@@DrakeWurrum That's fair. Though sometimes I forget Trick Attack has a positional as well. And while NIN can do stuff at range you miss out on auto attacks etc. if you stay at range for too long which is a loss of dps. (Dagger throw is really low dps compared to... everything.)

I've watched quite a bunch of "What job should I pick?" videos (I'm a Warcraft player, wanting to try out Dawntrail), but this video really showcases all jobs the best, and finally I can also see how it would all look like in the end. Thank you!
Biggest thing I can give to new players, give every role a try. Tank and heal anxiety are real, but you can overcome them, and it will make you a better player who understands what your party members are going through and thinking. Don't forget to limit test too! No better way to find out how long you can greed than to do it ever so slightly *too* long and get caught out. No one was a master of this game when they started out.
Been playing for a month now, started with Lancer hoping that I could use Dragoon to jump over parts of the level. No luck there :P It was fun enough, but I had trouble hitting all my skills on keyboard. Once I finished ARR, I switched to Red Mage, and that's where the game really came to life for me. I switched to controller, which made it mindblowingly easier to hit all my skills quickly. As a bonus, I've loved rapiers ever since I took fencing in high school 17 years ago, and using the arcane focus to turn it into a staff is unbelievably stylish. I love how mobile you are with Corps-a-Corps and Displacement (tho CaC should really be called Fleche lol) Still trying to figure out which tank and healer I want to start with to round out my role choices -- and whether or not I want to grab a different melee DPS.
@MrDoctorSpanky nah I'm actually really lame and boring at parties. Probably because random strangers get weirdly offended when I point out the actual name of stuff to a youtuber.
This is the most in-depth "serious" video on this topic I've watched. I was surprised. Definitely the most legitimately helpful piece of media on this topic. I will be buying FF14 with Dawntrail, and plan on going with summoner. Might try out Scholar since it levels together; could be useful for getting into dungeons lol.
Still new since we finally got it on xbox. I main GLD however have tried Mar and WHM (still only a Conj atm). I love seeing these because of the things I learn.
Helpful, sure, but I feel what we need now instead of just a summary of what each one does is a guide to what playing each one entails. I deeply regret leveling astrologian to level 50 only to realize you need to pay attention to a different, smaller set of symbols, for example. Like I feel explaining sage's kardia and eukrasia should not be a priority compared to pointing out that it is essentially a more accessible version of scholar in a way because you don't have to mess around with pets or remember to aetherflow every minute and there is a lot of overlap between their kits.
It sucks, all these jobs and there's nothing like my favorites in WoW. No frost mage (yes, I know BM uses it, but apparently only half the time), no Affliction Warlock or in fact anything DoT or HoT-focused, which is weird, and no healer that's basically a mobile water park. I dunno, the archetypes in WoW are just cooler to me. Also these visual effects are huge and I imagine raids look like technicolor vomit with 10+ players spamming them.
I became a elezen white mage main by accident. The FC for my elezen is the most social so I use that character the most and chose whm because I thought it was fitting. At this point I’m working towards mastering 1 job for each main class for raiding purposes. What dps job would you recommend for ultimate raids? I’m thinking either rdm or mnk, but not sure where I should focus.
Paladin, Dragoon and White mage seem to be my choices as a beginner for each of the roles in big part due to the thematics of having a shield and a spear respecively and the nature theme for WM. On top of that I have further interest in black mage for the Explosion! theme. Few honorable mention go to Scholar, Gunbreaker and Machinist. Lastly I appriciate the lore (I read about) Bard where Bards are just a byproduct of Gridanian (my favorite starting location) Archers that wher singing to boost morale while being forced to fight unwillingly. Oh also Botanist just because. Not for fighting of course.
Based on a frighteningly high percentage of randos I've had lately: before the WHM can talk, they should try casting Holy and using oGCD heals instead of standing 30ft away and spamming Cure1. **sips tea**
am i already set being a sage main with dancer secondary? do i have multiple jobs to level 90? am i doing savage content? yes, yes and yes. did i still watch and enjoy this video? hell yes. very good video again rinon!!
After playing for a while i eventually settled on wanting a main for each category. I have settled on Gunbreaker, Sage, Summoner (soon to be replaced with Pictomancer), Machinist and honestly melee DPS i have no clue yet which i like the most.
