What’s up, Lucky ? How ya doing ? Just wanted to say Happy Holidays and I hope you and yours have an amazing one (Wheelman here). Sorry I’ve not been visiting the Twitch in a while. My iPad cord shorted out so I’ve been spending time either on my iPhone or playing Skyrim lately.
This is an awesome guide but u forgot one important thing, where is the glamour guide cuz that is the most important u can't deal damage if u don't look good and other people seeing u doing it
yeah i thought this was a huge flaw in this guide, personally i wouldve bought every product on the mogstore and bought a boost so i could immediately play savages without knowing the mechanics to do the most optimal DPS possible, otherwise pretty good guide though
Lol right? The mitts and acton didn't make me look like a fearsome hero out to kill a foe or two. It made me look like a was going to bake someone a fancy cake.
Side note.. there is one debuff in the game that cannot be removed with esuna, but an emote will. That is the Misery debuff inflicted by the Badmouth ability of Gremlins/Spandules in Gubal and Lost City of Amdapor. It increases damage taken and can be removed with the /comfort emote while standing in melee range of the afflicted player. It's a secret mechanic almost nobody knows
ARR and 3.0 (base Heavensward) is full of these cool janky old school MMO mechanics that although the majority of have been since patched out of the game propper, still exist within the old dungions and in some quests.
@Phoenix for me, i play healer because it feels like im helping people, and that in turn makes me feel better about myself. not very much so when we wipe, though..
One quick clarifying point: Recommended gear only works with gear in your armory chest. Gear in your inventory has to either be manually equipped or moved over to the armory chest first. This can be an issue if you let your armory chest fill up, as anything that won't fit goes into your inventory instead. Also, any gear you craft goes straight into the inventory, not the armory chest.
Also have everything into your inventory cuz it is annoying to manage it in the armoury chest. Also if you dont have the best gear equiped at all times on your main then your an idiot. Side role I can understand but if its your main then your doing it on purpose.
I'm much happier keeping gear in my armory chest. My inventory space is limited enough already. And yeah, I have a gear set with current best gear for each class. I also have a couple gear sets dedicated to specific classes for old ultimates. Oh, & a note on the crafted gear. I found a setting recently to change it to go into your armory instead of your inventory. Not sure if I'd want it to, but I like that the option exists.
@@jdogzerosilverblade299 no it definitely isnt i just startedplaying and have changed no options and crafted stuff goes to the inventory not the armory chest
As someone just getting into this game, it's extremely overwhelming but you have a way of extracting just the right amount of info to make it understandable. Kudos on the guide and thank you :)
One tip I would add is when doing the msq, you might want to have two jobs that you do that with. You get so much xp from the msq quests that you'll eventually will become way higher level than the level requirement for your quests. That means that you'll reach full level with your job way before you reach the end of the msq. From then on doing the msq with a full level job is a waste of a lot of xp. Have two classes that you trade doing the msq with. Start them at close to the same level. Then make sure to switch between jobs before you reach an msq quest with a higher level requirement than the lowest level of those jobs. It's also a good opportunity to learn two different roles early in the game.
It's great to use the MSQ to level a DPS then a healer or tank to queue for MSQ duties like dungeons or trials. When it comes down to it, regular MSQ quests may rarely have you doing anything other than DPSing (which *is* after all the #1 priority for all jobs all the time) so when it comes to learning how to tank and how to heal, most of that is going to happen in dungeons.
Is it too late for me to do this? I play a black mage, and I'm really not enjoying it. But I'm already level 35 (on Xbox, the game is pretty new) I'm not sure what else to pick, but can I do the level 35 MSQ as a level 1 in a different job? Thanks
@@Pussmash It's never too late. You'll need to level a new class up to the same level as the MSQ but it actually can go quite quickly. (1) you will receive an XP boost called the Armoury Bonus. Any job under your highest level job gets double XP on monster kills, FATEs, and Deep Dungeons like Palace of the Dead (have you started that quest yet? It begins in the Carline Canopy, Gridania's inn, and is a decent way to level jobs). (2) You have your hunting log. At low levels, running around killing monsters on your log while you complete FATEs will level you pretty fast, particularly with that Armoury Bonus. (3) Once you get high enough in level (16 is it?) start queueing for dungeons while you run around doing FATEs and hunting logs. What to pick? Doesn't really matter. If you're interested in playing a tank or a healer, now would be a great opportunity since you already have a DPS up to 35. Arcanist can be an interesting choice -- it is the only class that has two jobs (magical DPS Summoner and Shield Healer Scholar) and you level up both at the same time. The thing is, don't be too concerned about slowing down to find a better fit. If you can't decide between two or three, try leveling each up to 35. Get some decent playtime on each, take them into some dungeons, and see how they feel. That's one of the great things about FFXIV -- you can play EVERYTHING on the same character. So take advantage of that. The earlier the better.
Definitely DON'T RUSH THE GAME... I did that trying to catch up with my FC mates and missed so much great content. I am now redoing the whole game over again and enjoying it FAR, FAR more.
@@BladeOpsZ Wellsomething i noticed is there 100% are filler quests that dont even give any funny dialogue or anything just pure work. Its a mixed bag of picking the right side quests fpr sure
Personally im rushing thru all the content cuz I came to play an MMO not a narrative, I also think that the story is only about 10% of the actual experience of the game since there's so much more content. The pacing of the game is also very slow and If it was a free game I might reconsider but if im paying to play the game, im gonna get my moneys worth trying to take advantage of the other 90%
One bit of advice I will add, for everyone under level 50 who's yet to finish the base game of ARR, is to do with what happens between the end of the base game (after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") , and the start of the first Heavenward expansion (when you start the "Coming to Ishgard" quest) Every time one storyline ends, there is a series of quests before the new story/expansion starts, that sets up the foundation for that story. They can be kind of dull, but they end up being worth it when we're more immersed in the new story (instead of just being dropped in a new land, and having strangers demand we save them, we know where we are, how we got here, who we need to save, why we need to save them, and we're attached enough to want to save them) HOWEVER. The post-ARR quests, are the most boring part of the entire MSQ to date. You go from an epic storyline involving gods and devils and conspircies between nations.... To escorting caravans and fighting bandits, like a newbie nobody. However, this is actually on purpose, and while you feel like your talents are being wasted, and miss the epic combat, your character is supposed to feel the exact same way. Once I realised my feelings of boredom were on purpose, I enjoyed that stage of the game's storyline a lot more. And I promise you, it is all worth it in the end, and it never becomes that boring ever again. Every expansions Post-story quests are kinda dull, but they're always important to the upcoming story, and usually still fun and engaging. So push through those BS Post-ARR quests, embrace the feeling of boredom, and reach the Heavenward expansion. It's honestly leagues above the storyline of the base game, and when the game truly opens up.
