You sir have opened my mind and blew me away with your pics.
Thank You!
Glad I could help. Thank you for watching
Just came across your video and loved it. Really appreciate your recommendations from varied genres. I have duly written them down as pressings to obtain for my collection. Also just subscribed 👍
All the best from Australia
Cheers
Steve
Thank you for your kind words. Hope you enjoy your new purchases. Thank you for watching
Really beautifully curated list, and I’m so glad the legendary UA-cam algorithm chucked it my way! Really well presented, Mr, you’ve got yourself a brand-new subscriber.
Thank you for your kind words and thank you for watching.j
I love your channel. Your tone and demeanour is very humble and polite. I discover a lot of great music from your recommendations. Subbed 2 weeks ago but never managed to drop a comment til now. Great job. Keep it up!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoy the channel. It gives me motivation to do a good job
@@AllAboutAlbums I have just gotten into vinyl December last year and I am absolutely into it now. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out on. It made me appreciate music at a much deeper level. Your channel is one of the valuable resources I refer to regarding this hobby. Thanks for what you do!
When I show off my stereo, I pull out Flim and the BBs Tricycle, Donald Fagen The Nightfly and Peter Gabriel Security, the earliest DDD releases. I bought these on CD when you could only buy CDs in stereo stores, 1985ish. Before I get flamed here for DDD, I have to mention that I have a PhD in analog circuit design, I am one with all of you analog lovers. Alex, thanks for your recommendations and your closing purchasing tips, so valuable.
Hi Alex, so pleased I found your highly informative and eloquently presented videos, they’ve inspired me to search out some old classics and some I didn’t know. Just one comment, for those living outside the US (I’m in the UK) some of these albums from say Analogue Productions are very expensive to import once tax and duty are added which is a shame.
I can understand that. They are expensive to start out with here in US. I’m glad you enjoy my channel. Thank you for watching
I'm 60 years old and just discovered Dave Brubeck, thanks to you. This album, "Time Out" is superb! Thank you.
I’m glad you found a truly classic album. Great start to finish. Thank you for watching
Try Joe pass (For Django) wonderful recording
It is a fantastic album.
Great choices! I've added a few of these to my list to pick up, including Melody Gardot. I appreciate the label recommendations as well. Liked and followed!
Thank you for your comments. I hope you enjoy the new music. Thank you for watching
I would add Kevin Grey to that list of engineers. He’s done some amazing albums. Great video. I have quite a few of the albums you mentioned and I agree with you on each of them.
Thank you for watching. I cannot agree with you more. It was an oversight on my part not to list Kevin Grey.
@@AllAboutAlbums Doug Sax did many many records. Look for TML in the dead wax.
@@andershammer9307 What is TML in the dead wax? Can you write that in English. 🙂
@@1lacowboy TML means The Mastering Lab which was Doug Sax of Sheffield Lab.
I think he did Moondance (VM)
Thanks for the video. Man. The production of morning phase is so perfect. I might like some of the songs on sea change more but I don’t understand how people prefer that production.
It’s the “Dark Side of the Moon” of the 21st century. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching
Thank YOU Alex, the music that you recommended here is SPOT ON, and I absolutely loved it. Caveat, I bought ONLY CDs and it sounded awesome. The recording was superb, thank YOU. Especially Shelby Lynne, oh man the album is amazing. Guys, this guy here is legit!!!
Thank you. You are too kind. Believe it or not but the Shelby Lynne on vinyl is even better sounding. Thank you for watching
It has been scientifically proven, Vinyl does not have "better sound" it has limited frequencies. It's only a nostalgia and kinesthetic feel you are after, but it is a subjective personal feeling attached to the vinyl sound. Zero Fidelity, John Darko, Steve Guttenberg and many many more still prefers
CD when they want serious listening (even though they have vinyl).
Excellent selections. All beautiful pressings.
