Did you really say Bad Company and "lack of experience?" This band was considered one of the first "supergroups" with each of the guys coming from other very successful bands. Paul Rodgers from Free, Boz Burrell from King Crimson, Mick Ralphs from Mott the Hoople and Simon Kirke also from Free. Their debut record was also my first ever cassette tape purchase in 1974.
"Shooting Star" is still their encore number.

Sometimes, a song is just a song; music, one you can sing along to, that is fun and doesn't need to be some technical masterpiece to be enjoyed as a part of one's generation...that 'rotation' that just plays in the background of life and perks up when each of us finds that song that gets them going. Not every song is a 'killer' and just because it's not, does NOT make it a bad song or one that wasn't appreciated as part of an artists' catalogue. Geesh.

Paul Rodgers is an absolute savage behind a microphone. And even when he is fully dressed his voice is nonetheless shirtless. Studies have shown that playing Bad Company in a jungle will cause the trees to grow chest hair. The voice of Paul Rogers has even been shown to induce pregnancy in women who were previously diagnosed as sterile. And yes, that study was peer reviewed.

Lack of experience? They were all established already. Rodgers and Kirke were from Free, Burrell was in King Crimson and Ralphs was in Mott the Hoople. I have to totally disagree with you on this song. Personally, I thought you'd not like the second half since it was mostly jam and kind of improvised lyrics (nothing wrong with that). I would take this over Feel Like Making Love any day which was a step for them starting to go commercial IMO. I was a fan from day one, and IMO then and to this day is that each album was not good as the previous. I know a lot of people LOVE Straight Shooter but if I never hear Shooting Star again, I won't be sad, it's a great song but overplayed. On the other hand I could listen to Can't Get Enough, Bad Company, Rock Steady and Ready for Love an infinite number of times. The debut still had the bluesy swagger they had in Free but then started to lose that with each subsequent album. I know a lot of people will hate me for this, but I am a lifelong Bad Company and Paul Rodgers fan it's how I feel. I feel that Can't Get Enough has that macho swagger and is like a sequel to Free's All Right Now.

I can see how generational attention span is a major issue with classic rock. We were willing to let songs develop - in fact sometimes really we loved it. I can see how younger people would want instant gratification. But if you want to really get into great compositions from that period you need to develop a longer attention span - or smoke lots weed, like we did. LoL :-)

I mean Echos is my favorite Floyd tune and that’s like a 23 minute song that develops beautifully and has no spots where I lose interest, this song “changed gears” more than it “built”. Doing the same thing for 2 minutes isn’t necessarily building, Freebird is a good example of a song that builds where the intensity goes up every time we pass a verse through. I get what you mean and for a lot of younger people sure but here with this song it’s not really a matter of attention span.

I've got to agree with a lot of other people, the first part of the song was essential for it to develop and climax. I grew up listening to Free on the radio and then when they split to Bad Company. Overall I would have to say that I preferred Free but Paul Rodgers voice was a constant between both bands. And it really is a great voice. When he toured with the remnants of Queen my reaction was that they'd probably be blown off the stage by him.
One of my wife's claims to fame is that she went to a Convent School with his sister. I don't know if you believe in coincidence but hard rock? Girls School? Someone is definitely telling us something. And when you take into account the fact that Girlschool's "C'mon, Let's Go" does not build at all, it's a 24 carat banger all the way through it seems like a crime that you haven't played it yet, all three minutes thirty four seconds of it.
On the other hand, Fanny's "Ain't That Peculiar" does build throughout and that song is all the better for it. Chicago were great friends of the band as were many others. With the movie "Fanny: The Right to Rock" just being released you'll want to play them before the bandwagon starts to move.

Am not sure this is a claim to fame…but Paul Rodgers lives just down the road from us here in British Columbia after marrying a local girl years ago. He has a great place on Lake Okanagan..(the lake that has had weird sightings of a creature called Ogopogo…with stories going back to local native bands.). He has had Robert Plant up there and there are regular sightings of him at a few karaoke bars in the area. My understanding is unfortunately…that Paul has had some fairly serious health issues within the last couple of years.

Roger Taylor, Brian May & Paul Rogers. Took a very good song and made it an absolute showstopper. I love B.C. but the power of that drummer & frickin' Brian May made it outstanding. This band has so many killer hard rock tracks to choose from: “Rock Steady,” “Live for the Music,” “Moving On,” “Burning Sky,” “Rock and Roll Fantasy,” and the criminally underrated “Deal with the Preacher.” You can’t go wrong with any of these.
Then, for a more soulful side of the band, you can try “Ready for Love,” “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Simple Man,” or “Silver, Blue, and Gold.” One of my favorites is “Good Loving Gone Bad,” which shows off both the hard driving and soulful aspects of Paul Rodgers vocal abilities equally well.
And for something truly atypical, there’s the ballad “Seagull,” a thoughtful, almost mystical song. I wish they had done more in this vein.
