Thanks Donald! My knee is all good and strong as ever before. Good lesson though. A 90 lbs canoe on a trip like this takes its toll on the body. I don’t recommend it no matter what shape you are in… but it is all my budget could afford and still be able to pull of a trip like this so… would I do it again? Most certainly yes!! (A lighter whitewater canoe is high up on my list)
We bring an inner liner of plastic that is a foot longer and wider than the tent. 4 mil needs to go up the sides of the tent a few inches. You won’t get wet then. It’s something Cliff Jacobson an American canoe writer advocates big time for. It works I’m a believer now! We still use our footprints as well to protect the tent.
I do wish I had eaten more fish at the start of the trip! I really should have! And you should absolutely go, it is one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen! Thanks for watching!
I've watched several of your trips now. Why don't you seem to have a bug problem? You've had some hot days. Still very much enjoying your work. I can relate to the knee... putting off surgery so I can be in the boat this spring. How your knee holds up is a testament to your strength and resolve. The use of the still shoots is really nice.
Much appreciated, thank you!! I do tend to get super lucky with the bugs!! (Or without the bugs rather) the knee is all good now and I’m working on getting a much lighter canoe and that can still take a beating! I hope your knee is alright too!!
I'd be having a hard time getting anywhere with all those walleye around! I think after everything I've tried so far they're still my favorite fish. I could do walleye for dinner, and pre-made wally sandwiches for lunch the next day, and still be stoked for dinner. Needs onions though. Those dry fried ones are perfect for trips. And garlic! And schishimi togarashi spice blend. 😭
Haha! I’m getting hungry just reading this😂 walleye is definitely the best eating fish up there. Brooktrout might be better but its not even really fair to compare them, they are so different!
This is quite a trip. That bannock looked good even if I’d did have raisins in it 😆 Try an M&M and crushed walnuts bannock sometime. If you add cocoa powder it’s like a brownie
Thanks soo much! I used topo maps I found online for free from several sources. Then I added the details from haps book, the adventure map, several older trip reports and such. Extremely time consuming but well worth it!
Hey Koen are the local Anishnabe ok with filming the pictographs on the Bloodvein? I’m assuming they are, just thought I’d ask. Pictographs in Quetico are not to be photographed or filmed.
Good question! I honestly never got a 100% clear answer on this and I think it really depends on who you ask but I have never talked to anyone that says it is not ok. On the Pimachiowin-Aki website there is a few pictures and videos of the pictographs as well and from talking to several Anishinaabe it is more about respecting these sites. In my videos I’m also trying to demonstrate this by showing the viewers I’m putting down tobacco at every pictograph site. I do know that there is several sites that are more sacred and they do not want to disclose some of these locations.
@@The-Dutch-Explorer there was one particular pictograph on Cirrus Lake in Quetico that I needed to see, that was the reason I went back for the third year in a row. I would have loved to photograph it just for myself, but a local elder said no pics or vids, so I absolutely respect that. I forgot my tobacco but quietly thanked the spirits….it was a rather emotional moment for me.
You are the calm , bright, peacefulness this World needs 😊
You certainly film more wildlife than most people. Thanks for the ride.
I’ve been getting extremely lucky so far!! Thanks for watching!
Great video, and knee problems suck for just about anything, except sitting on a couch watching your video 😃

Thanks for taking us along.
You are very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Awesome
Thank you! 🙏🏼

I might have to try that some time. My msr tent usually holds the water out really well! And of course I know Cliff, he’s a legend!😉 🛶
Good Lad. Enjoyed. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Larry!
It's good to know that a strong cup of Wintergreen Tea acts as a anti-inflamatory/pain killer.
love your content, absolutely beautiful scenery. well done 👍.
Thanks Adam, I appreciate it!🙂
Geweldige video weer, bedankt.
Heel graag gedaan! Bedankt voor het kijken!!! Ik denk dat je weer bijna bij bent!😅
Great video, and great looking trip!
Thanks Kevin, I wish I was still out there!
Love it all except that "fun" of all that catch and release. It's not harmless.
Freakin Beautiful, the sceneries not bad either... lol. Seriously tho My Dude you are Beautiful inside & out... Love your outlook on life...❤❤❤
😍 Prachtig!
Great adventure. Beautiful video.
Thank you 🙏🏼
What an awesome river to paddle. The burned out section was spectacular. Such beauty in devastation . Thanks again Koen for sharing your trip.
Thanks Walt! The burnt areas have their own kind of magic over them.
What a trip! Gonna start planning for this in 2024. Not enough fish were eaten during the making of this film 😝
I do wish I had eaten more fish at the start of the trip! I really should have! And you should absolutely go, it is one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen! Thanks for watching!
Nice bannock! I bring standard bannock with but never make it. Pretty sure I’d make that if I had it on trip!
You should! Its an awesome treat!!
Wow…just wow! Your journeys call to my soul. Thanks for sharing
Thank you! It was quite the trip!

Oh man, that sounds wicked!! Definitely going to try that!!
Well done! You are capturing the heart of the land with your videography! Love the maps as well! What sources did you use for the maps?

Do you not eat fish?...man I'd be eating walleye every night
I do but I wanted to lighten my load first and eat some of the food I brought!
Very nice video, but yuou should eat Walleye it is very good for the knees, and also try putting some tobacco on it, the spirit might help the cure.
I will definitely try that next time! I have a lot to learn! And I do wish I ate more walleye especially early on in the trip! Thank you! 🙏🏼
wow..i think im falling in love with you man....are you single?...lol..have a great autumn..my favorite season..
we got pictographs here too on reindeer lake saskatchewan..3 reservations and many lodges on reindeer lake..
😂 I like the fall too! Several trips coming up!
I wish you wouldn't let the fish flop around and damage themselves. What is the sense in pulling them out only to damage themselves.
You think I do that on purpose?
Eww... Papyrus. Plz, stop.
Whats wrong with it? I think it suits the videos
