New CSX vs Shield Plus Part I: Table Top

- The first of two videos focusing on the differences between the CSX and Shield plus from Smith and Wesson. Both guns were released in 2021, the shield plus is a striker fire polymer framed gun, while the CSX is S&W's latest offering and is a Single action all metal micro compact. Both are great guns, but which is better? This first video is strictly a table top comparison. In the next video I compare the CSX and Shield plus side by side at the range and we will see which is best.

My csx trigger started out around 7 pounds...after dryfiring about 500 times it is now 4.5 everytime I weigh it. Only a couple things I would change 1 would be the sleve on 12 round mag....needs to be integrated to base plate ( im sure it will be eventually) and 2. I wish the safety was alittle more stout. The left side in particular flexes in a bit when flipping it on and off a bit on my piece.
That shorter grip literally makes a huge difference when trying to conceal it.
The issue with the 10 round mag is the the spring is not seeded correctly. One has to take the spring out and seed it correctly.
Cool video! I owned both, CSX is my new CCW more comfortable to carry appendix, the shield plus is now the house firearm. Hidden Hybrid Holsters has a holster for the new CSX for about $100 bucks.

I love mine, 400 rounds through it with no issue.
I can load 10 rounds in the 10 rounder but it is tight, but functions fine.
Also, I use a golf tee for the take down.
No complaints with this gun, give me the CSX over any of the other micro 9s.
I’ll stick with my Shield Plus Performance Center optics ready model!! The Shield is a tried a true platform
csx feels 100 times better in the hand....and i bet it shoot flatter even if your plus is ported
@@TheScottyp1 you’re operating on assumptions and subjective opinions I’m operating on facts. I know the Shield works and is a reliable platform that is a very controllable micro 9mm
@@RepentorPerish77 shield is a tried and true platform. One of reasons i love my sig 226 so much. But ya gotta give new designs a chance and imo this is a step in a direction i like alot. I have held both and shot both. Albeit not the p.c. ver, csx shoots better.
@@TheScottyp1 I have given the new platforms a try. I have several. For example I own two or the newer Caniks Elite SC, and Mete SFX and love them both. I’m a huge P10 series fan, and have the P10C and P10F in .45 which is very new. My favorite is my Sig P320 AXG Scorpion so I own, trust, and carry new platforms. I’ve always been a Shield fan and when the plus 4 inch model came out it was a no brainer especially now I can add an optic. To my surprise it handles 9mm very well even on par with my FN 509C MRD which is in my carry rotation. And my variant isn’t ported. I went with the non ported PC model. And have you shot the 4 inch vs the standard length Shield? It make a huge difference in felt recoil
I went back and forth about getting a CSX when I first heard about it but ... I'm sticking with the Shield Plus.
The CSX is still new. It's almost perfect the trigger just sucks. I'm gonna wait till a more update model of it comes out. So I'm probably gonna get a sheild plus or a sheild 45acp

I dont knock the CSX. I think it has potential to be better than the MP Sheild series. They just gotta redo the whole trigger ground up and not make it solid. And not make the thumb safety so tight.

if you can only get 9 rds in a 10 rd magazine, theres "quality control" issues. Most folks that CAN get 10 in the mag are complaining of the mag swelling when doing so and cant get it fully seated into the mag well. As a lefty, im interested in the CSX but will wait till they iron out its issues. Maybe the will make a performance center model with a light rail and optics cut.

That’s what I’m waiting for is a optics cut idk why they didn’t when so many micros out there is coming for it and then they would be also the first in a micro SA Optics ready gun
The mag issue can be resolved by reseating the follower on the spring. It can be easily fixed but you have to be comfortable disassembling the mag.

Great little gun I just bought a csx. Shot 500 rounds thru it and love it. I got a couple holsters coming for it, I’m using a wrong holster like you right now but it works. Weird you can’t get 10 rounds, mine works perfect. Hope S&w starts selling spare mags soon. Also I really want night sights for it too.

Hmm I am in the market for another carry gun. I like both of the smiths but Im leaning towards the csx. I still need to go see them both
I’ll keep my shield plus and wait for the csx plus performance center when it comes out in a couple years.
The CSX not feeding properly while the mag is full is a big issue. Hope this isn’t an issues on all the guns going forward. Good video!
I agree, I was pretty upset when I first realized it…they should have just labeled it a nine round or fixed it to hold ten properly before labeling it a 10…side effect of the capacity craze going on I guess. Thanks for stopping by Gear Barrel!

@@BrandonD they gotta redo the trigger because it feels like a smartphone volume button. If they make the trigger like the Sheild plus it would be 5/5 perfect. As of now it's a 4/5

Thanks for stopping by Burna43. I do have a video on the Hellcat see below. I’ll consider making one, I do have a buddy who has a hellcat, though I’ll be honest I prefer the SW Shield over it.. I started shooting the CSX side by side with the Shield Plus, and I was surprised. I don’t want to spoil the outcome, but hopefully I’ll have the footage by next week.

Some springs inside 10 round mags have come off the follower inside and this creates added pressure. Easy fix
honestly kind of surprised they wouldn't just stay with the same magazines for these two pistols.
Some of the ten Rd mags were assembled wrong at the factory. You can take it apart and set the spring properly and it will fix the issue.
Thanks Chris, I didn’t know that for sure, but have been planning on disassembling it to see what was going on…when compared to the 12rd which works fine, proportionately it didn’t make sense there would be a problem with fitting 10. Thanks

Loved the gun, but sold it to my best friend as his first pistol, wanted him to have a good one.

I have the Shield Plus and I love it but I really like how this CSX is set up like a 1911 with the cock and lock so I am seriously thinking of getting this also!
I like them both, can’t go wrong with either.

There are a few holsters made for the CSX. No reson to try to make another holster work.

If you have no problem knocking the safety off on guns when you draw then why are you not a fan of safeties

Nice. Wish mine did, but one round either way is not a deal breaker for me.
There is nothing wrong with you 10 round mag. The problem is that the follower is not connected to the spring properly. Take the mag apart, connect the follower to the spring and reassemble. You will then be able to get 10 rounds into the mag and it will seat properly into the gun.
Why would there be compatibility it’s two different platforms lol
Smith & Wesson should be ashamed of themselves, a very well established company, rushes out a compact firearm, and it has not been the same for everyone who brought one, and at a price of $609 is ridiculous, just my opinion!

Shield plus doesn’t have a ten round magazine. Did you do your homework before you started?
You might be thinking of the shield 2.0 or standard shield. Both of the shield plus models I have came with a 10rd. I’m looking at one now ;)
