This is S tier for me and I am a Zep, Floyd, Yes fan. It has everything and the layering and lush production are superb not to mention the vocals. Just a stand out song from my youth. It never gets tiresome.
David Pack is an amazing singer in a vastly underrated band. Not sure what else you may have reviewed by them, but ''You're the Biggest Part of Me'' and ''How Much I Feel'' were radio staples for decades with good reason. You'll love 'em.
So funny you said that because I have always liked Ambrosia, but I have never heard this song.I am loving the psychedelic and funky sound of it! Actually,if I didn't see the name of the band,I would never know this was Ambrosia by the instrumental alone.
When Ambrosia was ready for their first big tour, David Pack's mother insisted he not go until he graduated high school with his class. So young to be so good.
My favorite Ambrosia song. David Pack is a stellar vocalist, also. As a kid listening on AM radio, you could not get the full effect of the layers. As a 60-year-old, I now appreciate it even more.
This was incredible, even on AM car radio during the tumultuous seventies. Caught Ambrosia as an opening act for Genesis in 1979. They were all that, and then some.
Ambrosia was outstanding because they began as a first-rate prog/rock band on their first two albums. They then morphed into a first-rate LA jazz/pop R&B direction. Both were successful incarnations. Superb musicians and vocals.
This was released when I was a Junior in High School. Loved it then and even more now as it reflects the music I grew up with. Never realized how good we had it back in the day.
funny but i always knew it was good and thought it would get better as time went on...got waaay worse. maybe this is why theres so many young reactors and i love it.
This song was released when I was in middle school heading into high school. The memories this song brings now that I'm 60 are so great and sweet. I really miss those days. For me this song surpasses "S" and is a "T".
I don’t say this about many songs. Pink Floyd has a few as do some other bands. I call this song a masterpiece, where everything, lyrics, vocals, harmonies, instruments, and production all come together in a great song. S-tier for me.
Oh my!!! I love, love, love this song. In the ‘70s, I didn’t realize how great it was. In the last few years I realized it was MUCH more than just another late 70s soft rock song. That entire album is reaction worthy!!! This isn’t even the best known song on the album. And fans differ on which song from this album is the best.
For sure. Heard it after many years and took it to my cover band. Everyone was saying they forgot about this one and within two weeks we were playing it out.
I jumped on my phone when I saw the title. One of my favorite songs of all time, probably because of the plaintive, beseeching lyrics sung with perfect authenticity. Loved your reaction and thanks for giving it a go!
My favorite Ambrosia song! Amazing harmonies, full of sadness and longing; very moving, without being saccharin. So much great music came out of the 70s!
What a great song- haven't heard it in so long. Sadly, Ambrosia has been forgotten even though they were amazing. This song is almost 50 years old... 🌹
Ambrosia's debut album is incredible. So many people don't realize that Ambrosia were a progressive rock band before they changed more into a pop/rock, yacht rock band. Check out "Nice, Nice, Very Nice". My favorite Ambrosia song.
I was going to mention this too. "Nice Nice Very Nice" is a phenomenal piece, unlike any of their other well-known tracks. The lyrics were written by author Kurt Vonnegut Jr.! The influence of Alan Parsons is definitely there too. They never returned to a progressive sound like that, but it was definitely fascinating and cool. The Little River Band did something similarly progressive with their first hit "It's a Long Way There."
OMG this gem from 1975 is one I haven't heard in years! I loved this song the first time I heard it. The break (with the strings and guitar) sounds musically very much like "The Thrill Is Gone". Maybe that was a nod to an influence, who knows? David Pack, Ambrosia's lead singer, suffered from hearing loss and as a hearing impaired person myself, I really loved his vocals. Very strong and with lots of emotion. So glad you covered this one!
Yeahhhh…I can remember this as a kid playing on FM radio while i was shooting pool in my parents dark basement. No internet, the world seemed like a bigger place and great music that took you somewhere. Headphone Gold!
Kel8591, 100% correct. In fact, this song reminds me of the haunting beauty of Firefall's Strange Way. Both came out about the same time. ❤❤❤❤❤ to Ambrosia and Firefall!!!
It's the devastating moment when ,intellectually, you know it's over , but emotionally you're not willing to accept that fact. One of the great ,underrated ,70's songs .
I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 70s. Got to hear the best of the 60s, the cornucopia of the 70s and then best of the 80s. This song was so atmospheric, creating a whole mood like Black Water, Holding Back the Years or Baker Street. Emotional impact!
My first and favorite song by Ambrosia. I'm really surprised and thrilled you're checking this one out. Now imagine hearing this on AM radio in the mid 70s. So great!
The "yacht rock" (or "blue-eyed soul") that came a bit later in their career (3rd or 4th album) was where they had the most airplay success, to be sure, but their first couple of albums were very much prog-rock like this. :-)
Now we’re talking! Awesome sounds from Ambrosia. Wishing You Were Here by Chicago is a little bit similar to this. Finally, please listen to Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Elton John.
I went into the military at the end of ‘75 and every song of that summer holds a place in my heart. I think that’s why I consider it an “S” tier piece. Hey, hey, hey It’s Magic, Dance With Me, Send In The Clowns, etc., all big hits of the summer of ‘75 with a flood of memories with each.
It’s about time you guys got to Ambrosia. Their first two albums are amazing. Somewhere I’ve never traveled. Cowboy star. They take you somewhere else! Keep listening.
