@Canon Press Why can't anyone else see? Jordan Peterson is a new convert with a long academic history. He's a new guy. Haven't any of you seen this before?
He's disappointed, as am I, in the the Body, the church. It's a bunch of jokes no one is laughing at. Trust me, Doug, it's soooo bad, oh and denominational. One book, One Savior, one God, therefore, one church. Where is THAT church? That's the one I want to see. I'm in training for that one.
It's as common as the "saved".
@@geneticsmatter3834 that does make sense. Moreover, Christianity is not an easy road to volunteer. It says in the Bible that we should follow "whole-heartedly", and though I'm trying myself, I don't know of many others who even know what that means.
Doug is a good guy. He's been "around the block" more than a few times, so I'm sure he's aware. Jordan needs one more good push, I believe (hope), to really commit to the Father to that level.
It's really getting to the point where it's like "give up all the world, or follow it to Hell". I'm seeing the coming of the end of days clear as I have ever thought possible, so we don't have time to play anymore.
Be ever mindful not to spew law, or else we could have stopped with Moses.

@@whtstr2133 and @Genetics Matter. Jordan Peterson is not a Christian for a simple reason. His discourse clearly indicates that Christ is subservient to the betterment of Man. Not that we are to serve Him. For that reason alone, he's a Gnostic at best and a secular humanist from the Enlightment Luciferian era who bases everything in Jungian psychology at worst. Jordan doesn't even know what Grace is.
There's a lot we all have to learn but I have to tell your definition of works based Faith, is confusing me...Jordan doesn't need a push...Jordan needs Grace.

Man I would absolutely love to see a one-on-one discussion between Wilson and Peterson. Two giants, engaging in intelligent discourse around contemporary issues and primarily, the Gospel of Christ. How awesome would it be to have Canon Press bring on Peterson to talk with Doug? Or Daily Wire to bring in Wilson. That would be epic!

Peterson's foundation is that he loves young people, has taught them for years in College and has now traveled the world talking to them and hearing their cry.
Yep its his whole shtick. Youth dont want base do this and you'll be fine, they want something just out of their reach that they can chase. Why? Because they are unestablished, staying close to where they are leaves them unestablished and they instinctively know that.
I can relate to what he is saying. When me and my church going friends were teenage boys, we wanted something to do, wanted something to fight for or to accomplish. We felt that was severely missing from our church life. Our take-aways from Sundays and Wednesdays often seemed like not-to-dos, but we wanted something to do. Don't do this, don't do that. If we were instructed to do something, it was often theoretical, like "focus on Jesus", try really hard to clean your mind, think happy thoughts, manifest your own reality by wishing and thinking super hard, like we were in the lost boys clan in a Peter Pan story. We wanted real life, practical tasks to undertake and accomplish, but never really found any at the time. Young men want to work for something, work hard, conquer something, level up, get strong, and instead we were sucked up into playing video games until our late 40s, wasting away our ambitions.
Great point brother. I agree video games suck up our natural ambition and waste it away on a meaningless and false sense of accomplishment
@Prey R It’s not an either/or, but a both/and situation. Churches should provide ways/tasks for young people, *and* we should share the Gospel with strangers.

@Prey R I did, happily so, then everything came crashing down, church broke up, pastor thrown out, and my own family had a hand in it. disagreed with it, and now I just feel dead most of the time. I do believe, but haven't been to a church in years. on a side note, the only reason I ever believed, was not because a Church, but what Jesus said "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
I saw that love, true, powerful love, unfortunately it was not from my family but from another one. they weren't in church, but every time I walked in the door, someone was reading a bible, or a commentary, or playing the piano and singing hymns... it was like walking into the Holiest of Holy's in the temple, a family that radiated the love of God like nothing I have ever seen in any church I have been to. I don't know what my family is, I mean they are Moral, maybe republicans with some christian morals, but I don't even know if I can call any of them Christians, I see no love between them at all. many of them are church goers, and have nothing to do with me. never did. I would like to go back, I just don't think anything good would come out of it. I may attempt it sunday, but I don't expect anything.
@@justinm4497 please be reminded brother, “man’s chief end is to glorify God, and enjoy him forever.” Remember that our joy, edification, and peace in life can be found in Christ, and especially while participating in corporate worship with the faithful body of Christ. But while that is true, it should be bíproducts of our worshiping God. Our main purpose in all things (Sunday morning worship included) is to glorify God. I hope that you will go and find a good and faithful body of Christ to worship alongside, and even beginning this Sunday.

