Came here just to watch Rabea play a strat with compression.
"I think I need a compressor. Maybe something cheap and simple"
*watches video*
*now owns Hyper Luminal*
It's worth it.
I purchased this pedal about two weeks ago after watching this demo and I have to agree. This compressor is Killer! I've owned not a few and this is the best guitar compressor I have ever owned. Super flexible and it sounds so sweet. The Urei 117 and SSL Buss modes are awesome.
Thanks for convincing me Rabea!
This is amazing. been chasing and wanting a blues breaker sound this year and this is what I have been missing! Thanks for sharing this!!
Man Rabea! Your sound in this video is outstandingly epic!
Thanks for the video. I've been using the Hyper Luminal on my guitar pedal board for a month and did not know about guitar mode.
Not only is that a beautiful sounding compressor, it looks sick as hell!
I was one of those that spent little money on compressor pedals, until this pedal and I was sold. Good stuff!
I was already looking at this pedal for use with my bass but never realised that it had an optional guitar setting. That's definitely sold it to me. Very nice review and love your playing!
That part where you get "lost in your own world" is my jam! I've been playing that riff for ever. It's got such an amazing energy to it, kind of like Kashmir.
It's sounds like he's playing part of Jeff buckley -dream brother.
Thanks for this, man! That is one kickass compressor. It seems so versatile, though I also prefer the Symmetry compression. I love how it gets crunchy when turned up but not nasty like a bag of needles. (Hey, it happens!) There's something very pretty, liquidinous, and chocolatey about how it sounds, even relatively maxxed out.
Starting at 19:43, some of my favorite chords to play. They add such a vibe, you don't hear many people use them.
Truly, it is the best guitar compressor I have tried, as well.
Each of the 3 modes sound and do the job amazingly.
You convinced me. i have one of these on the way to me now!!!!
Those pushed cleans from the symmetry mode are gorgeous though.
like it and great playing! have the luminal compressor for my bass. the sound ist very clean, warm or dry. together with my alpha omega i have a killer bass sound. will not miss the pedals on my board.
Sounds really good!
Great sounding Compressor, I want one haha!! Rabea could you do a video showing us how to do those awesome chromatic runs you do!! :)
Dark Glass is fine art !!
Great video, Thank you.
Awesome. Now My G.A.S. has gone wonkers and I must obtain this device along with the pedal Dave was demoing . Youre the Man. Bring Toska to America
Sounds stellar! Have you guys tried the RT ElecTRonix Multiband Comps? - There's the 3 band and 5 band versions - both really fabulous! Really dig the video from the standpoint of musicality - just nice to sit back and groove with it! Well done mate!!
Oooooh my god the sound in the beginning is freaking amazing! Is that you playing Rabea?
Yes, it's a jam with Dave and Ben. The video is in this channel
That t-shirt is amazing.
I've been looking at different compressors for quite a while and now bought a cheap Hyper Luminal on the used market to swap my old Philosopher's Tone and it's really amazing, i never liked a compressor so much, well done Darkglass!
I am really trying to decide between this and the Atlas. very cool product and sounds killer
Rabea's looking jacked!
Nice t-shirt, man! :)
Great playing and pedal :) Peace
Great. Just great. Now I want a $250 compressor. Would have been fine with at much cheaper one just 21 minutes and 45 seconds ago. Thanks, Rabea!
It’s like a toy compared to a Cali 76 tx.
@@MisterRorschach90 Not really dude, their just different. I sold my Cali and kept the Luminal.
I knew this was what I wanted before I came here. (Bass) watching this just cemented that
Compressor pedals are a mystery to me🥺. I love dynamic playing. Great tones and lesson.
damn that thing sounds amazing. no wonder so many pros are using this thing at all times now.
Compressors are are a sound enhancer for clean and also tightens up a flubby amp
best single coil crunch tone i recon ive heard
Hey man, love the video! Do you record both outputs out of the Torpedo Studio (I.E simulating 2 different cabs at the same time) or do you only use 1 cab at a time when recording music??
sounds good
Dude! Could you take us through your setup for recording using IRs/your torpedo? I have great amps, great guitars and a torpedo studio but no matter the settings and no matter the IR/cab sim i use it doesn't even get close to sounding as great as you do here! Do you do any EQ etc?
I would like to see you compare the new Victory pre-amp pedals and their actual amp equivalent. Mainly the Kraken but the entire line would be a good video. Can you tell the difference between the new preamp pedal and the actual amp?
Hey Rabea! Question, where can i get this amazing tshirt !?
Hey Rabea! Question; a while back you did a stoner rig video. Any chance we'd ever get a 'revisit' video on that? Cheers!
I'm curious as to what uoubare using for delay and how you have it set. Such an amazing sound with the compression and delay mixed.
Awsome pedal, especially for the price. It's like three pedals for the price of one
So, where do we get the cool Kraken schwag?