I'm currently in that portion of the game and I don't agree at all. When Ramuh got summoned and you got called away I still wanted to help that girl find her parents.
I'm currently on the ARR-post quests and literally 2 days ago I kinda took a break from the MSQ to do crafting and other stuff cuz I was finding the MSQ boring just TP'ing around and killing random mobs with not much going on storywise, so I'm glad to know its the lowest point to most people and that will only get better from there.
9:20 you only have to recast your tank stance if you are level synced. This happens because your skills and abilities change, very similar to when you're changing classes.
Exactly this. The syncing process clears all ability-based buffs in order to make it easy to confirm you don't start with any buffs you couldn't have at the target level. Tank stance falls into this category. So basically the habit becomes a little assessment: "Is this dungeon below my current level? I better turn tank stance on!" Technically this also happens with Fates in the open world. As dancer I keep having to put my dance partner buff on my chocobo again every time I sync.
I would suggest _not_ using the recommended gear option if you're a tank. It will slot in the highest ilevel item, which may not even be a piece of tank gear, and you may end up losing a lot of defense, because you're suddenly wearing a leg piece that a tank has no business wearing in a dungeon. Once you get further along in the game this won't matter, as tanks will only be able to equip tank gear. But when you're starting there's a lot of gear tanks can technically equip that they really should not be equipping, certainly not in dungeons.
I was about to say....every class should prioritize IL over stats whether it's leveling or fresh endgame. Tank gear drops are for tanks , etc, just equip what ever is higher level. If your past endgame and are doing raids, you don't need the advise of watching stats
@@maartentops1703 came here to say this. Additionally with a patch in shb the game will prioritize stats i believe 50+ especially if you have materia affixed to your gear now in crafting and gathering gear im pretty sure that it has always prioritizes stats
Something a lot of these types of videos leave out is that the "slow burn" of ARR is a massive understatement. Its nearly 100 hours before the story actually gets good. If you're not invested in the gameplay loop of MMO's going in, you will have an absolutely miserable time and I don't recommend playing at all.
There are two words that finally sold me on this game. I've had friends who have been playing this game since 2.0 and I kept putting it off after bad experiences in WoW. But the thing that sold me.... "Slow Burn" I love me a deep slow progression in story, that takes it's time to build up a world and the characters within it before slowly ramping up into an unbelievable EPIC! The funny thing is, I've been playing the game for almost a year now, and have had so much fun in just that beginning slow burn section I've barely played the main story and have constantly been changing classes so I can do all the low level side quests without worrying about wasting potential XP. I explored pretty much ALL of ARRs overworld while my main combat class was still in the early 20's due to getting both Mining and Botanist to level 50 BEFORE EVEN UNLOCKING THE ABILITY TO GET A MOUNT. Thus allowing me to just walk right past high level mobs without them attacking me. 😂 It's been a blast!
I would really like it if you did a video for beginners on each expansion. I am new and after completing a MSQ of an expansion i just move onto the next expansion. I feel like i'm missing out by not doing other things. It would be very helpful if there where videos that went through each expansion, showing and talking about the individual things that you can do in that expansion.
The most important thing I learned early on was to customize my HUD. I play on a laptop so I needed to maximize my screen real estate. You can move, resize, and change the opacity of every feature from the mini map to buff/debuff bars to the target bar. And you can turn off that inventory grid from the Character menu ;)
You can also do this on ps4 so can see more my suggestion is set up hud in area where no lag and no interuptions . Easy way do this go to inn once lvl 15 + unsync dungeon make sure its good . Once you get higher lvl unlock jobs advanced skill can unsync low lvl 15 dungeon set it up
I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but one mistake I made as a newbie was getting gear from everything!! You do not need to get gear from quest rewards that aren't for your job or class. If you intend to pick up another job, then yes. Get that. But not everything! It overflows your armory chest and starts to overflow your inventory! That makes it more difficult to equip the gear you actually need. Spare yourself. You can always get the gear you need when you go back on another job, I promise!
I will say, "focus on MSQ," yeah I did that through Heavensward and now the side quests don't make as much sense, so maybe do some of the yellow side quests along the way because they play along with the story. I'm not making this mistake again when I go forward with the story. I was already over leveled and I'm leveling up another job to continue the MSQ, and if you get over leveled you can always start a class that starts at level 50, 60, now 70 in later expansions. Some advice I've seen is that this game is 10 years worth of content that's had gaps in between expansions, it's ok to take your time to work through it.
@@redgeoblaze3752 Probably not every player knows, if you go to an Inn in any of the major cities check out the object The Unending Journey. You can watch every single cutscene that came with a quest you've done.
I'm glad to hear as DPS you're supposed to use the limit break in dungeons. Considering I started recently as a Dragoon and have been spamming it as soon as it was up on bosses, and I had NO idea I was taking it for my entire group lol.
best to do is have the % ticked on on boss HP a melee DPS can drop a boss with a full LB at around 5%, But please please never pop LB every time it is full, there are trails later in game and raids that your bar will be full at 3 and is need by tank to mitigate a AOE attack or and yes this will happen, all but 1 tank and 1 healer are left standing Healer can use an LB3 to bring everyone back to life instantly. So mind when you use your LB boss at 5% or less Oh ya POP time drop that sucker.
