As a chef of 27 years, here is some advice for roasting vegetables
Things like broccoli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and carrots (harder veggies) benefit from par-cooking in boiling water first.
    Then you roast.
Asparagus in particular, because it is so fibrous.
Blanch (par cook) your veggies about 50% in boiling water. Then finish in the oven
Things like eggplant, zucchini, onions and mushrooms are fine to roast or grill from raw state

Good, solid advice, lean meats and lots of veggies. I’ve been on a similar diet since the end of September and have lost 80lbs and 12 inches off my waist from a 46 to a 34 and man it feels good. I also pump iron 3 days a week and walk the other days. It certainly worked for me.

    • @MrZxcvbnm22

Trust me. Fatty burgers are much better for you than lean steaks... You should eat a lot of burgers and a lot of eggs. And the yoak is much better than the white. It has more protein (which is the opposite of what most fitness gurus say).
Also, eating 5 times a day is ridiculous... Your body doent need to be constantly digesting food. You should give it a break. Eating 5 times a day is what is killing people and what creates insulin resistance.
If you are fat, a good way to start to chance your habits would be to fast. Start slow but take it to even 2 or 3 days of fast. There's nothing wrong with that. Poeple forget that we are homo sapiens...

    • @MrZxcvbnm22

@@as-is89 Oh. Of course you should avoid the bun. Especially if you buy it (refined flour and lots of salt and sugar). Also, no sweet sauces like ketchup (don't mix sugars with protein. The protein will get sticky and become unusable for your body).
About this. If you exercise regularly. A good classic burger once every other week or a large pizza once every other week won't. Don't be too harsh on yourself. Enjoy life.
You just need to reeducate your body into 2 things: insulance resistance and hunger (which are related). So, everything boils down to:
      - Almost eliminate refined sugars
      - Reduce the intake of rice, pasta and bread (try to enter ketosis one week every month)
      - Intermittent fasting. Start with just 14hours of fasting. It's not that difficult.

Magnus, first I am loving your channel. this is one of the best meal plan break down videos I’ve seen. Please do a video going over how you shop when you’re on a diet. Please and thank you.
Second What’s the best way to figure out how many calories you need if you’re trying to bulk up and put on muscle mass?

    • @TheStiffler03
      @TheStiffler03 2 роки тому

actually pretty basic advices.. you need to count your calories intake ´and watch your weight for about 2 weeks. You might have to do it a couple of times but at the end you know exactly how much calories your body needs depending on your lifestyle. Lets say you figured out your body needs 2200 then you know you have to add about 300 calories to gain weight (muscle).

I have some questions. I was told by a nutritionist that carbs are necessary to optimally transport protein to your muscles, so a 1:1 ratio of carbs to protein is ideal for fat loss, where 2:1 is ideal for maintenance (with fat making up ~15g of every meal/5g of every snack).
After watching several of your videos, you seem to treat both fat and carbs as fuel, which makes total sense, but typically favor one over the other. Additionally, in this video in particular, you take your protein shake with no carbs. I guess what I'm trying to find out is whether carbs ARE necessary to build muscle, or can a meal completely forego carbs and/or substitute carbs with more fats?
I really enjoy this channel and your advice, it's nice to have someone with real credentials.

Keep eating carbs! Even though I’m drinking a shake with hardly any carbs I eat them with most other meals. You don’t need to eat carbs with all 5 meals in a day, 3 is enough. With that said though, most people eat a combo of fat and carbs , some favor one over the other.

Here’s a quick tip for getting the pit of an avocado off your knife (if you’re using the whole avocado): after splitting the avocado, scoop out the flesh from the half that *doesn’t* have the pit first and save the peel. Now, when you remove the pit from the other half, use the scooped out peel as a mitt to grab onto the pit and pull it off your knife. Super easy and no mess.

I would not follow his advice blindly... Specially when he tells you that you should eat 5 times a day... That's ridiculous. Your body doent need to be constantly digesting food. You should give it a break. Eating 5 times a day is what is killing people and and it's what creates insulin resistance.
This. Insulin resistence. Is what prevents you from losing fat. So reduce drastically your grains intace. That is bread, pasta, rice... And of course, you should eliminate sugar from your diet.
You should educate your body to use your fat. That's why you should eat a lot of fat. Abot the meat. The fattier the better (its also way easier for your body to digest). Burgers are king. It's much better to eat a burger than a super lean steak. And when you eat meat, always accompany it with onions and/or garlic.
Also, be careful abou whey protein. It creates water retention. So, if you absolutely need to take aditional protein, increase you water, salt and potassium intake.
If you are serious about losing fat, then just fast. Start fasting for a few hours. Make your stomach smaller. Decrease your production of grelin (the hormone that gives you hunger). After a few months, fast for longer. There's nothing wrong with fasting 2 or 3 days straight. And it's the best way to reset your insulin machine that makes you crave food.

I use carb manager, and calories under my normal. I also do Keto most of the week and then have a cheat meal or two on the weekend. I found keto pretty easy to lose weight on and here is why : It's VERY easy to go over cals when hitting carb heavy breads, cereals etc. When you cut out the carbs and are just eating protein and veggies guess what? You naturally cut like 1000 cals a day just off that alone AND it's hard to eat that much. I have to eat nuts, peanut butter, avocado, etc etc to get fats and cals up.
It works for me, I'm not a big anti carb person but it's been quite accelerated compared to just doing a lower cal diet. Was 1.5 to 2.5 lbs a week, now I'm hitting consistent 2 - 3 a week and fat is going away. I'm only about 30 lbs over and down 10lbs in a few weeks. Do what works for you :)

Hello Magnus . I have a question about methods that measure body composition. Can a gym provide accurate measurements and which method is preferable for people who have absolutely no idea about what to look for ? Thank you

    • @Michael-be9gu
      @Michael-be9gu 2 роки тому

A dexa scan is most accurate. Fat callipers and measuring circumference work fine so long as you are consistent in measuring. They are all "accurate" is consistently utilized and tracked, even if they are not. Hope that makes sense

@@Michael-be9gu Thanks for the reply . Is it easy to find it in a gym ?

@@misskitty2187 Dexa scans are usually a seperate office and can be a bit costly. Things like fat calipers you can actually buy the tool on amazon for like 10-20$, and the look up on youtube how to use it if you like. Not sure what gyms usually have honestly

There is a scale you put your bare feet on that passes a current through your body to figure out how much of it is fat. Takes a millisecond.

Thanks for this insightful video. However, I was surprised to see that there was no mention of fruit - something I often grab as a snack after the gym. Would you ever recommend this for weight loss?

Fruit is an amazing way to help lose weight. I often but it in my oatmeal and or in that Greek yogurt bowl he made

@@1936840 depends what the fruit is? Strawberries are lower in sugar along with blue berries. Id skip the oranges and bananas for the most part.
