If the Model S was a precise, well handling car, then maybe a couple inch difference would matter, but it's not, so it doesn't. Seating position is a wannabe meme outside of actual racing anyway. I'm not saying some seating positions aren't better than others. I'm saying the people who worry about it in regards to commercial cars on public roads, are trying to be something they aren't. It simply makes very little difference when your carving up the canyon in your weekend car. I've owned many different cars and they've all had slightly different seating positions. I could nitpick and complain if that's who I was, but I adapted and painted the ideal line in whatever I was driving instead.

The leather seats on my 2002 Lincoln (20 years old) are just fine. I think that if you use full-grain (not just the outer half of the skin) it's plenty durable. At Lucid's price point I would hope they do that.

As of now, no other car manufacturer can touch Teslas software and UI. Tesla’s the only auto manufacturer that I actually enjoy the software. Competition is good for Tesla. This will hopefully push them to make their vehicles better and eventually add things, such as massaging seats (which I would love). Much like Apple and how their user experience is clean and consistent, that’s what Tesla is. No other automaker can compare at this time. And for this reason I would only chose a Tesla. Be interesting how my opinions on this will either continue to hold or even change 5-10 years down the road.

I don't like center big screens. I think Teslas look like offices inside and one reason is because of that center flat screen. When I'm at work for 7-9 hour all I do is interact with a screen and go through menus. I don't need that experience in my car. I'd rather have dedicated, simple controls, spaced out for the function of the car. All this talk about UIs in cars doesn't thrill me because a good user experience is one you don't think about. I think car manufacturers should get back to making car dashboards and consoles. It's not even about age more than function. Cars and GUI computers have different functions. The GUI computer is made to look at when you use it. The car is made to look at the road and drive it, not interact with its screens which is a distraction.

TBH most of the comparison is about space, and that doesn't change much throughout the Lucid or Model S range. I would say the largest Impact would be glass roof lacking in the cheapest Lucid and additional foot space in the lower range models. The lucid Air has quite a wide price range 88k to 250k and the Model S 105K to 160k.
Also I would suggest the Air Touring with the glass roof is a more direct comparison with the Model S long range that is about a 10k premium not 45K. This assumes you can get them both delivered in a reasonable time frame.

I prefer a trunk. After riding in many SUVs and hatchback type of vehicles, trunks are quieter inside and the cars feel more luxurious as hatchbacks will make noise even in the most expensive vehicles. Framed doors are better too for noise isolation as well as a more solid thunk when closed. I'll forego the practicality of the hatch. I don't like black interiors and I don't necessarily like white ones either. I like gray or pale blue, dark brown with tan accents or soft colors. I don't see a lot of contrast in the Lucid. I do like the Lucid's use of curved glass and not putting everything in a center screen (no matter how good it is, a screen is not the purpose of driving and drivers should interact with the road, not a screen). The S looks modern and dated at the same time. It's a newly designed interior in an older frame. The Lucid is a newer design, that's obvious, and is fairly conservative. Neither of these are my cars but I'd settle on the Lucid I guess. The S drives pretty well (ride way better than the 3, for instance, and quieter) and I for one think the performance is overkill. But you don't have to use it all. The interior quality on this particular car is problematic and the hit or miss aspect of Tesla quality is something that needs improvement. Maybe spend more time making the car rather than cost cutting and trying to make cars so quickly. And, I for one, don't like that Tesla only comes in a black or white (or both) interior. No warmth. Boring and obvious cost cutting. And in an over 100K car.

@@PraxicThorn Thanks, I stand corrected about the Model S's color choices. Cream does warm the car up some.
I think overall the Model S is more attractive, the exterior at least. The interior is clean but needs more fine details to feel more upscale. It can still be clean but design details matter. Lucid's look is OK, at least it looks like a sedan though it strangely doesn't look as aerodynamic as it probably is.

The steering wheel in the Model S is definitely atrocious and a big miss, but I don't see the issue with stalk-less design. I would have thought the conversation would have progressed past stalk-less designs after the initial shock and discord caused by Ferrari when they first implemented it. Stalk-less seems like a non-issue. Tesla's implementation of it, though? That's a different argument altogether.

Lucid just needs to fix some niggles and offer an estate. How GOOD would this be with an estate? Raise those rear seats about 2 inches and ideally make that motorized to offer head space when needed.
If Lucid go the way of all EV makers (lead by tesla) and refuse to sell what people actually want, which chop shop would be best placed for a conversion? It's been done to Model S's as well. Ideally a chop shop would have a few customers lined up to make it a somewhat reasonable endeavor. I'd do it to an EQS (the renders are so nice for an estate), but it lacks the frunk and that's just enraging in such a posh car. The driver should keep his bags on the other side of the car, right?

I went on a 3 day trip with a Lucid and boy what a disappointment, The infotainment system worked on it's on schedule and tbh feels dated. The car as a whole just didn't feel anywhere near a 150k+ car especially when you consider the panel gaps and already dated feeling interior. Just seems like they will always be behind the curve, but also charge a premium.
Tesla may not use the highest quality materials, but the execution is done right from my time with them. To me the Minimalist swedish living room feeling I get from them is calming and less gimmicky than the Lucid imo. Plus the user interface is like comparing an iPhone to a blackberry (no exaggeration)
I personally would go for the Model X and be done with it.

    • @benjaminsmith2287

Tesla is not a Swedish like design IMO. Coming from Volvo/Polestar, Tesla is very much a tech, USA type of experience. Also, can Tesla even make a gray interior and offer interior colors? Just black and white or black seems very cost cutting IMO.
The Lucid, to my eyes, looks fresher and newer. Even with the updated, very improved S/X interior, there are aspects of it that look dated as it still is a 10 year old design. I understand the GUI isn't as good but GUIs can be updated.

I would have to disagree with you on some of your Lucid observations. First, the low roof is a bigger problem getting in and out than u make out. I am 6ft 4in and hitting ur head on the roof when u get in and out is a real thing.
Secondly, the view is pretty weird out of the Lucid. That sun visor that u mentioned in passing, narrows ur view out to the space between it and the dashboard. In other words, very slim. The extended windscreen doesn't come into view, really.
I was waiting for you to try and charge your phone in the Lucid. Almost impossible. The worst phone charger design, maybe in the entire industry.
The massage function makes for some very uncomfortable seats! I'd always have that function off.
While I agree that the Lucid drives smoother and more quietly than the S, the difference is NOT night and day like u imply.
You already mentioned the software but I was particularly disappointed in the stereo system. The implementation is rubbish (explains why they are trying to implement ACP) and the sound production is a nothingburger.
