Totally, the both of them have a good chemistry and complement each other very well. Definitely Marko and Tarja took their roles very seriously to perform and with the support of a great band members like all of they are. And Tarja is Tarja, regardless Floor is also a great singer and both of them are good friends and also have the same operatical training and education in music.

I was a fan of Nightwish just when Tarja was there. Flor is good and have a nice voice, good stage presence, but Tarja is unbelievable. And her voice with Marko's voice, hit straight to the core, especially in this song :)
Tarja, the original singer, is who drew me into Nightwish. Their second singer, Annette (who you have not reacted to), I felt did not match the band’s style well, so I stopped listening to them for a long time. A few years ago, I listened to them again after they gained Floor, and I’m back on them. Floor is my favorite of the three.
Floor is also my favorite,,, Anette did some really good album work- not great live on Tarja songs.. Floor is the total package.

It's impossible to choose between them. Tarja's voice fits better in songs like Phantom but then again it was Floor who made Ghost Love Score a masterpiece. Sure it was always a masterpiece but Floor really put final touches to it.
Even though I never had any problem with Anette, she never was on the par with Tarja and Floor. Anette has a clear and powerful voice but she leans more towards a pop singer. Nothing wrong with that but with Nightwish you need to have something extra.

from the moment they created I used to be a fan.I love Tarja. Her voice, her profile, her performance. I was disbelieved about Floor, even though I was a fan to her previous band 'after forever' cause she was going to perform after legend Tarja, But , there she was and proofed us wrong.I love the way she performs with Nightwish and I kinda think she is better in general..
I discovered Nightwish in 1999 so I am a Tarja fanboy. When the band decided to dismiss Tarja, the first name and only name for me to pop in my mind as a worthy of taking her spot was Floor. And I can fully understand why they didn't pursue Floor at the time because she was having her own success in After Forever. The bass player Marco Hietala has been in the music scene for over 30 years, releasing 9 albums with his first band Tarot. The first replacement singer Annette was an ok singer but CANNOT do what Tarja or Floor can do.

@@elyeliza8287 I 'hated' Tuomas after the saga with Tarja's leaving. I am also a fan of the band since the late 1990s, so it hit me hard the way that Tarja was let go. However, after hearing The poet and the pendulum, Tuomas was forgiven by me, as the song tells that he seriously suffered tons for what happened.

I was really upset with him too because of their complaints with her in that letter, I was convinced that to Tuomas, Tarja was his secret Christine, and was really just hurt and jealous that she married someone else. I remember when I watched their old documentary, he was always falling down drunk all the time and they had to take care of him. I wondered why with all that beautiful music flowing out through him, and that gorgeous festive Disney-inspired stuff too, is he so unhappy? I figured maybe he's like one of those really smart prodigal people who almost can't function here around most people if not for booze. I conjured my own drama about it. XD But anyway, he makes life so much more beautiful with his amazing talent. I love both Tarja and Floor. Tarja’s voice is what drew me in all those years ago and introduced me to symphonic metal. I’ve seen them perform in several countries spanning two decades and I’m grateful to have their discography as a bit of a soundtrack to my life since my teen years. All that said, Floor is my personal preference as lead vocalist. Marko is incredible too and deserves a mention. Looove when they sing together and harmonize to the point where their voices meld and sound almost like one... *happy sigh*
That’s not to say either Tarja or Anette were in any way less accomplished as leads, I just prefer Floor’s range and diversity over Tarja’s more strictly classical approach and Anette’s more poppy sound. That she can go from a growl all the way up to operatic and back down in a single breath with a smile on her face is to me simply magical and I appreciate the goosebumps I get when she flips through the different “styles” with such ease. She feels like the perfect fit that can do it all. Angelic arias and growling headbangs and windmills... I mean... yeah... Love Tarja, but Floor ticks more boxes for me personally.

