@@FreedomAndPeaceOnly Hero is an actual job in many media nowadays. You must be living in your mother's basement to nitpick such a non-consequential point.
To be fair, that video is actually a good overview of the different jobs. It's literally one of his most informative videos if you just want to get an idea before deciding what to play. But, people shouldn't learn from his "Basically" series.
I really like how with most Jobs he at first is like "Kinda dumb", but when he sees the Combos and Gameplay, he's like "ok, thats badass". Which tbh, I really relate to the second part, leveling up and unreveling a Job's gameplay it's just so good, even better when you start doing it flawlessly. It's just so satisfying to open up on a Boss as Ninja.
I've been playing ninja for a while, but I'm still in stormblood so it's not like I'm super good. I've noticed that I can't quite fit double weaves in because of his speed buff... is this bad? Am I supposed to be double weaving or is that normal? I can't remember the names of his moves, but I'm talking about the move before assassinate and assassinate. I keep trying to double weave that between my combo but my GCD always stops for a slight moment. Am I just not doing it fast enough or is this normal for ninja?
@@danm2084 this might be related to your ping. Generally, if you have a faster global cooldown, you have less time to execute off global cooldowns. (If that makes sense) Try single weaving (one ogcd) instead of double weaving (two ogcds)
@@seidreine ya I've been doing like E (first move in the assassinate combo) then second GCD combo move, then assassinate, then the final move of the GCD combo lol I really need to memorize the names of these moves. I was just wondering if I SHOULD be able to double weave with ninja or if it's impossible for everyone cuz of his GCD reduction.
@@danm2084 yeah, there's an animation lock on dream within a dream, the move that procs assassinate, so try to space that out with another offglobal instead
@@danm2084 Single weaving is the right thing to do as Ninja. There is a small exception if you're minmaxing your dps with potions, since they take up ogcd space, but outside of that it's all single weaving because of the speed buff. GCD makes up a big chunk of your damage over the course of a fight and increases your ninki gauge, so you want to keep it going as often as possible (but if you have to move away from the boss, avoid using throwing dagger if it's going to kill your combo or waste bunshin charges). Also, don't rush to use assassinate as soon as it's ready - technically it doesn't have a cooldown of its own, since it's tied to "dream within a dream" which is a 60 second cooldown, so it's okay to delay it as long as you use it within 15 seconds after it's ready (or, preferably, before your trick attack debuff runs out). This is especially important since assassinate immobilizes you for the whole animation, and can result in death if used at a bad time.
Currently scholar is really dumb unless you like things such as: masochism or like putting in twice the effort just to reach the same results coming from a 6 year sch main we are not what we used to be
@@zym6687 Sch are in a tough spot right now, they're great off healers but... The changes haven't been good. Sch are very much looking forward to ShB and for good reason
There's also two new jobs coming out in Endwalker: Sage, a shield healer, and Reaper, a melee DPS. They're revamping the healers to fall under two categories--direct heals and shield heals; Sage and Scholar will be shield healers (like Disc priest) while Astrologian and White Mage will be direct heals (like Holy priest). Reaper is KIND of a pet class but not quite; it has phases where you do scythe attacks and call your spectre out for attacks, and a phase where you let your spectre possess you for a heavy nuke phase, as I understand it.
that healer spec split is actually pretty interesting. I dont play FF xiv myself, but i can see this affect how you building team comp if maybe there is a class that prefer being on low Hp, the shield healer can act as a safety net.
@@GranMaj IIRC they want to set it up so most Full Party stuff (trials, raids, and Alliance Raids) will have one direct healer and one shield healer, so they can develop the healers along their specialty instead of having to take half-measures just in case your group ends up with two shield healers or two direct healers.

A point Larry didn't make about dancer, when you finish those dances you get a huge ridiculously powerful move that annihilates everything around you. It's fast, it's fun, and the reliance on rng is there but you never feel terribly weak if you don't get it because those big massive hitting moves are all deliberate player initiated events. No rng to the big badass hits.
