I fail to see how two tiny brief reviews of Jordan Peterson 101 can give anyone any insight on how close he's to the Kingdom of God. You're not even halfway through the tip of the iceberg and making these claims for comment's sake. Not a good sign.

@@einarabelc5 "Close to the kingdom" is a phrase that is taken from the words of Jesus to the man who answered wisely with regard to the law, which of the commandments were the greatest, but the understanding is that close is still too far. Salvation is a sheep vs. goats thing, not a game of horseshoes, that is you're in or you're out.
Your point is well taken, that the law of God doesn't justify. Only the Gospel can do that. I don't speak for Peterson, but he gives clear preference for the Christian faith as a philosophical framework, somewhat like one of his mentors, Jung.

    • @einarabelc5
      @einarabelc5 2 роки тому

@@duncescotus2342 Very akin to Jung. In fact Peterson justifies his whole thing about Aion as people confounding Karl's approach with that of occultism. I have met Peterson in conference and I have thanked him for what he has done before he became truly famous, but that night there was something upsetting about his approach, which hasn't changed at all and it's still confirmed every time I check back on the guy. That is that mankind can save itself by imitation of the Christ idea and bring forward "heaven on earth", by following truth. Doug put it best on his Right Response ministries commentary to Joel Webbon, something I've been saying for the past 4 years or so. Peterson lacks complete awareness of the True Redemptive Grace of God.
I don't think any close approximation can serve anyone, in fact it can lead people astray, which is my main concern with Peterson and his tendency to portray things as idolatry of mankind. Jung was a nice boy either, adulterous, dabbling in occultism, accused of being a warlock, contemporary of Crowley AND Lewis, who actually confessed he went from atheist to occultist before being saved.
It's all lies wrapped in truth and the fact that Peterson pretends to USE Christ as a tool for psychotherapy(because that's who he is and how he conceptualizes the world) in order to "save" mankind from itself makes it all even more so frustrating. We get it that he cares about people, but he doesn't know God, nor does he really understand Sin.

    • @duncescotus2342
      @duncescotus2342 2 роки тому

@@einarabelc5 Ok, wow, didn't that about Jung. I thought he was a stiff Swiss Calvinist whose dad was a minister. You know those PK's. They almost have to go prodigal. But I think Jung came around again later in life. He sort of took Christianity for granted I think. There's actually a video here on UA-cam where he speaks a bit on his faith. It's iffy, but hopeful:
      ua-cam.com/video/2AMu-G51yTY/v-deo.html
Crowley freaked out the Universalist-leaning-semi-gnostic-quasi-Christian-alcoholic but soft hearted Dylan Thomas.
      C. S. Lewis had to go far and wide so he could be the comprehensive but accessible voice for reason that he was.
Yes, Peterson is uplifting man as the highest creative good, and the highest CREATED good. This is true and sound Bible, but man is fallen, and he has yet to get that down into his gut.
We will see this brother come around. I have no doubts about that.
But just as many in the past tried to co-opt Aristotle, or worse Marcus Aurelius or George Washington or some other double minded fence sitting phony for Christian ends, they err by seizing a wounded soldier to put up front. Rather, tend to his wounds, minister to him, and then he will be fit to serve.

I was one of those young men that flocked to Jordan Peterson during my last year of college (2017).
I knew I was heading to graduate with really no idea what to do next but save up and move away from my family so I can force myself to sink or swim.
Went from hearing him say "Find the heaviest thing you can carry and carry it" and started taking responsibility for myself, to listening to Voddie Baucham, John Macarthur, Doug and others and have been content for the better part of 5 years (2017-Present).
I'm 28 years old, bought a house this past February and am currently in the process of making it ready for my wife to be (wherever she may be so that I may sweep her off her feet).
All that to say, thank you Doug and other men like you who are that elder generation calling younger men to BE men. Hearing so many call me to the mat was the encouragement I needed to even believe I could BE that (Godly) man.

If anything else JBP is getting people interested in the Bible - he certainly did for me a few years ago before God saved me. So God is working through him even now. Otoh, JBP is so popular and influential in part because he doesn’t know the Lord and he’s preaching a false gospel that doesn’t offend as nearly as many people as the true Gospel of Christ does.

You want to know what Jordan Peterson does that most people aren't willing to do? He's willing to speak the truth no matter how harsh it sounds. While everyone was telling our youth, "you are perfect the way you are", he was telling them, "you aren't perfect, and you have a lot of improvements to make!".

The Church tells us that we’re hopelessly depraved and only the passive process of sanctification can resolve this problem. Trust in Christ, die to self, surrender any ambition, submit to pastor, give a portion of the little you have for The Kingdom and put on a happy face.
Dr. Peterson tells us that we have a side of us that’s wickedly evil and that’s the side we have to overcome. It’s gonna take everything you have, you’ll have to go through hell, it’ll be damn hard, but it’s worth it.
Peterson is popular because he is asking you to be your own hero. Every man wants to be the hero. But only Christ can carry that burden. So dust off your Bible and fall back in line. The hero is coming… someday.

