@@Davidsmusicselection That's what I was thinking. When I looked into this, everybody who did the swap said the S10 rear is not strong enough for a V8.
I'm so happy that all the drivers we have are 4 wheel disk brakes, so much easier to work on and they stop. Some of the Mopar guys used to try and find 72 imperial rear disk brake setups to retrofit rear disks on older big Mopar muscle cars. I personally bought a complete running 74 Dart 4 door for 150 because it had big bolt front disk brakes to put on my Dart. I asked him if the brakes worked and would it drive 5 miles and handed him the cash. Just the basic brake setup 2as worth 350 bucks even then and I got everything needed from that car.
I think it's hilarious the tiny amount of rust coming off this thing, go watch a South Main Auto video, a few whacks with the hammer and more rust will come off stuff he works on than the entirety of this project! Not to mention something this old would already long be in the junkyard in the rust belt, too.
I don’t care that JR gets free cars, sponsorships or freebies right, left and center, this guy probably works 12-14 hours a day between one thing and another. Tip, when a wheel won't come off, put the lugs back on loosely and drop the truck back on the ground. If it still won't go, roll back and forth a few times... and yes, spraying penetrating fluid around the hub center is important too

G-body dirt track parts (upper control arms with extended ball joints, in particular, and roll center adjusters) will massively improve the way this thing drives.
You can get front steering knuckles off a 2wd blazer and then swap in 2 piston front brakes. You can also use the front springs off a ANY non zq8 s10 for a higher spring rate.

Xtreme S10’s are pretty rare these days. Most people don’t know they held .85 G’s on a skid pad on snow tires. Little known background. Glenn Hotchkiss was brought in to help develop the ZQ8 suspension after the Syclone didn’t get the suspension upgrades they wanted due to budget constraints. It was originally intended to have a supercharged 4.3, but GM shut it down as it was performing equal to the Corvette, and they didn’t want to put the upgraded transmission in it. GM didn’t want another super truck giving their top tier car a black eye. The V6 trucks have an 8.5” rear end, which oddly enough still made it to production despite being unnecessary after they dumped the extra power and 6 speed. You may have issues finding parts for it. It was the best handling production truck made up to that point. Had it launched with the boosted 4.3, it would have been an icon. Instead they went the opposite direction and made the standard V6 the top tier, and offered a 4 cylinder in most trucks. They were never meant to be offered as such. It was supposed to be a V6 with the standard drivetrain, or a boosted 4.3 with an 8.5” rear and a 6 speed. Glad to see you’re going all in with this. Finding good examples in this day and age is next to impossible, and they’re fun little trucks even without the extra power.

It’s going to be an awesome build series keep it up.
I love s10s thanks for saving this one
Awesome truck and i know about crap falling in your eyes. Thanks for restoring the LS10-R. The only thing that would set it off...if it had Blue Ovals.....lol.
I’m alllll about this resto, my good hs buddy had an Extreme brand new out of the Marines in 2002. Great truck like the Tacoma Xrunner
LSR-10 Extreme going to be a nice project.
Who the heck said to scrap that?! Unless you're punching holes through the frame with your hand, it has life in her.