Amazing Video and I appreciate the simple explanation of all the Jobs. What glam did you use for your healer section? I really like that top and hopefully i can get the same top for myself.
im new, got machinist to 90 and just got to 650 ilvl playing on controller and looking at the other jobs felt like i needed to switch to keyboard. i like not having to switch thru sets to do a rotation and decent dmg. idk felt bad having to remeber multiple button combination and was more like a tekken game having to spam r1 3 times a lot and lets not talk about the targeting i find it very bad
I don’t feel like typing a lot but I’ve been on controller for a few years and it’s best to deselect and change around some settings for targeting and as for buttons I would say put everything across all your jobs in the same orientation if that makes sense like all main combos on rt plus face buttons and all gap closers on the double tap and x ( ps controller) so you build and keep up the muscle memory across all the jobs it makes it become second nature over time
Also ginger prime he may have change his name offers some really good settings for controller that may or may not help depending on the player but I think they worth looking into
I've already decided I'm gonna step outside of my comfort zone with dawntrail currently main DRK, SGE, SAM, DNC and RDM depending on what's needed so i levelled BLM exclusively in MSQ roulettes so already decided to main that caster wise in dawntrail, thinking GNB, AST, VPR and BRD for the others complete mix up.
I started with an Arcanist then SCH just to finish ARR and change to MCH immediately because of gun aesthetic. MCH is still my MSQ main, but I love playing healers, just SCH is not my cup of tea. I played WHM after I reached cap of level 60 free trial (back to that day), and I love WHM. After finishing EW MSQ, I started SGE, and I love SGE the most. SGE became my raid main immediately and my sub is WHM (yes, I am capable of playing both H1 and H2 positions). But the cherry on top, I played DNC as well because my friend's main are WHM and SMN, so we can play together as D3-H1 pair or D4-H2 pair (so when positioning mistakes, we don't get angry at rando).
I would have added a small disclaimer with AST and DRG that they are being reworked. As a DRG main, that is kinda scary since my partner is a SMN main and he said they lobotomized it. I’m unsure if MNK has a self damage mit but if it does then DRG is the only melee DPS without one. In rare instances when tank dies and DPS gets aggro, those mits are life saving. I’d also add that DRG’s AOE’s unlock later than other melee DPS’s making them kinda meh in 4 man dungeons up until lv 70-72 when they finally get their third AoE. I understand you’re showing the positives, it’s a fantastic class, but 4 man dungeons can be rough at low levels with a ballsy tank lol Other than my unwarranted input, this is a great video. Wish I would have seen this when I started. My partner said the same exact thing you did about choosing a starting class; go with what you like. Everything is so well-balanced that there isn’t a “superior” class. Also, BLU is the best class ever to use in roulettes and queuing for other content. They are designed solely for roulettes, MSQ, and anything else involving other classes and are NOT forced to play with only their kind like some feral beast :D
Thanks for the video! If you are okay with constructive criticism, there are 3 things I didn't really like how were presented: 1. Having only zoomed angles made some visuals not show their true beauty, especially big AoEs like LB3s. 2. The explanation of each job sounded a bit like just reading off of a script. I know this was most likely the case, but it really made me constantly think about it from the delivery (akin to how many UA-camrs do sponsored segments - just quickly cram what is cool/important about the discussed topic and move on). 3. Somewhat related to point 2, but the moment one job explanation ended, the next immediately began, leaving no time in between and making the transition really jarring. I understand stretching the video unnecessarily is not ideal, but having 5 seconds more after/before each job won't make it too long, and it will make the engagement experience better.
Honestly, it was hard to pick which job I wanted to main. A friend who got me into the game said, level all of them; but pick one main for each role. I main Paladin as Tank, Ninja for Melee DPS, Bard for Ranged DPS, Red Mage for MDPS, and Sage for Healer. Though funny enough, I started as a Arcanist into Summoner lol.
Breaking your 69 (nice) comments here, this guide has reignited an old friend by the name JoCat with his guides of the sort. While very informative and textbook to its core this guide is simply amazing. Though nothing beats a good day fishing. Now, if only that was a disciple of war and has its off-hand updated after so many expansions (lol)!
Started with Marauder which was a Damage Dealer in 1.0 The surprised moment i had to tank something in 2.0 and i had no idea what do to. Good/sad old times
Too bad for harder content (savage/ultimates/extremes) I'm obligated to main healer because of my ping issue, which is usually 200ms+, and I can't do the optimal rotations.... hence I chose Sage
Started a bit after Shadowbringers launched as an archer. Play a bit of everything and enjoy every job in their own way. The only jobs I think are somewhat boring to play are Warrior and Dancer. Mains for each role: Gunbreaker/Dark Knight for Tank, Scholar/Astrologian for Healer, Monk for Melee DPS, Bard for Ranged DPS, Black Mage for Caster. But you really should have mentioned the best job: Blacksmith.
