I'm the odd one here, I find them obnoxious and too distracting. I can't find the appeal on watching a character getting pinched every the words. There's so many effects thrown in to his videos that makes me want to watch something else. So I am just hearing the video while I do something else. Like I said, I know I'm the odd one out...

the producer of the game, yoshiP actually mains black mage, and in fact one time he did some savage raiding with his community character one of the players was parsing and discovered that yoshi-p parsed purple/orange.

As a black mage main as of 2 years, I gotta say it's weird how relatable pint is in the grind, had me at sub optimal ley lines hehehehe
I main blm for 3 years and I loved the class. Have to admit it gave me so much anxiety though lol. got through most of shadowbringers savage content up till 12s then took a break from ff14 for a bit. Never thought when I started playing this class, that I'd be clearing that type of content on BLM lol. What made me have more appreciation for the class is, well its difficult to master in higher level content everyone knows that, but when you do it pays off well :p and also not to treat the game like its a 9 to 5.
I take long breaks. in a span of 3 years I've taken a total of three, 6 month long breaks from the game. Even now, I haven't touched Endwalker content yet, and probably don't plan to do so until the summer. I've played one other mmo before ff14 and that game made me realize the one thing that's cause games like these to go stale (and as a result have less and less fun), is feeling like you're obligated to log on everyday, even on days where you don't want to log on but know u have to because of some weekly grind/cap. Dedication to game that you love is fine, but dont let it get in the way of what the game was made for, which is to just have fun. This wasn't aimed at you Teejay, it's just my experience with mmos in general.
It's easy to get burnt out progging/grinding ultimate/savage content, but the long breaks I take from the game makes me realize that sometimes, the basics are what matters the most. your enjoyment :)

I agree Tanking is so fun in FF14 can't get enough.
Tanking in FF14 is definitely made for Asmongold. Players expect you to be a semi-good dps as much as a tank.

I prefer old summoner. At least back then we actually dealt damage. Now we're at the bottom.

@@xincnos9657 I know smn is not literally doing bottom damage. Obviously. But back in 5.0 SMN was like the 3rd or 4th highest dmg DPS, whereas now it's the 4th lowest dmg DPS.
@@jewii3824 sounds like a skill issue, i consistently outparse reapers and samurais on the daily. (Not a personal jab either I mean it might literally just be that you could optimize more, there's always room for improvement, for all of us.)

Funny enough, we actually give BLM a melee spot in my raid team so that he doesnthave to move most of the time. And our physical range dps moves for our BLM when he has to be somewhere, so that he pops instant cast and dashes on him. Then this physical range can go where he is supposed to be. Have fun with that
I started doing the same as mch for our black mage in shiva savage. only failed twice but it was funny seeing how she became wary for some time after i got her killed. But pull by pull teleporting got faster and the casts didn't get cancelled and i earned her trust back in like 5 pulls or so.
All this extra work when summoner at that time would have been higher dps even without outside assistance haha.
The beauty of good strats, helping others win, and getting good. Not stupid useless ass shortcuts like "DURRR LEARN SLIDECAST FIRST". Stupid idiots don't even know how to take advantage of how it works.

Not all heroes wear capes... But some of them provide taxi services to BLM.
"I feel like if I play redmage I can do anything I wanna do" This is why I main RDM. It's the most versatile job by far to me. Solo content? S Tier. Prog? S Tier. I started playing it cause it was easy to get into, but it has a decently high ceiling too so it keeps me interested during reclears.

@@joshl9988 Yeah, you can't res in there but it's still a fine choice despite that. RDM has good level 70 damage going by uwu and ucob numbers.
Seeing a black mage is going to result in one of two things in like 90% of the dungeon runs. The middle ground on that job is so non existent in terms of player skill lol. Either the run is going to be slow because they're not well versed in either the job or the fights, and it's slow. Or that Black Mage is going to rip that dungeon into like 300 pieces before you remember to put tank stance on. A good BLM in a dungeon is *hilarious* at how much burst they can put out on trash mobs with Triplecast and Flare usage.

But mostly the first, because they only use ice to be able to cast the whole time or just use fire and have extreme downtimes when mana is empty.

In my experience, the fun in BLM mob aoe is actually in the aoe lightning dot procs.
Every lightning proc applies all the damage from the duration of the dot and refreshes the lightning dot.
And then, you blast flares and fouls as much as you can to melt all into goo.

Gunbreakers dont use the swords as guns, just adds explosions to the regular attacks.