Thanks for watching
Great video Alex. I have a copy of every one on your list so I was pretty happy. I know this 'best sounding 'list is never ending but I would like to offer up a few more, all on vinyl of course. Tracy Chapman's first release, (Fast Car, Talkin' bout a revolution, etc.), hard to find these days but even the standard Elektra release sounds pretty good. Eric Clapton, 'Pilgrim', first track 'My Father's Eyes' is pretty stunning. Donald Fagen, 'Morph the Cat'. Norah Jones, 'livefromaustintx', Austin City Limits. Jennifer Warnes, 'Famous Blue Raincoat', 20th Anniversary Edition Cisco boxed set. The Very Best of UB40 1980 - 2000 by Simply Vinyl. Cassandra Wilson, 'Glamoured', the first track 'Fragile' just takes your breath away. Jose James, 'Lean on Me'. And last, but not least, Melody Gardot, 'Sunset in the Blue'. Keep up the good work. Cheers, Dave.
I agree with all your choices. I own many on your list. Don’t have the Clapton or UB40 albums. Thank you for watching
A Walk Across The Rooftops - The Blue Nile - an astonishingly lovely sounding recording. I also enjoy Goldfrapp’s The Seventh Tree, Amused To Death by Roger Waters, Scritti Pollitti’s White Bread, Black Beer, and The Visitors by ABBA - which always sounds great on my system
I am only familiar with two of those albums. I guess I have homework to do. Thank you for your input and thank you for watching
Great that you mention several genres of music, especially classical. Some people are just stuck on rock or jazz. So much great music available on lp. For those looking for classical labels, Mercury Living Presence, London(blue back)/Decca are some other labels to look out for. Glad I was hitting the yard/estate sales in the late 80's/early 90's when everyone was dumping vinyl for CDs. If one is into physical media, it is a great time to be buying used CDs.
I agree. CD can give very good sound in a good system. Also, who knows if any out of print favorite albums will ever make it to vinyl.
Analog Productions have been putting out some of the best sounding classical albums. They recently did Beethoven’s 6th symphony that is incredible along with Copelands Appalachian Spring. Beautiful stuff.
I agree that Analogue Productions has many great classical titles. They are all outstanding in sound quality. I also own several classical titles by them.
@@AllAboutAlbums Analog Productions is the best of the best when it comes to re-issuing records. I have many.
Thanks Alex for putting together all these videos. You might not be sharing albums to my taste, I appreciate your time, effort, expertise and humor. Maybe for future unknown albums, why not just take a snap shot of a corner of a picture, saying Carole King's Tapestry, if you had just zoomed on the cat on the cover, that could have been terrific. Also, it took me quite a while to locate your channel as it was just by coincidence I happened to see one and then I forgot what to look for again. Glad that I found it now. Stay safe!
great vid! you should do one for showing off your headphones/earbuds!
Interesting idea. I may use that. Thank you for the suggestion and thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums I'd definitely tune in!!
Great video, thank you. Can I make a couple of polite suggestions? The Oscar Peterson Trio “We Get Requests “ is a wonderful sounding album, available from Acoustic Sounds.
Much more recently, Kirsten Edkins album, “shapes & sound” was recorded entirely in analog at Kevin Gray’s Cohearent Sound studio. I think Kevin Gray is an excellent engineer.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you. I do agree with both of your suggestions. Thank you for watching
Some great picks. I would also include pretty much ANY Dire Straits lp, Nil Lofgrin Live, and Diana Krall's Greatest Hits.
All the Dire Straits sound great on mobile fidelity. If I would only get one it would be “Love Over Gold”. The sonics are stunning. The “Live in Paris” album by Diana Krall is also one of my favorite live albums and the sound is great
Yes - Love Over Gold and Making Movies are superb sounding albums.
A great set of recommendations, even for us streaming heretics! Comfy presentation too! Seeing you love early stereo jazz recordings, I have to mention Chet Baker's September Song album and particularly the song Alone Together. Superbly played and recorded, soooo natural! As my system improves and becomes more revealing, my list of top recordings shrinks, but this one keeps hanging in there.
I do like Chet Baker but haven’t heard that album. I’ll check it out. Also, your comment about fewer top recordings since your system improves is very interesting. I will however warn you that when your system becomes transparent to the source, blemishes will also be revealed. Thank you for your suggestion and thank you for watching
Nice selection, thank you!
