    "it's so melodic." ... that's one of the reasons why some people are not really into metal band, but ended up listening to symphonic metal and liking it because of the balance between the melody of rock, the complexity of classical music and dark edge of gothic metal.

      I don't think they two still like each other so well as they did. Well, Floor said some months ago that her relation with Simone was just "professional", nothing beyond that. They even unfollowed each other in instagram for a time. I don't know what happened between them but I don't think they are as friendly with each other as they were when Retrospect was recorded. DEFINITELY, her emotion in that one makes me cry each time I watch it.
      ... and I hear tale that that was one of the first times in a long time that Tuomas had his in ear monitors on during the song, (which explains why Marco and Emppu gathered around him toward the end and Floor's vocal crack during "the ever free, tuck me in beneath the blue" ) , since apparently it's a very hard one for him to hear the vocals of since it's quite literally his way of committing suicide.

      @chrisbennett6236 6 років тому +3

      Unfortunately Lucas it's not just Floor they try to tear down. It's all female European vocalists that front rock or metal bands. And it's mostly Americans that do the hating. Alot of men here have it in there shallow heads that women can't be good rock/metal vocalists. But most of them wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the bum.
      In Sharon Den Adel took a lot of heat from these idiots 2 years ago when their Hydra album hit the US charts. It nearly broke up the band. But those of us that love Within Temptation and bands like them started sending Sharon and Robert mail/email telling them to ignore the turds, that we think they are amazing.

    Nice reaction video. Maybe you could also take a look at Simone Simons with an accoustic solo permance The song i would like you to take a look at is called "Feint". This clip is a showcase of her vocal abilities. During this song she was only supported by a piano, a base and 2 person female choir. One of the women (the blond one) in the choir was her vocal coach at her school. On several occasions you can see Simone making eye contact and the smile at the end of the song from the coach is the proud smile of a teacher. Simone was about 18 when this was recorded and she had just completed her vocal training. The band also had just released their debut album. The song itself is about a politcal assasination of a Dutch politician that had a real good shot at becomming our next PM at the time. He practically came out of nowhere and was not tied to any of the traditional parties.
    LOL at the Apologies.com comment.

    This is what you get when you have 2 of Symphonic Metal's Marquee voices backed up by the heaviest of the Symphonic Metal bands in a live setting with live orchestra and choir, THE best live concert experience ever.

    Aw yiiiis! This performance was my introduction to Epica. I know I'm kinda late in the game when it comes to fangirling on these symphonic/classic metal but I think this is the best genre of music ever. ❤️❤️❤️
    Btw, Rebecca, I love it when you hum along with the songs you're reacting to. It's beautiful.❤️

    Now you know two of the absolute goddesses of metal, it's time for number three. PLEASE do something by tarja. If you want floor in again, there's a version of 'over the hills and far away' that they perform together, but I really would suggest phantom of the opera live at end of an Era. It's one of the best and most beautiful while still by far the heaviest versions of this song I've ever heard...... So yeah. If you think floors and Simone's operatic vocals are good, tarja steps it up one level more (at least in my opinion, don't want to start a fight here)

    • @nimedhel09
      @nimedhel09 6 років тому +10

      You are right, Tarja has the best operatic technique, but it's also because she mostly uses that style and has studied it for a long while, whilst Simone and Floor did not (I know Floor said she studied belcanto for a year, and I'm not sure for Simone, but I think it's also around that time frame).
      All three of them are amazing in their own right, and have influenced symphonic metal quite heavily.

    • @saga1363
      @saga1363 6 років тому +5

      Regarding operatic voice in metal, I find Dianne van Giersbergen (ex Xandria) better (imho).

    • @clairlestrange
      @clairlestrange 6 років тому

      @@saga1363 she's really damn good, I have to admit that, but I think tarjas still better....... But you can't argue about taste I guess

      Of course! Just saying.

    • @nimedhel09
      @nimedhel09 6 років тому

      @@saga1363 Well, both are really proficient, but they also have a different background too. While Tarja has studied lied singing, Dianne has studied belcanto, and while both are classical singing, they are still a bit different from each other.

    if you want to see what these two lovely ladies can do when they consentrate, check out
    Epica Stabat Mater Dolorosa feat Floor Jansen LIVE
    anyone that say metal singers cant sing should check closer, hear the slower, calmer songs, and you will find that most of them are trained, and really can sing, they just choose to scream or growl for the effect, to send out the message in the song. many are about unjust things in society, hard lifes, abuse of all forms, protest against wars, etc.

Simone Simons, Floor Jansen, Tarja Turunen, and Diane Van Giersbergen (who is also a vocal coach) make up some of the best in the genre as well.

    That was a GREAT analysis!! The way you explain how the techniques work is very clear. I've been singing at open mics for a couple of years (just started) and many of the things you talked about I found out by accident. I've noticed my voice SLOWLY becoming stronger(and higher) but I have also been told that it has more character too. Throat notes and palate notes are HARD to continue for more than a few songs without getting tired. I am old (56) but I'll keep working at it and experiment. I always record myself with my phone for immediate feed-back.
