Deep Purple are Rock royalty. This video documents the first time these 5 guys reunited to record an album after 11 years. They are hanging out and getting reacquainted. Has nothing to do with Women. The guitarist (Ritchie Blackmore) and bassist (Roger Glover) were in a band called Rainbow with Dio on vocals.
Longtime 70’s British band. They were broken up and got back together for this album around ‘84 and toured. I saw them on this tour and it’s still in my top 10 of shows ever.
Deep Purple. Only one of the biggest concert bands of the 70s, regularly outselling bands like Zeppelin & the Stones. Legendary. Every track on their album Machine Head is a must hear.
One of the greatest vocalists in rock & roll. Ian Gillan has long been one of my favorites. You should check him out singing the lead in “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Gethsemane in particular. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
This was from the 80's, but they really were a 70's band- a lot of good songs; smoke on the water, highway star, hush, child in time- they're worth a listen.
Who the hell suggests this song for a guy that has never heard of Deep Purple? Literally any song off of their album "Machine Head" would give him a great idea of who he is listening to.
Because he's almost certainly heard at least parts of Smoke on the Water, Highway Star and Child in Time even if he doesn't know the band already. In a movie or a commercial. Somewhere. Don't tell even tell me anyone would suggest any of the other songs on that album. Also this is a great song. Machine Head is my undisputed favorite album of all time though. From any artist. Every single song is amazing and very few bands ever release an album with ONLY bangers.
Saw this tour live, right up front. AMAZING. Deep Purple is one of the most skilled bands ever. Started in the 60s. Ritchie Blackmore is a guitar LEGEND. 🎸
Saw the same tour in Tacoma Wa. it's still regarded as the loudest concert ever at the Tacoma Dome, people across I-5 about an 1/8 mile away could not only hear the concert but could tell what song they were playing lol.
Good guess on Dio. The guitarist (Blackmore) in DP created another band names Rainbow who Dio sang for a time. This singer Ian Gillium sang for Black Sabbath as did Dio. You need to deep dive into these three bands. This song was about DP reuniting in the 80's after breaking up in the 70's.
They have been around since late 60's. They just released a new single from an upcoming new CD. By the way the singer is 78 and still sounds great. "Portable door" is the name of the new song.
SMOKE ON THE WATER is their most iconic song. The riff is probably the most recognizable riff in music. The song was created as the band was on the balcony of their hotel in Montreux, Switzerland. They were to play the Montreux Casino the following night. Frank Zappa was playing that night and someone with a flare gun set the place on fire. So they were watching it burn as the SMOKE CAME ACROSS THE WATER, hence the song.
Deep Purple -most iconic group ever! Don't miss the chance to listen really great music - Child in time, Highway star, strange kind of woman, smoke on the water, lazy, when the blind man cries - just few of songs you must know. The live versions always better then studio :)
This was done when they were a bit older. Good songs to listen to by them are Child in Time. Smoke on the Water. Space Truckin’. Those are rockin’ and showcase every band member and their music abilities.
Oh man, this is a rabbit hole worth going down. Deep purple (along with Sabbath and zep) are one of the three bands that invented what was known as Heavy Metal back in the late 60's. You have already experienced David coverdale the singer with Whitesnake. He became famous replacing Ian Gillan as singer in Deep Purple in 1973. Deep purple was created to have and as a result has had a rotating membership over the years however, the classic lineup known as mark 2 with ian gillan on vocals. This song is from the mark 2 line up when they reformed in 1984. You will recognise the song smoke on the water. Thats a riff i wouod expect to make your play list. Also check out the live version of child in time, speed king, fireball, strange kind of woman, black night, and highway star. From the mark 3 lineup with david coverdale, you should listen to burn. The original guitar player fir deep purple was Ritchie Blackmore. He then firmed the band Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio on vocals for the first few albums. You will love rainbow if you enjoy Dio. Finally, prior to joining deep purple, vocalist Ian Gillan was part of the original cast for the Broadway musical version of Jesus Christ Superstar. That is worth checking out. And after he left deep purple, he formed a solo band called Gillan (which featured guitar player Janic Gers, who is now with Iron Maiden). Check out the songs No Laughing in Heavan, New Orleans, and unchain your brain
Dio and Sabbath and Deep Purple and Rainbow are all intertwined over time. If you haven't already seen Child In Time, you should consider it. Live version. Very 70's.
