- How to fall asleep fast? Please watch this video in order to learn some tips on how to fall asleep fast and hopefully stay asleep longer.
As always, I believe that trying out lifestyle changes before using prescriptions sleep medications for insomnia is ideal, whenever possible. In this video I will go over some tips on things you can do during daytime, evening hours, and for your bedtime routine to help the cause of getting you to fall asleep faster.
Everyone's situation is different: we all have different stressors, have different medical issues, are on different medications, have different body types and lifestyles. But, hopefully you can take away one or more tips to help you get some better, restful sleep. Which is elusive and a big source of frustration for many.
Some of these tips may seem obvious to you, but look in the mirror and ask yourself honestly, are you doing everything discussed in the video to the best of your ability? If not, consider if you need to work on some of these areas.
If you found any of the tips helpful, please subscribe to my channel as I will make sure to include a discussion about sleep medications (prescription, over the counter, and supplements) in some of my upcoming videos and address some of your questions as well in a Q&A video.
Thank you for your support and encouragement as always.

I’ve had insomnia for about a year now due to menopause and I don’t even see how I’m functioning somedays! I average maybe 2-3 hrs and some nights 0!! 😩 I’ll try your advice and thank you for taking the time to help others!
I am sorry to hear that! That is such little sleep to be running on, you must be exhausted during the daytime hours. I hope, whether it's some tips here or elsewhere that you can find a solution to help you sleep better. If particular symptoms like hot flashes or night sweats are particularly tough symptoms as part of your experience, it would be worth talking to your physician if you haven't already, for some options to target those.

Thank you. Your advice is so straightforward, practical and clear. 😀
Brian sent me I have severe sleep apnea just got a mask so hard to keep on I actually rip it off while I’m sleeping I’m on night five so I’m trying really hard I have severe anxiety also. Thank you for your advice
It is very tough Nikki. You are not alone. Many patients find it a struggle to keep on the masks. But it is super super important to not give up on it. Literally, your brain is being deprived of oxygen at night when you have sleep apnea. Using the cpap as long as possible will make a big difference. If it ends up being a struggle, you should ask your sleep doctors for advice on maybe a different type of mask: they have the full face masks, nasal, and nasal pillow masks as the most common types. As another option, some patients might be appropriate to get something called “Inspire”, which is a small device that is implanted and helps you breathe at night without a cpap device and mask. Hopefully you can work with your doctors to make your mask work for you, but bottom line is there are options and I hope you find one that works.
HI Nikki! It's so great to see you here, thanks so much for all your support =)
I'm here from Brian's channel, I just subscribed thanks.

What a kind and thoughtful comment Shadow X, you are awesome!
Well done! I have been using sleep meds for about 13 years (temazepam, zolpidem). Will you be doing any videos on how well CBT-I works? I would like to get off this medication someday.

Did you upload this late on purpose for us night owls?? 😂
LOL... yes, I debated releasing it tomorrow morning, but figured, it’s more useful to release it now, for the target audience. People who are up and staring at their phones when they should be sleeping. I’m a night owl myself, average bedtime 12-1am. Hope you get some rest! Thanks for the funny comment

Hi Althea =) it's so great to see you here, thank you so much for your support =)
I can't imagine taking Benzos for sleep. My doctor prescribed Trazodone, which is actually an ancient anti-depressant, but has sleep as an off-label use. It works great for me. I take the Trazodone about 1-2 hours before bed, watch some relaxing videos, and more often than not I'll fall asleep in the chair after 5 minutes.
Here because of your lovely and handsome brother, Brain!

I've been suffering with insomnia for years but now more than ever because all I do is worry. About how to pay the rent, pay the car note and insurance and now food is a luxury. I'm on Social Security, 71 y/o and have no one to help me. Theres no answer to these problems. And the government sucks.
Agreed Susan, the government is definitely not making our lives easier!
Thanks I fell asleep watching this

i sleep really late but most of the time i get a lot of sleep, but i hate waking up at like 3 or 5pm

