pawn system and so on.

The only justification they could come up with that barely holds for the micro transactions is the pawn servers - but the fact that the release was riddled with bugs and poor PC optimization just nulifies that - for a 70-90$ game... thats just pitiful

The bigger problem is unable to restart halfway in game on Steam for now, they should had that at launch. (Someone will find out the cat is cuter and want to become one after starting)
It sure is better without the microtransaction, but same could be argue that people should able to pay more to make their game easier.

I mean you say that but DD1 had the same cash shop 14 years ago. So is it really getting "worse" or are you all just having a fit because you cheaped out on your CPUs?
It seems to me like developers and the people in charge of making the game were told, put microtransaction or else, and they put in the most redundant items possible to have them stop nagging. So long as getting anything boughtable relatively easily in game there is no problem in my opinion.
OR (and just putting this out there) they wanted to be true to the original and that included a cash shop with micro transactions like they did with the console releases of Dragons Dogma and the Dark Arisen DLC

I have blown through a lot of kits as I was experimenting with some mechanics and not clearing out enemies at all. Even the elite kits you start to find later will just disappear from your inventory once they break. Also worth noting the explorer's camping kit is for sale at certain shops. To be fair I did expect this game to run better considering the RE Engine has been incredibly performant in every RE game thus far. I've been very impressed with how well they ran considering how good these games looked. Like I was getting 40-80% more frames than I would expect for games of this fidelity.
This is not the case with Dragon's Dogma 2. Now, I understand that this is the first open world RPG in the RE Engine (to my knowledge) but still... And considering I get very little difference in FPS with raytracing on/off is a testament to the poor optimization of this game (though I think being locked 30fps on next gen consoles is enough to tell).
The save game issue is just bizarre. I understand they have some kind of philosophy but it really does just come across as a way to force people to use microtransactions/buy the premium edition. It would be kind of like if State of Decay kept their weird "one-save, no savescum, permadeath" system but also sold survivor packs and character revives as microtransactions. At that point you'd have to question if the "no savescumming" and "permadeath" system was really about the philosophy of a brutal post apocalyptic zombie survival game, or just an excuse to milk players for real money.
It's not an issue of ray tracing or not, the game is mostly CPU bound on PC due to the large number of NPCs with complex behaviors. Crashes are of course unacceptable, though I suppose I'm lucky that I haven't had any in 4 hours yet (though I did have several in the character creator, ironically.) But since the big performance issue on PC is demanding NPCs, I doubt it will get much better.
I agree about the one save thing, it's just odd and a poor design choice.
The game is CPU intensive because of the pawns(random) running around the whole map + NPCS + Enemies. They need to rework that somehow.
As far as makeing a new character goes they did put out a notice on steam the says "We are looking at adding a feature to the Steam version of the game that will allow players that are already playing to restart the game. We will announce more details as soon as we can."

Just FYI, the exploration tent you get from the pre-order bonus / dlc shop can also be found in-game. I spotted it yesterday from a merchant in the nameless village. So it's not much of a convenience item buy unless you consider maybe the first few hours of the game that it takes to access the thing enough of a burden to label this item a convenience. Additionally, the harpy lure's major function I'm pretty sure is a means of traversal. You can grab onto them to fly short distances, maybe to some out of reach chest somewhere. But there are skills you can use to do this as well so it's ultimately an option, not a necessity.
Capcom's dlc shop feels like it was put in to satisfy some suit in corporate, since none of it makes much sense at all.

the classic: create a problem, and sell the solution
I mean in this instance i dont think that particular adage is true, cause the 1st game had all the same stipulations minus the Microtransactions to solve them. It was just a design decision for better or for worse.
At this point these companies have to be doing this on purpose. It’s like they’d rather have people discuss their games in a negative manner than to have the game spoken highly of.
that saying doesn't work here, because there isn't a problem to begin with.
instead they are just selling the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

14 hours in... I will let you know when I get a problem. Great game.
So far the worst of it for me is keyboard binding of which they simply do not have good solutions for. Only about half the keys of a full sized keyboards can be used and you can't use alt+ for example. Once i got into the game this seemed a bit less of an issue, however will absolutely be an issue for many especially potentially somewhat handicapped players. For a AAA $70 game this should have not been an issue on release. Hope that gets on the short list. That and obviously starting the game over with another character.
There is also some issue imo with people framing performance simply by frame rate and resolution. Some of the best looking games have blur effects either in animations or resolution and textures. You see that with Ghost of Tsushima and some of the Zelda games, one of which had a monet painting type effect on the draw distance resolution. And blurring animations is a classic tactic used by animators to create a sense of fluidity and actual movement. You see this in comic books as well.
I’ve seen other games on the other hand which are supposed to run uncapped and they have over 60 FPS but my 3500$ gaming PC sounds like it’s revving up the whole time while I’m playing the game.
To me Japanese games have a history of having a low frame rate but they run very well. Like Dark Souls 3 for example had a low frame rate but it didn’t look bad and it performed very well with very few crashes if ever a crash at all on PlayStation 4 or 5.
Meanwhile games that are not made for PC take a long time to make more native. And also meanwhile I have bought games like Lords of the Fallen which updated themselves into being unable to run on my one year old 3500$ gaming PC because the game updated with some driver or some new aspect or feature of another video card company in mind.
That game in particular went from running well to being practically unplayable for me On a NVidia graphics card. Other friends had the same problem.
A game developer has to favor their native hardware -
This is a PlayStation game and similar to dark souls 3 and Elden Ring it will run better on PlayStation. And you can’t determine that reality simply by measuring the frame rate.
I think reducing the performance of a game down to the frame rate ignores a whole host of other factors that game developers must deal with when developing a game for wide audiences.
I have a PC and consoles and I tend to stick with whatever system the game was made for.
And that saves me a lot of headache.
There’s whole video series on this topic on UA-cam about playing games on their native systems versus like PC when it is not what the game was made for. The classic examples are street fighter where using a PC was essentially like cheating because players were able to have input and reaction advantages that the developers certainly specifically didn’t intend for and then games like Elden Ring where the game suffered from a year of issues on PC and which played differently on PC versus the intended PlayStation experience…
Making a good game that runs well is a very difficult task for a group of humans to complete. And making that game run well on systems it was not really planned for in regard to the code or the OS on which it was built is also a monumental task. That’s why it will take over a year for Ghost of Tsushima to come to PC. And instead of being mindful of that PC gamers complain and reduce all games down to the ability to mod/cheat, or to have high frame rates or resolutions etc.
I have a friend who’s never played dark souls games without cheating because he plays on PC only. …. To me that’s annoying.
The fast travel and the save file issue are the major problems for me.
I get your point but the first game is like this. Can't complain about how the game is.
No fast travel is part of the gameplay

just because another game is more terrible doesnt mean this game isnt...other worse micros dont make others ok
@@jeremysumpter8939 of course not. But why pick this game to freak out about it when there are worse offenders? It's disingenuous bandwagoning rather than a real call for change.
The reason the harpy signal exists is because there are many chests in the game you cant get to unless you have relevent teamwork moves on your pawns or the harpy signal to grab onto them and fly to the chest. The pendent you get is just a gift that gives ALOT of relationship with whoever it doesn't unlock anything special its just a gift to give anyone. The reason this is "kinda scummy" is because gifts can only be given once a day any more then that doesn't give additional relationship.
