From where I live if can take over an hr to drive to downtown LA but usually takes me 20-30 mins on motorcycle.
Being a fellow R7 owner. I rode my bike from LA to San Jose right after I picked it up. Being that it’s a super sport, I knew what I was getting myself into. The ride wasn’t uncomfortable to me at all personally. I only stopped for gas a water during the trip, and it was honestly a blast. R7 is not a supersport. supersports are not going to be comfortable on long rides. you are supposed to squeeze with your legs and core and bend you arms so they are 90 degrees. if you do it right you arms don't get tired, and your wrists don't hurt because you aren't putting supporting your body weight on your wrists. if you are riding at fast speeds, such as highway speeds, you can generally stay more upright longer because the wind will help keep you up a bit. but you still have to lean over enough to at least have hold of the throttle. the exception is if you have a "cruise control" mod, but even then that only reduces the hand cramps from holding the throttle in place. eventually, your back and legs will get sore and hurt. your hands will cramp up. you COULD get some handlebar risers, and there are some aftermarket ones that go up like 3 inches which is HUGE, but then you have to get new brake and throttle cables, and chop up your front end because it will no longer have clearance. EVEN then, you'll be more upright, but it still won't be as comfortable as a cruiser. riding a supersport as a crusier is uncomfortable. they are designed to basically be laid down on for racing. you can do it sure, but it will not be enjoyable. just get a cruiser for the road trips, and save the crotch rocket for the track or fun little weekend rides or short commutes in the city.

One thing to note, I had to order some EPDM rubber hose(1/2" OD and 1/4" ID) since the hose from the brake reservoir to the master cylinder is real short and is a limiting factor of adjusting the orientation of your grips and brake lever. I had to order the hose in a longer length, so I have some to spare, for the next 10 times I have to do this. LOL. I got what I needed though.

I've been on a 01 ZX6R up until about 3 years ago....getting older and with a bad back I looked into the nakeds, found a good used Suzuki GSXS 1000 and it's the best move I have ever made. The ZX6R has not been rode once since getting the naked. Comfort, tons of power, tons of torque and handling is so much better....I've done several 4-6 hour mountain trips.
Been commuting close to 3 hours a day back and forth on R6. At first it was tiring, then body starting to get used to it, then some days I feel tired. But, I’d still do it cos once I ride the pain is all gone, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Gas station stops are always so much fun. We used to ride at night to drive in the cooler morning hours with my family car road trips. So when I get my bike to a garage and filling it up I absolutely get that nostalgic feeling too! Drive safe!
I love long road trips on my bike. I rode my 18’ R6 from Atlanta to Twentynine Palms, CA over a weekend. Time I’m home, let’s do a long road trip, Chase!
Longer rides are for the naked bike categories. You still get the sport look but way more comfortable. I just bought the 2020 Z900 and it’s awesome! Tons of character, torque galore, and the engine sounds so good! Super comfy.
Love my R7. When riding swiftly it feels amazing. For stop and go traffic or long hauls it does get uncomfortable after a while. I reduced this problem SUBSTANTIALLY by installing a riser that brought the handlebars up about 1.75 inches. Still great to lean into it but WAY more comfortable when sitting upright or stuck at red lights. I'm 5'10 and an intermediate skilled rider.
Way to take one for the team. Music for the ride back was cool. I don't know why anyone would really want to tour on any bike for seven hours. At best it would be a necessary evil on the way to some place nice. Maybe I just don't know of seven hours worth of roads that wouldn't bore me. I've done 4.5 hours quite happily without being sore at all on my '05 R6, FWIW. I use a crampbuster, and that or a cruise control would have made your trip a lot better.
I love your comprehensive reviews so much. Been watching you for a while, not really sure how long but definitely since around September of 2019, when I was trying to get into bikes as a hobby. I think the quality of your content is unmatched, your reviews are in depth and unbiased, and also fun to watch! I really really dislike Yammie noob. He's an example of a BAD reviewer. He's very biased and I rarely ever hear him say anything good about any bike that's not an MT-07 or an R1. I've been meaning to get into the hobby for so long but still trying to find the right bike for me. I want something I can cruise on for fun on the weekends and go on road trips in. I live in Phoenix, AZ and would love to be able to take a bike on a weekend cruise to California and back. Still have not found the right bike for me but still looking and watching videos like this to get my "fill" haha. Been thinking about the Rebel 500 but there is pros and cons to that bike. Still unsure.