@@PaziPazzo not really, quadruple technical step is very strong but it's less than half of a melee lb, standard isnt close. if standard was doing 400k damage every 15 seconds dancer would be top dps by a mile and a half
@@LilithSoul4 I never said to compare it to melee lb3 :v standard step does half of ranged lb1, it's not SUPER impressive, but having something that does enough damage to compare to skills using team resource is still respectable on its own
Fun little tidbit about Summoner and Scholar, they are the only jobs that share EXP, so if you get a Summoner to 50-80, Scholar instantly becomes that level as well, you just have to go through the process of playing through the job questline for Scholar to get all the spells/skills each quest offers and getting the gear for them
Before I forget, however, you have to have unlocked Scholar first in order for that to happen which can be unlocked in the same area you picked up Summoner
@@nickeyd.659 yep. Since the class lvl is tied to the base class and this is the only class that has a split Soul stone option they both level at the same time. It's cool having a lvl 80 healer and never once actually played as one.

Thank you for AT LAST explaining the “all jobs on one character” thing to your chat. You would hear the most tryhard complaints from WoW players about that capability “being stupid”. The only thing that’s stupid, is the person unable to wrap their head around how this is a good thing, and their retorts don’t even make any sense.
There are pros and cons to each system: WoW has a more gameplay focused race/character system while FFXIV has an aesthetics focused race system. While it has almost no impact in FFIXV, it’s incredibly impactful in WoW. An undead warrior, for example, can shrug off CCs then charge a good distance towards their opponents, making fleeing almost impossible against them. A goblin hunter can use their rockets to fly away and pair it with their back step to get even more air time, making fleeing and fall damage both trivial. But the downsides, in my opinion, far outweigh any RP or gameplay bonus. Because you’d have to start a new character or fork over exuberant amounts of cash to get different race/class combinations, choosing your character for their bonuses can feel like a gamble for new players considering you have no idea if you’ll ever use the undead’s cannibalize ability when you have the ability to create food as a wizard. Not even to mention, because they’re linked to gameplay in a rather massive way, high end play is going to prioritize those who either lucked into the right race and class combo, looked up the meta before they started or started an entirely new character specifically for the bonuses. It means that high end play isn’t even just locked by class anymore, but now what your character looks like. I haven’t even touched on having to repeat content every time you want to try a different gameplay style for the _CLASSES._ To be frank, I don’t consider “I want my character to look this way” to be much of a pro for FFXIV’s system. Customizing’s fine and it definitely has WoW beat there, but it’s never been terribly high on my list of priorities. That said, FFXIV doesn’t really have any cons but it also has fewer pros. Not having to worry about classes or race stats makes early game a stress free time because you don’t feel like you’re missing out or could be missing out. The story’s length and the fact that every single expansion is relevant necessitates using one character for your entire playthrough else you miss out on story or repeat unknowable lengths of nonsense, and your character actually being a character in lore, combined with the fact that they’re the only warrior of light instead of one of any number of race and class combinations and your meticulous care in creating them specifically helps your attachment to them increase an absurd amount. It’s why I can’t personally stomach using a Fantasia. I feel like WoW’s system is salvageable with some tweaks. Maybe if they could either have a set of bonuses you choose from instead of a set bonus per race could help, or even free and easy race/class swaps. Though if we’re talking pure rp purposes, not much can be done while preserving race identity except allowing class switching. There’s no reason a man who’s saved the world, literally, at least a dozen times can’t try swinging a sword instead of casting spells. All in all, if I had to rate them in regards to race/class combinations and the whachamahoosits, I’d give FFXIV an 8/10 and WoW a 4/10. Too expensive to not be a scam.
Monk: Asmon: “why would you punch something if you could literally use a weapon?” Me: why would you use a weapon when you could literally punch something to death? :D
No u r just justifying the wrong here in fantasy world where there big monsters and gods punching something is the dumbest thing ever I always find that the biggest hole in most rpg who let characters use fists it just so dumb, weapons are much cooler then stupid fists, u can't compare a dragoon spear to fists or a giant ass sword to fist all of those are cooler then stupid fists
@@john_7000 most games justify the power of Monks in some way or another, and many have their own advantages. In D&d, for example, Ki buffs their speed in such a way that they become the fastest class in the game. In Final Fantasy XIV you can clearly say they have a ton of magic going on behind the scenes of every punch they throw, they're not so different from a Black Mage or Summoner in that sense, if not for the fact that they are 500% faster and stronger, while not being as magically powerful.