A quick tidbit about Limit Breaks; Magical DPS is a round AOE, Ranged Phys DPS is a line AOE, and Melee is a Single Target. If you decide to use LBs during packs it is recommended the Magic DPS or Phys Ranged DPS do it, for Bosses MELEE GETS PRIORITY!!! Since more often than not Bosses are single mobs.
Sadly most time a Mage or ranged will pop LB before melee can, happens t me al the time when i am waiting for 5%. this is one of my pet peevs. improper use of LB by jobs.
they would think that but a properly timed LB can end a fight rather then prolong one. or i am waiting for the LB3 to stack and not pop lb at 98% fully stacked making it an LB2 all in al i have seen Mages pop LB3 when there are 3 other4 melee dps in group. waiting for the perfect times hit to end fight with there cool Macro Lbs (i have lots of those) @@duhvidian2369
You have to keep activating your tank stance when you enter a dungeon when you get level synced. For some reason getting level synced turns the tank stance off.
It’s to remove all buffs entirely except sprint for some reason. The others I suppose to start each dungeon with an even footing instead of having longer DPS boosts still active etc
That first part is particularly applicable to me. I'm suuuper guilty of "save my cooldowns!" even though I've been playing a million years and should know better. I'm ESPECIALLY guilty of it on my healers, which is probably the worst case to not be blowing my CDs.
Healers are an exception to the rule because tanks are the ones capable of rotating their mitigations with only like 15-20sec gaps every few minutes. A healer is meant to hold cds to make up the downtime or to make up for mistakes. I'm talking about the 2 or 3 oh-shit buttons that have 2min cds or higher. The perfect example is Rescue. It's perfectly fine to go an entire dungeon without ever using it. Anyone who tells you to pull a tank into more mobs in an effort to "optimize completion speed" is a troll. Same for benediction. Use it in combination with invulns, use it right after rezzing someone, but don't let your tank drop to 5% in a random pull just so you can put in on CD and say to yourself "I've used all the tools at my disposal! I am the superior efficient healer!"
@pointlessmike eh it's not a troll. The only reason I figured out that tanks can handle a lot more than single pulls is when a healer started yanking me into the next groups.
This is the first sprout guide I've seen that told me *why* I would even want to extract materia. Thank you! Everyone else just says that it's something you want to remember to do, but never says why
My first time playing I skipped all the scenarios and sped through the quests. Got to level 43 before I finally realized that I should've paid attention. I decided to make a whole new char and go through it again. It's slow, but definitely important! Finally got through ARR yesterday and then found the gold saucer so I've been spending most of my time their. lol
I was level 49 ish doing Cape Westwind for the first time when a couple players asked me where my soul stone was. oops..... I was the only Archer in the squad :D edit: RIP the meme :c You will be missed. But even though you are no longer with us the stories and memories will live on in our hearts. ❤️
Despite my 5k-ish hours of playtime I genuinely really enjoy watching vids like this still, it feels nostalgic to see people talking about silly mistakes we all used to make haha
I just started playing and am barely level 25, but would be so much worse off without your help. Your guides are EXTREMELY helpful and I had to thank you for all the tips, not just from this vid but from several. You're an awesome individual!
If I may offer some other advice that might benefit you if you haven't reach the first expansion yet After you finish the main story of ARR (aka after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") there will be some very boring quests that slow the pace of the story down to a crawl. This is on purpose! At this point in the story, you are the Warrior of Light, the saviour of Eorzea! You did insane things, saved the world, and now? There's nothing left to do. The land is at peace, you won, and being an war hero during peace times is boring as hell. So don't give up on the game when you reach this point. Push through. The story gets much better from Heaven ward to onwards, n and the space between expansions is never as boring as it was here ever again.
Ahh for the 2nd one yeah just go for what class you feel you'll enjoy, I remember picking summoner pre sbh and my friend said that it was complicated but for me I love pet classes so I ignored that and I enjoyed my class from start to finish
Definitely disagree about doing other things while doing the story. If you're that worried about being overleveled, you just have another class that you're working on as well and just choose whichever character isn't overleveled to play the story. There's enough in the game aside from the story that you definitely shouldn't zero-in on just the story.
one reason tank stance isn't on automatically is because in anything with more than one tank it can be a pain if enmity is constantly switching between tanks, and it can be useful for tank swaps in harder content to turn it on in the middle of a fight, however they could have it turn on automatically in any instance that has only one tank. However the problem with that could be people get too reliant on the game turning it on for you and in the aforementioned content they might not be prepared to use it consciously.
Hide Gear set items was good tip! Sometimes when you have fisher or some another job, it happens so easily that you sell items or gear that belong to another job!
Okay. So in regards to the enmity skill for tanks. The reason that it sometimes stays on and other times it gets turned off; has to do with level sync. If you are a tank going into a piece of content that you do not have to sync down to it will stay on. If you go into a piece of content that you need to be synced down to, then it will be turned off upon entering. My best guess is this has to do with what happens to your skills when you get synced down. It is probably easier to just turn off all of those skills to make sure that the right version is loaded on the hotbar
Yeah, the process is designed to clear all ability-based buffs. From a design perspective I imagine that would be easier than generating a list of specific things to clear that would then have to constantly be updated every time any class got changed or reworked. It's also why things like food don't get affected.
your enmity generator is on by default if you're entering dungeons of your own level if you already have it on before going in, it turns off when you get synced down because the code is not good at decreasing the power of an active buff so it gets rid of all active buffs and Enmity generators are considered a buff.
Use the "Hide Armory Items" instead. Then set your new items to go into inventory instead of the armory chest. That way the trash items in your inventory is all that shows up. The difference is that as you are leveling other jobs you may hang onto a piece of gear that you don't want to sell but is not attached to a particular set yet..
I sorta feel this way, but I don't think it's in an elitist sort of way. The only other MMO I player Star Wars The Old Republic, but honestly, after playing so much of XIV, I don't know if I'll be able to go back.