@@jonathanberry8656 By the time I had moved on from FFXI after SE ruined it trying to chase WoW subscription numbers by trying to make it so easy little kids could play it like WoW, I had mastered 19 of the 22 jobs. The last 3 I hadn't mastered were Corsair, Rune Fencer and Puppetmaster. Before I left, Puppetmaster was still a bit buggy, so I think I only got it to like level 40. I never played it after the job was fixed.
Ninja and dancer are most fun for me. Dragoon cool though too.
Watched this with my sister she started as a black mage and then leveled a red mage. She also recently tried gunbreaker too and she loves it. I asked if she will go back to black mage she said no.
She plays as a female Viera so she feels like she can't fully enjoy the black mage aesthetic. Since, you know they can't wear certain head gear.
I can accept if viera cant wear full face helmet gear, but there's no way they can't wear beeg hat 😞
Most blm gear works better on lalas anyway...

The hat problem with Viera actually takes me out of the game a little. In the world of FF14 you have gods and magical robots but an entire race of bunny people didn't think to cut out holes for their ears to be able to wear hats. Okay 😅

4:50 If this was still Shadowbringer it'd be easily the healers who have the most control. But ever since the stat squish, the damage we take is meaningful again at lower levels. Unfortunately, I hate to let you know, not that you'll see this, but healers still have most of the control over the fight. A bad healer will end any run, no matter how easy it is.

Unless it's an Expert dungeon and you're playing WAR or hell, even PLD.

But what you said only goes with people who are not coasters or an idiot. And the vast majority of players don't know what they're doing.
Can confirm. Went through Ala Mhigo with a Scholar who claimed to be drunk and not all there. We wiped. Dozens of times. And barely clinched a victory in the last 5 minutes of the dungeon.
I was tanking as a DRK that time, and...well...needless to say. I got one hell of a crash course in using Living Dead (which I hadn't used much up to that point)
@@historiabyssus Yeah, you should have kicked him (and reported him). He was clearly doing nothing. Spamming physic would have been infintely better than all the nothing he did.
Even Holmgang and Superbolide wouldn't save you.
The gunbreaker's gunblade shoots magic powder, which the user transforms into a barrier or whatever he wants, which is most commonly lightning and explosions.
So it's a mage with a gun inside a sword.

If I may make a suggestion about FF14 in particular. With this game I would at least try giving 1 tank, 1 healer, and 1 DPS class a try since the jobs are so well balanced. I think you'll actually find DPS'ing or healing actually very rewarding with FF14. Enjoy!
I can't picture Asmon trying healer except for a donation goal for a charity stream or something like that. Maybe sage cause you don't have to start at lvl 1, but otherwise that's, i think very very very very unlikely to happen. Would love to see it tho. I kinda want to see him panic when he sees the tank suddenly at 20% hp.
I never played healer in any mmo until ffxiv and that's because if you're really good and heal as little as possible your damage is stupid high. You'll outdamage many tanks and even dps and that's hella satisfying

healing is fun but can be stressful. I popped into a random dungeon yesterday at level 49 (so I didn't have that free ilvl 90 set yet), it was aurum vale which I hadn't done before (I did mention this). man that was a scary run, we had 1 wipe on the first boss because my heals couldn't keep up, but we finished after that. but yeah they was the first time I actually had to try and used every one of my cooldowns, I hadn't used them even once before that. my first character back in 2014 was a tank and I remember that also required a lot more effort than tanking in stuff like wow, if I missed even one ability the mobs would go after healers or DPS, although I think that was before the tank stance change.
I still haven't played dps in FFXIV yet, I really like the instant queues, and the instanced group content is my favorite part anyway.

@Davi becuase when a savage raid boss has 10 million health or more. Everything counts. Its more mandatory in high end but yit happens and people eff up. Killing the boss is mitigating future damage. Also when a raid boss reaches enrage and theres only 2 or 1% health.... someone is messing up or healers not using dots most likely. Everyone is a dps in ff

It's that but also doing so with the way mechanics work in things like Savage is death, for you and/or everyone.
It was funny seeing Pyro rant about how good Aetherial Manipulation is because he's thinking in terms of WoW and easy content. Completely oblivious to the fact that Savage mechanics tend to make stacking death, or you cannot use it belated to outrace mechanics, etc. Mechanics are often just scripted in a way where teleporting to another player will not do the mechanic properly.
Even so, Black Mages got Aetherial Manipulation to tp to allies so you don't lose much if any damage by getting out of aoes.
Just play a dragoon, you won't have to do anything cause nobody expects you to 🙂🙃

The Enochian bit is really weird.
It seems like that part was written when Shadowbringers was current, and Enochian was an actual ability to use, but I just noticed that in the part where he explains it, he shows a cast of Fire 1 being used to refresh Enochian, which is how it works now.
I'm surprised it took me that long to notice that it's actually still up to date for Endwalker.