Alan Parsons is not only involved,, But he also had all four memebers of Ambrosia play on his debut album,, The Alan Parsons Project "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination" (1976)
This is from their first album, and that album is fantastic. It is mostly influenced by progressive rock for sure. "Mama Frog" is a trip and "Time Waits For No One" is also fabulous.
Love Ambrosia, their vocals & harmony SWEET MOTHER!! I was singing along while watching, got SO LOST in the sauce. It took me back to Glee Club in school, our music teacher was the best, she taught us all about harmony so I appreciate it in all songs. More by the band, "How Much I Feel", You're the Only Woman", "Biggest Part of Me" omg all of these are great songs you guys should hit. Thank you for taking me back to 1976, a great time for sure!
I commented on this recently on the Silver video - though other eras are best for other musical genres, I strongly feel that the mid-70s were the peak period for pop music. So much diversity of instrumentation, fantastic musicianship, wonderful production values, and authentic emotional expression.
Totally agree with you! A lot of acoustic instruments flavoring the mix, and not just your normal 6 string guitar and piano. You had harpsichords and dobros and kazoos and dulcimers and chimes and marimbas and flugelhorns and bass saxes and clarinets and oboes. And not just by studio musicians or for-hire orchestra members-- the bands themselves could play these instruments. So much spice and atmosphere!
I’ve frequently commented that mid to late ‘70s was the golden age of top-40 radio. There was never before nor since the same level of quality and diversity in what you could hear at any moment.
Definitely S tier for me. This band started as a prog band and transitioned to more pop by '78 and returned to prog for their final album in '82. The hits are all pure gold, but this album is stunning. Nice Nice Very Nice, and Mama Frog are worth checking out. The latter has a drunken Alan Parsons reciting the Jabberwocky poem in the middle and it's just perfect.
This is S tier for me and I am a Zep, Floyd, Yes fan. It has everything and the layering and lush production are superb not to mention the vocals. Just a stand out song from my youth. It never gets tiresome.
Plus for me it gives me flashback feelings/memories of back then. Some tunes do that to me. Baker Street is another. Alright I’m done rambling 💨
This is Ambrosia's best song in my opinion. They had many good ones.
absolutely agree with you on this -
i like their other songs - but this one is their Grand-Slam !!!
agreed
This is a masterpiece! 🙂
David Pack is an amazing singer in a vastly underrated band. Not sure what else you may have reviewed by them, but ''You're the Biggest Part of Me'' and ''How Much I Feel'' were radio staples for decades with good reason. You'll love 'em.
Being born in 65 in Los Angeles and a Radiohead this was also a staple brother, oh yeah 😁
I believe they may have done "How Much I Feel". Maybe on Patreon. Others will chime in if I am wrong.
gotta add "You're the only Woman" to your reactions list. Has that sick keyboard solo in it. All great songs!
Pop hits for them though they had more soulful tunes like Drink of Water.
There's that overused word again. Have you got anything new in your vocab?
Your the Only Woman and Biggest Part of Me and How Much I Feel should've been first for Ambrosia but glad you got here finally.
So funny you said that because I have always liked Ambrosia, but I have never heard this song.I am loving the psychedelic and funky sound of it! Actually,if I didn't see the name of the band,I would never know this was Ambrosia by the instrumental alone.
makes sense they started with Ambrosia’s first hit to me
This song way outclasses those two.
When Ambrosia was ready for their first big tour, David Pack's mother insisted he not go until he graduated high school with his class. So young to be so good.
That can't be true. Pack graduated from high school in 1970.
My favorite Ambrosia song. David Pack is a stellar vocalist, also. As a kid listening on AM radio, you could not get the full effect of the layers. As a 60-year-old, I now appreciate it even more.
This 65 yr old fan is right there withcha!
How bout Karen Carpenter guys?? Saw her in 74!
I got my first FM radio when I was 12yrs old...👋😏👍
This was incredible, even on AM car radio during the tumultuous seventies. Caught Ambrosia as an opening act for Genesis in 1979. They were all that, and then some.
I saw them open for Doobie Bros in 1978 and I LOVED them. They blew the Doobies out of the water, IMO.
Ambrosia was outstanding because they began as a first-rate prog/rock band on their first two albums. They then morphed into a first-rate LA jazz/pop R&B direction. Both were successful incarnations. Superb musicians and vocals.
This is from the first album.
They and ELO were heavily influenced by the Moody Blues
I have heard them described as a moody blues with punch
This is the one Ambrosia song that consistently makes it onto my playlists. Perfection.
I so enjoy ambrosias music. thanks for reviewin' them
Ambrosia is one of my favorite bands. Some great songs. Great songwriting and musicianship.
Wow, I haven't heard this song in 35 years!! Good pick! 👍
This was released when I was a Junior in High School. Loved it then and even more now as it reflects the music I grew up with. Never realized how good we had it back in the day.
funny but i always knew it was good and thought it would get better as time went on...got waaay worse. maybe this is why theres so many young reactors and i love it.
Hey I was a junior too, man. I couldn't stop listening to it then and I still can't. What a magnificent song.
@@icmman7???
@@suzannek3493 beats me
That mix, that panning, reverb, and layering of the guitar, those backups, that violin, that mix. Fantastic tune!
You two guys are making me feel guilty because I’m thinking we took this great music for granted. Thanks for playing this. ♥️🎶
This song was released when I was in middle school heading into high school. The memories this song brings now that I'm 60 are so great and sweet. I really miss those days. For me this song surpasses "S" and is a "T".

