For a while me and my friends played BC1 and BC2 exclusively even more than COD 2 and Halo 3 it was that freaking good I genuinely loved BC2 I still think its the peak of online Battlefield
It's not a perfect game, but its peaks very much cancel out the handful of gripes I have. I think BF3 is a better game overall but I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer BC2.
Man, it's like a demonstration of "remember when games were fun?" Also, it's pretty rough it never got ported to PC. The graphics could have been made much more livable. High school me with no Xbox live thought this game with its 20-30 FPS campaign was the best evar.
I love Bad Company 1. Bought it on release and played the hell out of it both single player and online. The only downside is the bad FOV. I always found the realistic gun firing sounds super cool, and how the firing sounds would change if you were inside or outside, aswell as the destructible environment. Those features were insanely novel in 2008. Another thing I enjoyed is the sniper classes ghillie suits would actually help blend you into the foliage when playing multi-player, unlike say COD4 where you still stuck out. I remember hiding inside little shrubs on the sides of roads and airstriking enemy tanks as they drove past me 😂 they had no idea where I was lol
Dont forgot also how your hearing would distort and blow out when a tank shell landed near you, or if you were standing too close to a tank firing its cannon or a grenade haha. Such awesome and immersive sound design, wish new games were as good
@@machina_spirit yesssss I love that, also your microphone blowing out and making loud beepy scratchy noises from the explosion. And the realistic sounds of despair soldiers would make when injured or fired at, plus there was a good amount of swearing in the game. Pretty sure it's the only T rated game I've ever played where people would say "shit" on a regular basis. Also what's interesting is battlefield managed to pull off these realistic gun sounds over a decade before COD did. CoD only started implementing realistic firing sounds when modern warfare 2019 came out, this game pulled that off in 2008
Brooooo the BC1 sniper being able to call in JDAM was so cheap. You could steer the bomb away from vehicles and drop it on unsuspecting people in buildings. They’re like wtf. Also you could RPG the gold crates from across the map until they were destroyed. Rarely lost a Rush match, great times.
This game without a doubt has the best Battlefield campaign ever. The level of freedom, destruction, diversity and personality it has is so great that none of the future entries have measured up in my opinion.
Flying the Apache in BC1 (2008) was super fun with a friend as gunner. We’d call out targets, dodge RPGs, and land in remote places to repair. I’ll never forget one Rush match on End of the Line. Attackers had 2 apaches and then we stole the defenders’ Hind from the port, so 3 helicopters raining destruction for next 15 mins. Best memories.
Realistically, most regular troops only have a main arm and not a side arm. Snipers would require a sidearm because their primary weapon is a long range engagement type weapon. So it mostly makes sense.

BFBC1 was my first online Battlefield experience, I remember how much that games multiplayer blew me away. The destruction, the graphics, the sounds, the immersion, it was unmatched by anything else at that time. Those days of online gaming were so beautiful.
I remember this game blew my mind when I played it because of the fully destructible environments lol Also if you want a voice command game for the PS3 look at Tom Clancy's Endwar. You used a headset and gave voice commands in an RTS
This game was the debut of the Frostbite Engine, and honestly the absolute peak of it in my opinion. Each level was like its own mini sandbox, so you could just run around the entire map blowing literally everything up that you wanted. The only other game with destruction capabilities similar to this one that I can think of is Red Faction Guerilla.
I run the Chibi-Robo! Wiki and was so surprised by the mention of the little robot in this video haha. Been binging your videos the past few days and really enjoying your content.
This brought back some good nostalgia. Glad you shouted out the excellent sound design, damn i miss how punchy the guns and explosions were in the Bad Company games
Used to play this, my first introduction to BF. Best SP for a BF title the rest became way too linear and interrupted what BF is all about. Disliked how BC2 went more serious and chased the COD trend more. The trailers for this game were great with a Gears of War parody and MGS4 as well. BC2 had a MW2 parody trailer.
That's what I love about this first Bad Company game. It was its own unique experience with mechanics and features that helped it to really stand out. Bad Company 2 just felt like a Call Of Duty clone and everything just devolved from there. Frontlines Fuel Of War from Kaos Studios and THQ was more like the first Bad Company than Bad Company 2 actually was.
BFBC2 was my favorite game for months on Xbox. Fantastic gunplay, destruction, and vehicles. I was really looking forward to Battlefield 2042 just to go on the Portal mode and play BFBC2, and we all know how that turned out If you had the G3 with an acog it has no bullet drop and was basically a better sniper rifle. Only BF game that I unlocked everything, until BF3 like 3 years later maybe?
You guys need to realize, the companies we grew up with aren't the same companies today. Jagex isn't Jagex from 2005, Dice isn't Dice from 2008, Ubisoft hasn't been Ubisoft since about 20 years now. The employees that were paid to make the games we played, are gone into fucking retirement by now. It's not the people in the companies that changed, it's the gaming business model that's changed. I freakin' loved this game when it came out. Frame rates and sepia tones meant nothing to me then. I think I had every achievement for the PS3 version except the one where you were supposed to get 10,002 kills online, because that was stupid and I ended up simply refusing.

Still one of my favourite games. I remember buying this game the day after Christmas and how hyped I was to play it. It is a shame you can't get it on Steam.
I actually thought that helped to give the game its own unique foundation when combined with the automatically regenerating health syringe system. You could immediately restore your health from almost empty to completely full, and then you'd just have to wait for a brief cooldown period to use it again. It made the entire experience challenging, but completely fair. BFBC2 just felt like a complete Call Of Duty ripoff, whereas this first game was definitely its own unique experience.