Well tarja is an operatic singer, so she is naturally fitted for this song. She has a warm dark voice which matches the tone of the Phantom of the Opera... Floor on the other hand has more range in her style, meaning she can go classic or contemporary... so she may not do THIS particular vocal as dramatically as Tarja, but across the board I think Floor is a better fit for the “metal” band that Nightwish is.
Both can do things that the other can't, that's for sure. I love both of them and if someone had to become the new singer of Nightwish, then Floor was the best option by far.

jon more I don’t know how much training is required to be considered “operatic”... I’ll have to google that... but I know she definitely was classically trained (no google for that, you only need your ears lol), but she’s got that range too man, she can belt like a beast when she wants to, and I love that about her.

@@Samantha2209 she can belt like a beast... fair point, but she can't sustain it like Farja, her power lies in her warm broad mid range, and her low range, her vocals are much broader and warmer than Tarja's, but Tarja's were brighter and clearer (especially at high range) and were more in keeping with the bands musical etho's at the time, i'm old enough to have now seen them both live, and Tarja is in my experience by far the better all round performer.

My thoughts exactly, Tarja edges Floor out on the operatic stuff, but that’s all she does, she’s all head voice, and she’s great at it and sounds amazing, but Floor as a beautiful operatic soprano as well and can also do literally anything else you need her to vocally, she’s complete, perfect singer for Nightwish

Tarja is my favorite. But Floor is great too. Marco Hietala is the singing basist. His former band is Tarot.
he is still in Tarot. the drummer of Tarot had a serious illness so the band didn't record new album, and in 2016 that he passed away the band is on break.

You should explore the situation a bit deeper, her departure wasn't nice so you wont find her as a surprise act nowdays. But Tarja did start her solo career after she was kicked out of NW and she did invite Floor to sing with her on one song at her concert so luckily for us, there is a performance where both of them sing together!
There's also recent performances where Tarja and Marco performed together again. Tarja also kept in touch with Emppu after the split and even talked to Jukka from time to time. However Toumas and Tarja still hasn't seemed to healed their wounds. So far, it is difficult to find Tarja's side of the story and requires use of the Internet Wayback Machine. Last I checked, Toumas still has that damn open letter on the Nightwish site.

Yep, Tarja is quite brilliant singer too, I like many of her versions, but... there's no one like Floor's versatility and supremacy! This high note at the end was D6 by the way - the note that anyone doesn't dare to reach just like that at LIVE concert which goes to DVD. Bass player/second vocalist is Marco Hietala - super cool dude, brilliant musician and awesome singer.
If you like Marco's voice, he is the lead singer on Nightwish's "The Islander", which you should definitely check out Live at Tampere. One of my favourite songs by the band as a whole.
As for Tarja vs. Floor. I like all three of the Nightwish frontwomen, for different reasons, but Floor is my favourite, she brings a lot more versatility and can effectively execute the largest range of their musical catalogue.

I really like Epica, except for one thing....they to do much of those death vocals. Simone is a wonderful singer and the band is very good but for me it just ruins the song. Same with Amaranthe. Elize Ryd can sing her butt off and former singer Jake was soooo dang good. But those other vocals are just horrible.
@@bumbolee you just have to get into them. Once you do, you will at least very appreciate them. They can add a ton to the music. Try to view them not as vocals, but instruments, as that is their main purpose.
Marco is a singing beast!!! He’s went through 3 different singers and changed his pitch and tone to fit perfectly with each one...To answer your question... FLOOR is the metal Queen!!! My backing statement is that Floor can sing all the older songs and newer in any style she feels like on a given night... she has it all!!! Most of all she’s Humble!! I don't have a favorite, they're both great. I can't and won't choose. They're both different but talented. It's like choosing between Messi or Ronaldo you know your going to win with either one but they play different styles.

The band did not even had the balls to tell her face to face, that they gonna kick her out, so they wrote a letter and gave it to her after the last show!
That's when I stopped following the band! I'm 100% a Tarja-Lover and I still love the band of her time, but I do not care, what they did since then - in my opinion they don't deserve to be cared of!