I’ve requested this song, but apparently didn’t sell it well. 😂
You're not lying
Agreed 100%!
I remember listening to this song on the radio, but it really hits differently on headphones.
For sure. Heard it after many years and took it to my cover band. Everyone was saying they forgot about this one and within two weeks we were playing it out.
S tier, just conceptually, musically, and vocally
I jumped on my phone when I saw the title. One of my favorite songs of all time, probably because of the plaintive, beseeching lyrics sung with perfect authenticity. Loved your reaction and thanks for giving it a go!
Ambrosia has some of my Fav songs in my Life!❤
My favorite Ambrosia song! Amazing harmonies, full of sadness and longing; very moving, without being saccharin. So much great music came out of the 70s!
100% Agreed & Roughly commented the same thing.
When an instrument cries ....its so awesome.
Oh heck yeah! Ambrosia is such a great band. Deep dive well worth it.
Dude....that's awesome. Quicksand!! That's exactly what this song does to you. It just sucks you in. Love it!!
What a great song- haven't heard it in so long. Sadly, Ambrosia has been forgotten even though they were amazing. This song is almost 50 years old... 🌹
One of the best songs that i had entirely forgot existed.
YES! This entire album is great.
Now guys - full version of Little River Band - "It's a Long Way There"
I wish they would. If that's not an S tier then give up the rating system.
Masterpiece .
Thanks for this one .
This song is sheer perfection
Great blast from the past. Your knowledge of music is impeccable! ❤
Ambrosia's debut album is incredible. So many people don't realize that Ambrosia were a progressive rock band before they changed more into a pop/rock, yacht rock band. Check out "Nice, Nice, Very Nice". My favorite Ambrosia song.
Add “Drink of Water” to that as well, really not a bad track on the debut album IMO!

