In this 9th and last part to the series, I am on Lake Winnipeg and try to make my way South to my end destination; Manigotagan. The calm beautiful paddling days that I've had on the lake have changed into a very strong consistent wind and I get hit by a very intense boreal storm while on a little island. It gives me the opportunity to take the first rest day. For about 20 days I had been traveling every single day, putting in the distance. It was actually pretty nice to be forced to stay put and just take in how far I have come. Besides, there is a lot worse places in the world to get stuck!
The end of my trip plans was slightly altered but it worked out for the better! I got to see some pretty spectacular wildlife on my new route and had another magical morning on a river! See for yourself!

What an amazing river! And to end it with Lake Winnipeg showing you her beauty and her cranky side and yet still having lots of wildlife encounters. Thanks for bringing us along! It was an incredible trip.
It absolutely was! Another one for in the memory bank! Thanks for watching!!
Loved this series - thank you for sharing! Donation made - more than worth that much for the enjoyment of living vicariously through your adventures!
Thank you soo much!! That makes my day!! Much appreciated!!🙏🏼
Good Morning!! Thank you - thank you - thank you…we are thrilled that you have posted the final episode of your Bloodvein/Lake Winnipeg adventure. Your photography, your love of the land (which we are very familiar with, but further south on the same side of the lake - Victoria Beach ), the wild life, your positive attitude, your respect for this huge, ever changing lake, and more…are all special! You’ve made this Sunday morning special, too. So, now we look forward to your next video and adventure - keep working those 11 months so you can explore the 12th!!! Just to let you know that we love your native country, too, having spent several weeks enjoying the Netherlands! Cheers!
Thank you soo much!! I really appreciate that! It is a stunning area and I’ll be back there one day I’m sure!So many more islands to explore there! I’m actually going back to the Netherlands for a week next month! Its been too long! Thanks again!! Cheers!
Another gem! Thank you for sharing this; it was an inspiring adventure and you did such a beautiful job filming, editing and putting it all together.
Thanks soo much!! It was highlights for 24 days straight!! I’ll probably do this trip again one day. Great memories and I would love to re-visit my friends in Bloodvein! Thanks for watching!
Bravo. Your story telling and videography are top notch. Your approach to spending 24 days solo is inspiring . I always enjoy watching your Canadian adventure videos and the effort it takes to make them. Keep exploring Canada.
Thank you sir! In about 2 weeks its time for a 30 day solo😁 I appreciate the kind words!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer Be safe. Enjoy. Relax and focus on your video to some degree and you will be fine. Can't wait for the new trip video!!

I agree!! She’s beautiful and we have to take good care of her. Miigwetch for watching! 🙏🏼
aaah the wildlife!! wow those bears!! amazing footage!
Dude that storm was epic!!! Sooo cool
Oh man!!! I still cant believe how much the lake rose just overnight!! Thats a huuuge lake!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer Please don't take the fact I had a chuckle with your comment as disrespect. Lake Winnipeg or as we call it Big Windy is affected by the wind and the reason for the higher water level. You were enjoying a more southern wind allowing travel. Also allowed water to flow into the bigger north basin of the lake. When that northwest wind which is our prevailing wind took over and windbound you it also tries to force water out of the north basin into the south end. That is what causes the increased water level.
Barometric pressure also causes lake Winnipeg levels to change slightly.
Great series. What an awesome adventure. Your outdoor skills have improved but not as much as your filmmaking. This is truly a professional grade documentary. Well done and congratulations on completing such a challenging journey
Thank you soo much!!! That means a lot to me! Much appreciated!! 🙏🏼
Gosh lake Winnipeg is so beautiful dude. Also beautiful narration!
Yes it is!! Go check it out some time dude!!!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer must
Thanks man!😁 on to the next one!!
Another awesome series!! Thanks for sharing
You are most welcome!! Thank you for following along!
Epic trip, absolutely inspirational! 🤙🏻
Your animal shots were awesome! 👏🏻
Thanks soo much! Epic it was!!👌
beautiful ending well done brother!
Thank you man!! Another epic adventure for in the books!!
The Dutch Explorer, Wow, this made my day brighter! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!!🙏🏼
Well done, brilliant series Koen. The Bloodvein is definitely now on my bucket list.
Thanks Walt. Do it!! You wont regret it!
I think I've now watched all of your videos twice. For some reason, I've enjoyed them more the second time. Maybe got use to your understated style. The high price gear. The humility. I've literally watched hundreds of back country canoe trips and you rank among the best for me. Yet, I don't think I even know your name. Do your friends call you "Dutch."? I still think your still fame work is incredible.
Thanks soo much! I really appreciate that! My name is Koen. Born and raised in the Netherlands but now living in Canada. Thank you for your kind words!
Beautiful...gorgeous video!
Thank you very much! Its easy to make beautiful videos in such a beautiful area!😉
Been eagerly awaiting this last installment. Well done! I had no idea Lake Winnipeg was so beautiful.
Hoping to do the Bloodvein this summer. Anxiously watching water levels.