Tarja was one of the pioneers of soprano voices over Metal music, creating a genre that so many of us love today, so props have to go to her! I am new to Nightwish, but so far I'm a fan of the new singer Floor. I've listened to Tarja's original version of Ghost Love Score and Floor's (new singer) live version to compare. And Floor adds what the song was missing, an epic climactic ending. The original song just seems to fade away but the new singer (Floor) belts out some emotionally charged high notes at the end that leave the listener satisfied and in awe. Plus I think she just fits the band better than Tarja did. Her stage presence and style meld very well with Nightwish

For me Tarja was like Darksied on Apocalyspe Thanos on planet Titan everytime you saw Tarja it was like an Archangel going to do the lords work she had that presence about her Floor doesnt have. Since your newer to the band you'll always favour Floor, Floor is doing amazing things with the band but I cant forget Tarja greatness.

My favorite singer depends on the song that is being sung bro. Tarja is TOTALLY meant for the pure classical element, whereas Floor is meant for more metal elements.
Tarja was special, no doubt about it. The pure operatic quality of her voice was mesmerising. I loved the fantastical epicness of Annette’s singing. Floor though takes Nightwish to new heights. Her vocal range is superb and she is a gorgeous rock chick to boot.

What you just experienced was true mastery.
Tarja in her time with Nightwish reigned supreme.
She was training to become an actual opera singer when they recruited her for Nightwish when she was still very young and as their singer she forged out an international career spanning by now more than twenty years.
Without her in Nightwish it´s quite possible there would have been no Nightwish to speak of and quite possibly no symphonic metal genre as she was the trailblazer more or less single handedly defining this entire style of operatic rock singing.
She was, is and will remain an absolute icon and in the metal community she is untouchable,- even if you like Floor better.
By now there may be other singers beside her but no one above her,- not even Floor.

I prefer Tarja overall. Don't forget that there was another singer in between Tarja and Floor - Anette Olzon. She was on 2 Nightwish albums, which I thought were great. She wasn't an operatic singer, so she wouldn't compare to the others in that way, but she was a great singer in general.

Nightwish isn't about singers. It's about musicians pushing their limits and become the best. Every member of the band is simply an exceptional musician, and Tuomas is a musical genious. Tarja is still an absolute legend, an amazing singer and I adore her in this version of the song. On the other hand, the years Floor Jansen spent side by side with these super talented guys and the hard work she has put on her art, has propelled her into becoming one of the most versatile and best technical singers in the world... She can now sing absolutely everything, and the emotion in her voice can make you cry, every time. She is trully a siren. Just goggle her...

Marco has had Nightwish as a side project for couple of decades now ( ;D ). His other band he founded and sings in, is Tarot, FOUNDED IN EARLY 80'S and still going strong. That is soooooo true! Before, during and after her performances people of all ages, backgrounds and genders were known to react this emotionally to her cadence. Tarja was one of original founders of nightwiish and upon hearing her rich , operatic vocals they realized that being a small time folk band would be wasted with her magnificent voice. so they opted for much greater heights and went with operatic/symphonic metal genre.ALWAYS keetos-thank you in Finnish....if you like this , you would love Simone of the band Epica

I like them both, but in my opinion, for the kind of music that nightwish make, Floor is perfect. The guy singer and bassist is Marco, he is pretty good too. You have to listen to their cover from pink Floyd's song high hope, with Marco doing all the singing. Also there's a performance with both singers Tarja and Floor, just don't remember which song is. Both, Tarja and Floor fit perfectly with nightwish, the original singer is Tarja and they make a lot of good things with her, they own a lot bc of her, but I think Floor is so damn good too, her voice is so powerful, pretty different but powerful, she can do rock and opera, that’s the diferente between floor and tarja

There were three female lead singers.
The first, who you are watching now is Tarja Turunen
. Turunen was fired at the end of the band’s 2005 tour, and was subsequently replaced by Olzon in 2007 after a global singer search.
Tarja Turunen went solo and makes her own stuff now.
Then there was Anette Olzon. Olzon abruptly left NIGHTWISH last September in the middle of the band’s North American tour. Former AFTER FOREVER and current REVAMP singer Floor Jansen was tapped as her replacement.
Anette Olzon has revealed she rejected the idea of having Floor Jansen stand in as Nightwish singer because she believed it would lead to her dismissal.
The argument arose when she asked for an Australian tour to be postponed during her pregnancy in 2012.

