All the memories are flooding back from that trip. What a special time for only the three of us to be there with the US border closed and right before the fires changed the park for the rest of our lifetimes. Cheer Bud!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer You will be surprised how quickly the green comes back. Fire is as life giving to our boreal forest as water and sunlight. I remember the fires in Nopiming in early 80's, in fact we were forced evacuated from south Nopiming for a fire and you would not know it now. Nice to see the passion for the outdoors in a young person today. Many are missing out.
Man I met you just over a year ago now in Sarnia writing our red seal test! Amazing what you do man. I'm heading out to Alaska with the truck solo and making many stops along the way. I was raised on the water in a canoe. Need to do a solo trip like this!
Awesome!! I remember talking to you outside in the parking lot! I definitely recommend doing a solo like this! It is an incredible experience! Enjoy Alaska!! Ill get there one day!
What company flew you in? Did they take your canoe ahead of time. I had one company that would not fly my kayak. Thankfully i was in the Park in 2006.... actually saw a caribou, and a big back black swim across the lake about 300 feet away... dont think he even saw us.
Very nice!! I flew with Superior Airways from Red Lake. Awesome guys! The canoe was strapped to the struts above the float. Caribou are very special to see, I’ve had some incredible encounters that I’ll never forget!
Some of the best pictures I have ever seen taken of moose, I spent some quality time in woodland caribou, just a beautiful place, I never thought you could top it until I started doing trips to wabakimi park,
Thank you!! I seem to get super lucky with my wildlife encounters! Woodland has always felt more remote to me than Wabakimi. Never seen many people in Woodland. Can’t say the same for Wabakimi. Many lodges! Both beautiful places
@@The-Dutch-Explorer I was hoping you would have made it to irregular lake, it's one of the very few remote musky lakes, I caught a few nice ones back in the day, your fishing skills are some of the best I have seen on UA-cam from a canoe,
@JjjToken iT was in my plans! But the huge fire on Eagle Lake expanded so far cutting right across the portages and I had to alter my route several times due to fires! I was 100% going after some muskies!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer I had the same issue last July on the north east side of wabakimi, I had to alter my trip to the southern portion of the park, the past few years have been a nightmare for fires, I noticed the fires on eagle from your video, the wind was on your side for most of the trip, the smoke can be unbearable,
I finished the six hours.... and it took you 28 days! Why not a pfd in heavy water?.... you're a role model for the kids. There are some long solo trips on UA-cam, but this was very good because you have a different approach... very even keel. Little boating joke there. Excellent trip and excellent job by you. I do worry about that 50 pound loss.... that can't be healthy.
I appreciate your words! Where are you from? I’ve gotten a lot better at wearing my pdf since this trip. The 50 pounds was ok. I had extra weight on me and the trip was hot and very physical every single day. I felt stronger than ever my friend!! Physically and mentally!
Greetings from Ontario. I love your videos and wish I could do a far north trip like this. I’m in my 60’s now so I have to be more selective in my trips, because I mostly solo. The only comment I offer is that as a role model for many younger paddlers, I wish you would wear your pfd. Although experienced paddlers may balk at the idea, many younger paddlers don’t have the experience to “read” the water and could end up dead. I wear my pfd all the time - in shallow water I wear a manual inflatable; in deep water I wear my Eddy. I like to follow the historical aspects, where pfds weren’t common, but my goal is to collect my pension longer than I paid into it, so I’ll accept a pfd as a necessary evil. Just my thoughts from the peanut gallery. Otherwise, love your videos. I film my trips but only for personal use, so I don’t edit- you however, do a wonderful job.
Thank you! I appreciate your comment! This trip was in 2021. I’ve gotten better since then but still don’t ALWAYS wear my PFD. I know the importance and I’m starting to like wearing it more and more actually. Thank you for watching!
Not trying to be preachy. It’s just over my working career I dealt with several drownings - all of them preventable. Stay safe and keep the keel side down. Cheers.
I'm now an hour and half in. Like the best videos, you make us feel like this is in real time. Sometime, assuming connectivity, I'd love to see live streaming on a video. ... no pun intended. It appears that you cast and reel right handed. I do the same, but every fishing video I watch, the person casts right handed and reels left... and looks awkward. I assume this is in case of a quick strike? Portage less. Fish more. What a mantra. Thankfully, I guess, I can't portage any more.
Thank you!! I’m not sure what others do with their fishing rod but what I do seems to be pretty effective for me!😁 how come you can’t portage anymore? I’m happy to virtually take you along!!👌
3+ hours in. Longest movie I've every watched...I think. Stop catching so many fish. jk..... So, your trail buddies know your name....did you tell us yours? If so, I forgot already. Do you have an on-line gallery of your photo work? It's weird having to remind myself that this trip is not occurring as I watch it.
They do know my name!! The only people I ran in to, I happened to know! My name is Koen Tholhuijsen. I don’t have a gallery of my pictures but there is lots on Facebook and Instagram. And no!! I will always keep catching tons of fish!! lol🤪
I was born and raised in Minnesota but moved away after college. With the family, we took about 20 trips to Northern Minnesota. My second wife and I took our first trip to Canada in 2006.... with her or my son, we've been back about 8 or 9 times.... my wife kayaked, my son and I fished 12 to 14 hours a day. I did catch your name at the end of your summary on the 6 hour video. Because of my wife's job in St. Louis, we now live in sw Illinois. I'll be going to Northern Minnesota in June with a new inflatable kayak that has a small motor that connects to skeg slot. Then Canada probably in September. I just watched an episode of Lost Lakes where Jon had the worst solo trip of his life. He is a fulltime UA-camr. Too long, too much information. Sorry.
Greetings from a fellow Dutchy (but from the Netherlands).
Thanks for letting us join you on your adventure.
Enjoyed it very much.
Thanks! I appreciate it! In Mei kom ik waarschijnlijk weer even terug naar Nederland.
That was enchanting! Totally immersive adventure. Thankyou for letting me tag along.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Wonderful job.
Waving from Kent, Wa. I plan to watch more of your awesome videos ❤ Nice work.

Extremely special for sure!!! I’ll be going back there somewhat regularly I think. I want to see haven lake post fires.

I loved the soundtrack of this video. Perfect for this kind of trip.
I appreciate that!! Finding the music is probably what takes up most time in all the editing! Thanks! 🙏🏼
Very nice video 😊greetings from Sweden
Thank you!! Greetings back from a Dutchman in Canada🇨🇦
8 minutes in and you've caught so many fish 🐟. I bet your had a great time.
It was magical!! Lots of growth happening during this trip in many ways!
Enjoyed that very much!

Absolutely geogeous video....what time of year did you go?
