Best product review I have seen in a long time. He is a fantastic player, not overplaying just fundamentals.
Always nice hearing Darkglass stuff demo'd without LOADS of distortion the whole time. Great real-world examples that have now got me thinking about definitely getting an AO Ultra pedal for the board as a Sansamp alternative 👍
Don’t tell anyone on this very public social media site but the AO pedals are my favorite. The flexibility of the distortion and EQ make it a great mainstay for the board.
I’ve an AO Ultra pedal and play clean most of the time. It’s a fantastic pedal. Game changer. And great if you need that distortion sound too
I don't need that fuzz/distortion injections.
It's not 1970!
I like the weight of it, but don't want to get into the mass programming.
"We're walking, we're walking and STOP" Cracked up
Your Darkglass product demos are always super melodic and have practical and useful sound samples. Good Stuff!
Thank you Fidel
This is probably the best Darkglass amp demo to date. Really comprehensive and speaks to all the obtainable sounds out of your amps. Not just soul crushing distortion, which is cool too 😉. Great job!
Thanks for saying so! Glad it helped. Could have taken this one plenty more places as well.
THAT RICKENBACKER TONE🤤
They were *made* for each other
Whats up Patrick! 🤘 Hope you will also do a review on this one soon
Jesus calm down simp
@@hansvonbohmerwald4404 oh you're an angry niño, eh?😘
Hi patrick
Amos is really doing an amazing Job at demoing darkglass stuff. It makes wanna go buy again the stuff from darkglass that I’ve sold off and take a second look.
Thanks Kenneth! I’ve been told you have clearance to buy it as many times as you feel necessary. 😎
No exaggeration, that was the best gear review I've ever seen. EVER. All applicable, with context, and clear explanations. These amps are gorgeously designed and sound great as well!
Finally we can hear how a Rick and Darkglass sound together! :D
Pb & j as it turns out
@@AmosHeller Yeah! I mean sure it sounds great with a Dingwall but it's fun to hear the different tones you can get with othet basses and Darkglass stuff! Great playing man! ;)
Thank you!
Check out Hands off Gretel. Becky uses a Rick and Darkglass Alpha omega head! Banging tone.
Amos' s tone is banging top though!
@@funkbassboom Awsome! I'll check that out! :D
Cheeeezus. Finally a review that puts the amp not only in a context of a single, modern, overdriven sounds and limited use scenario's.
Thank You!
Great demo! As a bass player who essentially never use distortion, I find the clean tones of the Darkglass amps to sound really good, one of the best sounding compact heads! Heck, I even like the driven sounds in this video. Warmth and clarity.
Yeah. Their clean sounds are definitely underrated.
This is such a good demo. Great job Amos!
What a great video, nicely done. As an AO900 owner, I like your approach and will give it a shot next time I'm setting up. Thanks!
Among the many things to love about this video, the fact it calls "internet video intro" a genre might just be my favourite. Shallow of me, I know.
Grande Douglas!!!!
Got an Alpha Omega 900 coming soon. Really looking forward to bringing my new Ric 4003s/5 to life.
I love this demo and am impressed how even at high levels of grind, the top end isn’t crushed to mush. That’s a problem I’ve had in the past with such as the Tone Hammer 350. Pushing the Drive really strangled the lovely top end crispness 😎
Great review! Like the others I appreciated the cleans demoing. I have an AO Ultra pedal but a v heavy Ashdown combo which is why I was looking at this as a solution.
Excelent Demo! Thank You!
I recently got my Microtubes 500 V2 and since it’s my first Darkglass amp i’m still in discovery mode. I sold my Genzler Magellan 800 for this and I gotta say, as excellent as the Magellan is, the Darkglass fits my needs more. Distortion, cab IRs, software integration, and a one knob compressor.
It does A LOT. Capable of extremes for sure, but as subtle and flexible as you want it to be as well.
Excellent review bro! I've been looking for days and I think I may settle on this one right here. I got a lot of recommendations on the 900 but I think 500w is enough for me. I like HEAVY so this is would be great. Cheers!!🤘🏼🔥🤘🏼
I’m definitely getting one
I came here to see and hear the amp, but fell in love with that rickenbacker bass!
So wanna get one of the 500 series heads. Would love to see a similar video about the MT version. Best sounds I’ve heard from this amp so far, tasty playing as well.
There may or may not be one coming 😎
And thanks!
And it is 2ohm capable🤘🙌. Now my dual-mono rack amp can stay put!
We did it!
I'm a simple man. I see Darkglass notification, I click.