The album was released in 1984, and was their 11th album. But its was also their first studio album in 9 years, and this line-up in the band hadn't played together in 11 years. It sounds quite different from their earlier stuff. I Highly recommend checking out "Highway star" and "Child in Time" LIVE. both live. live if you can with deep purple. They would sometimes just jam on stage for long stretches of time in their concerts, just making stuff up as they were playing. They were (and are, saw them 2 years ago:P) insanely talented.
This band is legendary in the world of Rock and has been known as one of the founders of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. In the mid-1970s there were 3 British bands accredited for the begining of the Hard Rock / Heavy Metal creation and movement. These bands were Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath otherwise known as "The Unholy Trinity". Deep Purple has a whole catalog of fantastic music. Check out "Child in Time" and "Highway Star". Thanks for another awesome reaction. I've listened to this music my whole life and I still learn things from your reactions. Keep up the good work brutha 😊👍
Saw this tour live in 1984. 2 minutes into the first song the power went out at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, and the band couldn't continue for over 1/2 hour. They were ALL pissed off, but still put on a hell of a great show!
Deep Purple is from 70s Europe and is the Rock Band that really started modern rock and heavy rock music. These music members of Deep Purple and the singer are some of the biggest talents that existed in the 70's and 80's. Almost all rock bands in the 80s and since the 80s had Deep Purple as idols and inspiration when making their own music. So yes, Deep Purple are world-renowned Rock legends.
This is Deep Purple Mk2 line up reunited after 10 later, so these guys are definitely more mature. Perfect Strangers reflect the band coming back together after all these years. You mentioned Dio which is tied to Deep Purple. Dio was in a band called Elf that opened for Deep Purple back in the early 1970's. Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist for Deep Purple) left his band and started a new band called Rainbow that featured Ronnie James Dio. Another fantastic band that catapulted Dio's career. Rainbow songs like "Stargazer", "Man on the Silver Mountain", and "Gates of Babylon" are great songs to check out.
The group broke up some time before this was recorded. They went different directions for a while. Then got back together and made this video. There was still some tension between them at the time and it can be seen at times here.
Ian Gillian the singer in this group went on to be in the group Black Sabbath he did one album with them & one video call (Zero the Hero) check it out you should love it
This is a reunion of the Deep Purple Mk II line-up. The song Hush that came out in the late 60s had a different singer. Most of their biggest hits are from this line-up that went separate ways in like 74. Then the Mk III line-up had David Coverdale (later founder of Whitesnake) on vocals w/Glenn Hughes (song Burn). Waaay to long a post to talk about Ronnie James Dio in Ranbow w/Richie Blackmore & Roger Glover of the MK II line-up in that band. This whole reunionn project was on pins & needles thus the disjointed video. Still a great album in 84. Bought it & loved it. Deep Purple & Rainbow...there's a rabbit hole to go down
IAN GILLAN was a singer for BLACK SABBATH as was DIO the album was BORN AGAIN and close to this era-RITCHIE BLACKMORE was in RAINBOW w/DIO post DEEP PURPLE
The guitarist in this band is Ritchie Blackmore when Deep Purple broke up he formed the band rainbow with Ronnie James Dio as its lead singer then Deep Purple reformed Ronnie James Dio went to Black Sabbath
This was a reunion of the classic lineup from the early 70's. Check out Burn live at the California Jam to check out the next lineup with David Coverdale, of Whitesnake fame, on vocals.
Deep Purple is one of the most influential early hard rock bands. Along with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, they defined hard rock in the late 60s and early 70s. Known for some of the most iconic riffs. This was a reunion. They got together after a decade and made an album, and had some fun. Should check out Highway Star....or if you want to say "wait...I have heard this", check out Smoke on the Water (perhaps the most famous guitar riff ever).
Just listen to Highway Star, Space Truckin’ and Smoke on the Water. If one of those don’t make your playlist then you can walk away from band. Perfect Strangers is a solid track but nothing to compare to their heyday.