With respect, the argument that all churches are coexisting on the same worldview is simply a product of a dogmatic illformed theology. The church exists to glorify the triume God by fulfilling a transformed life. Read Mark 10 13 : 16

Peterson is bridging a gap for unbelievers that didn’t seem possible. Despite what people think about him and his beliefs he is certainly a genius.

@@CoachEgg as far as I know he hasn’t stated he doesn’t believe. He only clarified that he acts as if God is real. And has made the statement referring to Jesus that he does believe and is astonished by his belief.

Theological issues aside, I have enormous respect for Mr. Peterson. I happen to believe that one of the reasons Peterson can see certain issues so clearly, is because he truly understands the depth of his own depravity. Many “Christians” pay lip service to this, and while their out putting jewels on their own belt buckles, Peterson is serving his neighbor, and is doing so without blowing a trumpet of self righteousness like so many “ Christians” do.

Agreed my friend! He needs to stop suppressing the truth about Jesus, stop resisting Him, surrender to Him by coming quietly to the foot of the cross. He still trusts in his own wisdom and intellect to save himself. Mr. Petterson does not realize that he needs Christ Jesus to save him from himself.

Peterson brings a reflective discourse. Any Christian should feel a certain conviction in what he is presenting. I sure have. I love this quote: "Attend to some souls." Thank you for your rich comments Doug. Blessings on you all

Jordan helped me stumble my way towards Jesus. Jordan showed so many people the path through the woods.
I've been to church and they are very good at scripture and details. Most of them lack the overview. The church I went to tried to lock me in my home. In their splendid looking armor of wokeness they walk with Lucifer. It is sad.
Jordan Peterson is definitely a man on a journey of faith. You have someone that was a staunch atheist, that now acknowledges God, went to Church (when he said he never would), etc. It has been a very fascinating journey to watch for sure. He is a man that thinks, so he is talking things out, working it out in his head. Something confusing to those that have and do believe, but something that happens to those who are on a journey. We are all wired to God, we all get there in different ways. I believe that God uses imperfect people to help us find him.
As for his sentence of "rescue your father from the belly of the beast." It is a sentence full of symbolism. Jordan has talked about the story Pinocchio and how it is rich in symbolism and meaning that many people don't pick up on at all. . But let me try to explain.
The sentence comes from Pinocchio where he literally had to save his father from the belly of the whale.
In the story, his father is the symbol of God. But if you know Jordan Peterson's past work, God means something like this:
The highest possible value - the perfect example - is the best a person can be.
So Pinocchio runs away from his father and becomes somewhat of a Donkey (Jackass).
By this, the story means he has turned away from the ideal/the best he can be, or in a more biblical sense, he has sinned.
So luckily Pinocchio realized he was turning into a Jackass in time and tries to make his way back to his father.
So back to the ideal/best he could be.
But it's not that easy, his father is no longer there.
This means that you can't just simply undo the bad you have done.
So now Pinocchio is thrown into chaos. His life is upside down and he is lost.
He destroyed his life and there is no easy way back.
But he does know what he must do, he must go save his father from the belly of the monster.
The monster in this case is the difficult path he must walk and/or hardships he must do to get the ideal back.
And to do that he must go to where the whale is, the deep dark ocean where you can be ripped up by the creatures that live there.
This means you must be willing to sacrifice things in your life to achieve the goal. You can be hurt and may not be the same person.
You can figuratively or physically be ripped up.
But of course, he does save his father and becomes a real boy.
This means he has achieved the ideal he has strived for and become a more complete person.
So in essence it may mean something like:
To become a more complete person/better person/the ideal person, you must overcome what is difficult.