Glad to help. Thank you for watching
What is your opinion on the MSFL "One Step" debacle. I do have Abbey Road MSFL that I bought in 1981 when I got my first set of Magnepan MG-1 Improved.
Misleading the public definitely gave them a black eye. They did use the initial digital step to help preserve the fragile original master tape. They should have disclosed their process upfront and this all could have been avoided. However, the sound quality has been very good for the most part. I still buy some of their One Step releases but I have cancelled some of my preorders.
This is a pretty sweet list! I really appreciate you mentioning the mastering engineers. Very overlooked and very important to the sound of any album. I'm a CD guy because I'm poor and don't have space in my apartment for vinyl, so I use my 2nd Japanese pressing of Quincy Jones' album "The Dude." I love Quincy Jones arrangements and Bruce Swedien's acousonic recording technique, and it's the album Jones and Swedien made right before they made Thriller. Swedien once said in an interview that Bernie Grundman was the best mastering engineer ever. I have a few of his Michael Jackson remasters and they sound amazing.
Thank you for your comments. I do agree that mastering engineers have a lot to do with the albums ultimate sound quality. Nothing wrong with collecting CDs. In fact, a video I did about CD collecting is my most popular video. With a good quality CD player, music can still sound glorious(and it doesn’t need to be an SACD). Thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums Absolutely! Keep up the great work. I just picked up an old Akai portable CD player with 2x oversampling and a 16 bit DAC off ebay and it sounds amazing. I had never seen a portable CD player with more than 1 bit DAC and when I listened to it for the first time, it was like hearing music for the first time. CD's are amazing. Especially pre loudness war CD"s
EDIT: Also, I think you forgot to mention Steve Hoffman. Definitely a notable engineer
Thank you Alex for video. I love Beatles (Abbey Road is my No.1) but Harry Belafonte recording is remarkable. Let's continue with this type of recommendations. Like your relaxed polite style.
Thank you for your kind words. That Belafonte recording sounds like “you are there”. I will be glad to make more recommendations in upcoming videos. Thank you for watching
Rubber Soul for me…
Classic!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching.
Great suggestions. Especially like Dire straight and Norah Jones.... BTW Where can i get the painting behind you of 60s style portable audio ( red and gray ) ?? Would look great in my audio room, Thank you
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed. The wall art can be found at: Great Big Canvas and it is Hi-Fi wall art by Clayton Rabo. Thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums Thanks much !
Good video, thanks. As a matter of interest have you ever encountered a turntable that was incapable of replaying 45rpm?!
I have. Cheap models. I had one when I was young
The Living Stereo version of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is incredible. Definitely a stand out in my collection.
I keep saying that I’m going to buy that album but maybe now I will. Thank you
I have about 900 of the RCA shaded dog Living Stereo records and I have that 4 seasons but I prefer Perlman on EMI.
@@andershammer9307 I'm going to have to find that and give it a listen. Hopefully it's not a rare expensive pressing.
Listening to a Living Stereo playlist on Spotify, and even on there the width of Copland's 'Grand Canyon Suite' is more spacious than I thought Spotify could handle. 🤌
I agree with number of your picks! Great stuff. Others I might add: Tango In The Night (Fleetwood Mac), Walking Wounded (Everything But The Girl), Quiet Nights (Diana Krall), Unplugged (Eric Clapton), Hell Freezes Over (The Eagles), Days Of The New (Days Of The New),
Yes. I can only include so many, otherwise the video will be way too long. Your picks are all worthy to be included. Thank you for watching
Not a single one is one of the top 13 of all time, BUT, I don't mind. All great and thanks for the several I didn't know about. Good stuff! Thank you!
There are many worthy great sounding albums but the video can only be so long. I would love to hear your picks. Thank you for watching
Question if you don't mind. First love the video. Dope collection. Is showing album art on UA-cam a clash with copyright laws? I have an idea to showcase the clothing from album art but not sure if youtube will flip a nerve and blast me into oblivion. Appreciate the feedback
That’s a borderline call. Not really sure and don’t want to tell you the wrong thing.