Black Pegasus Deep Purple are one of the classic rock bands that came out at the same time with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. DP formed in mid 1960's in England. There were different lineup changes during DP's timeline with this lineup was most famous with late Jon Lord (keyboardist & Ian Paice (drummer) were constant members along with Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist). Final lineup was from 1974 to 1976 with new members, Glenn Hughes on bass and David Coverdale, singer. Then in 1984, this lineup shown here reunited for this album, Perfect Strangers. Ritchie stay with the band for number of years until he left for solo material. Both Ian Gillan, singer, Roger Glover, Bassist, and Ian Paice on drums continues today as Deep Purple with Don Airey on the keys and Simon McBride, who replaced Steve Morse on guitar. Steve replaced Ritchie
Deep Purple was huge. The operative word is was....Long time between 1968 and 1982. Ritchie Blackmore is the familiar sound that you are hearing. Blackmore was with Dio. And Rainbow. Time for Man on the Silver Mountain.
These boys were on top of the world in 72. Put out some of the biggest records and then fell apart went their separate ways. After a decade apart they reunited for this. Hence, perfect strangers. They knew each other so well yet had to get reaquainted. The video is just that. Them hanging out. Making a new album.
Wasn't into heavy metal when I was young, but I loved Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"(1972) and hearing the first few seconds of the song it's instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up in the 60's and 70's. 💜
BLACK PEGASUS. funny you should mention Dio. The guitarist Ritche Blackmore in this video left deep purple years ago..started his own band Rainbow Dio sang with Rainbow. Then had his own band "DIO" IAN GILLAN DEEP PURPLES VOCALIST AND DIO ARE MY 2 FAVOURITE SINGERS .CHILD IN TIME OR SMOKE ON THE WATER ARE CLASSIC DEEP PURPLE.JUST A WEE HEADS UP FOR YOU 🤘🤘🤘💖💜💜🌈
"Space Truckin'", "My Woman From Tokyo", "Smoke on the Water", "Highway Star" are just a drop in the bucket of Deep Purple's song list. One of my favorite bands!
There you go Black Pegasus ... age 61 .. me & my friends waited 10 long years for them to get back together. .. EPIC! ... DEEP PURPLE are Legends of Rock n Roll. ... You're watching 5 Great that broke up and got back together. .. LEGENDS! ... That's right .. that's the best Keyboard player ever .. great drummer, GREAT Guitar player .. they all were great
This band is part of the British invasion, they are also considered one of the bands that founded hard rock, like led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. They got a LOT of big hits too. That's a forgettable song, you want to be blown away: Smoke on the water. Space trucking. Child in time. Stormbringer. Highway star. Woman from Tokyo. All those will blow you out.
They have a new album coming out in July. Their last one "Whoosh" in 2020 was awesome. I first saw them in concert in December 1972 on the Machine Head tour with Fleetwood Mac, and Foghat opening for them.
Deep Purple through out the years, they were a bit older here, there are videos where they are younger...... Check out Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water - Child in Time
They are a legendary rockband who couldn't relate to the new fakery world of music videos and did not want to do any videos for their music so were lucky to dredge together some footage of them recording
Hey BP! Smoke on the Water!!! React to it, you think these riffs were hard, wait until you hear Smoke on the Water Riffs!!! Thanks for the great reaction.
They were a great band and flew around in a purple jet airplane. As with many of the great bands they were all amazing talents competing for the lights. As with all great minds there will be differences. I had the privilege of seeing them live and was in high school in the mid '70's. We saw all the big names that came to Oregon. Looking back, except for the war, it was a time of incredible artists and concerts.✌
You definitely need to do Child in Time, Lazy, highway star. These dudes are from London formed in 1967. They are excellent musicians. You need to do more of Deep Purple
remaining "Perfect Strangers" is a nod at them admitting they can't always get along if they get too familiar. "Familiarity breeds contempt" as Proverbs says. They were in the band together - had some major tension and split apart for irreconcilable differences. They agreed to "get the band back together", but admitted to themselves and each other they can pull it off so long as they don't get too familiar. There is some crossover with Dio and Deep Purple in some of the band members - so you hit that nail on the head. Also crossover to Whitesnake whom I know you reacted to. Holy Diver is good, but check out Dio's "Last In Line". Thats a fire banger!!!