@@MyGamer125 It's not like that. What I mean is people who scoff at the idea of people enjoying multiple mmos like it's not cool or out of style. What you said is fair, that's your personal experience.
Side note regarding the tomestone vendors... any sprouts reading keep in mind that the tomestone vendors for each expansion pack only unlock once you've completed that expansion's main scenario quest. So if you're like me and tend to overlevel a lot (screw you, Khloe) you might have to stick to dungeon gear until you're done with that expansion.
As a person that is going through the story as a healer as soon as I got the battle chocobo I bought 200 greens to summon him, and I keep him with me as much as possible for that extra damage
Same here. My bird goes everywhere my character goes. I put her on attack mode when playing as a healer. And when needed switch her to healing mode when playing as a DPS. She has saved my Au Ra countless of times. Well worth it ranking your bird up.
Great video! I just started playing FF14 this week and being so late to the party can be overwhelming, but videos like yours really help getting some clarity! Also it's so much fun getting into a new MMO again!
id advise new players to dabble in every job, and main whichever ones theyre most comfortable with. youll do better in a non-meta job youre good at than a meta job you struggle with.
New player here. With my friends (also new) we just recently finished arr. At the last boss fight the tank (random) wrote in chat "LB" and we three were very confused and didn't know what he meant. We then got wiped. After that he told us what it means and was very friendly. I should've watched this video earlier xD
I would actually recommend using “hide armory chest items” instead bc that includes headset items and items you don’t have in a gear set that are in your armory chest. For example if you have multiple weapons for a class and you put hide gear set items, that second weapon may appear and you might sell it by accident!
So…. I just came over to ff14 from ESO. So there’s a lot to take in! This helped me a bunch! Appreciate it bud, I’ll be checking more of your channel soon as I get my head round everything so far. So, maybe like in 3 months….. 😂 This game is soooooo big!
I've started to play on Linux because I swapped all of my computers over to Ubuntu and I started a new account so I could play on Steam through Proton. Experiencing everything again as a new player is so fun and interesting, I love it.
"pick what looks fun, pick what looks cool!" THIS. I did not want to be anywhere near mmos all my life. I thought they were too intricate and already all had player bases of people who were all way better than I'd ever be. And whoever heard of paying for a game monthly? But seeing Shenpai do Fell Cleave on some savage boss... THAT is what made me want FFXIV. Seeing that animation, as well ass the other cool spinny things the warrior does, are what made me start thinking about getting it. And you know what, I love it!
Just picked up FF14 yesterday. I had played very briefly on PS3 way back and forgot everything I had learned then. Just found your videos and it has been a real help! Thanks for all these!
The way I typically like to categorize my cooldowns for trash pulls is as such. Keep in mind I'm doing this under the assumption that the Tank is doing 2 pulls at once cause I'm totally THAT player who expects that from their Tanks: >90 sec CDs: Use on the first pull. By the time these cooldowns are reset, you'll either be nearly complete with your second pull or you'll be at the boss. These are typically the cooldowns that either mow through mobs or keep you alive for a very long time, so use it for the first pull.
I’ve been playing for nearly 10 years and I never noticed the white bar above the debuffs we can ‘Esuna’ until a year ago. Just learned by habit what could and couldn’t be removed. So... yeah.. 😅👍
I have been playing this game super casually for well over 3 or 4 years (maybe 5 whos keeping count) and I had no idea about the healer dispel with the health bar over the icon as a white mage/dragoon main. I just learned by trial and error. I am halfway through Shadowbringers. Thanks for this video and your help. Awesome video some great tips even for people like me who have been playing for a couple years! subscribed and looking forward to new uploads.
Regarding the raising item level is EZ section, there are job quests each time you hit the previous expansion's cap and it gives you the item level gear that is enough to do all of the content at that time. So there isn't much reason to spend poetics on gear for the purpose of item level, just do it for the glamours.
as a new tank just learning that I should drag more than one group of monsters at a time is already something I wasn't thinking of. lots of good information from this video even 2 years later thank you so much :D
Job selection is key, and yes, choose the job you enjoy playing. I used to main Bard, and I've tried them all at least a little bit. Ultimately I've settled on Summoner. Bonus: Leveling Summoner simultaneously levels Scholar. Good tip about gear sets, but take it a step further by putting job sets you use a lot on a hot button. It takes an age, but getting your chocobo to Rank 20 and unlocking all his skills is very useful. He can be set to tank, DPS, or heal, or you can just let him figure out what to do on his own. Adds a lot to everyday game play.
Remember FFXIV is an RPG first, and an MMO second. So I hope you like storytelling! 😃 For the cool downs, remember that dungeons are run generally between 25 to 40 minutes, and are composed, for the most part, of 2 to 3 trash groups between each boss and 3 bosses. So try to pace your abilities accordingly. Might take some getting used to but that’s normal. 😁 Also, regardless of your specific job, everybody is a damage dealer! Yes, even healers. The faster the enemies go down the better it will be for the party. 😋 How you see menus and pop ups on your game screen depends on your HUD disposition. Which you can change to the smallest detail, so be sure to explore your setting options to transform your display to your taste. The Materia extraction option requires completing the level 19 quest to that effect. Just follow the Main Story Quest (MSQ) to find it in Thanalan. Same for the chocobo quest (level 20) in Gridania. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to add a few more tid bits to the very complete and correct video Lucky prepared for us! Thank you Lucky. Stay safe. ❤️
I have around 1.4k hours atm but the storytelling were mostly shit up till later on in heavensward and thats 60 levels which is unacceptable to me. Its needs an overhaul.
@@filips2146 - It does, and it’s getting one, again lol. ARR MSQ has been revised at least twice so far, but it’s true that there is still far too many back and forth going on. I’m currently rushing to finish ARR with my alt before they change it again, as it actually made me lose progress from last time. 😅 At around level 35 there’s a big event, and then the game ignores it for nearly 10 levels and goes back to, ‘help’ quests and go places.... it’s kind of absurd. 😳 The game isn’t perfect, and believe me I’ve been around long enough to know, but going through the trickle is worth it to get to Heavensward and all the follows. 😋 Hope you’re enjoying the game going forward!