Yes, her duet with Henk is incredible. However, I still prefer this version over that one (altho' Floor's ending is OVER THE TOP). Part of why I like Tarja's Phantom better is because Marco is almost perfect. Henk was great but seemed a bit overdone at points.

Yeah. I saw The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway when they came to Birmingham. That start at 2:24 always startles people who are unfamiliar with The Phantom of the Opera. I love it. I took my dad to see it with me, and he had the same reaction as you. Lol. Love your reactions. Much love. ♥
Tarja and Floor are so different as they are AWSOME... Do not compares them, let´s just enjoy and be grateful for having this two Odin´s daugthers between common mortals
If you want to see Floor do a great operatic performance look up her old band After Forever. The life performance of Dreamflight. One of her best performances ever. Not the newer HD scaled one because while it improved the video quality it lost a little audio quality.
Or for some awesome clean and harsh switching with opera her band revamp. The trial of monsters live at grasp 2010.
I loved Disdain. She nailed both vocal parts flawlessly live.

Tarja is a fantastic singer but is more suited to operatic style singing. Whereas Floor has the range to compete with the operatic style but also then hit the deep growls of death metal vocalists.
Absolutely need to check out Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red from Wembley (same show as Poet and the Pendulum) if you like how Marko sings. He takes centre stage and Floor provides more of a complimentary backing vocals.

I've always loved Tarja for her incredibly rich and extremely strong voice and soprano range--there is something incredible in her singing that established Nightwish as one of the biggest bands in the world almost immediately after they started releasing music. The one thing is that she only has that one type of voice, essentially, and you never hear her doing much of anything else. Floor is a bit of a grab bag of everything because she's able to dip into a mix of different vocal approaches effortlessly. Her voice sounds somewhat thinner than Tarja's rich one, but she's absolutely capable of holding her own, and nobody does "Ghost Love Score" live like her. Love them both, and Anette, too.
I always love Tarja Turunen. You can't beat the original because she led the way. Annette stank her voice just rubbed me the wrong way. I used to listen to Floor Jensen when she was in Forever After. I also believe that Marco could have been a better choice after Tarja left the band. Since I was already a huge fan of Floors. Like others I stopped following NightWish when Tarja left. Now I believe that Floor is a Great singer and I was SO happy when she joined Nightwish! However, knowing that Nightwish was formed FOR Tarja I feel and believe she is the best singer from NightWish.
There must have been a reason why Tuomas wanted another front woman than Tarja.

Didi Do Yes, I just discovered Nightwish a couple of months ago. I really tried to keep an open mind to all of their stuff. All three singers. I just have a hard time warming up to the thick operatc sound of Tarja. Just a personal preference. And I know she wanted to leave the band and the band just sped up the process. I think she caused a lot of stress in the time before her leaving. If I’m wrong, maybe you could fill me in. No disrespect.

I used to listen to them too, though only their first two albums -- don't know why I didn't follow after that. A LOT of other bands formed from members of AF. Epica, MaYan, Floor to Nightwish eventually, etc.

I love Nightwish since their first album, I am big fan of Tarja, but personally I like Floor more because of here different types of vocals. Tarja is amazing but 95per of her singing was operatic. Floor can do the same plus much more. For me Nightwish was never better than it is now and honestly... I cant imagine to be.

The expression on your face says it all! It's that expression you see on a neo-nightwish fan who first discovered the band in their current incarnation, when they first hear and experience the Real Nightwish which died in 2005 due to tuomas jealousy and vindictiveness. Yes, Floor is a great singer in her own right, and neo-nightwish isn't a terrible band, but Tarja was the voice and style that defined the real nightwish. Even tuomas used to admit that she was the inspiration behind the entire concept, until he grew angry and jealous.