I mean let's be honest here. The game is quite a solid MMO. which definitely can compete with wow, EVEN when wow was at its best. And now that wow's not even close to its best, It's taking the lead. Honestly, SE deserves it. They're passionate about their game and they're listening to their community and care about them. They deserve all these hype trains and people giving the game a go and more and more new players joining the game.
FF is easily the best-made game I’ve ever played. My first 2,000 hours in game flew by. Just unfortunate that we’ve been in a major content drought (mostly due to covid) with only one new savage tier in the past year and no new ultimate in 2 years. I haven’t had a reason to log in for a while but I’m patiently awaiting new end game content as always.
@@sadrobot5501 Oh don't worry, we do lol That's why I think a lot of people have a high appreciation for FF14 because it's one of the few titles where they've been consistently good and that's largely due to the *dev team* in particular, not SE. SE seems to largely keep out of their way (along with not giving them a decent budget at times, lbr) and they just do the best they can and it shows in their work.
@@paulogaspar8295 to each their own! The amazing social aspect of endgame raiding brought me back to FF for over 3,000 hours after I finished the main story. No other game has kept me logging in for so long.

As someone who has played wow since vanilla it pains me to say this. But this shit looks awesome. I was open mouthed watching this. Every single tank dps and healer made me want to play it. I don't know why I found it funny but when the summoner used phoenix and Asmon said that's Moltres I choked on my drink. Hope you have a good time in XIV.
It's funny because Asmongold, when seeing DRG or Ninja, is like: "Nah man, too complicated, next" And then he sees Black Mage and goes: "I could try this" My sweet summer child... haha
Honestly, the rotation isn't that hard if you stand still. The real skill comes in when you have to move without stopping your DPS and that's why BLM's are a meme. This is just for people browsing the comments because if you really play Black Mage, you already know this :D
@@fluffyfang4213 To be fair, it's not "that" hard, but that does not mean much. For you, for me, maybe that statement is true, for someone else, maybe not, that's subjective. Then, there is some RNG involved, some optimization, different windows of opportunities based on spellspeed, and, as you said, everything changes based on the fight. So in actual situations, it is a difficult class to play, at the very very least, comparatively to other FF XIV classes, in a context that makes sense to judge it.
@@fluffyfang4213 funny thing is being blm main, i found out that the easiest way to learn a fight is playing blm. It forces you to learn positions and timing. Most dps jobs can let you dodge easy and with all that dodging, it takes time to really learn the fight. Only drawback is that because blm is the worst in movement, you die a lot during those first time runs. 😂
I have been maining BLM since I've started, I fucking looove the feeling when you are left alone doing your full opener. On the other hand, any amount of movement is pain, I don't grind many fights so I'm mostly a first timer on bosses and that is pain.
My way of choosing a class in FFXIV was literally just since Red Mage came out, I bought the game during Stormblood. The class I chose before was just to get me to level 50. Best way to choose a char :)
I’m starting ff14 tomorrow, and I’m stoked. I’m leaning toward playing Rogue/Ninja as my first “main” class. I’m so stoked, but also nervous. Cuz I know a lot of content is team based, and I always feel so bad for my team, when/if I mess up tbh😅😂 either way, I’m stoked to play
@@SupremeLoui yep. Started as a sprout Drg/Nin player who had no clue wtf I was doing. And nowadays I’m a Gunbreaker main, who runs savages pretty often. Never stopped playing 🙂
Honestly, I absolutely *love* playing a Red Mage, so much so that it's my preferred go-to Job. And because of it's Dualcast ability, it's arguably even better at reviving multiple downed allies quicker than even a dedicated healer. I literally had a moment as a Red Mage where I was able to revive 5 of my 6 downed allies (out of an 8-man party, and the only other surviving party member was incapable of reviving allies, as they were a Bard. My team had lost it's Tank, both Healers, and 3 DPS, but I was able to get the Tank, both Healers, and 2 of the 3 DPS back on their feet very quickly) within about 20 seconds, which gave us all time to get to safety before the bosses' big "phase change". There's a damn good reason why a Red Mage is always a welcome addition to any party, since they offer the most overall utility out of any Job in the game. Having a Red Mage around is kinda like having a "safety net", since as long as the Red Mage is standing, they can get downed allies revived very fast (and in so doing, allow the dedicated Healers to conserve their MP & resources for other things). I have, however, begun dabbling in Gunbreaker, as it's a Tank that plays closer to how a DPS does....though Superbolide is something I prefer not to use if I don't have to since it can give the poor healers a heart attack, since it gives 8 seconds of Invulnerability in return for instantly dropping you to 1 HP. The one time I used Superbolide by accident I was very quick to apologize to the Healer and admit that I hit the wrong button. :P And just wait until you get to try out the 24-Man Raids (which split the 24 players into 3 teams of 8 consisting of 1 Tank, 2 Healers, & 5 DPS). My favorite of the 24-man Raids is the third and final Raid from the Stormblood expansion.