Would the CD versions of these be a close enough experience? I have a decent Vinyl setup, but some of these can be pricey on Vinyl vs CD 💿
If you can get a mobile fidelity CD from the original masters and you have a quality CD player then I think you will be happy with the sound. Thank you for watching
Beautiful video
Gillian welch she is fantastic
When I introduce a friend to Gillian Welch they almost always become a fan. Thank you for watching
I got the 1977 Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's Abbey Road when it was first issued. Plus I have an Apple Record's version of Abbey Road prior to the Mofi version.
How is the sound quality of the MoFi? They don’t always get it right.
@@AllAboutAlbums It's very dymanic compared the Apple version and the disc is much quieter. I have a few records from when Mofi first released their catalog , i.e. Steely Dan's "Katy Lied" and John Klemmer's "Touched"
@@tonyvaldiconza3914 I think Katy Lied is very underrated. Thank you for watching
Thanks for the information
I agree the RCA Living Stereo Gaite Parisienne, but in addition you should have mentioned the significance of this album which cannot
be underestimated. It was one of the very first recordings recorded in stereo (back in 1954), years before the first stereo LP was released. It was recorded direct to 2-track. That being said, the engineers hit it out of the park with this recording.
You are right. I should have brought that up. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching.
The Lee Hazelwood albums on the label Light in the Attic are also pretty good for stereo.
I will check it out. Thank you for watching
I know you can't mention them all, but I'm surprised you didn't suggest Buckingham Nicks Polydor Records Robert Ludwig release. Great recommendations and I have you to thank for turning me on to Nightbird. Outstanding!
I’m glad you enjoyed that album.
I do own the Buckingham Nicks album which is a personal favorite. Chad from Analogue Production tried to get this album recut but apparently the tapes were not in good shape. Thank you for watching
Just discovered you, and just subbed
My go to albums (for sound) are;
Abbey Road - Beatles
Crime of the Century - Supertramp
Dark Side - Pink Floyd
Stealing Fire - Bruce Cockburn
To the Bone - Steven Wilson
I agree with all those choices. I’m glad there are other fans of Bruce Cockburn. Thanks for your input and thanks for subscribing.
The only thing I would like to say is the Doors, all there albums were recorded and engineered Great. They sounded great when I bought them in the late 60s to early 70s.i had great equipment no young guys owned at the time.Their albums sound excellent and you really can save your money and not buy a rather expensive mofi recordings .But I do like your channel, keep up the great job.
What equipment did you have? What year?
Thanks for sharing 👍 God bless you

I like using Linda Ronstadt s work with Nelson Riddle. And Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits.
Great choices! Thank you for watching
I'd add Gus Dudgeon's production with Elton John - Rocket Man is one of the finest stereo arrangements I can think of. But Band on the Run is always my first record to put on, on a new system. The sense of being in the room with the band is like no other record!
I will have to dust off “Band on the Run” and give it a listen. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
Been doing some sorting, weeding out, Deoxiting. Wound up with a Carver C1 with sonic holography, a Phase Linear 400 with fresh White Oak caps, a Marantz turntable, playing thru Polk 10s and Infinity SM150s. Xavier Cougat "Viva Cougat" , Michael Stanley Band, "Heartland", Carla Bonoff, "Wild Heart of the Young", Ralph VonWilliams "Fifth Symphony". When the Wife goes out, I'm cranking up the Theme from The Magnificent Seven and some Mark Knopfler.
Sounds like a good stereo system. Forgot about Carla Bonoff. Saw her back during college. Great voice. I should get out one of her albums and take a listen. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums Her backing musicians were often a who's who of greats. I seem to recall many of them being known as The Section. Baby Don't Go and Gonna Be Mine are two of my faves. Have fun.