Dance With Me George is one the best prog songs of all time.
A lot of people also don't realize that,Nice, nice is based on a lyric from the Kurt Vonnegut book Cats Cradle
Life Beyond LA🙌🎶
We gotta have MORE Ambrosia, it's a must 😍🔥
OMG this gem from 1975 is one I haven't heard in years! I loved this song the first time I heard it. The break (with the strings and guitar) sounds musically very much like "The Thrill Is Gone". I had forgotten about this masterpiece. Thank you. Back in my playlist.
So many memories associated with the song. Thanks guys for making my day DREAMY!!!

I had completely forgotten about this song. Thanks for the great memory!
Kel8591, 100% correct. In fact, this song reminds me of the haunting beauty of Firefall's Strange Way. Both came out about the same time. ❤❤❤❤❤ to Ambrosia and Firefall!!!
So many great songs! Biggest Part of Me is my all time favorite!
So I am 68 years old , and this is easily in my Top Ten songs of ALL TIME !! David Pack is AMAZING !
It's the devastating moment when ,intellectually, you know it's over , but emotionally you're not willing to accept that fact.
One of the great ,underrated ,70's songs .
Exactly!!!! Well said~
Their harmony is so amazing too
I was so lucky to be a teenager in the 70s. Got to hear the best of the 60s, the cornucopia of the 70s and then best of the 80s. This song was so atmospheric, creating a whole mood like Black Water, Holding Back the Years or Baker Street. Emotional impact!
Exactly
That is why I love your reactions to the 70's. I keep holding on to yesterday because I know they are never coming back.
My first and favorite song by Ambrosia. I'm really surprised and thrilled you're checking this one out. Now imagine hearing this on AM radio in the mid 70s. So great!
I always thought Ambrosia was a Yacht Rock band, as only hearing their popular hits on the radio. I thought this song was beautiful.
The "yacht rock" (or "blue-eyed soul") that came a bit later in their career (3rd or 4th album) was where they had the most airplay success, to be sure, but their first couple of albums were very much prog-rock like this. :-)
Please try Drink of Water off the same album, if you haven't already. One of my absolute favorite songs.
It’s something of a masterpiece 😮
How much I feel is amazing.
They played at our high school , before they got popular of course, you could tell even then.
This is a true timeless classic and yes it's S plus tier song. Full Pull
I almost forgot how good the bass is in this.
Wonderful band❤️❤️❤️ Super underrated.
Such an amazing mood to the song. Rips your guts out. One of my faves. Great reaction. 🎉
Gorgeous song!!! My favorite. The singer’s voice is dreamy.
Now we’re talking! Awesome sounds from Ambrosia. Wishing You Were Here by Chicago is a little bit similar to this. Finally, please listen to Someone Saved My Life Tonight by Elton John.
I haven’t listened to this in years. I sincerely forgot how great it is. Thanks guys
Ambrosia was prog rock before they became mainstream. Try some more tracks off that album, stellar stuff.
Nice, Nice, Very Nice is has more of a prog sound. One of my favorites.
And...Somewhere I Never Traveled

You want prog, try Mama Frog from the same album.
Great reaction guys! Thanks!!
IMHO, this song is the peak of yacht rock. It has no peer.
My favorite Ambrosia song!
This song hits differently than it used too. Now I am older and have lost many loved ones.
I had 20+ aunts and uncles, now 2 are left. The large family gatherings are gone as those that are left are scattered across the country
@@ecclesrice9789 Yeah, perhaps that's why we don't live forever, if we did everyone we loved or knew would be dead leaving us alone.
You can't go wrong with Ambrosia. Their music is so soothing.
It’s about time you guys got to Ambrosia. Their first two albums are amazing. Somewhere I’ve never traveled. Cowboy star. They take you somewhere else! Keep listening.
Man that chorus hook always hits me right in the gut.
Saw them last month - was absolutely amazing ❤
This is the perfect "that one that got away" song.
Love how you give it an A+ and then talk it up as an S after that 😂
Ambrosia has many classic hits,, But this particular song has been & will continue to be my favorite by them. ❤
A+ song. Wonderfully made!
Ambrosia gave us great music and continues today on Yacht Rock!
This is one of my Top 10 songs of all time. It's easily an "S" tier song in my opinion.
Thanks for bringing S tier commentary. More please
This is one of my all time favorite tunes. The musicianship is on another level. Vocals are pretty damn good, too. Great choice gentlemen
Haven't heard this ages. Great track!
I forgot how much I like this gem.
The violin and harmonization towards the end really puts this song on another level.
Alan Parsons is not only involved,, But he also had all four memebers of Ambrosia play on his debut album,, The Alan Parsons Project "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination" (1976)
Fall of '75. David pack, on lead vocals. -----------Fantastic song, even better in concert ! ----------------MJL, 77 y/o
I saw Ambrosia in 1978 when they opened for Foreigner. Great concert when both bands were just starting to make waves.
I’m 60 years old and have never heard this song. Loved it. Thanks, gentlemen.
Im 60 and I actually forgot about it! Great song!
Watched this twice just to hear the song again❤
Same.
I LOVE David Pack and every song he ever sang ~
I can’t believe I forgot about this song! ❤

This is from their first album, and that album is fantastic. It is mostly influenced by progressive rock for sure. "Mama Frog" is a trip and "Time Waits For No One" is also fabulous.

I forgot how good this is. Great pick
My favorite song of theirs.

Surprised no one has covered this song….its a great tune
Perfect song, absolutely
They lived in my town, we all went to the same High School . Their older but they have some other songs that are great too ! 💞