So the Christian perspective :
Pinocchio's father symbolizes God.
Pinocchio goes out into the world, rejects God (the father), and therefore sins.
We all know what happens when people reject the authority of the Father, they set themselves up as God. They become empty and lacking, and then chaos pursues their lives ( whether that is with suffering, or getting what they " ask for"). They become lost.
With that comes destruction, and Pinocchio (the lost) has to walk back to the father ( God). There are going to be hard times, and there will be suffering ( the monster) while making the journey back to the father ( God). It won't be easy, you need to go to the "belly of the whale" figuratively speaking to come out new in your journey with God.
Hope that clarifies that for you a little bit. Of course, people can add or subtract from this last part, but the above is the explanation of when he refers to "rescuing the father from the belly of the beast.

Great point, why do unbelievers have more courage more sight more reason than many Christian’s who are comfortable being silent, never disagreeing, and overtaken.

@@adamthompson3218 it’s like a broken clock; correct twice a day.. Peterson is operating on truths, but he doesn’t give, much less have, source for that truth. What Doug is saying by saying that is essentially a version of his “by what standard” motif. Sure Petersen is talking truth, but by what standard? Straight talk from a crooked foundation indeed.

@@adamthompson3218 personally I don’t think the specifics are the point. Doug is saying that Peterson isn’t a Christian, so what foundation does he place any of the moral stances he takes? It’s more of a philosophical critique than a direct commentary on anything Peterson is saying. The idea that he could be right about something is all well and good, but “why” is he right? If we think it’s just because of mans good-will towards one another, I’m fairly certain Doug would contend man has no good-will towards each other outside of Christ, or the common grace and truth the Holy Spirit writes upon our hearts. So if Peterson were to make claims on anything outside the truth of Christ and the gospel, it would be a corrupt or crooked foundation upon which to make a truth claim.
Does that make more sense?
@@Apoch86 I'm pretty sure Peterson recently came out as a Catholic. So he's got a solid foundation, whereas the Protestant preacher here has a "fallible collection of infallible books" (as RC Sproul famously taught).

Dr Peterson is one of the most influential minds of the time. Just recently accepted Christianity.

What’s worse: having been miraculously provided ears with which to hear (but persistently not listening) or never having been given ears with which to hear and yet seemingly being capable of hearing as though you had? Regarding the Church, isn’t Jordan simply a sign or portent from the living God that even those who haven’t actually been given ears to hear can still discern what God is actually saying? What mirror is this being held up to the face of the corporate Bride? 👰♀️
Haven't been given ears to hear- you do not know much about Jordan Peterson if that is what you think - he's an educator - of the mind and how twisted it is - he's a man of integrity and that is sadly lacking in the church - his purpose is to teach young men all that they can be, in THIS life and how that begins with 'responsibility' - he's not a minister of Jesus Christ but he has done more to teach the Bible to his students than any minister I know

He's a progressive. All psychologists deeply believe in progressivism and have to in order to be practicing psychologists - that is believing science can provide us with our morality. When this turned up in my feed, I thought, okay, here we go: We’re gonna get the typical “Peterson-says-some-good-things-but-he’s-not-a-Christian-so-we’ve-gotta-be-careful” routine, followed by a declaration that, since he’s not a believer, he has no business addressing internecine matters, topped off with a heavy dose of “by-what-standard”(s), and I’d be completely inebriated by 9 a.m. But he actually addressed this with some nuance. I know DW is allergic to that word, but there you go. Way to go, Doug!

I don't agree with the sentiment at 6:23 where it's implied Dr. Peterson has no basis for his duty claim. He's clearly talking to those of the Christian faith and doesn't want to ostracize any other denomination by inserting his own biased interpretation of Christian duty. The statement is a call to action for both men and the Church (of any branch) to connect on the grounds of duty.
The specifics of that duty is between man and faith and doesn't need to be prescribed here by Dr. Peterson.
"Dead father from the belly of the beast" is likely a Pinocchio reference from his Maps of Meaning series.