@@keiyangoshin3650 I definetly do i have completed endwalker and its a night and day difference between endwalker and arr which is why its sad seeing the new player experience still this bad. @@filips2146 - I’m glad to hear you are having fun! 👍 There’s still lots to do even once you reach the ‘end’ of the current MSQ. As for ARR. One thing I will say for Yoshi P and his team, they keep working to improve the game. They listen to the community. ARR will likely never be ideal, and in spite of its faults it still brings thousands of players to the fold. Two years from now or once you chose to level an alt for fun, you might be pleasantly surprised! 😃 Stay safe!
One crucial tip for beginners : ALWAYS pay attention to the chatbox in dungeons/trials. I'd even recommend to turn on notification sounds for party chat. There are sadly beginners who don't read the chat and do half the dungeon without tank stance or without aoe, yet they don't bother reading the "HEY YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG" being spammed in the chat.
I love implementing my classes to my character on her journey. She was a white mage in ARR but after the events of the Vault in Heavensward ( if you know you know ) she essentially " lost " her abilities to heal and her heart grew dark enough to open itself to Fray thus her journey as a dark knight began
Fantastic guide! I just started playing over the weekend and I knew some of these tips, but others either cleared up things that weren’t explained well in-game or just provided new knowledge. Thank you!

I never use the Materia Extraction ability. I just right click on the pieces of gear and select to extract. I doubt it really saves much time, but I open my Character menu a LOT more than my abilities menu so it's just more natural for me to do it from the Character menu rather than digging through the other menu.
1. As a tank I pull every mob possible before the dungeon stops me because you can maximize DPS from AOEs in those moments. If the healer can keep up you might as well allow the most amount of damage to the most amount of enemies as the dungeon will allow. Nearly all AOE has no limit-max to output due to enemies hit count. 2. Every job is fun. Every job is useful. Every job is rewarding. Choose what looks fun and don't be scared to change later. 3. The story can be a big sloggy but it is great try to avoid skipping AT LEAST cut scenes. 4. Don't forget your side-unlocks, lol I did. 5. Don't fall behind on job quests. Huge, and very class/job important functions, can be locked behind job quests. 6. The "equip best loadout" almost exclusively uses the iLVL to grade gear and below max level this is almost ALWAYS 100% the best choice to wear at any point. You shouldn't be worrying about min/max of stats until end game content anyway. 7. Always AOE at 3+ mob groups. Few exceptions to this rule. Use single target rotations on 1-2 pulls and try to focus on whichever mob has lowest health. 8. I'm going to skip the tank/healer/DPS mistakes and just say this: every class has at least 1 type of damage over time attack. This attack is VERY important to consistent DPS. Don't let this fall off and DON'T overwrite it with a new instance until as low as possible in the run-time on the skill. This also applies to anything that increases other player's damage to the enemy, or damage FROM the enemy/boss prior to a tank buster or room AOE. In short: DoT uptime YES, and damage DOWN before big hits. Great video for sure, cheers mate.
As a WoW refugee these videos have been super helpful! The only thing I would love to know is, for example to get the "Extract Materia" button. Do you have to do a sidequest or does it come with levels? Things like that. It was the same thing when you got your mount, im looking for the button that helps me get flying mounts in areas but I cant find it
To extract materia, you need to complete a lv. 19 quest from The Bonfire, just north of Black Brush in Central Thanalan. To fly in ARR areas, you need to finish ARR. A short while after you reach Heavensward, you will get a story quest that will reward you with an Aether Compass. You can use this item to find aether currents in each area (some aether currents require you to complete certain side quests, mark with the blue + symbol). After unlock all of the aether currents in an area, you will be able to fly in that area. Hope this helps. Also the aether compass does not go into your normal inventory, it is under a different menu called collectibles, I suggest setting it to one of your cross/hot bars to make it easier to find, as you'll use it in each of the expansions.
To use Extract Materia button, you need to wear armor or selected piece certain amount of time and do battle. This is how gear gathers materia in it. If selected item is only inventory and not used, it will not gather materia..
The biggest problem and failure of the majority of mmorpg players in general is logging in with the thought "What do I have to do today." rather than "What do I WANT to do today.".
I'm curious to know what your pros & cons are vs the two games I've been primarily a wow player for over a decade. I tried ESO & loved it Not knowing anyone is why I eventually stopped playing. I've currently been playing ffxiv Just completed endwalker msq & absolutely love the story & game. Out of the 3, I'd say 14, then ESO
@@Schmetterling_Honey I played ESO almost daily for 3 1/2 years. The combat style in ESO is like no other. But ZOS being more worried about pushing crown crates and new content over fix multiple performance issues pushed me away. Everytime they add something, they break something else. 🙄
@@Schmetterling_Honey The pros of eso. You can go anywhere and do any quests at any time. Builds, play style variety, better pvp, Voice acted npcs, decent quest design. Overland content in general is just miles above FF. The fact that all content is viable is probably the biggest thing ESO has over FF. Cons would absolutely be performance, bugs, and crown store. Armor design is also lacking a bit compared to FF. For FFXIV the group content is the main thing it has over ESO. FF has really good raids. The music in FFXIV is also top tier. While the story is fantastic I find it's quest design to be grueling and painfully repetitive. There's also an ungodly amount of filler quests. The linear progression of FF makes new patches of content dry up fast once you hit endgame. Boths games are great and I've been swapping between the two for years now.
@@Schmetterling_Honey ESO doesn't lock content behind questing; this is probably my biggest gripe with 14. It's also why, I think, people rush the MSQ in 14, is cause huge chunks of content, be it group stuff, even menus, are locked until you get to a certain point in the MSQ. ESO has gear sets scattered throughout zones, whereas 14 has them in dungeons. ESO has everything fully voice acted. That's a plus for me over 14, even tho I don't mind reading at all. 14 has far superior group content. I'm assuming this is because SE already has a full blown MMO under their belt, whereas ZOS is trying to cater more to soloers who only play the main games. Both are equally great in my book. It's nice to have two top tier MMO's that I can swap between every six months or so.