In certain angle, the R7 front lights looks like a GSXR... At the ending, sitback and talking looks great... That POV reminds me, during pitstops my friends and i, we normally sit by the curb, some coffee and adoring the backend of the Bike ...
OC: Definitely not for long commutes. But a day in the mountains, especially my favourite mountain road I'd go for that. Cruise control on the highway would be the only thing I'd want. Because roughly 2 hours to the mountains and back. Your wrist will thank God for cruise control when you want to spend the whole day doing some technical riding in the mountains.
Even though I've got an automated hand slapping me every 10 seconds, it kinda helps me stay awake, god i love this sports bike for touring! 4:50 - 5:52
Don't let your pelvis tilt forward, keep it upright with the stomach pulled in and the lower back filled out. If you let the pelvis tilt forward, your back will sag and it will tire. I learned this from riding road bicycles where the handlebar is well below the saddle.
OC. Have you done a similar ride to compare this to the Aprilia RS660? Curious to know your thoughts over the long distance test and what the overall fuel efficiency was like for either/both bikes. Thank you. Keep up the good work 👏👏
I still remember my 10 hour ride on my R1. Had an Air ride seat. I would just lay on the tank for hours. no cruise control either. It was alright with that seat.
Exactly why I ended up with a Supersport S over the Panigale v2 in the Ducati world. I can ride the SSS all day no problem, the v2 has it's limits. Seems like the R7 actually fits in between them.
Same reason I bought a cbr650r it's a nice balance. Not quite a vfr or k1200 but it's still perfect for most rides and handles the highways fine for a sport bike
Thanks for the video! I have a Ninja 650. Left middle Georgia, rode to Deals Gap, the Dragon, ate lunch, rode the Dragon, rode back to middle Georgia. 6 hours each way plus the ride while there. No problems! Have made many multi day trips to multiple states. Still love it, but was interested in getting an R7. Will consider!
@@dknightrider900 I hear ya on that! I took my first trip up to blood in June and it was a totally different experience from our local roads. Looking forward to going back one day soon, but I need to get faster in the curves to keep up with my group.
The best handling and most comfortable sports bikes I have ridden and owned over the past 37 years have been 3-4 hours tops and you are done. I did an 8 hour round trip on a GSXR1000 K2 back in the day and basically passed out on the bed in my leathers when I got home lol..

I love my R7 as a beginner 1st year riding. Week 1 you’ll feel sore but as i spend time with it after having it a little over a month I can commute with it no problem 1-2hrs riding. GREAT BIKE imo!!!
Idk who’s riding this bike for 7 hours str8, at that point just load it up in the truck, if I can ride it for a few hours with no problems that’s good enough
Just some advice for any riders out there that have to use a sport bike, I always like carrying some luggage with me on the backseat. I then bring some straps and a pillow and put the pillow in between the straps. It helps a lot with soreness on long trips.
Get fit chase. That would really help. I'm not abusing you here weight wise... I know 55+ year olds, in good shape, who tour Europe on superbikes and don't get beat up like you just did on one pretty short ride tbh. The answer is to get a bit lighter and stronger and more flexible and persevere with one bike to adapt and work the specific muscle groups that it stresses.
with enough conditioning, you could ride anything, even a bike with no suspension like they did long time ago. The vid would be meaningless to most people today if the rider in the video was that tough, We wouldn't get an idea on how the bike feels for us regular unfit folks 😹
OC - I've got a 90 minute commute. My triumphs street triple it's all a matter of luggage. I only ride leathers might as well be going to the track. So I got to take my lunch and my work clothes with me everyday.
