I'm so happy that all the drivers we have are 4 wheel disk brakes, so much easier to work on and they stop. Some of the Mopar guys used to try and find 72 imperial rear disk brake setups to retrofit rear disks on older big Mopar muscle cars.
I personally bought a complete running 74 Dart 4 door for 150 because it had big bolt front disk brakes to put on my Dart. I asked him if the brakes worked and would it drive 5 miles and handed him the cash. Just the basic brake setup 2as worth 350 bucks even then and I got everything needed from that car.

I think it's hilarious the tiny amount of rust coming off this thing, go watch a South Main Auto video, a few whacks with the hammer and more rust will come off stuff he works on than the entirety of this project! Not to mention something this old would already long be in the junkyard in the rust belt, too.

People don’t realize just how rare cool factory options & trims were in the 90’s & early 00’s. The Extreme & The Nissan Frontier with the Rockford Fosgate audio were among the rare exceptions.
Now, alloy wheels & factory body kits are the norm, to the point that you just don’t see aftermarket rims on cars and you rarely see custom decks in the dash.

Xtreme S10’s are pretty rare these days. Most people don’t know they held .85 G’s on a skid pad on snow tires.
Little known background. Glenn Hotchkiss was brought in to help develop the ZQ8 suspension after the Syclone didn’t get the suspension upgrades they wanted due to budget constraints.
It was originally intended to have a supercharged 4.3, but GM shut it down as it was performing equal to the Corvette, and they didn’t want to put the upgraded transmission in it. GM didn’t want another super truck giving their top tier car a black eye.
The V6 trucks have an 8.5” rear end, which oddly enough still made it to production despite being unnecessary after they dumped the extra power and 6 speed. You may have issues finding parts for it.
It was the best handling production truck made up to that point. Had it launched with the boosted 4.3, it would have been an icon. Instead they went the opposite direction and made the standard V6 the top tier, and offered a 4 cylinder in most trucks. They were never meant to be offered as such. It was supposed to be a V6 with the standard drivetrain, or a boosted 4.3 with an 8.5” rear and a 6 speed.
Glad to see you’re going all in with this. Finding good examples in this day and age is next to impossible, and they’re fun little trucks even without the extra power.

For engine compartment space you should add Hydra-boost off of an Astro Van and change the steering gear from a mid eighties Monte Carlo LS for better lock to lock steering! On the rear brakes you can convert over to disk brakes off a blazer and add a proportioning valve!

You might want to grease those cardan joints in the driveshaft, you need a needle grease gun tip. Also the true zq8 handling package has a hop shock for axle wrap, thats the bracket on the top right side of the differential. Mostly found on standard trans trucks, but makes a big improvement.

Get one of those neodymium magnets - if you get some rust in your eye those will pull it right out. Had a big chunk fall off my Ranger when I was working on it, took the magnet, ran it along the edge of my eyelid and eyeball, and it sucked the pieces right out easy as pie. Should do a flat tray like us Aussies do with the HQ Ute.
Flat tray with wheel arches built into the tray and can use gas struts to tilt tray when you need to get under there

I love that you’re saving the truck! Don’t know why anyone would want to send it to the junker.

Who would hate on this truck? I would go 1200hp drag truck but protouring is good also. 600hp that can turn will make for a sweet combo.

Absolutely. These are the last of the Mini trucks. Buy any mini truck you see without rust.

Who the heck said to scrap that?! Unless you're punching holes through the frame with your hand, it has life in her.