Rabea is usually pretty enthusiastic about the stuff he reviews, but the best recommendation for this pedal is that he actually uses it on his own pedalboard (at least the one he made with Dan from That Pedal Show).
Hmmm, I’ve been using it without the new guitar tweak for over a year,
I’d be afraid to update, I love what it does, totally changed my technique
for the better. Blend @10, time@12
Sustain@max gain@12:30. BUS@4 to 1. For soloing, lead and melody lines like Satriani. Soo clean, a little color from the gain control is perfect .....tiny extra bite to the tone
It's not a permanent change, you can switch back and forth between bass and guitar mode in the editor.
@@JessieThorne886 oh, that’s cool, it seemed like it was more like a permanent software update....which it is, but doesn’t negate the original settings availability!🙂. I’ve been wanting to try tweaking the software, I’d like the attack to be quicker than the tail. At the moment the single time control is at noon. With attack and
sustain being roughly equal, feedback blooms too slow, kinda cool anyway however, because it comes right to the edge of feedback, where all the harmonics bloom, but doesn’t spill over into squeals you’d have to mute. I had a boss compressor before this, nice but dirty, distorted, adds too much color, dulls the guitar tone. Not this one! Very transparent. Well worth the extra dough.
Hey Rabea, I'm trying to choose a first compressor and I'm torn between this and the Walrus Audio Deep Six. Any advice?
Where can i get that shirt?? Its soooo coool!!!
i want that t shirt man
i was hoping to see how this compressor works with other gain pedals. rabea are u having noise/hiss from this compressor with other dirt pedals?
Nice!
Did you keep the Attack/Release on “Inverse” operation in the Darkglass Suite?
Nice one. Im looking for a compressor at the mo. But its that time of year when my acoustic comes out.
Im presuming this will work for that just as well?.
Yeah man, that’s the thing about it, because there’s so many options in the pedal, it’ll handle most things
At 9:40. You had it nailed right there. Wish you would have carried that cord progression out.
When you set up the pedal for "guitar" mode through the plugin, do those settings save after a power cycle? Or would you have to set it to guitar each time?
I have owned this pedal for quite a while and love everything about it. But i myself play bass more then guitar but knowing this can be used with a guitar to great effect is awesome.
with this comment being a couple years old, I was curious if you still had it and what thoughts you still might have on it? Also, could you tell me how noisy it is?
@@Michael_Is_Avg still have it it's great and quite mine is a launch one and with firmware update can be switched in the darkglass suite to work for guitar. No noise added as long as you provide it with clean power which I do with my furman merritt dlx 8
@@Jihadbearzwithgunz Thank you so much for the reply! I definitely plan on using it more for guitar, so glad to know the firmware is really suited to handle it as well as whatever mediocre bass I might try to play haha! Glad it's quiet and I have a spare slot with it's name on it.
I recently bought the Keeley Compressor Plus, and while it's okay, it's not my favorite and I have a few shortcomings with it. Thinking I might see if I can swap this out at Sweetwater for the Luminal!
Thanks again for the reply! Glad to hear it's quiet and that it's still loved.
@@Michael_Is_Avg anytime good luck just know there are ways to work around the time knob for attack and release I have it mirrored on mine for a fast attack and slow release. You can also set it for a set attack or release value in the suite and have the knob only effect attack or release. Find myself using the FET and Sym modes the most on bass tbh
@@Jihadbearzwithgunz Thanks for the great tip! That's wonderful to know on the attack/release times. I just placed an order for it this evening, so I'm pretty excited to give it a whirl here shortly!
Anyone else look at how the wave forms change behind him in the daw on the diff compressor settings.
b is gonna be a blues master
Is there anyway you can switch it to guitar without the computer editor? I’m in the process of combining my guitar and bass pedalboard into one motherboard, and really would like to use this for my guitar and bass
A hardware switch would be absolutely amazing for that. I play 8 string guitar now so being able to switch between them on the fly would be really great for when I'm switching roles in a song.
Rabea has lost more compressors in his hair than I have ever owned.
Does this pedal make legato any easier?
So youve used the dyna comp script logo?
Sounds great, and I love your playing as always, however.... I can understand having the USB on the side, as you'll almost certainly only use that when preparing for gigs, but YOYOY and FTLOG.... WHY do they put the input and output on the SIDE of the pedal?! On a pedalboard it's always the sideways space that's the most precious, and even with right-angled jacks, it's a pain in the arse. Does sound great though....
I have a *super*compact board, so I'm loathed to buy any pedal that has its I/Os on the side. My tuner is the only exception atm, which is fine because it's at the start and so small anyway. This pedal is about to become my second exception, but I'm willing to put up with that for such a great sound!
i love when people use a single coil guitar
250ma to power up :o!
