    I don't think anyone is going to buy a supersport for city riding (or at least I don't think they will), but regardless of what makes sense I know many of you guys looking into the R7 will be riding, to at least some degree inside of a city setting. With this in mind I torture my body again for the betterment of science and today, I'm riding the Yamaha R7 around Atlanta, Ga to see how well it does.

    OC: My commute is 90% highway, 30mi one way. I had an '09 R6 and it was just too uncomfortable for me, especially if I hit traffic. The clutch on that thing was WAY too stiff. My '14 FZ-09 is leaps and bounds better for my commute and it's pretty good on the longer rides. I took it from Mesa, AZ to Flagstaff, AZ and my butt was sore but it was way better than had I been on a SS of any kind. To me, SS bikes are a great 2nd bike. Have your comfy commuter and a canyon carver if you can.

    I live near San Fran i have around 3.3K miles on the R7. lots of commuting as well as canyon riding. I have been riding for about 4 months now. had an R3 before this and honestly this bike is exactly how you describe it. The OEM suspension tune was very stiff and I had alot of speed wobbles going fast on the freeway. So i highly suggest anyone who does by this find a nearby suspension tuner and get it tuned makes the ride a little bit more bumpy but defiantly worth it. Also the bike does really well with high winds! I live near a pass of windmills with 30+mph winds and have rode this bike though that no problem. Ah last but not least. Don't get me wrong battleaxe is an amazing tire but i usually ride in the mornings and I have a tough time warming these puppies up(OEM Tires). IF you were to get the bike before winter time I would suggest getting some wet tires. Another benefit that i have noticed is that there are several mod parts that are similar. such as you can use the tail section and the windscreen section from the R6 on the R7. I just recently installed the PUIG racing windscreen also the integrated tail ligt from the R6 is the same. Also another huge aspect of why the R7 is so great especially here in CA where lane filtering/splitting is allowed. It is so thin and that being said you have more margin for error when placing the bike and finding escape routes.

    • @princemeerkat5915
      @princemeerkat5915 2 роки тому +4

      @@ScreamingReel500 He tuned my R7 to my weight and riding. The way he does it is you sign up for track day where he is at and then he will tune your bike after each session you ride. (I did it at thunder hill east) The track tune makes you feel the road more but it definitely helps with he front end more planted on the ground.

    I am sort of chuckling - I applaud your video, but it made me flash back to when driving my bike some 40 years ago, in Manhattan and NY areas.
    In watching your frontal view and speaking of the roads, I thought back years ago to 2nd Avenue. Today, Im still trying to figure how some MSF best practices can apply in that kind of city traffic.
    In NYC, you are to move like a stampede of Buffalo, where ready to handle your exception conditions like double parked trucks, and simultaneously you must lift off your seat to ride the Pot hole out, etc -
    It also made me think back to when my wife was young, and we'd hop on 'Beauty' and loop Manhattan when the traffic was off hours. We would launch out of Soho to the West Side, and the loop south going up the east side, or loop west, and then follow up the west side till reaching the George Washington Bridge. You would launch onto the Cross County, for a few moments just to exit at the Harlem river drive that would take you south back to the FDR -
    Motorcycle safety or how to drive in the city back then were not cognitive events -

This summer I've ridden KTM and Husqvarna ( Adventure segment) found their gearboxes a bit of a hassle to find neutral from 1st gear and 2nd gear. I've mentioned that to a couple of people and I was corrected by someone that said Adventure/ Dual Sport bikes are supposed to be like that for better off-road purposes. I cannot find anything on the internet regarding this. What do you think ?

    The clutch is the first thing you will notice in city rides. I commute 10 miles everyday, which takes 1.5 hours each time, in the city with highest traffic congestion in Asia. If your clutch is hard to pull, you would want to cut off your fingers after going home. I had to upgrade my Gixxer's clutch into Hydraulic due to the pain in my wrist and fingers. Leaning position doesn't matter much as you get used to it after few weeks at best.

    The muscles that are used to pull the clutch are the forearm flexors and tensors. Unless you are operating an unusually hard clutch, you should not have plain in the fingers. If I spend too much time pulling the clutch in the city, it’s the fore arm tensors that are the problem for me.

    (OC here)
    I am in Manila PH and the city roads here, well, let's just say that your roads are vanilla smooth compared to the "best" city roads we have here. I was thinking of the ZX6R before (I'm a Kawi fanboy) but having a 4-cylinder screamer does not really go well with my budget. Then I had to think of the Ninja400 but then again I already have a 2-cylinder naked bike that puts down the same power as the Ninja. So that's when I got interested in the CP2 engine of Yamaha but I don't want to get the MT07 because I already have a naked bike. I have been watching your R7 videos and they have been a ton of help. I also watched Waheed's reviews as they are golden. So now, since I want a second bike with supersports ergos but is still reasonable for city riding and maybe not more than 10 trackdays in a year, the R7 really is attractive. The last straw for me will be the price since I can actually convert my naked bike to supersports ergos with just a few coins to break, if the R7 will come out here in am affordable price package, I will probably go give my doctor the go on selling one of my organs.

    Chase you have now ridden both the updated R3 and the R7. So, as someone who is currently riding and enjoying the R3 I have a question: would you consider it worth to upgrade in near future (eg. 2-3 years) from R3 to R7. Is there enough of the reason, other than more power and a bit different looks, to upgrade?

    • @troyjollimore4100
      @troyjollimore4100 2 роки тому +5

      That's an odd question. If you're small enough that a 300-400 class bike satisfies you, then there is no reason to upgrade. But many riders want that little extra kick in the pants that only more cc's can give them. Note that in an earlier video he says there is no reason to buy a liter bike... Then he chooses the MT-10 as his personal ride? ;)

    • @tdunster2011
      @tdunster2011 2 роки тому

      The ride position of the R3 is near perfect. The only weakness is the suspension and lack of torque if you are on the heavy side. Linear springs, cartridges with compression, rebound, and preload fixes the front. Shock with compression, rebound, and preload in the rear to replace the garbage stock unit. Some sticky tyres like Diablo 2 or S20 Evo. Maybe a set of Pazzo levers ... that's about it. The braking improves dramatically once you get the suspension sorted. Still not great - but much better.
      If you want to do high speed highway miles - get a sports tourer like a VFR800 or a Ninja 1000. Supersports get boring quickly if you are in traffic or on long straight roads.

    • @92Cuky_
      @92Cuky_ 2 роки тому

      @@tdunster2011 I haven't found it to lack torque tbh (and I am not light by any means) but the thing that kinda got me disappointed from day one are brakes. When time comes to change brake pads I'll try with some better quality ones and see if that will make a difference. Front brakes are ok to slow down a bit, but I feel like they don't really bite enough if you try to brake hard. Rear brake I just hate. I know it's purpose is to help the front and not to be used alone to stop etc. But whenever I try to use rear brake it islike nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing and then ABS kicks in.
      As for suspension I don't think I want to invest that much money into the bike that I am not sure I will have long term. And for my riding it does just fine.