I believe in a previous JP reaction vid we heard Doug quote Jesus from Mark 12 regarding Peterson "....this one 'is not far from the kingdom' ". This Peterson post, I think, is further evidence to that observation.
Enjoyable to watch
Peterson has a strong message that we should heed. Listen to the overall message here- he wants young men and men in general to find a place in the church, and for good. To pick apart his talk for small items or for his wording, etc , is to simply continue to keep them from the church. His message doesn’t have to be perfect to be right. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be a call to action. A greater good would have been done to support the good he was seeking and leave the rest alone.

If you pay attention to Petersons lectures. He does point to Jesus Christ as the ultimate example of "aiming for the highest good anyone can imagine" he presents this idea psychologically as a clinical psychologist. Then he breaks down the psychological characteristics of christ and connects them to everyday life. He does a better job at explaining this than any priest or pastor I've seen in my life. And I've seen a many of priests, pastors and preachers.
Exactly, and he does it in a way that doesn’t infantilize the viewer. If it weren’t for Jordan, I would still be an atheist.

Thank you for your commentary. I will say, having listened to Jordan Peterson for years, he has come a long long long way. I personally feel, given more time, he's on the right track and will find Jesus if he hasn't already.
I've prayed for him! With his health issues of the past couple of years, it's a genuine miracle he is alive and functional at all. My concern is that if he genuinely did come to Christ, he would lose a huge portion of his audience. Many of them are cult-like. They worship him. I don't say that lightly. The thing is, he could still say many of the same things he's saying now. But if he came at it specifically from a biblical basis, they would turn on him instantly. That would cut into his platform reach, speaking engagements, interview requests, book sales, etc. Would he be willing to give it all up? I hope so. But it would not be easy. The same level of "love" they have for him now, would be the level of hatred. Many of those who follow him but hate Christ would count it a betrayal. He would have to count the cost. Perhaps he already is.

I came to Christ in 2019, 3 years after finding and appreciating JBP, 2.5 years into running a “Jordan Peterson Study Group” in Raleigh, NC.
Peterson helped turn me toward Christ.
A Christian in my study group (now a dear friend, and was a groomsman at my very Christian wedding) had me in the Bible weekly.
God used Peterson to turn many like me toward Him. I am forever grateful to Peterson, and first and foremost God, for this.
I pray that he confesses Christ, but also understand his wrestling (in his own way) with Him.
Doug, I think a dialogue (or a series of dialogues) between you and Peterson would be fruitful. For Peterson, for me, for people like me, for people like me before 2019, and for the young men who are looking to get involved with church, but currently feel like the church isn’t for them (my complaint for even my own church is that almost all of the teaching is the kind of teaching that applies to both men and women of the church; I don’t hear too much about what applies specifically to the men, except in the context of marriage.)
Doug, as always, great video. I hope this comment might inspire you to reach out to Jordan Peterson if you haven’t already.
Also, another pastor I think you might want to sync up with (please look him up) is “Pastor Miles” - I only just found him, but I have a good feeling that if he hooks into this “revival” (I am reluctant to use the words, as it is buzzy) it will be good.

I made the same mistake once, and then twice with John Paull II and the history of Poland (which was amazing at the time)...Then I realized the only One that helped was God who used BAD things for Good, as usual.

Peterson was referring to one of his favorite stories with the weirdness, Pinocchio. The part with saving our 'father'.
“He ( Peterson ) talks to young men like a Drill Sergeant…..” My Drill Sergeant at Boot Camp could reduce a man to a quivering wreck with just a glance.
Strange and kinda awesome how God wired us to respond to that. That famous drill sergeant scene from Full Metal Jacket is oddly compelling, and not just because it's funny.
The man cannot lecture God's people about saving souls when he has not attended to his own soul. His famous advice telling young men who want to save the world to go home & tidy their bedroom is advice he does not apply to himself in spiritual matters.
It's easy to criticize a man that has more credibility than the modern church isn't it? Know that he has had more effect that you will ever. What is the church famous for? Want to start with the sexual scandals? Or the ineffectiveness in the last 30 year?

