    Darkglass sent me a message saying the touch sensors are designed to be used against the floor. And indeed - that works like a charm and all the time. My fault.

    Maybe you should put it through a loop pedal and then use the effect so that we know the player isnt adjusting, even subconsciously.

    Thanks great review. I have been playing bass for 35 years and never really dove into to what compressors can do, I just use the one in my amp and never adjust it. This is intriguing.

    Hello,
    I have got the Darkglass B7K Ultra and have recently being using a Helix LT. I don't really dig the Helix Darkglass simulation but I am REALLY comfortable with not carrying amps to gigs anymore.
    Do you think that the Darkglass BK7 Ultra would work well with a power amp like the Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 and straight to the PA so I can get a powerful sound through the monitors which is what I am doing with the Helix LT at the moment?
    I am thinking about buying that power amp and also a Hyper Luminal Compressor and sell the Helix LT.
    Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Man that tone of the that jazz bass is perfect. Love it. Great review! Is the compression knob basically like the input knob on say the Empress or the Mxr M87?

    Hi, Gregor! Great review. Even if the Super Symmetry got discontinued there are still some to be found on the market and, since I´m not sure wether to buy one of them or the Hyper Luminal, I wanted to ask you which one of both you find more complete and why. Thanks a lot! K

      I litterally just sold my MXR M87 72 hours ago, and have been playing with this compressor for 3 days now. And I think it's night and day the difference.
      I MUCH PREFER the sound on the Darkglass compressor, but it does seem to give it a bit of a different quality. The m87 feels much more "neutral" but it's effect not as noticable. Sometimes I would even wonder if my m87 was working or not. I would have to look at it to confirm that it is indeed engaged or not. With the darkglass, I can hear it instantly. That's my 2 cents if it can help you.
      TL;DR: Hyper Luminal = more personality and versatility, M87 = more transparent and neutral

    I am not fan of using a computer to change settings. If they stop supporting the software, you will be stucked with the current settings.

    • @deanroddey2881
      @deanroddey2881 3 роки тому +1

      Agreed. It's fine to have an option and I guess important for live playing perhaps to quickly select presets or something. But, in the end, I'd prefer to have manual adjustments. Strymon does this kind of thing. It can be a bit hard to remember but most knobs have two or three functions, with the less common stuff requiring holding down buttons and turning the knobs. So it's still doable in a fairly limited space.

    What do “attack” and “release” even mean? And how can one knob control both of them?

    • @basstheworldofficial
      @basstheworldofficial  3 роки тому +1

      Attack is how fast the comp engages after every impulse (played note) and release how long it compresses until it releases the sound again. When there’s only one know they combine typical settings of both

    • @lavadoraautomatica1
      @lavadoraautomatica1 5 років тому

      Mxr compressor is good, but lacks the blend control which is critical when using compression on bass.

    • @theomitrentsis
      @theomitrentsis 5 років тому +1

      It's not critical - It's good to be there (for parallel/NY compression) but by no means a necessary feature.