We appreciate your decision making process.
I gotta say... I love your Darkglass demos. It's good to hear DG stuff with something besides metal and you really showcase how versatile the DG stuff can do. I really, really dig the variety of tones you get out of their stuff. I recently joined a country / southern rock band doing originals with a mix of new & classic covers (Hank, Brooks, FGL, Urban). Most of the time I use a pretty typical round, warm, thumpy clean tone but I've been looking for something I can turn to to add just a bit of grit n' growl at times. Something that fills more space when the guitarist dips for a solo or to push some dynamics on a bigchorus. I'm pondering the pedal version of this amp or maybe the micro tubes X. Which would you choose for this kind of project?
😮😮😮 fuckin amazing, never hear somethin like this
Sounds awesome! What bass cab are you using?
I have the Ultra pedal, I hardly ever use the distortion, I just like the clean tone. I couild never find distorted tones I liked still I started getting freaky with the EQ, problem with that is that my clean tone is then rubbish. I do find when i switch to distortion I want to massively change the graphic settings, so I feel like I need another darkglass EQ so can have my clean signal and my dirty signal, easiest way right now is to buy another darkglass pedal with 4 band midrange sliders, that shit is what nails it. EDIT, so I chained a b7k ultra with the AO Ultra, that has worked out really well.
So the tone on this vs the 900 is it fuller or bigger on the 900 or is it similar? I just got the 500 and I'm debating getting the 900. But if it's a similar tone idk if I'd be wasting my time upgrading? Anyway love your videos they help me understand this crazy device so much better haha
Hey Travis, I'm in the same boat. I got the 500 but was having that conflict as well. What stood out to me about the 900 was that it had the MIDI output, which if I understand correctly would give me access to having multiple presets programmed (via Darkglass Suite) and controlled by a MIDI footswitch. As opposed to just having distortion on or off. I understand that there are more inputs on the back of the amp on the 900 and I am personally not sure what they do!
I am still figuring out the 500 myself so I am going to see how far it will take me before I go for the 900.
it would be great if they actually feature a how to use the outputs and recording aplications, the tone is nice but that is a given considering the price on the unit, tired of people showing you how it sounds, specially since they put out a processed and mixed version of it anyway
I wonder how it would sound with y'all's octave pedal?
How does this differ from the black v2 amp?
Is this recorded through just the D.I. or is there any other processing etc....in these clips
Is this 450w @ 8ohms..I keep hearing conflicting things..thanks
Quick question: eould I be able to use this as a bass head with any cabinet? Or would I absolutely need to buy a Darkglass cabinet?
2ohm or 3ohm? Manual on DG Webpage says 3ohm min load? Nice and thorough review!
Minimum load impedance is 3Ω!
@@darkglasselectronics Thx: Most of the device videos for 500 series amps show 2ohm printed on the device e.g. @4:16! Not sure why.
Is the dI clean ? Like most of their stuff. Or is it post EQ
Can i run this amp or the 900 watt version without a cabinet just for practicing with headphones, or through an audio interface to computer, without damaging the amp? Great video!
I sure hope so, since that’s how I did it. :) in general solid state power amps like this one don’t need a load (like a cabinet), but tube heads like the regal SVT do.
@@AmosHeller ok, thanks
How does this compare to the AO Ultra? If you're wanting to go ampless, would the Ultra be 100% worth the money? Or would you say this beats the Ultra by a mile regardless of amp or not?
what footswitch would I need for this amp ? ...cheers !
Do I need to have speakers plugged in to use this with headphones?
It doesn't need to be connected to a cab to be used, right? I don't wanna blow mine up right away!
You’ll be A-ok! She’s solid state. The connected to a cab rule only applies to all tube amplifiers.
@@jonsidell3338 Thanks!
I like to think Taylor knows who Nolly is now, and gets down to some Xyglrox before playing to 14 year old girls.
These are the best reviews darkglass has. Not like those "mmmwah I love everything they send me and make it sound the same every time" reviews by hunter
Yup. The very limited English adjectives he uses gets tiring after a bit.
@@jaxonvictoria4345 and I don't know how but he somehow makes all gear and basses have the same tone
@@hansvonbohmerwald4404 haha yeah. It doesn’t help that he’s primarily a pick player.
I have to disagree and think that Patrick gets different tones and timbres utilising different techniques. Patrick is a very happy excitable guy, can't blame him for being enthusiastic eh? He gets to play epic gear! 😋
What is this we're walking is it an attempt to be intelligent or funny LOL