I have particular songs I test stereos to -Honeydrippers " I get a thrill". Doobie Bros " you're made that way", Al Dimeola "Elegant Gypsy Suite", Boz Scaggs " harbor lights", sting " fortress around your heart", Joe Jackson " stepping out" , Robert Cray " right next door because of me", Sade - " Maureen", Chicago " hanky panky / lifesaver", steely Dan " black cow", Bruce Springsteen " tenth Avenue Freezeout"
I also have “test” songs when I am listening to new audio equipment. That can help you decide which equipment makes you happy. However, when I listen to music for enjoyment, I always listen to an entire
Sorry… I always listen to an entire album. Thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums Honeydrippers is my go to for testing equipment and equalizing. That song has string bass, the ride cymbal along with the trumpets to get your highs just right, and the layered vocals let you tweak the midrange. From there, I play a UK12inch extended mix of Hall and Oates " one on one", which is a drum machine solo, to make sure I didn't go too crazy with the string bass adjustments, as most of what I'll play will not have string bass. I don't even play that whole thing, just the beginning. Then Harbor Lights has a lot of light and shade, to make sure I didn't emphasize vocals too much, as the vocals on that song go huge suddenly. Then I play " you're made that way" to make sure the overalls sound good. Then top it off with Elegant Gypsy Suite for final check
10th Avenue is the only track that sounds good on that aweful production.
I use Edgar Winter's Frankenstein.. SOUNDS AMAZING 🤩
A really underrated album. Thank you for watching

Bitches brew - Miles Davis
Just one of those things - Nat King Cole
Schoolyard ghosts - No Man
Gaudi - Robert Rich
Amused to death - Roger Waters ( mastersound gold cd )
Blue & lonesome - Rolling Stones
Love deluxe - Sade
Nothing like the sun - Sting
Even in the quietest moments - Supertramp

I've got the same grimeys shirt...How ya like the new store?
I was last there when they were transitioning to the new store. I must go back soon.
I'll say there are a lot of great sounding albums. I'll throw out three for you to consider. This one is older, a bit hard to find, It's Immaterial - Song. Amazing sounding album for 1990. Second, this one is new, and it really surprised me, considering the Artist has been a bit lazy, in my opinion, lately with his albums, it is Morrissey - I Am not a dog On A Chain. Third, Stefano Guzzetti - Lumen. These will definitely show off your stereo system I'd put these all on great albums for headphones too that you did awhile back. (Also, got to agree with What's Going On, that album will make you cry it so brilliant)
More great suggestions. I think I will be busy for a while. Thank you for watching
Thank you!!!❤
No problem
Norman Granz, Pablo label, has some really great recordings, too.
Thank you for the info. I’ll check it out. Thank you for watching
Any Steely Dan album will do the trick
Most are great since they were a band that cared a lot about sound quality. There is a audiophile “Gaucho” album. Sounds amazin
Seconded - I’d also add Donald Fagen’s The Nightfly to the list.
Thirded. Royal Scam, Aja or Gaucho.
I like Heljira Joni Mitchell best
100%
My go-to for all things volume related has always been The Jeff Beck Group, Goin' Down.
Ok. Thank you. I’ll check it out. Thank you for watching
It hurt my ears when you called my first and favorite jazz album "Out of Time" instead of the actual title "Time Out".
Sorry. I knew I did that and didn’t want to redo entire video to correct. I guess I was thinking of REM album
@@AllAboutAlbums
For the record, it’s never wrong to think of R.E.M.
1st album i always put on whenever i get a new peice of equipment is darkside of the moon by pink floyd.
Then usually war of the worlds the 1978 musical version. After that its looser
Typical favourites might be songs in the key of life stevie wonder, live at leeds the who, boston by boston, eldorado by the elo, mirage by camel time out dave brubeck. Beach boys let sounds (well yes) the beatles revolver (my copy is in mono so how good that's gonna be with stereo idk but it is my fave album of theirs)
Tame impala currents and mgmt congratulations are there to bring us into this century (i must say congratulations is a great album at least in my opinion)
Thank you for the info. I will check out the titles I’m less familiar with. Thanks for watching. I’m glad there is another camel fan out there.
I'm going to give the Harry Belafonte another shot. Thanks for the list.
I hope you enjoy. Thank you for watching.[
I enjoyed your video so much that I will forgive you that you referred to the Dire Straits frontman as “Mike” Knophler. lol. Liked and subscribed. 👍🏼
Sorry about that. There are always slip ups. Thanks for subscribing
Isn’t it “ Knopfler”?