I wanna play Blue Mage on current stuff, its just so fun. Probably my favorite class in all of FF. The power of Nature beats all. But now that I'm thinking on it, should probably play a dps class, so thats why I'm watching.
Small Errata - AST Macrocosmos does only initial cast damage, the following explosion Microcosmos does only heal at potency 200 + 50% compiled damage during Macrocosmos. Also while good video, maybe use a bit of fade between section, the sudden cut was a bit distracting, at least for me :)
Pick the job you think looks coolest he says. Here’s me maining dancer cause sometimes easy button mashing jobs are just what’s needed when you’ve just hopped onto FFXIV after a long day
I’m not new. Been in ARR since launch, I’m a red mage for life and I wanted to tell you. I’m here because I love supporting FFXIVARR content creators! There’s always something new to learn. Thanks for your videos
What I got from the tank section is that Paladin's invulnerability skill makes them an immovable object, while warrior's turns them into an unstoppable force. I started with marauder, btw
Nice vid, maybe I should pick up a couple of new jobs! I didn't realise blm and mnk looked that cool up close, which as a rdm/dnc main is the only thing that matters tbh
I've started with archer/Bard and enjoying it but I keep wanting to try a melee class. Paladin looks like a lot of fun to me and I like the armour. So far I haven't been too impressed with the look of the bard but I'm sure there will be multiple armour looks later to choose from.
Ironically I learned something with this video.

As an BLM addict(psychopath), I always HAVE to play BLM
This is also the first Time hearing that Ninja uses Aiming Ascessoirs
Im more of a Jack Of All Trades 😅
Started with Marauder which was a Damage Dealer in 1.0
The surprised moment i had to tank something in 2.0 and i had no idea what do to.
I only recently started playing ff14, and I started with dragoon. I'm loving the game, but I sometimes get stuck waiting for people for the boss duty
Here’s me maining dancer cause sometimes easy button mashing jobs are just what’s needed when you’ve just hopped onto FFXIV after a long day
I can't get past the Square Enix registration final boss to even play the game, I gave up trying. I wanted to play this game too...
I’m not new. Been in ARR since launch, I’m a red mage for life and I wanted to tell you.
I’m here because I love supporting FFXIVARR content creators! There’s always something new to learn. Thanks for your videos
Come on, giving all melee's in the preview the TOP weapon except NIN, could have given them at least one that looks better then those meaty chunks 😂
What I got from the tank section is that Paladin's invulnerability skill makes them an immovable object, while warrior's turns them into an unstoppable force.
I started with marauder, btw
I dont trust that weird avatar for that very important choice
Your avatar isn’t THAT bad, don’t be too harsh on yourself!
I've been playing since ARR, I still watched this and enjoyed it. Also clearly RDM over BLM.
Yeah totally new.......nearly 600 days playtime starting in stormblood xD i love videos like this even if they really aren't for me.
Paladin: I won't let you get to them!
Warrior: DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME!
Nice vid, maybe I should pick up a couple of new jobs! I didn't realise blm and mnk looked that cool up close, which as a rdm/dnc main is the only thing that matters tbh
Me, watching this video full knowing I’m probably only gonna take Dragoon to Dawntrail: Ah yes, more Rinon content to feast on
All dlc jobs are starting jobs if you use the dlc Skip books LMFAO
FFXIV: Warrior
Wow: warrior
Eso: Dragonknight
Diablo: Barbarian
Warrior all the go
Am i working in getting all my conbat jobs to 90? Yes.
Am i gonna watch the video anyway?
Also yes.
Start black mage so you dont have tou level it up later in the off chance you wanna try it, that's my advice. Also big explosion
ngl paladin looks badass
I've started with archer/Bard and enjoying it but I keep wanting to try a melee class. Paladin looks like a lot of fun to me and I like the armour. So far I haven't been too impressed with the look of the bard but I'm sure there will be multiple armour looks later to choose from.
I started as a marauder, swapped to conjurer, and I'm currently settled into playing scholar 😂 which I'm maining now.
Ah yes, Blue Mage >:)
As someone who has only played bard for the week that I’ve played the game, I will probably come back a few more times 😂
