    I like to do long distance running and go to the gym and build muscles and I have allways heard that the long distance running will take the "fuel" needed to build muscles in the gym and hence the gym sessions will not be as effective in building muscle mass. Glad to hear this answer, cause it means for me to avoid that I just need to get more "fuel" in the body and I be fine.
    This is the only reason I've been thinking of starting with protein shakes. So I do not have to eat so much more to get that extra fuel. But then again my goal isn't to get "big". But I want the time and effort I put in the gym to not be "wasted" due to my love of running. (From a health point of view I know it is not wasted so this might perhaps be my vanity speaking mostly, lol)

    I just joined a gym for the first time in a number of years. I had my first workout session with my trainer on Wednesday of this week. Yesterday wasn’t too bad pain wise, but I’m feeling the effects of the workout more so today than yesterday. Is that normal? What would you suggest a good workout regimen be for a beginner who wants to lose body fat and gain muscle? How many days a week, what types of exercises, free weights vs machine based, stretching/yoga, etc. TY!

    Thank You. When I was young it was easy for me to put on the big muscles (the show off muscles). However, I’m a lot older and spent twenty years in and out of a wheelchair from a spine injury. I’ve had the use of my legs again for the last fourteen years but I am losing them again and for the last time. I don’t want to cause anymore injury but I need to build up some muscle to be able to move the part of my body I won’t have control of. What can I do and what should I stay away from besides the obvious things?

    Interesting remark about getting protein in before the workout, because I've heard more often is better to get the proteins in (like in a shake) after the workout, because you need it to rebuild. I prefer that because I have most energy on an empty stomach. I'm vegan but sometimes even 4hrs after a meal isn't enough for me not to feel weird in my stomach or low on energy. It's interesting that my body produces more energy, like heat than most omnivores I know. I even helped a guy stay warm in a tricky and long situation when we were stuck underground once (caving), we hugged and he was shocked how warm I am lol. Anyhow, it seems for me it's true that all the energy is used up on digestion after I eat and I workout better on an empty stomach even hours after waking up. The less I eat the more energy I have if I'm on the go all day as well (like when exploring a cave or hills looking for caves, it can be quite demanding). Well, ok, I haven't been in the gym with you, granted haha.

    Ok so my question is, which builds muscle more effectively, taking in the proteins before or after workout?
    To me it makes more sense carbs before workout (if it's late in the day), for energy and then proteins after workout, to provide building blocks to the muscles which got ripped apart and now need to grow.

    • @ameerx5734
      @ameerx5734 2 роки тому +2

    Here is an insight into how I view fitness and food, also some general advice. Hopefully it will help someone who is struggling a bit.
    Make it simple do some push-ups, squats etc move your body, lift things and stay away from processed foods or cut down and then slowly give them up. Food and fitness shouldn’t be complicated, you don’t need to count calories or take a note pad to the gym. If you show up and make it apart of your life you will see change in your body and life. Find something that you really enjoy and stick to it, make it a part of your routine.
    Also if you struggle at the gym I’d recommend full body instead of a split routine. Focus on compound movements - my full body routine is - squats deadlifts, chest press, rows, pull-ups, lat pull-down, shoulder press, crunches, leg raises. 3 days a week full body will get your stronger faster as long as you eat to fuel your workouts.
    Finally I would recommend finding a PT or experienced friend and learn proper form on all exercises. UA-cam is great for advice and tips but listen to your body and do what you enjoy. Have a great day and go do something active! 💥

    Haha. The coffee answer was really funny. I drink 3-4 cups per day, myself. I think the really big thing to consider with coffee is that you drink it black. It's not the coffee that's the problem. It's the cream and/or sugar that is often added.

    Hi, here's a little question, I train to be a bit healthier and look leaner, the thing is I honestly don't know much about working out eventhough I have quite an athletic body, and basically the problem is that I usually just train chest, arms and abs but I do it all in the same day, and then the day after and then rest one day. Is that okay or should I asign each muscle group it's own day?

    I would disagree as to number one. Carbs are a plentiful (in many if not most circumstances THE most plentiful) and easily accessible form of energy, hence their involvement in metabolism (from an evolutionary perspective), but they also spike insulin twice as high as protein and even higher than that than with respect to fat, and insulin not only insures that calories are stored rather than used, but prevents metabolism of bodyfat for energy (you're not gonna cut if you're eating enough carbs to fuel your body). The only essential use for carbs is for the brain in the form of glucose (which, if not otherwise available, can be converted from fat or protein) and that there are certain necessary nutrients that can be delivered in higher concentrations from carbs than from fat or protein (but it's a very niche thing, and you can do great on just meat for reasons I don't have time to get into, or even just mostly fat as long as you're not trying to build muscle mass). But basically, you can't go wrong by restricting carbs as long as you are making it up with fat and protein. But don't mistake me for a hater - I think this is a great channel, and there's nobody I agree with on every question. Including myself.
    And as an update, after watching this video to the end, I could not improve on any other answer to any of the other questions. This guy (I just discovered this channel) nails it. I've been working out consistently for 45 years (probably about 9,000 workouts, I would guess); I rep out at poundages most guys of any age can't do singles at and I've got a six pack like a model (even though I drink too much, sadly but truly). I would put this channel and Athlene-x as the two best workout/nutrition channels I've seen on UA-cam.

    95% of these questions leave out the important information of "what goal does the person posing the question have in mind?"
