ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?

Tarja = Nightwish, that metal-opera works really well with her voice. You can see here, how despite the band is not Nightwish, still sounds like "Nightwish" just for the fact that SHE is MAGIC.
it does not sounds like Nightwish at all, it sounds like Tarja. Not sounding like Nightwish is not a bad thing tho, I'm happy Tarja is doing her own thing in her own style.

I cannot get over how fine Muse chord proggressions are, just pure perfection.
It should be noted that this is *not* a Nightwish performance. At the time this performance was shot (2016), Tarja, having left in 2005, had not been in Nightwish for 11 years! I'm not 100% certain, but this looks like a solo act with her backing band.

Of course it can't be a Nightwish performance MUSE released Supremacy on their "2nd Law" album which came out in 2013, long after Tarja and Nightwish parted ways. It is part of her Tarja solo project.

You should try react to Tarja song (Tarja "Victim Of Ritual" (Live At Woodstock)) - this will crush you. This song is pure example when opera evolves into metal - they used parts of Ravel's bolero
greetings Rebecca...your reviews are very satisfying on so many levels....ohhh..The great wall of Tarja, the Tarjamaester, the Tarja-minator....with a Tarjagams every 3 seconds.....i better quit or her vocals will overwhelm me!!!!!!....i have been a huge fan of Floor Jansen for over 15 tears but to me Tarja possesses very magical powers....i am a former army ranger and this and the entire "wishes to eternity",(where her voice was even, darker), dvd had me rapt to attention an crying numerous spots.. anyway...thanks again for bringing Tarja to the masses....most people don't realize that her voice was the pivotal factor in steering the band in the direction of symphonic metal instead of a folk band...

Tarja is such a vocal beast, I love her, and I love how into the music you get. Given how many female-fronted heavy metal bands you've done in recent times, you may be interested in a band called Exit Eden. They have not just one, but FOUR vocal beasts, though as of right now their only release is an album of covers of pop songs as opposed to original material, but it's no less awesome. Paparazzi, Total Eclipse of the Heart or Impossible live at HH Metal Days are my recommendations for them!

Within Temptation she could only do songs from the first album, maybe the second too. As soon as they changed Label company it changed. Their current label company blocks any video with their music worldwide. Which is the whole reason why you see no reactions from anyone to within temptation.
@@De-M-oN I wasn't aware of that. What a bummer. So a record company doesn't like hype that can promote a band. Pretty dumb but that's the modern way!

Putting tarja on the same level as a Freddie Mercury seems a fair comparison. Skilled at all of her range. Classical songs, to folk/country to full on opera pieces. Strong warm round chest voice to stratospheric soaring vocals. I am not going to attempt to say who is/was better or any value judgement as its out of my wheelhouse. Only saying its no insult to Freddie to have this woman compared to his standard. I can only imagine how much fun both would have had if he lived to sing a duet with her. What a show that would have been. Probably lead to an album together. Both such showmen. Such talent is incredible.

The singer from Within Temptation has had no vocal training/study and is mostly self-taught (which I find very cool)
QUACKJONG - Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana cover), Poison (Alice Cooper cover). I love her singing but has chosen some rather questionable songs that just don’t fit.

Haha the Joey from Friends intro "How youuuu doin'?!"... and Tarja is amazing, hard not to love her. She has one song called "Mystique Voyage - Demo" where the only vocals are a bunch of eee aww and ohh's... and it's still majestic because it's Tarja :D (the instrumental is cool too)
Tarja is still greater than some fans give her credit for.

This is such an underrated RVA vid. I love seeing Rebecca getting into it and just... feeling the music, and getting into the whole deliberate theatricality of it all. Floor gets so much awe for her GLS end flourish but Tarja barely gets any recognition for her Supremacy high notes. Its not perfect each time but always pretty amazing anyways. And she loves her fans, she looks so happy and joyful on stage, gracious and classy! She respects vocal health while also experimenting away from her classical roots. There is a reason she has had such a loyal following for decades and I fully believe she'll be singing for a long while yet. A great role model for girls and women and all singers everywhere! Thanks for acknowledging her Supremacy cover.

Today Tarja is not Nightwish frontwoman as you know. She uses to live in Argentina, where she sometimes appears with friendly bands touring there (she went with a group of other Finish opera singers long time ago and got in love with the country, so she speaks Spanish with proficiency (yes here as well she has a proficiency), with Argentinian accent... I'm trying to find some of them with Rata Blanca (Argentina) or Mago de Oz (Spain) with some quality, but videos where uploaded by the public...

I've always said that Tarja Turunen is proof that angels exist. It's the only metaphor I can think of to explain how perfect she is. Whenever I feel stressed, or low, or its one of those days where I just cant muster the willpower to get out of bed, I just put one of her songs on and her voice just lifts me up. It fills me with an over whelming feeling that I could literally conquer the world. It's quite empowering. To quote a famous line from a famous movie or tv series I cant recall, "It's better than sex" I mean that literally. The endorphins released when I listen to Tarja are far more powerful than any I've got from sex. And I should stop there before I get lost in my admiration of her.

It's interesting that you think this sounds like a James Bond theme - before Skyfall was made, Muse were asked to produce a song that would potentially be a James Bond theme, and the song they made was Supremacy. As it happens they went with Adele and Skyfall, but for me, Supremacy is a far better composition.

@@TheMiataDriver I can understand, though to me, it's part of the charm of Muse :p That is actually one of the reason I prefer "old Muse" songs : since The Resistance the breathing has been edited and is mostly gone. It feels less.... raw.

Hi Rebecca, have you heard Tarja and Marko doing "The Siren" live. I'd recommend looking up the "End of an Era" DVD version because she adds a little something special that isn't in the studio album version.

Epica - Chasing the Dragon live at Retrospect! It's a beautiful song with a beautiful vocal.
And awesome reaction. Tarja's chest voice is so much more powerful nowadays than it was when she was in Nightwish. She sounds so good
She has such a unique timbre, when she gets her passagios right her chest voice its soo good. Must be quite a challenge to bypass years of academic classical head voice vocal training to go for that direct loud chest singing, either way you always know when its Tarja singing just listening by ear!
And Plague Flowers the Keleidoscop by Ne Obliviscaris would blow your mind. Such musical art! The song was actually studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

id love to see you react to Muse themselves! Many have already said it, but Matt Bellamy is a wonderful singer. Id suggest maybe the original Supremacy, Showbiz, and/or Knights Of Cydonia! Or for a (somewhat) more mellow tone of theirs, maybe Butterflies & Hurricanes or Sing For Absolution? Others have some nice suggestions too, i just figured I'd slide my own too!