For returning players, a good tip is to go over your hotbar if it has been a while and remember what class you currently are. Had to drop my sub for a while and when I came back, I went in to a dungeon, forgetting I was a WhM. I was confused for a second when I saw our Tank's corpse. It didn't even click for the first sets of trash that I had been using Areo as we ran.
This is the single most useful video I have ever watched on ffxiv. Why haven't I seen this before! This would have saved me so much time, and reduced my confusion as a beginning player! Well done, and thank you so much!
Super helpful vid. I just started today and was doing every quest, not just the main quests. I was getting over-leveled and feeling bored. I’ll try sticking to just the main quests for a while and see if that goes better for me.
Truly i felt like ARR was the worst part of the game as a new player. It's the longest slog of any MMO that was never streamlined enough to not want to skip it. All of the expansions are so good, but if i never had to even think about the Waking Shore again i would be a much happier person.
As I've recently got into crafting and want to farm/create all my own stuff rather than buying it - making sure you have gear presets for each job is insanely important. I know it's a simple thing, but i feel some people might overlook it and become very frustrated/overwhelmed. And to add to that, your crafters will all use pretty much the same gear (their tools being the only difference) same with your gathering jobs (MIN, BTN, Fishing I think... I haven't done fishing in like 3 years) so no need to have multiples of gear.
Sound advice. I've been watching your videos to determine whether or not I want to embark on my FFXIV journey. I play WoW, currently. Before that, I was playing EQ. So I do invest alot of time in my chosen gaming endeavors. Your videos are very informative and have made me look carefully at FFXIV.
@@rebeccadavismcclard9031 I have been playing FFXIV now for about 4 days as an Arcanist on my path to becoming a Summoner. I love it. Best gaming decision I've ever made.
Thank you, these are useful tips. I took a while to understand AoE attacks and they help a lot when there are many enemies around. It's a game where at the beginning it may seem overwhelming, but then you get to enjoy almost everything. I only wish ARR had more voiced scenes! I'd also recommend to always repair equipment at a mender.
when you use the recommended gear button its important to mention that it only equips gear in your armoury chest not in your inventory. Also, make sure you clear obsolete gear from your armoury so you have room for better gear later.
Another note regarding I levels for newbies: When purchasing gear with the Tomestones, there's a usual 'priority' of what will be most effective! Weapon is always the best choice first, followed then by your chest, your pants, the rest of your 'left side' (head/gloves/feet), then your 'right side' in any order (your jewelery) that's the 'biggest stat buff' in order. It's why they're more expensive
The game does not remove tank stance if you do content at your level. It ONLY removes it when you sync down. So the tank swap is not the reason. However I did set it up so my hello macro turns it on and my goodbye macro turns it off. This way I take completele control of my stance.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that letting the tank grab aggro before casting HoT matters. Healing generates a ton of aggro in this game and pre-HoT can really mess pulls up.
I personaly think it is better to tell new Heals to stack with tank if you need to Hot(heal over time) Ahead of time. To be effective with healer damage it is easier to pre-Hot, then stand with tank so they can pull off of you easily. Most healer damage AOEs are melee range any way. Taking a few hits from trash mobs will rarly kill you as healz. I felt the need to say this because alot of new healers often will get agro and just run away rather than standing with Tank. It is far eaiser as healer and tank just to stick with the tank during trash pulls.

Hey, I think you missed the ctrl+shift+i for the chocobo inventory. It took me like 700 hours to find out it exists.
I've been watching a lot of your vids lately! You have some great guides, thank you!
@@wiseguise5960 thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying them!
The cross-over mounts are so damn immersion breaking. They look stupid in the world.
There's some sort of glamour vendor right? And you need items like Glamour Prisms? Complete noob here, only recalling 2nd hand information.
Lol right? The mitts and acton didn't make me look like a fearsome hero out to kill a foe or two. It made me look like a was going to bake someone a fancy cake.
It was in the last guied
Exactly my thought.
Side note.. there is one debuff in the game that cannot be removed with esuna, but an emote will.
Misery cured by comfort. Makes sense and sounds intentional, and not a glitch!
ARR and 3.0 (base Heavensward) is full of these cool janky old school MMO mechanics that although the majority of have been since patched out of the game propper, still exist within the old dungions and in some quests.
Huh, interesting mechanic. You learn something new everyday!
oh thats why that happened.. i thought they were comforting me because i was doing such a shit job at healing
@Phoenix for me, i play healer because it feels like im helping people, and that in turn makes me feel better about myself. not very much so when we wipe, though..
One quick clarifying point:
Recommended gear only works with gear in your armory chest.
@@danielisbell thats the default option.

I am also a beginner but I think Im at a point now where I get the basics and things don't feel nearly as overwhelming. You'll get there friend :P
He’s not lying. I’m still in storm blood and got two character at 90. But I did do daily roulette.
Im too far along to do that lmao. Just have a dragoon and have been playing since the beginning
Is it too late for me to do this?
I play a black mage, and I'm really not enjoying it. But I'm already level 35 (on Xbox, the game is pretty new)
I'm not sure what else to pick, but can I do the level 35 MSQ as a level 1 in a different job?
I’m glad my FC doesn’t rush me and I have members that been here since 1.0 … luminousmind on aether/midsommar

The pacing of the game is also very slow and If it was a free game I might reconsider but if im paying to play the game, im gonna get my moneys worth trying to take advantage of the other 90%
One bit of advice I will add, for everyone under level 50 who's yet to finish the base game of ARR, is to do with what happens between the end of the base game (after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") , and the start of the first Heavenward expansion (when you start the "Coming to Ishgard" quest)
Every time one storyline ends, there is a series of quests before the new story/expansion starts, that sets up the foundation for that story. They can be kind of dull, but they end up being worth it when we're more immersed in the new story (instead of just being dropped in a new land, and having strangers demand we save them, we know where we are, how we got here, who we need to save, why we need to save them, and we're attached enough to want to save them)
HOWEVER.