The church is full of a bunch of sinners lecturing each other on how to be saved, so your point is mute.
What Peterson brings to the table is the awareness that natural law brings - sure, his "foundation" isn't as sure and steadfast as what the church can claim, namely sola scriptura and yet the reason he can see the things he speaks of, maybe with better clarity than a lot of Christians, is that he is at least consistent in applying what he can see coming from a natural law starting point where as, those who may have a more sure foundation (special revelation) aren't - having abandoned any reasonable dependence on their final authority, Peterson can speak more authoritatively from his natural law framework than the church can - or chooses to - and that gives him the voice he has earned to speak to the issues. Those who claim the mantel of Orthodoxy and say they rely on that more sure foundation and yet do not speak as Dr. Peterson speaks, aren't orthodox - at least not from a orthodox faith that is vibrantly alive.

7:12 Peterson often references Pinocchio as an illustration. Here, he is definitely referencing Pinocchio rescuing his father from the belly of the whale.
God give us real men who are true to Jesus Christ.
Tell men they are not only acceptable but utterly necessary to the Church and tell women that the Church isn't about them and their ego's it's about Christ and His Lordship.
Even if the Church can resolve the issue between itself and men it will only be temporary until the Church resolves the issue of out of control women.

I am still a practicing Protestant who has been learning about Orthodoxy for the past 6 months. Am now about halfway through catechism. Spiritually rich and fulfilling. Finally I am moving into a faith that my soul has been yearning for, for decades. And I don’t have to check my masculinity at the door.

Orthodoxy is about 99% there, and much better than Protestantism. But the truth is found fully in Catholicism.
Unfortunately the leadership right now is too effeminate to fight against modernist secular humanism, largely due to Vatican II. Satan won't be able to remove or change the dogmas, but he's been effectively attacking everything else.
Purgatory is not in the Bible. Mary cannot pray to us from the grave, nor has she ascended to heaven, nor should we pray to her. Research the origins of catholicism and steer clear from their false teachings not supported by and contrary to the Bible.
@@braydynniewiadomski4006 Catholic here, and I'll stick up for my Orthodox cousin, Sola Scriptura isn't in the bible either. Sola Fide is flatly contradicted. Both of these doctrines are heretical. By the way, when he says "One Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church", he's quoting the Nicene Creed, which comes from the Council that established the Holy Trinity as doctrine.
You know, that other thing that wasn't explicitly spelled out in the bible but that Protestants picked and chose like the dessert in a buffet.
@@notcrazy6288 Protestants do not pick and choose. They use the Bible rightly divided as their authority, which includes the knowledge of the revelation of the Father, Son and Spirit.
Jesus said the word of God was truth and the Father gave Him all authority and He taught us that scripture was what would judge us on the last day, the word. Not some Pope, or Papal line that did not start in the first century nor was it ever instituted in the New Testament.

It was the teachings of the Apostles, and then the Bishops that propagated the Christian faith before the bible was written, which included, by the way, the Deutero-canonical books that the Protestants edited out because they were inconvenient to their new invented doctrines.

Excelente, demand more.....give them the ten commandments, the lord prayer and the body of divinity by Watson, the value of family and raising children and the wisdom on using the time. There is so much in the church.

Benjamin Gilley - do you agree the church is prioritizing saving the planet? I am gobsmacked by this suggestion by JBP. This is not a message I am receiving from the Christian church. Have I missed something? If not - then this seems like a mis-truth.

And this is where Jordan will stay imo. He’s “sooooo” close on purpose. When asked if he believed in God he said he didn’t like that question because people are trying to box him in. Jordan wants to play all sides. Dip his feet in the water of every pool while not committing to one particular pool.

