Lucas is a real pro! It is so easy for food show hosts to come across as pretentious or overbearing. He's got this calm natural enthusiasm and the confidence to let his interviewees talk, and give a clear direct and personal narration of the food he's eating. "I can hear it in my back molars, the squeak!".
Big Mike seems like such a good guy & had his back catalog of Dining on a Dime episodes down pat. Great to see a chef being a fan of Lucas' Academy and Tony award winning work.
I ate at Chez Tousignant, and I appreciate the remix but there's no beating the classic Poutine and Montreal Hot Dog. Try Chez Claudette (My favorite for a poutine and steamie combo) or any Belle Province for those two, and the Montreal Pool Room, and Restaurant AA and Green Spot in St Henri, and la Pataterie in Hochelaga, and even Mont Royal Hot Dog on the Plateau and Décarie Hot Dog in St Laurent, even if they've gotten pricey.
I just ate at this place the other day, that big mike burger is one of the best burgers I’ve had in my life. This place isn’t cheap tho, the big mike was $13, just the burger alone. That might be fine if you’re alone but this place gets pricey for a family.
Yeah at $9USD it's not cheap for sure... In Australia I can get a super yummy burger made with fresh items from local fish n chip place for around $6-8 AUD ($4-6 USD)
you make up for it in other places though .. aus is generally quite expensive and usually far pricier then much of canada. it also doesn't mean you can't get cheaper food in canada, or more expensive food in aus !
Yeah you are right, just depends on the area you go to and how popular a place gets, was just throwing out a number that I tend to pay for a burger in my area, but if I were in the CBD paying $12-15 AUD for a burger alone wouldn't be super rare.

Been living 10 minutes away from this place for over 2 years but never been! Mainly because we never actually plan to eat this kind of food over here, it's something that usually just happens, often when under a certain influence, and typically in the wee hours, when few places are still open. But I'll try to give this place a go some time.
I'm from ontario. And the best burger I have ever had was at a place in anjou montreal the restaurant which is also a brewery la brassiere. Needs no condiments this burger. It's amazing...
Never heard a native French speaker say poutine, but being Belgian and French being my second language I can definitely say that that certainly isn’t how you’d pronounce “poutine”
How did Lucas, who is decently multilingual, get corrected on the pronunciation of poutine and then end up mispronouncing it even more (and like a swear word, of all things) lmao.
gotta be honest. i dont want soggy fries. ever. duck fat in portland ME makes a great poutine with super crispy fries. maybe its not "authentic" but its much more satisfying for me
I like how the Italian guy can juggle English, French (given that he lives in Montreal there's no way he can speak french with an accent & not get judged) & Italian without a specific accent shadowing the other 2. Kudos to you on that chef.
Thank you Eater and Lucas for these awesome videos in Montreal. I cant wait for my family trip around Canada next month. Moms the trip planner but im the food guy lol
That's a really classic Casse-Croute. Definitely one to hit up for anyone after an authentic experience. But it's in a part of town where few tourists would ever end up. Anyone who went to Vanier or lives in the area knows that place is the bomb.
Man I've never even heard of chez Tousignant. I'll head over there this week.
Marc-André B I know that place mainly because one of the co-owners is Stefano Faita... still haven't been though!
Since I sadly can't go there as I am not in the country, please eat some for me as well!

Bref, there's better for cheaper. The emperor has no clothes ;)
Decarie hotdog is life for hotdogs but theres better poutine in mtl..
Chez ma tante best hot dogs...
@Quietloud Chez Claudette, Chez Tousignant, Green Spot (good thick brown gravy), Montreal Pool Room, Rotisserie Romados, Ma Poule Mouillee, Sharwarmaz
Lucas beats out all other food critics. He is the only one that can describe the food so that the viewers can "taste" the food.
This guy knows what's up. His description of poutine shows that he's someone who really understands the essence and soul of what is poutine.

Lucas not your first rodeo to Montreal. They appreciate you speaking en francais. Glad you seem to be having a fun time in our neck of the woods.
Why is Lucas not on Netflix? He is the best at describing food whereas many still go YUM YUM YUM - Asian Food Nerd IG

I'm late to this series. I dig it.
I LOVED the BIG ED burger from Moes.. Too bad they closed.. I will go check this out. Thanks for the vid!
tousignant literally sounds like Tous Saignant (french) which means All Bloody
It's also just a last name, which a quick Google says is derived from Toussaint (All Saints).
I agree! This is the greatest burger in Montreal
" I'm coming to to Little Italy to buy a burger." Lol.
At least he's not going to Chinatown to liquidate somebody.
The more burger joints appear in Montreal the fewer squirrels I see on the mountain.