What are your thoughts on ASMR for sleep or Binaural beats?
we need several ways. one size does bot fit all.
Can we drink sleepy tea a couple of hours before sleeping?
Tea as part of your bedtime routine is no problem as long as you stick with the ones that don’t have caffeine or minimal caffeine like chamomile. There’s mixed evidence how effective it is, but more than likely it’s more about the routine of getting into a relaxed, calm mood, and if chamomile helps, then go for it. I would just avoid teas high in caffeine like Black teas and a specific green tea called Matcha green tea. Hope that helps.
I have a question how do I taper myself off pain pills without really bad withdrawal
Brian sent me...I’m all stressed out.cant sleep I’m worried that I’m gonna lose my house
Hello! Don't know if you can help me with information on this. My Doctor put me on Gabapentin 6 months ago. It really helps with my pain but about 2 months ago I started to have sleeping issues. I take my Gabapentin at 9 at night it makes me really tired alseep by 10 but waking up around 1 in the morning and can't fall back to sleep! This didn't start until 2 months ago. Gabapentin is most recent medicine that have been put on don't know if it has anything to do with my sleep issues? Thank you.
5:30 am rn. Whoops
I can't function without sleep and causes my body to have aches and pain after 2-3 nights without sleep.
Lots of people can fall asleep "fast". They die in droves on the highway every holiday season. Staying asleep is the headline you need to do--and accitents may stop happening-- at this source...HOPE is the only issue. Anybody will eventually faint if truly exhausted. Then, they can't sleep...again. DUH. Hope to sleep? Don't talk about FAST, it is insincere. Yes you can get clicks... it is easy to repeat text from school. Courage is when your sought out experience leads YOU to have an answer. THis since you propose to know, and expect remuneration here.
I have insomnia now. My first time ever I have been up since yesterday 😭
I hope you have gotten some sleep since you made this comment.
I did. I started to pack I took the whole day. Took a nice shower and finally fell asleep by 2am woke up nice and fresh in the morning. I was so happy. Thank you
Glad you got some rest!
I've been an insomniac since 2003. I've had sleep hygiene since. No help for me. It's miserable. It's great for some people. Hopeless for me it seems.
This long ass video finna make me fall asleep😂😂😴😴

Do you believe sleeping with a teddy bear helps?
Yes. Fact.

I fell asleep reading your comment.
Dear Dr. Kim:
My husband has a Job and presently is working from home, but he is often in the Hospital with a Serious Physical Condition. We live in Virginia. Can he file for SSDI and how long will it take for him to be approved for SSDI? I have a Job and my Employer wants me to come into Work now. However I have Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma and had Heart Surgery; I am concerned that I would be more likely to DIE if I catch COVID-19. Are my concerns well-founded? If I Quit my Job or get fired for staying home due to COVID-19 concerns, can I collect Unemployment? We are in Dire Straits Healthwise and Financially.
Thank you so very much for your help.
drs. do not give time. they do not want to treat insomnia .... i paied 100 pound for appt. to see a dr. to help me with sleep and got nothing.
Smoke some good weed
The debt collector what’s your personal preference? Indica? Hybrid? You would think most people would say straight up indica, but I have plenty of patients who still like a hybrid.
@@AndrewKimMD indica 4 sure especially 4 sleep
The debt collector yup, it surprises me when some of my patients say they want something other than indica at night, but to each his own. Not an indica fan myself in general. But that’s probably because I wouldn’t sleep if I could get away with it.
@@AndrewKimMD That's awesome you're definitely a cool ass doctor. I smoke wax sometimes too when I really have trouble sleeping
What concentration is the wax?
New subscriber here. I have had insomnia since a young child as far as I can remember. I remember being at 5-6 years old and my brain would just spin of events of my daytime experiences. I couldn’t shut it off. My parents divorced at age 9 and I was back and forth between my Dad and Mom many times up until age 15. I’m now 55 years old and have trouble with falling and staying asleep. 23 years ago I started taking Ambien and after a couple years on it, it didn’t work anymore. I have stopped it months to years at a time only to go back at it. The generic never has worked for me. The brand worked off and on. After explaining a small amount of my history, since my insomnia began at such an early age, do you think it is my brain chemistry? Are there certain Doctors that I could contact that could help me? I sleep 2-3 hours a night and since covid stress (and more) my anxiety has increased dramatically. Every night for the last 2 1/2 years, I sleep in 60-90 minute sleep cycles. I do dream a lot off and on during these cycles. If I’m exhausted, I can fall back to sleep within 15-30 minutes. My brain does what I call LOOPING. My term for my brain thinking about EVERYTHING especially past memories and I’m just unable to shut it off. It’s severally debilitating and I don’t know where to go or who to trust. Have had negative experiences with several psychiatrists in my past. Starting with the ones who gave me Benzos, SSRI for 23 years until I weaned off and stopped in 2014. I stopped after cymbalta use of 60mg day for like 6-7 years. Was hell but I did it. Please help recommend some type of therapy or special physician. Love your channel and looking forward to learning new information. Trouble retaining new knowledge too. I’m a retired RN and on disability the last 12 years for autoimmune disorders. God Bless. 🙏😊