@@db212006 trueeee. I've been playing FFXIV since it released but one thing that people try to ignore is how toxic the people there really are. Most people here have only seen the people that have played with Asmon and so of course they'll think that FFXIV players are nice, who wouldn't be nice when playing with a Top streamer?? A few years back peon made his first video on FFXIV and as someone that played from the beginning, i had completely agreed with it but he got utterly destroyed by the community of toxicity known as FFXIV and actually removed the video. Most of the FFXIV players just aren't capable of hearing and negative criticism about their game
When the healer pulled him, I had a thousand flashbacks. So frustrating. Don’t do it, healers. Just heal the mage, and move along.
Wouldn’t have to if you just moved. Healers shouldn’t have to adjust for one dps class that brings no utility and doesn’t do that much more damage than those that do, and often gets outperformed by others. You don’t get to demand other people heal you for refusing to do mechanics. At least Reapers can provide healing when they get assblasted.
Now, I’m not telling you not to play what you want or that your class isn’t as good as x other class, I’m just saying don’t demand others to adjust for your one class that you chose to play solely because you were too stubborn to move. If you refuse to do mechanics, don’t be surprised if people either force you to or won’t heal you for your greed.
Tl;dr Just do the damn mechanics, your damage comes second to being alive.
@@MayHugger I heal a lot. It’s pretty easy to just take care of the BLM, and the benefit is skipping mechanics when the numbers add up. It’s how the class is designed to work.

@@MayHugger That’s weird, cause we did on P4S pretty easily. Skipped all three of the raid wides at the end. We once even killed him before the final major mechanic was over. There are also DPS walls in high end content. They wouldn’t be able to exist if there were not fluctuating DPS outputs.
@@benc2972 Sure you did. Either way, every dps can beat those dps checks, you can do it with the lowest damaging classes, and even ignoring that, like I brought up earlier, Black Mage still gets outperformed by other dps that bring utility.
I stared at WoW DPS meters too. I always had both DPS + HPS meters active at all times to make sure I was the top healer, and if I wasn’t, I’d be disappointed in myself. I wouldn’t question DPS in chat, but on the inside I’d be annoyed that they were bringing us down.
FFXIV has changed my mindset. Though there are DPS checks, it’s easy to pass them. The focus on mechanics over DPS/HPS has been developed really well. Instead of focusing on how much healing I’m doing, I focus on keeping people alive. Having infinite rezzes is something I didn’t know I needed, too.
The first thing I did when I returned to WoW though was download all the “required” addons… By habit, I downloaded Details.

Black mage is an artillery class basically. Mainly a ranged dps that has low mobility and high dps.
4:55 also tanking guarantees you are the 1st priority for heals.
Black Mage was my first class when i started out in 2017, personally i feel the job becomes genuinely fun at level 60 when you unlock Fire 4 and your dps leaps forward, very satisfying, then it only gets better every 10 levels, while keeping the rotation pretty simple, if you think the Black Mage rotation is hard (does anyone ?) then try Monk, that class actually makes me lose my mind while raiding.

I'm a tank purist in every MMO I've played, but damn if Red Mage isn't one of the coolest classes I've ever seen. My wife plays one and I'm always envious as we're both trying to get out of AOE and she backflips to safety like a pure bad ass before dropping fire from the sky.

I had a moment where I was lvling Black mage through dungeons and one player in that party was being a prick to me about not knowing the proper rotation for the spells. I told him " I'm still learning, just let me hit buttons" and the dude just left the party. There are still people who think everyone should be at their lvl of perfect gaming

They don’t have to be perfect, but it doesn’t seem like a huge ask for people to have some basic idea before inflicting themselves on others in group content. At least personally I would feel bad if I went into group content and wasted others’ time by not knowing the basics.
@@ArborusVitae I had the basic knowledge for the rotation, but this guy was telling me I wasn't doing the "correct" rotation while I was power lvling through dungeons. This also happened before I hit lvl 50 so I was in ARR dungeons
I just troll them and insist that the skill they’re suggesting I use doesn’t exist at my level, and continue to insist it as they trigger out of their fucking minds and spend all their time typing in chat.
That never happened to me before in a dungeon lmao. Ive been playing since 2013. It's obviously a newcomer to FF. There's no way in hell that guy was a veteran FF player, sorry.
Damn, playing Black Mage sounds like playing a Weaver in GW2.
Brings nothing but damage to a group. Gets locked in animations. Has an extremely complex rotation. And dies to mechanics instead of sacrificing DPS.
You’re not locked in animations with Black Mage, that’s more Dragoon’s thing.