This is one of the reasons I sacrificed power and bought a CBR500R and modified the widescreen, intake, exhaust, and ECU program. Everything else was like it was made for touring. I routinely do 200+ mile rides. The last one was to RMNP and back. I averaged 76 MPG between the highway, city, and park riding and had no problems keeping up with the two 120 hp touring bikes I was with. I think the R7 could be a great tourer it just needs a throttle lock, cushier seat, taller windscreen, and maybe aftermarket adjustable rear sets.
I laughed so hard towards the end! I wanted a FZ1 couldn’t get a used one fast enough off internet l! So I settled for R1! I’m still happy! I found that a comfy spot on the bike after riding & gtg used to the horsepower! Hadn’t had a motorcycle in 20 plus years! Sport bikes are fun but extremely long rides are interesting!
Good video, you can use any bike for long distance rides if you get a trailer, tow the bike on Highways and enjoy riding on nicer roads. I have naked bike, planning long distance trip 3000km , I am purchasing a trailer for the 2000km highways ( return), the 1000km will be a week of riding on nicer roads .
I live about 4 miles from pavement, but it's doable on a bike.. once you hit the highway, there's about 3/4 mile of straight, and then you go over a small pass... I believe there's a video somewhere on the tube of someone riding over it, White Pine Drive ... its like 29 curves in 6 miles, and all around where I live is beautiful 2 lane curvy mountain highways... someday I will have a scoot and do some vlogging... I did a day of just over 9hrs on a 600 once, and after a few ibuprofen, a hot shower, and a sleep, I wished I could've went another 5-7 hrs again the next day.... I'm short, like 5'7", so not too cramped up, and could lay down and hang my feet on the passenger pegs... Cheers...
OC: I'd commute on it because it's narrow so it will it through traffic. Something an MT-09 with those massive wide bars struggles with. I'm 1.8m and 72kg so at open road speed I find the air pressure is a good counterbalance so I don't feel the need to lean on the tank. My legs get cramp from being curled up though.

If your racing like track racing then I can see the justification for a super bike position. In real world riding the upright body position is just so much better love both, but I ride more on my naked and my body says thank you
i commuted on my R1, i mean if the commute is short you want more, now on a 3+ fun weekend ride, that seating is not the best especially with a bad back, but you get over it. Cruiser/Tourer is the way for long trips, sport bike is fun tho, don't see me living without a sport bike till my back just can't anymore.
OC: Now take my opinion with a grain of salt cause i’m a new rider and I just picked up my R7 yesterday. But I commuted to work this morning (30 mins) and I was more than fine. I think most people don’t have a commute longer than an hour and it should be more than fine for that. For any wondering I’m 5’6” with a 31 inch inseam.
OC: glad you got up ok. I feel your pain man. I wouldn’t want to commute on that bike for longer than 2 hours max. Need a break in between that time. Hope your back is ok man.
yeah on a crotch rocket you'd wanna take a 20 min break and stretch every 1-2 hours. this is going to add more time on your commute, which doesn't matter if you don't care, but if you are on a timetable adding al that extra time, extra hours of travel can be tedious and bad.
I did a 15 hour/ 1100 km ride on my CBR650R a couple weeks ago. Wasn’t as bad as I thought and I wasn’t sore one bit the next day. Was deciding between R7 and CBR650R but I’m glad I went with the CBR instead

Good to hear, I'm waiting for the new gsx-s1000, I love the look of it also.
You guys fixed the turn signal finally! THANK YOU SO MUCH! :))))
Been commuting close to 3 hours a day back and forth on R6. At first it was tiring, then body starting to get used to it, then some days I feel tired. But, I’d still do it cos once I ride the pain is all gone, physically, mentally, and emotionally.
That's legitimately impressive for that riding position
Gas station stops are always so much fun. We used to ride at night to drive in the cooler morning hours with my family car road trips. So when I get my bike to a garage and filling it up I absolutely get that nostalgic feeling too! Drive safe!
I love long road trips on my bike. I rode my 18’ R6 from Atlanta to Twentynine Palms, CA over a weekend. Time I’m home, let’s do a long road trip, Chase!
that was supposed to say, NEXT time I'm home.