They are comedy gold, but I don't think he should now since most of them are from Stormblood or Heavensward, with a lot of outdated abilities and memes that would be confusing to a new player.
black mage is cool when you play one its much more about learning the fight so you know where you can stand the longest uninterrupted (and use aetheric manipulation if you need to move to someone)
Hell yea! Monk's the best melee dps imo. The way he immediately dismissing it like that was pretty stupid. "Why use your fists when u can use a weapon?" Bitch, my body IS the weapon.
Stick with it. It will force you to actually learn the fights. Most dps jobs can dodge easy. But with blackmage and movement restrictions, you actually learn how to position yourself in fights and know the timing of mechanics of bosses faster than most dps because the others are busy dodging rather than focusing on the fight during the first few runs.
@@sarthakarora3212 outside of literally using a stick, Golesh is on the right here: you are not only adding your own strenght on the blow of your weapon, you are also applying the weight of given weapon to the mix (that is, unless you are talking about very thin weapons such as rapiers or daggers, but even then, those weapons are more used for their cutting and penetration potential itself), all of that while giving you additional reach that you would otherwise not get. You could argue that fighting without weapons is feasible against an oponent who has them (heck, look at karate and it's disarm potential against foes wielding a katana), but even then, it just makes more sense using weapons instead, as you can still apply some principles of martial arts in your fighting style while being safer and being able to deal more damage.
You should, i hate being that guy, but it has a free trial going up to level 60 which is the end of the heavensward expansion, so you aren't losing anything by downloading the free trial and trying it
And the majority of these classes are available on it,the only ones that arent are samurai, red mage, dancer, and gunbreaker, as they are stormblood and shadowbringers jobs
@@_Malvar yes but some of the cooler abilities are locked to the higher levels, but it at least gives you enough time to see if the game is for you or not
Samurai is the arms warrior of FF, except you don't get the shouts that buff raids or parties because you pump out the most melee dps. But that also means you're reliant on the raid buff windows from other players to meet dps checks
I rarely see dead dragoons the floor tank memes are from like pre ARR mechs, it's so old. I out dps SAMs and MNK in almost every single thing I queue for. I get it's a running joke but new players picking dragoon might not realize that. That's the only reason I write this - Play DRG confidently!
Old memes really seem to die hard in XIV, such as the idea that Balmung is crawling with the scum of the earth even when it's painfully dated, like the DRG floor tank meme.
@@blueray222 To be fair the whole “dragoon is a floor tank” meme started in XI. What XIV did was solidify it as well as adding dragoons backflipping off stages to their deaths.
Interesting ? I could see that being the case, diverse though ? Not really :S FFXIV is a bit static when it comes to jobs, that's all the jobs there are and they play a very specific way. The rotations are very well fleshed out, but WoW prolly has the edge on variety with about 36 specs with talents to customize gameplay a bit and generally more varied toolkits between the classes. A fun thing though is that gatherer and crafter are also kind of their own classes in FFXIV with their own gear and progression :P
This video has high replayability. WoW player of 16 years and 2015 Ninja main. These animations look amazing. Red Mages ranged attacks, the triple energy buzz saw of Warriors, the RNG & YuGiOh fun of astrologists, Scholars being Scholars (see PFP). This looks amazing. Im trying to get in touch with Square Enix to open my account back up. I want to come back after this video and the raid difficulty hype.