    Examples of the childless attitude:
My friend (12 years older than I) stated she didn't want kids, and her husband scorned them openly for being loud in public. She becomes a nurse, then a pediatric nurse. 10 years later, she's okay with children. She admitted she didn't know how to act around them.
I see my sister only every two years or so. Each year she says she doesn't like children. But I have children, and she immediately gets used to them, holding their hands, responding to their cries, and caring for them.
My brother's sister stated recently that she found children uncomfortable and didn't know how to act around them. Then, immediately, responds in nurturing ways to my childrens' requests for food and to play.
The Anti-children sentiment has surrounded me. I was anti-child once, and it's no wonder. The devil is lying, and people are believing his lie.

Never in my life have I prayed so hard, for a specific person I will probably never meet, for the LORD to save them. His salvation wouldn't add a single person to the number of the elect, nor does God in any way need him, but he would spend every waking breath until the day he died glorifying God and he would have what he's missing in the world. A "WHY". And he would be broken over the right things and the brokenness he has now would be healed and so many of his tears would be replaced with joy and it would happen extremely publicly (until his current fan base couldn't take it anymore). I would be an incredibly visible example for the church militant to see what actual transformation looks like. Plus we gain a brother!

There was a time (not that long ago) when society was "close to the kingdom" in that respect. I think that's one reason why JP gets it. He also understands logical deduction & belief within society pretty good. The problem is, to be ambitious and succeed (in general terms) you have to adopt the current ideology (politically speaking).
Peterson is very interesting to listen to (if your educated/semi educated) but I don't buy into his lobster analysis. He speaks with a fair amount of authority and knows his stuff and for that I respect him.
The Bible tells us children are a blessing for sure. Families were large/larger a generation or two ago. A society that shifts away from God is going to devolve on many levels and unwittingly idolise pretty much anything that takes a fancy. Its not called the last days for nothing.
Bottom line, Government does not have the answer to fix humanities woes, but it excels in piling up debt. The so called educated people influencing the young are not that far from the blind leading the blind.

Jordan makes it clear you need to seek this final piece out for yourself.
First time I saw a clip of Jordan I’ve been so wanting to create content in a similar vein to what he is hitting on, but using scriptural support for it. Nearing the jump off point and just trying to put the pieces together. Clearly it’s needed. JBP is not a true believer - that’s news that everyone would have heard. Where is a video of him saying that he believes Jesus Christ was God in the flesh, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, willingly died on the cross as the ultimate sacrificial lamb so that wicked sinners could be forgiven and justified before God, rose from the dead three days later, met with people in his glorified body over several weeks and finally ascended into heaven in front of hundreds of witnesses? (And where’s the video of him recanting all the Gnostic nonsense that makes up large proportion of his life’s work?)
If he believes all that and he has been miraculously transformed by that belief in that he now hates the sin in his life he used to love and now loves to obey and please the God he used to deny and rebel against - if he has been born again, then and only then is he a true believer.
If/when God has mercy on JBP, opens his eyes to the Truth and draws him to Christ I will cry tears of joy. I pray that God will. What a day to celebrate that would be. I can’t even imagine how blown his mind would be to suddenly know that the Bible is even truer than he already used to believe. I know mine was. How can it be? But it is, the gospel is the Truth, Jesus really is the Way.

I think it's incredibly dangerous to label Peterson "incredibly close to the kingdom". He's a man who, however learned in biblical ethics, principles and morals, hasn't/won't surrender to Christ. He's reduced the Lord to a symbol of philosophical transcendence, which of course He is not less than, but in personal relationship He is eternally more than. Not to truly give your life and soul over to PERSONAL and not merely PHILOSHOPHICAL relationship with Jesus, means he's just as lost as a guy on death row for murder. Yes, it seems clear the Lord is after Mr. Peterson's soul veraciously and appears to be in the process of softening his heart, but until he repents and believes on the name (the person and not just the image/character/symbology) of Jesus, the Lord's pursuit of his soul could well prove to be another example to be made of the good seed falling on rocky ground. Pray for him and that he'll seek the gift of faith the Lord has given us in his grace that we're able to enter true relationship with God, but don't fall prey to the gambit of religiously secular teachings of a man who openly doesn't want to be identified as a Christian because his disdain for being pigeon-holed into a "club" outweighs his desire to openly proclaim Christ's Lordship in his life.

I have often thought the same thing. The people in charge of the church haven’t a backbone to standup to anything. No adultery, abuse, or abandonment, just not emotionally supportive. I really needed a pastor to kick her in the butt and if she did that to her family she is out the church. but I got a little clown who probably thinks he is a little girl trapped in a man’s body.
