  • Kyle has had an insane week! Within a period of 7 days he was able to drive the Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance, Mercedes EQS 450+/580 4MATIC, and the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo. In this video Kyle takes you on a bit of a "mind dump" while driving his Tesla Model 3 to share his thoughts on the cars mentioned, where they all shine and which will be best for you based on your preferences. We are looking forward to spending more time with these cars and running them through our usual tests, and that will come very soon!

    German TV already did a range test with the EQS 450+ from Munic to Berlin. They reached 396 miles (638 km) with 30 miles (49 km) left in the HV battery. Speed on Autobahn between 75 to 87 MPH with an average above 64 MPH because of traffic.
    Btw, great comparison in this video. Thank you and best greetings from Germany.

      Plaid would win hands down because of the V3 supercharging network.
      Once the Lucid gets over 65mph it’s efficiency curve will drop off and it’s bigger battery won’t help and will be more a harm.

    Great video!
    Lucid air: Long distance ultra luxury cruiser, best range. Best blend and most balanced between ultra luxury and sporty.
    > I'd buy Lucid Air if Money wasn't an object.
    S Plaid: straight line beast, best acceleration and best charging network, safest purchase in terms of trade in value as of now.
    > I'd buy Model S Plaid if I was into drag racing.
    EQS: best driver, most comfortable ride, best infotainment, and most quiet.
    > I'd buy EQS if I was just into Mercedes with a short commute
    Taycan: the pure sports car and best charging curve (before lucid comes out)

    Hey Kyle, I like videos where you drive around and share your thoughts. Yeah, it’s a little rambling at times but you actually talk pretty fast and you don’t dwell, and it’s enjoyable to hear your thought process. Always very informed analyses.
    Regarding highway road noise, that’s a tough one. Sometimes the charts say one thing but the feel is just not quite there. I think it’s a combination of vibrations and sound frequency. Vibrations affect the way we hear sound, and obviously two sounds can have the same amplitude (volume) but the higher frequency noise will sound like garbage while the deeper, lower frequency sounds are less obtrusive.

      The Lucid has been out to customers for almost two weeks and there are NO customer-generated videos out there on UA-cam. None. @@dzerres The people who own a Tesla and make videos probably also chase views on UA-cam, vs the type of person who would buy a $170k car might not do so. And as of now, there is a 3-month review from a customer who bought it as his daily, and he’s been pretty honest about stuff. Is it still rough for a luxury car? Absolutely. But most of that is software and is constantly being updated. The actual build is awesome, and he’s enjoyed it.

It felt like a supercar, for cheap. Plus it's amazing looks, I especially love the rear! I ordered the Lucid Air because of its amazing efficiency, better than Tesla's and I went into the showroom myself to feel how the built quality was. Amazing. I was simply not satisfied with Tesla's built quality for how much I paid for it, so the Plaid was out of the question. The EQS, EQE don't get me wrong, they do look amazing...but it's not my style. More choices becoming available in the EV market is extremely positive and very good sign of the expansion of the EV market. The real question here is not which one is the best EV but rather which EV resonates most with you and suits your personal preferences and needs and fits your budget. The EV market is clearly exploding and following the exponential S curve adoption that we see of all disruptive technologies which will result in the inevitable and incontrovertible demise of ICE vehicles and relegate them to the dust bin of history.

A longer drive is futile, because the average speed really doesn't change after 600mi / 1000 km. Tried that too, drove for 24 hours with my M3P and in the end, avg speed was exactly the same it was after 1000 km.

Of course if the charging curve is good you can charge deep into the pack and perhaps save one charging session (and the associated time lost due to going off highway) but the difference is minor.

      Sadly he doesn't seem to watch Bjørn's 1000km otherwise he would not claim fat E-Tron is good on long trips (1 hour slower than M3). While Porsche and E-Tron-GT have been impressive, Tesla Model 3 LR even beats the combustion car if you include human brake times. So new Model S might be even better. Lucid will take some time to get to europe...

    Minor thought on styling between EQS and Lucid. As a European the Lucid looks very American with a huge and fat boot (back), it is just what I see as a styling and very typical on American cars. Ford tried this styling when they bought one of their large sedans to Europe and it killed this product. So the Lucid looks like an American car that Euopeans tend not to like, while the EQS is European styling, with some fast-back styling and I can understand why you don't like it.

    • @sc705
      @sc705 2 роки тому +9

      I'm neither a fan of the EQS nor Lucid styling (esp their rears). Both of their rears are bloated and soft. I think much of it has to do with aerodynamics. EQS looks less luxurious and cheaper than the price suggests. If I had to choose a winner between both on exterior aesthetics alone, I'd say Lucid has the styling that will age better. EQS will be known as Mercedes' first EV effort (even though its a great car)

    I used the online configurator to spec out aTaycan 4 Cross Turismo and 4S model, and with the options I thought were important, I got prices of $107,470 and $123,290 respectively. If you go crazy with the options list, you can bring the price up substantially. For me, self-control is the key when shopping the options list! You also get 3 years of free 30 minute DC charging sessions at EA with the Taycan.

    You'll have to redo the comparison when Plaid has the track update and sound canceling. Otherwise can't judge Plaid in these comparisons. Great reviews as always. Nice to see competition in the space. I probably lean toward to Plaid for performance once all updates are finished and the EQ for comfortable cruising. The EQ is a bit of an eyesore for me so opens up opportunity for Lucid Air. I also like the driver assist side on Tesla. I wonder what they used at Nurburgring. Look forward to Cadillac and Lincoln joining the space and Korean, Japanese, Chinese makes.

    The majority of car buying consumers are not "ready for an adventure" when it comes to charging an electric vehicle regardless of the charging speed of this vehicle or that vehicle. IMO the strength of Tesla is their charging network. Pull in to the space, put the charger in, wait for your desired charge, take charger out. Leave. Works like that 99.5% of the time. No worrying about taking out a card, billing, reliability, etc, etc. That's a huge selling point for those shopping for an EV.
    If they open the charging network to other EV's that's great but I'm not interested in taking chances with other charging options or using a third party app to locate this charger, that charger, better route planner, etc. I'm willing to bet most other car buying consumers are not either. People want a no brainer driving experience.

    The Mercedes configurator has summer tires by default on the EQS450. You can have all seasons but you’ll sacrifice range. How does this compare to the other brands?

    • @aritakalo8011
      @aritakalo8011 2 роки тому +1

      Everyone would most likely lose range on winter, all weather or all season tires. Nothing to do with the car, cold weather and snow tires just have worse rolling resistance and energy efficiency due to the way those tires have more cuts and thread blocks to provide more grip in snow and ice.
      It is one thing often not talked or reported about. The rolling resistance and energy efficiency of the tires has large effect on EV range. So it does matter what tires come as stock, then again... one can change out the tires. So if the stock tires are bad one can improve range by switching them out to more efficient ones.
      which is why pretty much all tire makers have started making EV specific more efficient tires. The loss of energy has always been there, but well with fuel cars it didn't matter so much given all the other vast in efficiencies.

    I understand this issue has very little to do with the driving experience comparisons that Kyle has so ably described in this video, but I am wondering when we will have some additional information and specifications on the V2G (vehicle to grid) bilateral charging capability of the Lucid Air vehicles. Will the capabilities be close to what Ford has stated will be the V2G specifications of the F-150 Lightning? To my mind, this capability may be the deciding factor as to which vehicle (between the Plaid, Taycan, Mercedes, and Lucid) would be the best (and, perhaps, most practical) vehicle to own.