5:57 "Why would you punch something if you could literally use a weapon?" -> Although it doesn't apply for a game, if you look at the fantasy of it, you could lose or not have a weapon on you for whatever reason, while you have your arms in pretty much all reasonable situations. So a monk's power is more personal, and less reliant on external tools. Same is true for most kinds of mages. And many people like the idea of "personal" power like that. If you were living the game instead of playing it, if would be far easier to cripple someone if all the enemy had to do was to remove/damage/destroy the tool you use, especially if you can achieve very comparable power without using an external tool.
In the Summoner part, three pets were mentioned, one for single target, one for aoes, and one that doesn't really do much. It actually kind of provides a defense buff, kind of, but no one really uses it. It's a holdover from when the pets could be hit by the enemies and the defense one was more of a tank in solo play.
I hadn't played the game since 2015; Seeing this video and given the amount of expansions out since i last played i'm going back in boys! Dragoon was at 40-45 when i last played! :D
@@Dharengo Well as your primary duty is tanking I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. If you're trying to be cutting edge, sure obviously, but for general purposes as long as you're not dying and the other things are I normally consider it good enough. Which was my whole thing about GNB not being complicated.
If u read this, this might help you differenciate what Limit Breaks do. LB 1 to 3 as you know are stronger versions, 3 being strongest, thats a given, but the LBs are Kategorized in: Heal LB (all Healers do the same, just look different, this is true for every class/job), Melee-DPS LB (does most Damage, single target), Mage LB (AoE LB in a Circle, less damage then Melee), Ranged-Phys-DPS (AoE in a Straight line, less DMG then Melee) and Tank LB (Hightens defense for everyone). Heal-LB obviously heals the party with the special thing, that LB 3 will instant revive every party-member around him in a wide range + Full heal (and if I remember right full Mana as well since Shadowbringers). Hope that helped a little. LB Gauge will rise through fighting enemies ofc, but there are special things that highten it even more, like healers healing a really low character (I think it was between 10-20%), tanks getting under 30% or so. DPS only highten the gauge through doing crits and general DPS. Also to mention, 4-Player Dungeons only have 2 Gauges and 8-Player (or more) have 3. AND the Gauge is shared by the party. So general rule = DPS does LB, except u expect a wipe cause many players are near death or dead so -> Heal lb 3 or the mechanic of the Boss IS a one shot (as u mentioned urself too) then it's the tanks job.^^ Hope that helps, I'm out :D
The Blue Mage job was probably not mentioned because it is a Limited Job. The Blue Mage is capped at Level 70, and cannot do any daily roulettes, queue up in the Duty Finder without a premade party, or any Main Scenario Quests. BUT, unlike the other jobs, a Blue Mage always has full access to their spells regardless of what level they get synced to. It used to be capped at 50, but it got two major buffs this expansion, and it can participate in the Level 50, 60, and 70 raids, except Ultimate. It's not allowed there.
Astrologian really is based on Yu-Gi-Oh. Originally, the weapon was going to be a duel disk (you can see remnants of the idea as they actually have something similar to the field zone on their hip) and, in the recent expansion, one of our NPC party members switched to Astrologian. Said party member also happens to share his Japanese voice actor with a Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist.
These classes and their abilities seem so much better and fleshed out than any other MMO currently out there. Just shows how much time and effort these devs put into their game compared to others. And especially as a current on-a-break ESO player with its stale, buggy, broken, sometimes underpowered and sometimes overpowered abilites that stay in the game for years with barely any changes.

@@danm2084 this might be related to your ping. Generally, if you have a faster global cooldown, you have less time to execute off global cooldowns. (If that makes sense)
Try single weaving (one ogcd) instead of double weaving (two ogcds)

They're revamping the healers to fall under two categories--direct heals and shield heals; Sage and Scholar will be shield healers (like Disc priest) while Astrologian and White Mage will be direct heals (like Holy priest).
You don't have to worry bout getting stuck in queue because people need your healer alt or someshit. Everything is on 1 character.
It's such a blessing: no need to create alts and do the same quests over and over again!
I haven’t even touched on having to repeat content every time you want to try a different gameplay style for the _CLASSES._
To be frank, I don’t consider “I want my character to look this way” to be much of a pro for FFXIV’s system.