@@jacobgarcia6081 He doesn't believe in God and gets upset that you ask him the question. It was common knowledge at one point that if you can't say Jesus is Lord then you are not walking in the faith and are not a follower of Jesus. And to be wary of those people.
Thank you, Doug, for allowing an earnest seeker, like Peterson, to toggle back and forth… something I’m sure each of us did 1,000 or more times in our unique searches.
Thanks also for holstering your flamethrower, if you own one. A generous faith is a big-hearted one, which is more attractive to the 7BB+ people roaming earth, each hand-crafted by the Creator.
The themes that we now ascribe to Peterson (sadly not ascribed to people of lifelong faith), like maximal responsibility and shouldering the heaviest load, resonate perfectly with the young men that I facilitate, ages 18-24.
Their generation and the one that came before them requires well-adjusted elders with generous hearts and curious minds.
Those seem like traits we might wish to attribute to God.
If they are then let’s each follow his lead.
Broad hearts and curious minds are not mutually exclusive from Christ’s narrow path. They dovetail nicely, but in order to see you’ll need to listen more often than you speak.
If you’ll listen well then the past two generations of partly fatherless men would love to talk with you.
Jordan Peterson is a psychologist and the very essence of psychology is progressivism. The belief that science alone can provide us with our morality. He has certainly picked up enough trimmings from philosophy to make his progressivism more palatable to Christians. Good news I guess that the most antithetical belief to Christianity is now considered esteemed leadership.

I appreciate that he acknowledged his presumptions at the beginning. If he is not actively serving or connected to his local church helping them implement his own message then yes… his admonishment is very presumptive. But… maybe he is active and connected. I hope he is.
I'm disappointed that Doug didn't respond to "to rescue your dead father from the belly of the beast, where he has always resided" with another call for reform and revival. That's what the practical application of the Jungian journey archetype would look like I daresay.
The reason he's able to say this stuff when most Evangelical Protestants (and indeed most Christians) can't is because, like Churchill did, Peterson believes in something called Christian Civilization, and that it is worth defending. When you believe in that, it calls you to act against Evil. That is in itself manly, and a lot manlier than sitting around arguing about creeds and who is saved and who isn't. He got me to go back to Church so that we can do something to change the world. Support something that's good instead of perfect. And look at all the progress that has been made since 2016.

Another outstanding reply. Joradan does have clinical experience that shows the need for masculinity in a culture and in our churches. Most churches, even the evangelicals have been feminized.

My home school Boy Scout troop was unique in my experience as a Christian in that masculinity was embraced.
Be thankful. My Boy Scout experience was that of the fathers being overgrown boys who were blowhards rather than real men.

The issue is how tightly he cleaves to Jungian psychology and Darwinism. Carl Jung and Charles Darwin are, quite literally, the framework on which JP bases all his suppositions. As long as that is true, he will never be able to square himself with what the Bible teaches.

@@matthayes533 That's nice of him to say, but he has also released recent videos in which he interviews evolutionary biologists for explanations of various aspects of human behaviour. JP is not merely involved in those discussions as a observant bystander - you can hear in JP's voice, mannerisms, and word choice that he genuinely thinks answers about the human condition lie in the theory of evolution. His admiration for Christianity is utilitarian in nature, not based on spiritual faith.
I agree with you, it will have been a long and hard way if he comes to Christ. He will have to overcome his attachment to Jung and Darwin first.
@@matthayes533 A lot of ppl say that the Bible is the basis for all truth, but it doesn't mean that they actually have nay interest in living like they actually believe that. The Bible teaches a lot of things that contradicts the kind of false education that ppl like Jordan are exceptionally steeped in.

Winning young men back into the church that is biblically orthodox should be welcomed back. Repent to the Father, believe in Jesus and recieve the Holy Spirit.
I have never heard of this channel. It appeared on my recommended recently and I was curious to see how someone like this would react to a psychologist's viewpoint of the religion. But I was hoping to hear something new from this guy, doug, but so far I haven't.

I've mentioned before in a university tutorial discussion in comparative religious studies that Kierkegaard was right then in saying the Catholic Church has "the kind of orthodoxy which is cordial drivel, mediocrity served up sweet" only because they no longer pursue truth and beauty in fear of being wrong, and in its modern instantiation wherein there is no need for Church doctrine when it has been replaced by social and environmental causes. Whether or not those are worthwhile pursuits is not the question here, but the lack of anything "Christian" discussed on the pulpit. If the Church is now just a hollow vehicle to discuss those causes, what purpose and meaning does anyone have to be a Christian at all?