Deep purple is rock royalty for sure. This song was some of their new stuff when I was in high school in the early 80’s I don’t know for sure but I think the video was a retreat to record an album.
Well it’s the band taping a song and having some fun in a bar with friends and band mates . Playing soccer and unwinding while they are recording this song read and understand the lyrics . 😂
Part of the holy trinity of rock..... Gotta do Smoke on the water, Burn , Highway Star , Child In Time live N Y. THIS is the end of the original line up era... GUITARIST Ritchie Blackmore wrote the greatest riff in rock . Smoke On The Water whi h is a true story..
When guitarist Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple after the 1974 LP Stormbringer he formed the band Rainbow with --- Ronnie James Dio on lead vocals. Purple would make one more LP without Blackmore before dissolving. Drummer Ian Paice, bassist Roger Glover,, and keyboardist Jon Lord then would all cycle thru the band Whitesnake over the years while former Purple vocalist Ian Gillan launched a band under his name for several LPs before making an album with and touring with Black Sabbath in 1983 after Dio had cut two LPs with THAT band. In fact that Gillan tour with Sabbath was immediately before the recording sessions you see in the video. It was very much a surprise reunion for fans as Blackmore had recorded a Rainbow LP (with Glover producing) the previous year, 1983. A simplified timeline would be Deep Purple > Rainbow > Whitesnake > Dio > Deep Purple reforms.
If you didn't normally hear of some bands it could be because not all the famous bands came from the States, check out the - UK - Australia - Canada - Germany - Sweden.......
They're reuniting after a decades - long career to record this album and enjoying themselves in the English countryside while they're doing it. Ian Gillan, the lead singer, played Christ on stage in Jesus Christ Superstar. He's amazing. You gotta hear Space Truckin from the early days. They are one ove the original hard rock/metal bands. 😊
You need to watch the Deep Purple video for the song mistreated. Watch the live California Jam version. It has David Coverdale which you have covered before, he became the lead singer for Whitesnake. He replaced the original singer which is Back singing on this album.
Deep purple. Child in time. Live version will blow you off your chair ❤❤❤❤❤❤
YES, from 1970!
YES, from 1970!
Yeah child in time live is a must!
up

The holy Trinity of Rock
🔥🔥🔥
You got there first I was just about to post that
Those are the Godfathers of hard rock/heavy metal
UNholy trinity of Heavy Metal.
forgot Pink Floyd
@@kurtschmidt9760 Trinity means 3. Pink Floyd was more prog than heavy.

Smoke On The Water is their most iconic song but they have plenty of iconic songs
if he havent heard of smoke on the water ... I am stunned
Deep Purple definitely one of the greatest rock bands of All time
CHILD IN TIME, CHILD IN TIME , CHILD IN TIME, Everyone clammers for it. And for good reason.
Longtime 70’s British band. They were broken up and got back together for this album around ‘84 and toured. I saw them on this tour and it’s still in my top 10 of shows ever.
Dio played with the the guitar player in Deep Purple. The band was called Rainbow.
To me this is THE rock song of 1980s. Absolute masterpiece - as a composition, arrangement, performance and sound engineering of the album.
I totally agree!
Never heard about Deep Purple ? Man, you've been living under a rock.
Deep Purple. Only one of the biggest concert bands of the 70s, regularly outselling bands like Zeppelin & the Stones. Legendary. Every track on their album Machine Head is a must hear.
Deep Purple...... Smoke On The Water 🔥 The "hook" is sooooo iconic.
One of the greatest vocalists in rock & roll. Ian Gillan has long been one of my favorites. You should check him out singing the lead in “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Gethsemane in particular. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸

I like this song but... man, my thoughts exactly! They've written history with their earlier material.
Because he's almost certainly heard at least parts of Smoke on the Water, Highway Star and Child in Time even if he doesn't know the band already. In a movie or a commercial. Somewhere. Don't tell even tell me anyone would suggest any of the other songs on that album.

