“Your tears are lost in falling rain.” May (or may not) be inspired by a line of Rutger Hauer’s character’s speech in the movie Blade Runner that came out a couple years earlier. My bet is it was, as it’s pretty similar. This album came out in 1984, and the movie in 1982.
Nice reaction. I love Deep Purple as I seen them here in the past many times and during that LP "Perfect Strangers" tour in the mid 80's. Perfect choice. Thanks for all you do.
Awesome reaction..check out - a twist in the tail from this same show.. come hell or high water. From 1993..a very tumultuous time for the band. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore would leave mid tour because him and Singer Ian gillan couldn’t stand each other, and was replaced by Joe Satriani to finish the tour.
The Perfect Strangers album was the first album Deep Purple recorded when they reunited the most successful lineup of the band referred to as MK II. This is the lineup that produces Smoke on the Water, Child in Time, Highway Star etc. but had not been together a decade. I love the music video as it showed all the members arriving to what was probably a home studio for rehearsals or recording (I don't now the actual facts). But it was five friends that went through a lot together and had their ups and downs but were reuniting, though the reunion didn't last long but did produce three albums. I still remember the anticipation I had around the reunion and the video as MTV used to have exclusive rights to many videos and they would have World Premiere videos they'd promote and I remember the first time seeing the video World Premiere.
Inna Ritchie Blackmore, guitarist and founder of Deep Purple also founded Rainbow plus his personal project with his wife, Candice Night, Blackmore's Night. After this tour and new albums, Blackmore left his band that he founded in 1994. Blackmore reformed Rainbow. Original keyboardist, Jon Lord, (shown here), sadly passed away in 2012 at the age of 71. His replacement is another great keyboardist, Don Airey. Don has played keys for other great bands such as Ozzy Osburne and Black Sabbath.
@@davidbewick9208 Yes! Satriani plays the shows in Japan...I got 2 cds. The first show of the new Mark (with Steve Morse was on México City...the second here in my city, Monterrey, México, November 25 1994. The Battle Rages On Tour :)
Just love your reaction and chair dancing Inna! Fallowed Deep Purple from there beginning. Had all there albums .They sold over one hundred million albums. This is my favourite DP album with tracks like Knocking at your Back Door, Gypsies Kiss, Under The Gun and Not Responsible great album and great reaction
This song is part of the same name album released in 1984 and which marks the return of the band after nine years without LPs (since 75). It's undoubtedly a great rock classic, I particularly love the Hammond keyboard🎹🎹 sound used in this song, and it's very nice to be able to watch your react, Inna.🤩
The lyric and the end about tasting poison is a reference back to Jesus Christ Superstar and the Gethsemane track. Gillan recorded that album in one afternoon and in just about one take. Gethsemane is well worth a listen.
This concert in 1993 was not guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's best performance... In fact, he was not playing optimally. This was Deep Purple's 25th anniversary tour and being filmed for a live video, and Blackmore was upset w/ one of the cameramen who was filming onstage... The band opened w/ 'Highway star' and Blackmore refused to come out... So, there were no guitars for half the song before Blackmore finally stepped on stage and even then, he was still upset and threw water on the cameraman while the song was going... Jon Lord (keyboards) said in the interview that he had to work hard that night to get Ritchie Blackmore to engage w/ the band as the concert went on... Ian Paice (drums) remarked that if Blackmore had a problem going on stage, the band had a problem... He lamented that if the band was not performing well, the people who lose were the fans... the audience... who paid money and showed support for Deep Purple. In 1993, Ritchie Blackmore was not enthusiastic about working w/ Ian Gillan (vocals) again, but agreed to do it for Deep Purple's 25th anniversary...He ended up not liking the album 'The Battle rages on'... In late '93, Ritchie Blackmore announced that he was leaving the band... Deep Purple did some shows w/ guitar hero Joe Satriani... and then they hired Steve Morse (guitar) who completed the 1994 tour and did the next album 'Purpendicular'... joining full-time until 2022. Years later, Ian Gillan (vocals) recalled that Deep Purple was not doing well w/ guitarist Ritchie Blackmore on tour and the band would have broken up if he hadn't quit... After guitarist Steve Morse joined the band, the live performances got better... Deep Purple was working as a solid unit once more... and touring became an enjoyable experience for the first time in years. And soon, the audiences grew large again and there was life for Deep Purple again. Gillan compared the split w/ Blackmore to a divorce... It was the right thing to do so that Deep Purple could move forward and Ritchie Blackmore was free to pursue the music he wanted to play.
You can really see Ritchie pissed off.🤣🤣🤣 But this not as spectacular as California Jam 1974, when he attacked the camera with his guitar, smashed it and blew up his amps afterwards.
I was at this concert and it was very disappointing on the night. I honestly thought the band was about to break up - which it did of course. Fortunately they found Satriani and then Morse.
@@NigelBond66 Deep Purple did not break up... Ritchie Blackmore left in '93... the band opted to carry on w/ 1994 tour dates hiring Joe Satriani... and then hired Steve Morse to do the rest of the tour before working on the next album 'Purpendicular'.
Nice reaction, and a brilliant song. Interesting that you suggest they're having the time of their life: this gig is infamous for guitarist Ritchie Blackmore having a hissy fit at the start of the gig and essentially sulking for the rest of it - he was a bit prone to it! The rest of the band were doing their best to try and inject some good feeling into proceedings. I was there, and they've done many, many better gigs.
The last line "I don't want to taste your poison" was a reference to when Ian Gillan sang the first version of Gethsemene in Jesus Christ Superstar. ua-cam.com/video/gOjyGy1NR4Y/v-deo.html
This is a great performance of one of my favorite songs. Unfortunately, Ian flubbed one lyric at 4:30 (my favorite in the song). In this performance, he sings "inside this silent well of sorrow", when the actual lyric is "I know I must remain inside this silent well of sorrow". A tiny thing, but one that always makes me a little sad. Now, if you want to delve deeper into Deep Purple, try Speed King, but choose the version from their Perihelion tour (Miami concert) - it's a bit later in their career, after Blackmore left the band, and Steve Morse took over guitar duties. If you want to see a band having fun, that's the video!

I really sympathise with Ritchie Blackmore. Ian Gillan has a great voice, but half the time he’s either too drunk or too stupid to remember his own lyrics.
Not the best live version by them. No one onstage enjoyed that night due to Blackmore's behaviour. I was there and the band did their best but weren't firing on all cylinders.