I've started as a marauder/warrior and I freaking love it. Can be a handful when u got peeps pulling agro before u can cause they take off in front of you but I loving being a tank in this game.

this is pretty much the oldest trick in the internet.
Kinda reminds me of the cool tricks you can do in Apex with its movement and being a descendant of the source engine its fun asf.
My favorite part about Black Mage is when I get queued for a level 50 roulette, and have to play actionbar musical chairs because you get two new main damaging attacks somewhere before 60.
Black Mage was my first class back in ARR.
It's forever at level 50 rn. It was pain.
Pint is a god tier video maker.
Going to be honest, standing in boss aoe's gives you a debuf where you take more damage the more you get, so sure it won't kill you the first or second time but it'll kill you the third time and then you're doing half damage due to death debufs
I actually tanked in berserker stance back during Burning Crusade. I would do so much damage to everything with cleave and whirlwind and have endless supply of rage that nothing could pull agro off me or out dps me.
Pint is the only UA-camr where I'll actually sit through the Raid Shadow Legends ad, because he makes them entertaining. Lot better to watch than a UA-camr cutting away to tell you about a game where it's clear they're just reading from flash cards and don't even like the game. Sure, Pint may be doing just that as well, but at least he makes it fun to watch
black mage is pretty fun, I started that cause I wanted a caster for this game, and chose black mage cause ya know, fire and frost caster with some lightning in the middle.
I thought Gunbreaker was dumb as a melee too, until I started to understand it better. I think of it now kind of like a charge blade in Monster Hunter games. The gun part of your weapon is more about making an aether infused explosive charge to augment your weapon attacks and not really for shooting bullets.
Have a DK, PLD and GNB and right now I'm enjoying the PLD rotation the most even if they are (were? On a break playing Lost Ark right now). Also ducks being down one defensive CD.

I've been a Black Mage from the first day and I haven't been anything else since. Maybe my days playing WoW prepared me for crazy rotations and difficulty. I'm so used to it that when I did a few quests for some of the other classes, I felt so confused. Lol
"No one would turn away a good player in favor of a bad player just because of their class" this can be true sometimes, really random example, and IK it's not FF but there have been several times i've played MHW using the bow and have been instantly booted from hunts just to see that the hosting hunter let's in several lower MR hunters. I got passed up because of my class, and the host chose others who were less skilled... it doesn't happen A LOT, but it is a possibility.
DawnTrail Class showcase showed Blackmage being able to move their Leylines while it's up one time. So it's a new skill unlock at 90-100. Yoshi P also loves Black Mage (As well as Dragoon) so he prob was sick of also having to leave his Leylines

Imo the hardest part about playing blm is that we need to know every fight and remember all the mechs well, so that we can have better positioning all the time to keep up with the rotation and avoid taking unnecessary damage cuz it usually comes with vulnerability debuffs and no healer would be able to heal through 3/4/5 vul stacks.
That and rescue...it's annoying as a ninja main when I'm Shikuchi-ing somewhere and next thing I know the healer is pulling me away from where I want to be, usually though MULTIPLE damage indicators...
Black mage was my first class and I had no idea it was hard until I leveled red mage 😂

It's not hard. People complain about how brain dead it is all of the time.
It's only difficult if you for some stupid reason try to treat the rotation like it's a music sheet, instead of learning what to do under conditions. What are you doing in Astral Fire? Burn all of the MP for damage. What are you doing in Umbral Ice? Restore MP and getting out of it as soon as possible. Does any of that change? No.
@@dangerwarg9682 sure I've played it long enough that it's not 'hard' anymore, but it's objectively harder than almost any other class especially a mobile one like red mage.
@@dangerwarg9682 BLM difficulty at high level play seems to be that deep fight knowledge is absolutely necessary to keep uptime. As a MCH I usually have no uptime problem at all except for maybe very busy movement phases during my Hypercharge. Similar with PLD uptime as you are basically a ranged job for 8 GCDs per minute.
@@randalica92 I use to argue with my friends that BLM is not hard because of the rotation or mechanics of the class. It is hard because you have to know the exact timing of every raid or extreme. Other classes can get away with just the basic knowledge of the fights, but great blm does not get that pleasure. What makes it worse is if the timing changes due to overall team damage being either too high or too low.

Level 80 and 90 black mage. Its easy but difficult to master. Black mage endochain (gauge) is a raging river. Staying in control is 80% of the struggle. If it breaks, to the end of the parse line with you!

Asmon, gunbreaker doesn't shoot the enemy with the gun part, the firing mechanism causes the blade to vibrate at high speeds like Metal Gear Rising. It's like playing an explosive Raiden from MGR.

Played as black mage on my first play through with it being my first MMO I ever played lmao. It’s not that bad.
its not that bad till you try to do endgame raiding. if you do something wrong you may end up doing less dps than a tank. but if you play it perfectly no one can get near your dps thats the point of the whole video. the rotation on early levels its easy at the point of being extremely boring. raiding and doing it perfectly is where the fun is.

With DPS checks big damage is bringing a lot to the raid honestly, it allows the classes that offer utility to do their thing and the checks get hit. So don't think just big damage isn't offering anything. It really brings a lot
I think I wrote this in his reply but YoshiP is black mage and his dps is about the 10th highest dps average output. This job is said to be amazing if played right sucks if not.