Thank you!! I did not know either but since it is in the boreal forest, i figured it cant be that bad. And mostly unpopulated! I think water levels would be good this year. Low if anything. I wouldn’t wait till late in the season!
Wow!!!!!
Great video, just wish you posted more often! I am working in Eindhoven this week, greetings from Holland!👍🍻
Bedankt weer!! Ik kom volgende week ook weer eens naar Nederland voor n kort maar gezellig weekje met de familie! Even op en neer om mn verjaardag te vieren😁
Awesome camping/canoe adventure, that storm reminds me of a storm i went through back in September of 2019 during a bicycle/camping adventure. Crazy lightning and tons of rain most of the night.
Thanks!! It definitely one I’ll remember!! Im glad I was high up on a rock and no water pooled where I set up my tent!
Wonderful journey, beautiful nature and wildlife shots and amazing courage. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks soo much!!🙏🏼
Great trip and videos, would love to do that trip.
Thank you!! What is stopping you?
Absolutely amazing. Nice sound thanks for sharing your adventure. Guys I recommended you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak.add this sound in your bucket list.
Thanks! Its on the lost already!👌
Thanks so much for your incredible photography and Videography, as well as your narration and taking us along. Just love seeing a new vid from you and enjoy being there with you in spirit. Still want to see that spray deck :). Hope the coming season brings more of this fantastic content!
I appreciate that!! I just got a new canoe that is a lot lighter and more suitable for further outfitting with spraydeck and such! One step closer again! Lots of little steps but I’ll get there! Thanks soo much for your support!!
By far my favourite paddler to watch, congrats on this trip. Getting me excited to start the paddling season, can't wait for more of your adventures.
Wow, thanks soo much!! Got any trips planned for the season?
@@The-Dutch-Explorer well super far north so still snow in the bush and ice on the lakes, here's hoping to head to The Shoals first as soon as it is open, might depend on the black flies!
@amorimontagnus2042 sweet! I thought about paddling the Mississagi. Thats in that general area isnt it? Looks stunning!!
Good morning my partner 😚😂 hey,if you ever come across some fresh seagull eggs especially the small ones..boil em and eat em 😋👍 or wait until you come to my home lake of reindeer lake Saskatchewan 🙂 that would be some adventure with you.
Ill keep that in mind!! And its a given I’ll be on Reindeer Lake some day!!👌 thanks!!
somehow this dropped off my radar, after watching the first few episodes months ago. Glad I remembered to look this up again. It's getting close to August. got another one planned?
Funny timing! I just got out of Wabakimi for 28 days just 2 days ago!
Ouch 11 months of grind for 1 month of life! Ontario cost of living must be brutal. I'm lucky to own a country home in Nova Scotia with my parents, we tried to move to Ontario from Alberta a couple years back but the prices there were like a mean joke. Only place I could afford to live in Ontario is my 4Runner! I'd do it though, just for the canoeing.
Maybe I should just live out of my Tacoma! Ontario is brutal for sure. But I do what I can!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer well it's a great way to spend more time in the bush if you don't have any conflicting commitments, I'm dreaming up a year of overland lifestyle in Ontario, and a year in Newfoundland & Labrador. My rig and my huskies are ready to go. I just have to work and save until I can fund the adventures.
Gonna miss this series Koen, absolutely loved watching it! Brilliantly shot and edited, can't wait to see more. What have you got this year?
Thanks soo much!! I am honestly not 100% sure what is happening this year. I’m trying to scramble a good long solo together but it has been a struggle!
Noooo! I'm sure you'll get something together. I've got Wabakimi this year, same trop Joe took a couple of years ago (Wendell Beckwith's cabin, etc). Did Kopka last year, was pretty cool.
@MattGoesOutside the trip I am trying to do has a HUGE part of Wabakimi in it and ends up on the Kopka on Bukemiga. 3 weeks from now is when my time off starts so time is ticking. Have a great trip!
@@The-Dutch-Explorer I did that section, there's some awesome canoeing to be had along there. I have a vid if it I can send you, if you want to see it.
@MattGoesOutside absolutely, you can send it to me on facebook or instagram!
Koen, just worried bout ya, how are you
Great video to wake up to and watch while eating breakfast. Thanks . Quick question if you have time . When you went to the island to read at noon and get out of the sun you put up a tarp. I didn’t see a ridgeline so how did you get that nice bend in it to stake out to the ground?
Thanks Cliff! My tarp is a pretty amazing tarp and is strong and stretchy enough to use the center line of the tarp itself as ridge line. It is a MEC silicone guide tarp that sadly they don’t make anymore. I love mine and I dread the day it is going to give in!! Because of my previous experience working on tallships, sailing around the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea, I need the tarp to be trimmed perfectly as if it were a sail!😅
@@The-Dutch-Explorer Well, your tarp game is strong and admired greatly. I'd like to see a "how to" tarp video by you to be honest, but understand it may not be the kind of content you create.
Great trip! Well done!
Thank you!🙏🏼