That camera angle from the car gives a very satisfying view of the bike in motion. Nice!
Agreed on cruise control
Even though I've got an automated hand slapping me every 10 seconds, it kinda helps me stay awake, god i love this sports bike for touring!
4:50 - 5:52
Yamaha filed patent for R9 and R2 in Europe and Australia.
This is a good news for everyone.
I'm holding out for that R9, imagine that nutter of a triple in a sportbike without any electronics to keep the cost doable
Sign me up! (:
@@Sfekke they will definitely give the full electronic package, these days that's one of the selling points.
Don't let your pelvis tilt forward, keep it upright with the stomach pulled in and the lower back filled out. If you let the pelvis tilt forward, your back will sag and it will tire. I learned this from riding road bicycles where the handlebar is well below the saddle.
I find if I do what you're saying then all the pressure is on thin part of the seat on my ass bones and inner thighs, gets sore pretty quick lol
@@motardbrah7768 You might try wearing some padded bicycle shorts under your riding pants.
It was alright with that seat.
lololol 💀
Exactly why I ended up with a Supersport S over the Panigale v2 in the Ducati world. I can ride the SSS all day no problem, the v2 has it's limits. Seems like the R7 actually fits in between them.
Same reason I bought a cbr650r it's a nice balance. Not quite a vfr or k1200 but it's still perfect for most rides and handles the highways fine for a sport bike
My record on my CBR650R was just over 900mi in a day, all highway. Not the best idea, but def more manageable than I expected.
I’m in middle Georgia too, ever ride hwy 42 in Byron?
@@superchrisguy Yes! I enjoy Hwy 42. Would really enjoy having some of the north Georgia roads here, but.....
OC: Thank you so much for this video, I was wondering what it would be like riding the R7 for an extended period of time. Considering moving to Warner Robins and wondered what a commute from there to Atlanta would be like.
I picked mine up yesterday and immediately put 2+ hours on it and I was more than fine on the comfort side of things! If you have any other question feel free to ask
Why does everyone comment OC?
I love my R7 as a beginner 1st year riding. Week 1 you’ll feel sore but as i spend time with it after having it a little over a month I can commute with it no problem 1-2hrs riding. GREAT BIKE imo!!!
Idk who’s riding this bike for 7 hours str8, at that point just load it up in the truck, if I can ride it for a few hours with no problems that’s good enough
Eeek just got an R7 as my first bike and will be riding it 3 hours back from the dealer tomorrow 😬🤞
This was exactly what I needed to watch. Planning to fly down to NSW to buy a R7. Then ride it 7hours homes to save 1.1k.
Just some advice for any riders out there that have to use a sport bike, I always like carrying some luggage with me on the backseat. I then bring some straps and a pillow and put the pillow in between the straps. It helps a lot with soreness on long trips.
Awesome video R7 is definitely a bike I am looking into.
I don't believe Chase rode for 7 hours. Duh the video is only 15 mins long. LOL
OC can't wait for the mountain video.
I watch alot of your videos and just realized I live very nearby! I stop by the Avalon most weekends.
You're better than me. I have a hard time doing 3 hours but I just have an MT-03. I'm gonna get me one of those for sure.
I test rode this on the track and I can attest to how potent this bike is.
The vid would be meaningless to most people today if the rider in the video was that tough, We wouldn't get an idea on how the bike feels for us regular unfit folks 😹
even when i drive across state to visit home i get that warm fuzzy travel feeling. So i get ya
This is exactly the video I was looking for!!
If this was an R9 based on the MT09 then I'd be all in, a parallel twin just doesn't cut it though.
Sport bikes are fun but extremely long rides are interesting!
bro, you can say WE homie because WE are with you!!!!!
If I sat in a recliner for 7hrs I would be sore! Lol, seems like the bike did well. I want one!
Cheers...
Get a R7!!!!! Please!!!! I’m living my motorcycle life through you
OC: I'd commute on it because it's narrow so it will it through traffic. Something an MT-09 with those massive wide bars struggles with. I'm 1.8m and 72kg so at open road speed I find the air pressure is a good counterbalance so I don't feel the need to lean on the tank. My legs get cramp from being curled up though.