He has chosen the best guide vid in UA-cam nice. 😂

Blizzard earned this that one of their greatest advertisers is now farting back at them by trying a rivaling game.
And just wait until you get to try out the 24-Man Raids (which split the 24 players into 3 teams of 8 consisting of 1 Tank, 2 Healers, & 5 DPS). My favorite of the 24-man Raids is the third and final Raid from the Stormblood expansion.

Like him or Not but he is promoting every Tank Job. Thats nice for all of us with lower Q times
"Wtf? How the fuck does that work?"
Literally the next sentence after the guy explains how it works lol.
I played a dragoon and love the class. Story is sic as well!
Being a main support player, I am glad he thinks they are cool. Since we do control who lives and who dies lol
While creating Dark Knight: Guy #1 - "So, how much edgy are we talking?" Guy #2 - "Yes."
Dragoon: I'm the ultimate edgy job!
Dark Knight: Haha! You are so innocent...
Reaper: So are you.
its wierd seeing asmon excited about something or at least enjoying something compared to how he is with wow, im enjoying the xiv content
It’s really awesome to see asmon having a nice time playing this game. It also seems that it’s growing on chat somewhat as well :)
I main Gunbreaker, have done since Shadowbringers released, till then it was Dark Knight. You'll defo enjoy Dark Knight more I think Asmon.
Monks have fist weapons, not just bare fists. ;)
Asmongold: "Why play a monk when you can't use a sword"
Also Asmongold: "Gunbreakers are ridiculous, I don't want a gun"
pretty good game, needs a butt slider tho

I feel like we just did a season finale crossover with Asmon and Larry. Best buddy comedy ever.
"Why would you punch something if you can use a weapon? Monks are dumb!"
Well... you can equip tonfas as a monk. Checkmate! :p
5:57 "Why would you punch something if you could literally use a weapon?"
-> Although it doesn't apply for a game, if you look at the fantasy of it, you could lose or not have a weapon on you for whatever reason, while you have your arms in pretty much all reasonable situations.
Larry's videos are awesome and really informative. They helped me out a lot when i was first starting off. Cool to see these two worlds collide.
I'm loving how matter of fact Asmongold has been with all his streams, just taking everything as they come and been very patient as a whole.
Monks DO use weapons, actually. It's not pure bare hand.
I love the "man wtf is this.... oh THAT'S COOL" every other class LOL
I’m glad you’re earnestly trying the game. Glad you’re enjoying it
Cool thing is he can level all the classes he likes on his one character
Larry! Yeay! Ty for watching Larry's video! Love Larryzaur
"Why use fists when you can use a weapon?"
Because we can suplex trains.
I understood that reference.
I'm just glad Asmon is enjoying this game as much as he is. It's really fun watching him see things for the first time.
I can't believe Asmon said "the samurai is badass"
I hadn't played the game since 2015; Seeing this video and given the amount of expansions out since i last played i'm going back in boys! Dragoon was at 40-45 when i last played! :D
Have fun rebuilding your action bar because half of your old ones are gone now.
Hearing someone call GNB complicated is hilarious to me.
Yeah, I just picked it up and it seems pretty straight-forward. The only learning curve is knowing which non-GCD abilities to work in and where.
Not to mention, the bulk of the FFXIV community aren't a bunch of try hards that are going to cut a tank for not hitting a certain DPS.
Remember, they come from a game of 3-buttons-roll-your-head-on-keyboard kind of rotation.
@@Tyranastrasza 3? More like 1 and a half.
So general rule = DPS does LB, except u expect a wipe cause many players are near death or dead so -> Heal lb 3 or the mechanic of the Boss IS a one shot (as u mentioned urself too) then it's the tanks job.^^
Hope that helps, I'm out :D
Warrior: Hit me - See what happens. The meme writes itself. 😂
"That is really cool." -Asmongold

"so this is the equivalent of a enhancement shaman in bc" OW, something hurts inside
I don’t play WoW. What’s wrong with the shaman? Is it a meme class?
@@minethyl8284 in almost every wow patch or expansion, enhance shaman is always rebalanced. More often than not the changes are a decrease to damage because the ability more mastery means the attack an hit again, which is kind of hard to balance. enhancement shaman is rather unstable. Some people like it, others like me prefer to play other specs