@@jackwezesa1081 : Yes it is.
I watched this hoping to see Steely Dans Aja album. At the end he holds up an album of Dire Straits Brothers in Arms. A truly great CD. As he says it’s a triple D recording, all digital. Why would you have an album of this? Also, he is correct, stereo shops played this a lot in the 80s. Always the CD version!
Interesting about the Beach boys album, none of them played on that album. It was all session musicians. They had a name for them that escapes me right now, but they were responsible for a lot of great music that we all think was someone else. Thank you.
I saw a group of musicians that toured the country maybe 5 years ago. I think they were called something like “The Hit Men”. They all played on other artists studio albums or toured with them and even have some songs they co-wrote. Makes you wonder. Thanks for the comments and thank you for watching
The Wrecking Crew.

Hi just found your video tonight and really enjoyed it so I've subscribed, my choice for great sounding albums is any Santana albums they all seem to sound amazing.
Santana is one of several bands that typically have good sound. Certain artists care about the sound quality of their recording. Steely Dan was another band caring about their sound. Thank you for watching
T Bone Burnett made MANY and produced many more GREAT Albums. Proof Thru the Night fantastic fidelity INCREDIBLE.
my shout would be the colour of spring or laughing stock by Talk Talk. of course there's the classic Hi Fi tester - the Nightfly by Donald Fagen
All are great choices. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
Nightfly is too bright (IMO)
Frank zappa recorded some great stuff, diana krall. Unlimited orchestra by the league. Black sabbath first album. B52s.. Robbie and sly anything, all great recordings, fleetwood mac, a good copy of early pink floyd.. Brubeck, Stan getz quartet records, chet baker, John coltrane albums, free wheeling bob dylan.. I have always thought that decent jazz sounds better through valve amps with transmission line speakers like imf tls 50.. Amazing what sound you can get for reasonable money.. Love valve amps because you can still buy nos valves for the pre and power stages of your amp to get the sound that matches your speakers. We are all chasing the point of closing our eyes and get the feeling we have the band in the room with us..
I hear you and agree with you about valve amps. I have used tubes for the past 15 years and the sound is glorious.
There are many other great sounding albums that I could not mention in the time of a reasonable length video. Jazz albums do typically have better sound than a standard pop or rock album. Likely related to the folks buying those albums being more critical in their purchase. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
Thank you for bringing me Eva Cassidy
It’s a pleasure to do. It’s what I love to do. Thank you for watching
Totally agree about “Abbey Road”.
Love the album. A true classic and an album I never tire playing. Thank you for watching
Hmmn, Carole King and Fleetwood Mac? Guessing here. I'm playing LA Woman right now. Got given an old Cambridge A1 amp and it's noticeably improved my sound. Need a phono preamp now though.
Phono amp makes a difference but I find the phono cartridge to be more key to the sound. Thank you for watching
if you want to use generic cd's i'd recommend Willie Nelson's Countryman (the harder they come especially) or No Doubt's Rock Steady or the break in Queens get down make love if that doesnt sound like a rip in the fabric of the universe turn it louder ! Oh and neneh cherry's Manchild if not the others.
Time out thanks for video Brubeck and Desmond kill it!
Love that album. Same year as “Kind of Blue”. Thank you for watching
Supertramp's Breakfast In America - Mobile Fidelity pressing is probably the best sounding Vinyl I've heard to my ears!
I have not heard that pressing. I will an eye out for that album. I can remember seeing Supertramp during that concert tour and it was great. Thank you for watching
Have you heard - Mobile Fidelity pressing of "Crime of the Century" it's probably the best sounding Vinyl I've heard to my ears!
I would definitely add some Steely Dan such as Aja and Dire Straits such as Love Over Gold
I sure do agree with Love Over Gold. My problem with Aja is a personal one. When you went into stereo shops in late 70s and 80s, Aja was only album being played. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
Cat Stevens albums, great acoustics also.