Isn't this very similar to the TC hypergravity?
Can it be used for vocals?
Usually compressors add hiss to the signal, but this one isnt??
Whats the benefits of having a compressor included in your rig, if I generally play clean tones? Thanks lads.
a compressor is actually better used on clean tones than higher gain ones, it depends how you set it but it can reign in errant transients for a smoother overall output, it can add sustain to fill in gaps between your notes, it can alter the EQ of your guitar bringing the bass middle and treble levels closer together or accentuating one area more than others; that can also happen if you buy a compressor that isn't transparent but colours your tone in a specific way. Like Dan from ThatPedalShow says, compression is the overdrive for your clean tone
What issue of Spiderman is that on the wall?
Did you try this compressor with voice?
Time for a Neural DSP version.
Isn’t that used for bass only?
Watches Rabea, thinks to self....do I need a compressor now, even though I've never considered owning one.... S*&^!!
better then keeley?
I know noise is inevitable, but some compressors are much better than others when it comes to it. Curious how this is, especially for guitar?
I have no background noise playing through my Rectoverb 25 compared to cheaper compressor pedals I've owned. I've never been a big compressor guy but after taking a leap of faith on this pedal it has had a home on my board since I purchased it.
@@a.wyattmann4370 mine just arrived yesterday and I was floored with how quiet it is. I've tried a lot of the "boutique" compressors, and none of them hold a candle to this! Definitely becoming a staple on the board
@@Michael_Is_Avg Glad you like it, super sym and FET compression mode are awesome!
Never mind the pedal, where can we get that shirt? ha
I don't understand why the manufacturer and retail sellers aren't even marketing this compressor to guitar players? Thoughts anyone?
Where is that tune from 13:00 ?
Zachary Williams no not really lol
That voice crack at 10:06 😂
The CRACKen
Luminal vs. Deep Six?
Joe Cassler not even close. Hyper Luminal by a mile. Way way way more versatile and better sounding. Deep Six does dynacomp compression well but it can’t kick out a dirty compressed sound like this and have as much flexibility. If you really want the deep six style I would recommend Wampler Ego instead. That’s what I use but I’m switching to Hyper Luminal for sure
Interested in best cheap(er) compressor.
yup
The dyna comp is a classic for a reason, plenty of world class players have used it for decades
Biyang Compressor. £30 on Amazon ish, Dynacomp clone but less noisy.
Yeah, the DynaComp is great but noisy as hell
Still even on its max compression does not do what the Ross or Dyna Comp script logo. Sustain is half maybe
Is it as good as the Cali 76
Without owning the Hyper Luminal myself, I couldn't say, but I will say that the Cali76 is (in my opinion) the best sounding compressor out there and I've owned quite a few over the years.
I reckon so man. Plus it’s more versatile as you have way more comp options
Meanwhile Becos with their compiq "Twain" and "Stella": Am I a joke for you?
I want to steal me one of those....
When Bea plays a strat...
"made a guitar mode" - a firmware upgrade?
what would i say, i bought it ....lol.....thank you...
Not cheap.........The cheapest one I found on eBay was 215.00 plus shipping for an open box buy.
As someone who plays equal amount of guitar and bass, having to switch between the modes with the software seems an inconvenience. Shame, because this demo does sound superb.
Compressors are a hard sell.
669th!!!
Is that a super kraken I see?
For me the mandatory app is the dealbreaker... Period.
13:07 Here check out this awesome compressor that's not actually doing anything..
Watch it again. You’ll see it is doing stuff
@@RabeaMassaad all good man. Just didn't see the meter lighting up in that quiet section, and thought it was funny. Such a sick piece of gear, although bout to sell mine to try to start funding a QC.
The keeley is shite. Dyna comp or Ross are the ONLY 2 compressors worthy of mention until I heard this one
250mA for power? I pass.
£250
firtht!!!
Mike Tyzon
yeth that ith cowekt!
I'm afraid to buy one of these, they are digital, and for any level controlling effect that is not a good sign :(
Greg why is a digital controlled leveling effect not a good sign? Because someone said analog is better, or is there a good reason?
@@Axiom_Link Because I hear the difference. And others too. that's why they say so :)
Hmm, interesting assessment. I think if you double blind tested analog vs digital at the same price point you might be surprised that it’s not 1980 digital anymore and you really can’t hear a difference. But I get it-I’m an “all analog, true bypass, non buffered is better!” kinda guy too. But occasionally I realize my heads up my butt and my eyes are what’s hearing the tonal differences.
@@Axiom_Link None of the above shitt applies to me. I have done many blind tests and truly can hear the difference. If I was satisfied with any modelling gear, I would buy one straight away, and wouldn't spend ages building an analog rack gear. If you don't hear the difference, its your problem.
@Greg lol. Ok boomer. Why are you watching pedal videos if you’re all about rack units?