It's honestly leagues above the storyline of the base game, and when the game truly opens up.
shadowbringers was boring for me. even more than ARR post content.
Dam I’m in post are now …
I'm currently in that portion of the game and I don't agree at all. When Ramuh got summoned and you got called away I still wanted to help that girl find her parents.
Also skipping msq cutscenes in Shadowbringer and Endwalker is a crime
Yeah, caught some of those mistakes, and it made me leary of blindly following that option.
Yea it's cus generally higher ilvl = higher str and vit
However as a tank you might wanna also get higher armor or tenacity so always keep an eye out
This is no longer the case with Endwalker. They increased the amount of defense on all lvl
"Slow Burn"
I love me a deep slow progression in story, that takes it's time to build up a world and the characters within it before slowly ramping up into an unbelievable EPIC!
It's been a blast!
Which hud setup do you use? I’m also on laptop and I wanna have as much screen as possible bc I’m new ;-;
You can also do this on ps4 so can see more my suggestion is set up hud in area where no lag and no interuptions . Easy way do this go to inn once lvl 15 + unsync dungeon make sure its good . Once you get higher lvl unlock jobs advanced skill can unsync low lvl 15 dungeon set it up
I just want to add a point to the poetics gear from lvl 60 on, the vendor does not appear until you have cleared certain story points.
Yes, but it helps with Grand Company
I will say, "focus on MSQ," yeah I did that through Heavensward and now the side quests don't make as much sense, so maybe do some of the yellow side quests along the way because they play along with the story. I'm not making this mistake again when I go forward with the story. I was already over leveled and I'm leveling up another job to continue the MSQ, and if you get over leveled you can always start a class that starts at level 50, 60, now 70 in later expansions. Some advice I've seen is that this game is 10 years worth of content that's had gaps in between expansions, it's ok to take your time to work through it.
I decided to take a break in the middle of the Heavensward post-story patches to level Dragoon.
Needless to say, I was a bit confused.
thank you for this i have been rushing the story now i think i will be doing alt classes on side quests

@@faithsyr1733I get it. Try using it around 10 to 15% instead. They might be thinking you forgot to do it
they would think that but a properly timed LB can end a fight rather then prolong one. or i am waiting for the LB3 to stack and not pop lb at 98% fully stacked making it an LB2 all in al i have seen Mages pop LB3 when there are 3 other4 melee dps in group. waiting for the perfect times hit to end fight with there cool Macro Lbs (i have lots of those) @@duhvidian2369
You have to keep activating your tank stance when you enter a dungeon when you get level synced. For some reason getting level synced turns the tank stance off.
it also resets other charge stuff too. like the RDM bars get reset when you sync into fates as well
It’s to remove all buffs entirely except sprint for some reason.
Or saving LBs for bosses..LB trash
@pointlessmike eh it's not a troll. The only reason I figured out that tanks can handle a lot more than single pulls is when a healer started yanking me into the next groups.
Whats ur secret to living millions of years? I’ve only made it a few thousand and science doesn’t seem to be making progress

I just started playing and am barely level 25, but would be so much worse off without your help. Your guides are EXTREMELY helpful and I had to thank you for all the tips, not just from this vid but from several. You're an awesome individual!
If I may offer some other advice that might benefit you if you haven't reach the first expansion yet
After you finish the main story of ARR (aka after you finish the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") there will be some very boring quests that slow the pace of the story down to a crawl.
This feels like slightly more than 5 tips.
one reason tank stance isn't on automatically is because in anything with more than one tank it can be a pain if enmity is constantly switching between tanks, and it can be useful for tank swaps in harder content to turn it on in the middle of a fight, however they could have it turn on automatically in any instance that has only one tank. However the problem with that could be people get too reliant on the game turning it on for you and in the aforementioned content they might not be prepared to use it consciously.
So the one in a million where that is a thing is sure more annoying then the literally every dungeon I need tank stance for
Hide Gear set items was good tip!
I'm glad you're doing this too. The idea that you can only praise or play one mmo was so weird. Some people still think that way lol
100% agree 👍👍👍👍
I sorta feel this way, but I don't think it's in an elitist sort of way. The only other MMO I player Star Wars The Old Republic, but honestly, after playing so much of XIV, I don't know if I'll be able to go back.
@@MyGamer125 It's not like that. What I mean is people who scoff at the idea of people enjoying multiple mmos like it's not cool or out of style. What you said is fair, that's your personal experience.
I play swtor and 14 and even though they're very different i like both of them
@@reidlos8084 Yep I like variety too
Extremely helpful, especially the info about the Level 50+ gear and selling old gear. Thank You!
As a veteran of FFXIV this is a very informed guide to common mistakes or over looks. Nice work!
I should've watched this video earlier xD
one of the biggest mistakes in FF14 as a New Player is to assume the first 50 levels of the game would be amazing... because IT'S NOT!😂
I would actually recommend using “hide armory chest items” instead bc that includes headset items and items you don’t have in a gear set that are in your armory chest.
Picked this up in addition to ESO bc a friend loves it and have been having a blast just playing it really chill :) its such a fun change of pace
Thanks for the materia & GC tips! Was the stuff I knew the least about
I've started to play on Linux because I swapped all of my computers over to Ubuntu and I started a new account so I could play on Steam through Proton. Experiencing everything again as a new player is so fun and interesting, I love it.
Great summary, everything that i need as a new player ❤️
You can pull gearsets from the list and assign them to a hotbar too.
good point!
Hold on a minute... I've been playing this game since 2014 and I just learned about the spiritbond materia extraction from your video today!
"pick what looks fun, pick what looks cool!"
THIS.
I read that quote the instant that he said it in the video. It's always so off-putting when that happens!
I'm a new player and I've seen coutless videos about mistakes/tips and yours was the most helpful I've seen so far! Thank you so much :))
Just picked up FF14 yesterday. I had played very briefly on PS3 way back and forgot everything I had learned then. Just found your videos and it has been a real help! Thanks for all these!