The original Island label albums do sound great but I think the Analogue Production pressing is even better. Thank you for watching
Roxy Music - Avalon
Toto IV
Peter Gabriel - So
Tears For Fears - The Seeds Of Love
Love all of those choices. Thank you for the list and thank you for watching
Just curious, all other things being equal, why would you get mono instead of stereo?
Most audiophiles would argue that you should listen to the album as it was recorded. So, if the artist intended a mono recording, then that’s the way you should listen. I’m not saying that is correct, just how some listeners feel. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching
David Crosby's solo debut album, "If I Could Only Remember My Name." is a perfect choice to impress friends! There's a 180g 45RPM SuperVinyl 2LP pressing, a 50th Anniversary edition, a color vinyl, the original Atlantic Records Monarch Pressing and others. I prefer the Monarch Pressing.
Thank you. That information is very helpful. Thank you for watching
This episode may or may not be a good place to start. Or perhaps an idea for a new episode topic, have you got a list of “headphone” albums? Albums that have a lot of things flying around in stereo. Sgt Pepper is an obvious choice. Many Pink Floyd and especially Roger Waters’ Amused to Death is a great headphone album. Queensryche Operation Mindcrime.
I like to blow my 10 year olds mind with cool stereo effects on a recording.
Have you got a list of headphone Albums?
I think that’s a great idea but I mostly listen to headphones on the go so I don’t listen carefully to the music. Can’t promise. Thank you for the idea.
Oooh! Gotta get that Ella and Louis album!
One of my favorites. It should blow you away. Thank you for watching
@@AllAboutAlbums Lucky enough to see Ella, Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass on their Pablo Records Tour in 1976-77?
@@bigdaddystinkeye Unfortunately no. Was into rock/progressive rock at that time.
Blood Sweat and Tears Debut album sounds fantastic
I agree. Probably their best album. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
There's the "Stereo Action" series by RCA, dubbed "the sound your eyes can follow", which isn't an exaggeration. The instruments keep moving from side to side, and I think those are the best records to show off the capabilities of a stereo system. I particularly like "Latin-Esque" by Esquivel And His Orchestra, from 1962. Highly recommended.
Thank you for the information. I will check it out
@@AllAboutAlbums Unless that kind of music isn't your thing, I'm sure you'll enjoy "Latin-Esque" a lot. Now, speaking of "regular" albums (since the Stereo Action series was created with demonstration purposes in mind), I think one of the very best productions in popular music is Supertramp's "Crime Of The Century". The production is simply incredible. In fact, that album has never been a favorite to play in the car because of its wide dynamic range (for a rock/pop album).
Also, I can tell for sure that Fleetwood Mac's isn't precisely the kind of music I like to listen to the most, but the production values of "Rumours" made me fall deeply in love with that album. I have the 2x45 RPM 2011 reissue mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, and it's really awesome.
So glad to see Sea Change on here. Fantastic album! Ummm... also it's $600 on ebay.
It’s a great album but not worth $600. Thank you for watching
As a digital streaming believer, all this sounds otherworldly to me. Interesting though. Dark side of the moon, Remastered?

The Beck LP is great sounding. Unfortunately the Mofi pressing goes for ridiculously high sums now. Out of interest, what turntables don’t have the ability to play 45s?
That statement has apparently bothered several viewers. My first turntable was rather cheap(age of 12). It would automatically bring the tonearm down only at the outer margin of the turntable. It could not play any 45rpm singles. Thank you for watching
Dire straits - 0n Every Street
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me
Sparklehorse, their albums tend to be well recorded and filled with nice snare sounds
Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates
That Bruebeck album is great for people who don’t like jazz too
I love all of those albums and they easily could be part of my suggestions. Thank you for watching
Geffen also put out some high quality stuff.
Yes. I agree. A lot of good recordings can be found by great recording engineers. Thank you for watching
is taht guitar small or really far away ?
It is a replica of John Lennon’s guitar obviously in miniature. Thank you for watching
Interesting.
Very insightful video - personal musical taste notwithstanding. However, I do have a bone to pick with you regarding the mastering engineer segment.
