      The Diamond Bass Compressor, if you haven't already, it's my go to compressor and won't leave my board any time soon. Also the Red Witch Factotum, the Southampton Ictineo, the Tech 21 Oxford and the Mesa Throttle Box.

      Patrick Hunter If you haven't tried the ever useful Keely's "Bassist Limiting Amplifier." It's described as VCA compression engineered by the same guys that designed the old studio based DBX compressors. Using THAT Corp. 4320 design made for the practical use of a stomp box. Has all the make up gain one could need @ 30db's. Complete squash, or transparent leveling this Keeley does it all with ease.
      The Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor sounds great too, but with more versatility.

    I think I am about sold on this one as my first stand alone comp pedal. Was strongly considering splurging on a cali76 but I feel like this can get close to that and also offer several other great sounds. Plus Amos Williams from Tesseract uses these and I LOVE his tone! Cheers!

    Using it as a clean boost pedal, with blend at 0 and output at maximum, how many db's should I get to make my passive bass hotter?

    Thanks for sharing! If you could only afford 1 compressor for virtually any genre, would you go with the Darkglass or Drybell67?

  • @Progbassist
    @Progbassist 5 років тому

    Is it possible to program the pedal so you can change the ratio or mode from the footswitch? I mean it could just be useful if you change from distorted to clean and want more compression on the clean sound.

    Nice! Awesome sounding pedal. Buut, why would I get this over the Cali76 Bass Comp. Sure you can get very similar results with the HL using the FET mode, both have the very key blend feature. But, the Cali has the High Pass Filter Control, and this control is very very key to how musical the Cali sounds, especially when you have a B string or lower.
    The only thing that would persuade me to get this is what control you have in the DarkGlass Suite.

    I bought a Valeton Dapper Bass “strip” that I really like. It’s a knockoff of Tech 21’s Bass Fly Rig. I get many compliments on how I sit in the mix with that thing. The sound guy likes it. I use it with the amp section & compressor/boost section on all the time. Anyways, makes my setup & take down time next to nothing.

    I really can't here a difference woth buying a compressor when you turn the nobs that the end of the video.
    I have a EBS Multicomp, and I though there was not enough settings, so I bought a MXR287, toyed a lot with, but I just don't bother putting it on anymore.
    I always feel I prefer the unaltered sound in the end.
    I don't know if I will ever get it.

    • @raven_glass
      @raven_glass 4 роки тому

      IMO you're not really going to ever be impressed out of a comp soloed like this. Where it shines is in the live mix so you don't suddenly drop out or overbear parts because the comp is keeping your levels consistent. I personally find if I'm in a simply jammy part I play much harder than in an intricate technical portion and the comp will make sure all of it stays relatively in the same gain range so the bass guitar keeps it's presence in the mix.

    The demo was good. So.. Not to take away from the effort, I didn't get a lot of information or new information from this I didn't from the other reviews. The demo covered the similar marketing talking points or as advertised overview, but then just a lot "knob turning" with no explanations.. For instance, no real settings shown to expound upon which frequencies are being effected, how their effected on each mode, or anything adept in demoing a compressor. Nor did it show any DarkGlass Suite interaction showcased and etc. Hmmm

    is the compression nob like the threshold control?

    • @youngp1nk
      @youngp1nk 5 років тому +1

      I emailed a few questions to Darkglass and this was part of the response
      "The ratios are:
      Bus Mode: 1.5, 2, 4, 10
      Symmetry mode: the range of the original Symmetry's compression control
      FET mode: 4, 8, 12, 20 and 'all in' mod
      The default time knob behavior is fast attack & slow release -> slow attack & fast release, but this can be tailored and customized via the DG suite.
      The compression knob affects both the limiting threshold of compression, and the make up gain at the same time, it is not a boost."
      Hope that helps.

      @@haxenheimer9707 I saw that
      But I think he could make more on off demonstrations. mainly because he is using a distorted signal, and we don't know what is EQ, drive, or the compressor effect.

      I used feel the same way when Iisten to compressor demos. I was focused on listening to the reduction of spikes of volume as he increased the compression and the ratio. What I learned was to listen for the effect it has on the quieter, lighter parts. Like when he alternates between harmonics and different intensities of plucking. The compressor’s basic mission is to make the loud and quiet parts more even. The Darkglass does such a versatile job varying where in the frequency spectrum and dynamic range it operates depending on time and compression settings. Overall, I prefer the natural fullness of the SYM compressor mode.

    Lots of unnecessary movement in the left hand. The right hand is also using an uncontrolled touch force. Bad technique can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome.