Saw your beginning guide and started the game 2 days ago your video are fire for new player starting keep making content
Thanks, will do!
Sigh, I miss class quests, I hope they come back one day
The way I typically like to categorize my cooldowns for trash pulls is as such. Keep in mind I'm doing this under the assumption that the Tank is doing 2 pulls at once cause I'm totally THAT player who expects that from their Tanks:
>90 sec CDs: Use on the first pull. By the time these cooldowns are reset, you'll either be nearly complete with your second pull or you'll be at the boss. These are typically the cooldowns that either mow through mobs or keep you alive for a very long time, so use it for the first pull.
I...I've been playing for 7 years and I never knew about the Soulbind Materia Extraction thing until now.
I’ve been playing for nearly 10 years and I never noticed the white bar above the debuffs we can ‘Esuna’ until a year ago. Just learned by habit what could and couldn’t be removed. So... yeah.. 😅👍
I've been playing this game for 10 years and I still love these videos because I always find some QoL thing I'd forgotten or didn't know.
A returning player here and this is very helpful. Thanks!
Glad to hear it! Welcome back!
This is SOO GOOD. OMG I'm like 100 hours in and just learned so much, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m proud I found out about all these by myself, however it took me a lot of time and mistakes to do so. Very helpful
Remember FFXIV is an RPG first, and an MMO second. So I hope you like storytelling! 😃
For the cool downs, remember that dungeons are run generally between 25 to 40 minutes, and are composed, for the most part, of 2 to 3 trash groups between each boss and 3 bosses.
I just hit 90 with my second job and im still enjoying and i honestly surprised my played time is 1.4k hours and climbing.
@@keiyangoshin3650 Yeah i just wish you expand your bank with ingame currency instead of multiple fees thats my main issue atm.
The MSQ requirement to progress and the story is kinda what drove me away tbh. I never player MMOs for lore and story.
"You can do any piece of content in the game, on any job in the game."
Except BLU... 😢
I love implementing my classes to my character on her journey. She was a white mage in ARR but after the events of the Vault in Heavensward ( if you know you know ) she essentially " lost " her abilities to heal and her heart grew dark enough to open itself to Fray thus her journey as a dark knight began
I never knew the difference between extracting and retrieving and felt not sure what to do. Thanks for letting me know ☺️ much appreciated
Happy to help!
Fantastic guide! I just started playing over the weekend and I knew some of these tips, but others either cleared up things that weren’t explained well in-game or just provided new knowledge. Thank you!
Welcome to the game! Feel free to ask questions either here or in game. I'm sure someone will help
As a very new player trying to learn it by myself, this video is confirming I am on the right path and helps a lot thank you very much!
I'm rather late to this comment, but I've been playing a while and can answer most questions you may have. Have fun with the game if you're still playing, lol
@@duhvidian2369 I just wanted to get decent enough to get my last 2 achievements to get platinum trophy on PlayStation, I have to kill gold fury and the other one within like 2 minutes or something like that

@@duhvidian2369 ok woops I thought this was my comment about learning conquest in smite haha. As for ff14 I finished msq, can play good now and just finding all the side content :)
@@Rawph69 lol well congrats then. Good luck on the smite trophies!
Biggest Mistake is adding people on FF ...Make sure you know once you add someone they always have access to so if you were to have falling out or harassed or stalked there nothing you can do in this game....
@@scrumbleslegit if your report someone there gonna be brought to a dungeon area where they explain why you were pulled there and how long your getting banned
I feel bad for you.
Perfect guide for someone who just started on Xbox. Even 2 years old everything is still relevant. 👏👏
The tank stance will stay on when you are doing anything at level. it gets turned off everytime you get scaled down to a lower level. Kind of annoying
Thanks! Just started with Elezen Lancer and gotten up to lvl 30, my main quest is around lvl 20 so been doing just that now xD Having fun at trial for sure!
I never use the Materia Extraction ability. I just right click on the pieces of gear and select to extract. I doubt it really saves much time, but I open my Character menu a LOT more than my abilities menu so it's just more natural for me to do it from the Character menu rather than digging through the other menu.
The thumbnail hit me in the feels. God dam inventory and equipment inventory after doing MSQ hurts my soul.
Glad to see someone else from ESO playing Ffxiv. Left ESO 6 months ago for this game. So much better.
I'm curious to know what your pros & cons are vs the two games
I've been primarily a wow player for over a decade.
I tried ESO & loved it
Not knowing anyone is why I eventually stopped playing.
I've currently been playing ffxiv
Just completed endwalker msq & absolutely love the story & game.
Friendly voice, good advice, great video. I'm downloading this game tomorrow and appreciate your pointers.
This was an amazing guide to Watch! As a sprout, this makes everything make more sense, because the game is very overwhelming when you start!
As a veteran WoW player I cannot recommend FF14 enough. If you take the plunge I do not think you will be disappointed at all.
@@rebeccadavismcclard9031 I have been playing FFXIV now for about 4 days as an Arcanist on my path to becoming a Summoner. I love it. Best gaming decision I've ever made.
I started the free trial yesterday and I’m loving the tedious early game stuff. That completion-ist urge got me a dance emote!
Great guide! The most useful part of this guide for me was the material extraction! I had no idea!
Another note regarding I levels for newbies:
When purchasing gear with the Tomestones, there's a usual 'priority' of what will be most effective!
Weapon is always the best choice first, followed then by your chest, your pants, the rest of your 'left side' (head/gloves/feet), then your 'right side' in any order (your jewelery)
that's the 'biggest stat buff' in order. It's why they're more expensive
Hey you can set the gear gets to your hot bar so its even quicker Edit you can compare gear when shopping with the tomestones also!
The reason why Square Enix won't auto aggro Tanks is for raids and other duties that require tanks swap
HoTs don't generate aggro with their ticks anymore, that was changed a while ago
@@Fr3akyBeelie Oh. Good to know, then! Thank you!