I'm a veteran recording engineer that has worked with most of the mastering engineers that you mention, and I agree that they are the best in their fields - truly master craftsmen - and I don't want to diminish their importance. However, the reason an album sounds as good or as bad as it does is not because of the mastering engineer but because of the RECORDING ENGINEER. A mastering engineer will spend perhaps one or 2 days on your record whereas the recording engineer (along with the producer and artist) will spend weeks, months and even years creating the sonic experience that you enjoy as the final product. In my experience (30 years) a great mastering session will add perhaps 10 to 15% to a final product, whereas poor mastering can destroy what everyone has spent so much time creating.
Adding some final eq and perhaps compression doesn't transform an inferior recording into a great recording. Mastering will not "create" something that is not already on the master tapes that are sent to them. The final musical and sonic enjoyment of the music is the result of the hard work, dedication and creative ability of the band, producer and RECORDING ENGINEER.
Well said. Cannot argue with that. Thank you for your insightful comments and thank you for watching
Thank you also. Perhaps you could explain/expound on this issue on your channel. The public in general doesn't seem to understand. @@AllAboutAlbums
Gordot album is great. Good call on that one.

I totally agree. A great recording. Thank you for pointing that out and thank you for watching
Which Gillian Welch album is that?
It’s “The Harrow and the Harvest”. On Acony label. Sounds like the guitars are in the room with you. Great Americana album. Thank you for watching
Sea Change is a MASTERPIECE 😎
I totally agree. I’m glad I have it on MoFi. Thank you for watching
@All About Albums the DGC reissue is thought by some on SHF to be from the same metal work AS the MoFi and, if it's not, it's supposed to be indistinguishable. I have the 2016 DGC and it's without a doubt one of the greatest sounding albums in my collection.
Nice collection. I tried to show off my collection but I don't I don't have any friends or living family.
That’s a shame. Always a good time to make a new friend. Thank you for watching
Time for a listening party w new friends. See if their are any music appreciation or stereo buying meetups in your area. If not , just imagine them and be glad they aren’t interrupting the music!
Very pleased to find Eva Cassidy in your recommendations. Have you heard the latest album, I Can Only Be Me, which is available on 45 rpm vinyl? I believe it is comparable to any effort by Adel, making it in my mind Eva's Royal Albert Hall moment - something which unfortunately will only happen in dreams.-
Yes, I’ve seen the album but haven’t listened to it yet. They did something similar with The Carpenters a year or two ago. Thank you for watching
Thanks for the music tips.
Glad to b of help. Thank you for watching
A few choices from me would be Depeche Mode's Violator, this LP is one of the best produced for me, ok next Madonna's Ray of Light absolutely fucken awsome sounds digital bleeps n squeaks, Nanci Griffith Lone Star State of Mind, Tracy Chapman, Tracey Thorn all of albums, more recent Norman Fucken Rockwell from Lana, she produced this album especially for LP, Dylan RNRW's, TOOM, if you have a Quad System with Q Speakers get Hounds of Love and blast it, anywho cheers keep safe
Thank you for the suggestions. I will check them out. Thank you for watching
If you like Gillian, check out her musical partner---Dave Rawlings Machine.
Yes. They are always together on each others’ projects. He is a master of the guitar. Thanks for input and for watching.
You forgot about Sheffield Labs! Incredibly optimized and well recorded albums!
Yes, you are right. An oversight on my part. Any one of those recordings are very “you are there” sound.Thank you for watching.
@@AllAboutAlbums I use James Newton Howard and Friends which has been said to be the best sounding rock record ever for comparing equipment.
Thank you for the info.
Try to find Dave Grusin Discovered Again and also Michael Ruff! Trust me you'll thank me!
@@Primeanaloggourmet I have 2 copies of Lab 5 Dave Grusin.
To mention those albums and these labels like Analogue Productions, Blue Note, Impex who rely mostly on Kevin Gray or Ryan Smith is disconcerting. Who is Emily Lazar to even worth noting in place of KG, RKS, Doug Sax, and Chris Bellman?...
Lol..lol...
Many viewers have echoed your comments. It was an oversight. I do mention many of these engineers in other videos. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