“Smoke on the Water” a must! Thanks for giving them a listen!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻

Best song ever!!
Funny you mention dio! He was in a band called rainbow, which had deep purple members in it!
Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow is the band you are talking about!
Good guess on Dio. The guitarist (Blackmore) in DP created another band names Rainbow who Dio sang for a time. This singer Ian Gillium sang for Black Sabbath as did Dio. You need to deep dive into these three bands.

Deep Purple "Highway Star"
This is my favorite DP song. You just Tripped over one of the formative bands of Heavy Metal. They have a deep cataloged of music.

Lazy is another great tune
Black Pegasus
Deep Purple are one of the classic rock bands that came out at the same time with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. DP formed in mid 1960's in England. There were different lineup changes during DP's timeline with this lineup was most famous with late Jon Lord (keyboardist & Ian Paice (drummer) were constant members along with Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist). Deep Purple was huge. The operative word is was....Long time between 1968 and 1982. Ritchie Blackmore is the familiar sound that you are hearing. Blackmore was with Dio. And Rainbow. Time for Man on the Silver Mountain.
The Deep Purple/ Dio connection is Richie Blackmore. After Purple came Rainbow. Dio on vocals. Listen to Man on the silver mountain. Stay Honest. 😁
Well it reminds you of dio possibly because the leas guitarist from Deep purple formed the band Rainbow with Dio. Ritchie Blackmore is among the best.
These boys were on top of the world in 72. Put out some of the biggest records and then fell apart went their separate ways. After a decade apart they reunited for this. Hence, perfect strangers. All those will blow you out.
Hush is one of my favourite songs by Deep Purple
Dio did sing with Ritchie Blackmore with rainbow
One of my favorite guitarists...Ritchie Blackmore 🥰
Perfect Strangers tour I believe was the first time I saw them, this was after they'd broken up and got back together. God what a great show.
Ian Gillan(Singer) also did an album with Black Sabbath in 1983 - Born Again
Only one of the biggest groups of the 70’s and 80’s!
Their most played and recognized song ever- Smoke on the Water.
You should hear this song with an orchestra behind it. I love this video where you see Richie Blackmore actually smile. He is a monster guitarist.
The song you really want to hear off this record is called "Knocking at your back door". Trust me its SOOO YOU!!!
Yea Bro... bad ass
You definitely need to do Child in Time, Lazy, highway star. These dudes are from London formed in 1967. They are excellent musicians. You need to do more of Deep Purple
Ohhhhh my gawdddd I haven't heard this in at least 2 decades!!! ❤❤❤
My favourite songs 🎵 from this English rock band are 'Smoke on the water ' 'Highway star ' and' Black night '
remaining "Perfect Strangers" is a nod at them admitting they can't always get along if they get too familiar.
Great reaction. . Deep purple. .."Smoke on the water"💐💐💐💐💐
Started listening to them back in the early 1970's when I was in High school, I think this song is from the 80's
Same ❤
1984
Deep purple is rock royalty for sure. This song was some of their new stuff when I was in high school in the early 80’s I don’t know for sure but I think the video was a retreat to record an album.
Ian Gillian..Lead Singer♥
"When a Blind Man Cries"
ANd also, of course, a vote for "Child in Time" 1970 Live
Smoke On The Water.... Classic Deep Purple. Rocked this song til I blew my speakers. Replaced them & rocked it again.
And check out the LIVE version, on their page, not the "official music video." Live is playlist eligible.
Space truckin full version by deep purple
Try Highway Star.
Ian Gillian (singer) was a mentor/influence for a young Bruce Dickinson.
Well it’s the band taping a song and having some fun in a bar with friends and band mates . Playing soccer and unwinding while they are recording this song read and understand the lyrics . 😂
"Smoke On the water!"
Highway Star is the ultimate Deep Purple song. Early 70's super group. The album Machine Head is a classic from start to finish.
legends! this was their😍 comeback album in the mid 80's
Smoke on the Water - ICONIC ROCK Definitely one to react to!
If you didn't normally hear of some bands it could be because not all the famous bands came from the States, check out the - UK - Australia - Canada - Germany - Sweden.......
Smoke On The Water. Iconic song and riff.
