Yeah it blows my mind how little most "gamers" understand the pressures of game development. We do not live in a perfect world where great artists are just given endless resources (time/money) to realize their vision. We live in a world where games (like feature films) are extremely expensive, and, like feature films, you get business school graduates with their fingers in the pie. "Get out of the kitchen!" cries the pure artist, who longs to be unemployed. 😂 Frankly I’m happy to mod out the stupid choices foisted upon devs by higher-ups. In fact, there’s something enjoyable about it.
Thank you for doing your best. I know some people have this ‘lazy devs’ narrative. Which is insane if you’ve ever worked in a corporate creative industry. (I’m an audio person) Anyway, allow me to say it out loud: thanks for fighting the good fight and doing your best. ✌️
Great video, man! I really appreciate. I'm finishing my seventh play through and I'm way overdue on modding DD2. I've seen some of the mods that add an iteration of what NG+ could be. I think that's ONE of the major things missing right now in the vanilla version.
I recently got a new pc with a RTX 4080 super, was wondering if I could enjoy this game more than I did on PS5, with your video I think I got my answer, so thanks man.
Why did you not show us how to properly install REFramework. Im having issues trying to install it, one time it made my game crash everytime I try to launch it. I had to reinstall to remove any other mod-like files and had all my progress reset because of it

Well, if you use Fluffy Mod Manager to download it, it should just install correctly. Otherwise, you can go to github and get the latest version and manually install it. Try that... turn it off in Fluffy Mod Manager then go here: github.com/praydog/REFramework/releases/tag/v1.5.4 Download DD2.zip and just unzip that into your game directory, NOT the mod directory. I had teleportation and it worked great. There was an update, I downloaded and installed it but it is no longer on my modmanager mod list. Anyone have this issue?
did you go into the download section and click to download it? After that, you may need to click "refresh mods." If that doesn't work, it's easy to install manually. Just download the file called DD2.zip here and drop the contents directly into your game folder (not the MODS folder). github.com/praydog/REFramework/releases/tag/v1.5.4
This is a great video and very helpful, but I want to push back on your feeling that the world was "designed to make you angry enough to buy the stupid fast travel tokens". You literally cannot buy fast travel tokens (Ferrystones) with real money, but there is an optional one-time purchase for an extra Portcrystal. Fast travel in the game requires two things: A consumable Ferrystone, and a Portcrystal to teleport to. There are two permanent Portcrystals in the game located at important locations, and you can acquire up to 6 portable Portcrystals in your first playthrough of the game which can be placed anywhere in the world to create fast travel points anywhere in the world. You can also get an additional Portcrystal in each NG+ cycle through a certain side quest, and a maximum of 10 portable Portcrystals can be placed in the world (for a total of 12 fast travel points). Now, having even one extra Portcrystal, especially in the early game when there are so few accessible to the player, is pretty significant and I would agree that its inclusion as a purchasable DLC should not exist, but to say that the travel system was designed to annoy the player to make them want to buy DLC is just not true. If anything, the inverse is true. The travel system in the game is limited by design because traversing the world and exploring the map is where the game shines brightest. Traveling long distances is meant to feel like a journey. Getting lost in the dark with a dwindling health bar and no campsite in sight is its own adventure. But as you become stronger and you explore more and find shortcuts through the landscape your journeys become quicker and safer. Increasing your carrying capacity by finding Golden Trove Beetles means you can spend more time outside of towns without having to empty your packs. Traveling the same road full of goblins is a different experience at level 1 and at level 40. The road and the goblins aren't there to annoy you, they are there to show you how much you have grown. And eventually you find your first Portcrystal and you can place it anywhere in the world, and you reach as the Arisen is no longer limited to where your feet can carry you but now spans the continent, but limited still by your collection of precious Ferrystones. Each new Portcrystal you acquire presents you with a choice about which location in the world is important to you. You have to travel by foot to place the Portcrystal and you have to pick it back up and travel by foot to a new location if you want to place it somewhere else so even with the power of teleportation you can never eliminate the need to journey on foot, because the journey is the point. It's just not true and not fair to say that it's designed to annoy you when every part of the game is about that journey and the adventures that we have while traveling those roads. And not everybody is into that, and that's fine! Modding is amazing and everybody should play in whatever way is the most fun for them as long as it doesn't affect anybody else's enjoyment of a game!
Well, I do not like fast travel, here's an old video we made on the old channel: ua-cam.com/video/LLRMtBCbAgA/v-deo.html However, DD2 is not very open. It's a series of winding, linear paths... and I LOVE exploring, but I get sick of covering the same areas 20 times... In games like Skyrim, Morrowind, etc. you can go anywhere... But the paths in DD2 are so restrictive that it becomes tedious. So, I have been using teleport since about level 35 (I'm level 39), and it's much better. I still spend most of my time roaming around... but still. I've tried to climb the mountains and such, but there are invisible walls. So, yeah.
@@easymode Theres invisible walls in certain areas, edge of map, but not everywhere. I sort of almost broke my game and climbed past some geo in the sphinx second area.. then I was stuck on a cliff edge, I hadnt touched any portcrystals or placed any, so my ferrystones were useless lol, I tried climbing back up toward the sphinx area, but no luck, kept sliding, a lot, and the other way was a 90 degree straight down at least 200 feet, ....everytime I died I would reload back up there, and I had not slept at an inn for days. So I grabbed my pawn near the edge by running and jumping and used them as a pillow for soft landing lmao... it was not intentionally designed this way, but damn it was so hilarious and rewarding to get out of that situation. And yes, going back and forth through areas you already had explored which were fully of creatures, sure even if they weren't Id just use the ox cart, and if we get stopped its random enemies, quick to kill off, if the cart gets destroyed no biggy, most of the time its about 30/40 second run to the destination anyway.. but yes, the corridor aspect is the reasoning, there are shortcuts, but thankfully at some stage there are areas in the game you dont need to return to. I do really love this game, a lot, it just feels like a good time, everytime I start it up, I cant wait to head off, even though Its to a similar area, or if I have to go to battal, I just make a long ass journey... euro truck simulator style. One thing that would remove a lot of the tedium and as a reward essentially, or a unlock of advancement would discovering the warp anywhere ferrystone, but sure higher ups at crapc.. I mean capcom.