I don't know man, this R7 reminds me about Holly, the Red R6..
Ride safe, Chase! Cheers from Indonesia!
I've noticed you've driven through forsyth. I was like, " I recognized this highway. Pretty cool
I can’t remember the last time I saw a RaceTrac. They changed their name to RaceWay everywhere I love. Wild.
instantly i feel better when i saw you in the mountians surounded by trees, green flora and fauna , the healing power of nature, i would never live in a city where there is only skyscrappers and concrete, the big apple, most depressing place on earth , i avoid all those shit crap awfull low vib mega cities where there is no trees or anything of nature, nice vid bro,
OC: Having fun to and from work 🤩🤙
I’ve been back and forth about getting a bike for years. Soon as I saw the R7 I was like yeah I’m getting one 😂
Exactly how I felt 😂
Did you get one? I have a MT07! It’s awesome
@@TypicalMT not yet. Going this weekend to try and schedule my MSF course
@@tristanblake2204 good luck!
@@tristanblake2204 when I scheduled my msf, I emailed them and said if any earlier classes come up to fill me in! Got in that weekend had my bike delivered Friday, was on it 2 hours after my course on Sunday!
My CBR1000RR was awesome and comfortable but you don’t know what your missing until you jump on a super naked. I rode my FZ10 for 2600 miles with tons of power and comfort. If your racing like track racing then I can see the justification for a super bike position. In real world riding the upright body position is just so much better love both, but I ride more on my naked and my body says thank you
Thanks for your honesty! Love to see yr review after you rested lol
i commuted on my R1, i mean if the commute is short you want more, now on a 3+ fun weekend ride, that seating is not the best especially with a bad back, but you get over it.
Bro can you flat foot with both feet on the ground?
Lovely review video, mate! Too honest. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Rode a Buell 1125r from San Diego to Seattle to Dayton, OH stringing together several 10 hour days.
Weight has a large factor with seat comfort. Your height and inseam don't matter as much (yes they still obviously do a bit).
So true about the fill up. Never thought about it that way.
Love the first petrol stop before a long day of riding 😎
Bought a R7 as my first bike
Well this weekend gonna b my first purchase of the 2021 for the first time in my life I’m gonna feel the difference between car an freedom lol
I did a 15 hour/ 1100 km ride on my CBR650R a couple weeks ago. Wasn’t as bad as I thought and I wasn’t sore one bit the next day. Was deciding between R7 and CBR650R but I’m glad I went with the CBR instead
OC: it’d be better than my H-D Road King at lane splitting NYC traffic on the way to work. Might look into purchasing one next year when I no longer have to save for a wedding.
love this bike so much its my background lol. truely wishing i could ride right now!
OC at least 2x during your day becomes something to look forward to.
Yup I did 600 miles round trip on an sv upright naked configuration. Brutal, nvr again and I’ve ridden sport bikes a lot. After an hour I’m broken.
I rode an R6 1800 miles one way total 3600 on 3 different trips. Sport bikes are great for long rides
OC: Being used to riding a dyna, I'm feeling cramped after an hour on my z900, can't imagine a R7 would feel much better!!!
I can't believe you actually went to Dahlonega mountain!
As soon as I saw the caption I was sure your wrist and back gonna be in extreme pain by the end and boy ohh boy was I close to what I thought 😆
When he threw the gloves at it 😂😂
Hopefully the R9 has cruise control like the MT09SP
My commute is only about an hour I think I’ll be good
I’d love to do a long ride on a Goldwing. Feels like the gold standard when it comes to cross country riding.
OC: sportsbikes are not meant for touring. unless it's your only bike, there are better options out there for long riding.
Thanks for telling the obvious
I rode a ktm rc390 from Miami to Charleston and it was the longest 11 hours of my life. 3 days later I did the reverse trip...hell.
i dont understand so many sportsbike sales to ride on mainly highway and city i dont even register a sportsbike its only for track days rather go with a scrambler/ enduro bike for everyday
