I've been waiting a while to do a Tool cover so I figured I'd just go for it since it's been requested by lots of folks and I'm excited to share it with you all. Schism is an obvious classic and it might be one of Tool's easier songs but it's still pretty difficult to get the fills down correctly. My rendition isn't perfect but I certainly tried my best!
Tool has been an endless source of inspiration for me as a drummer and a musician. Danny Carey is one of progressive rock's household names so I have major respect for him and consider him one of my drumming idols.

A way a figured to play this in a more linear fashion is add 5/8 + 7/8 = 12/8, which basically 4/4 but in a triplet ir dotted quarter note feel. But that only encompasses the first half of the song, and not to mention the transitions of frases in 6/8.

I perfectly understand everybody's concern here and each comment might or might not have a point. Still, I believe we all should make a difference between this man's drumming and his diet. For the sole purpose of honoring the original intent of the video, I strongly recommend discussing the uploader's drumming skills (assuming participants know what they're talking about) and saving arguments on the man's eating habits to a video where it is appropriate to do so. IMO this is not the right forum here. The uploader is clearly able to put drumming videos at our disposal so if he ever wanted to hear our opinions on his diet he would have invited us.

When somebody is an alcoholic or addicted to drugs for example it is socially totally accepted to tell them to Stop that shit since its ruining their lives. I think obesity should be looked at the same way. When you live at a healthy weight not only will you live longer but more importantly your quality of life increases by a million. Of course its shitty to do it over the Internet but when you are concerned for someone you like and want to be healthy and around longer than just the next 20 years then you should speak out. Its way too common in These days go just not care about other people. But i get that its off topic and you could say "none of my buisnes" However This is not shaming its caring. Compare yourself to others to give you a reason to get better, maybe you're not suited for odd times songs with weird patterns, then play simple but play well, and upp zhe difficulty little by little. It's all too easy to say that you die in the inside when you see people playing better than you, go to your drums and play, this way you'll get it eventually

I like the sound of the snare. I know what you mean about hearing that kinda hollow thud tom sound underneath, but to me it sounds like another layer that can be hard to attain sometimes. I personally use a Pork Pie brass patina snare cranked pretty tight alot though so it's an acquired taste I guess.
Thought the toms were tuned great for this song. Don't hear any ass...
Cymbals sound great...the bell might be the weakest link if I was nit picking. I like a dry bell. But I'm the kinda person that takes my cymbals to the store with me to match pitch and stuff.
But overall I Ilked everything. Playing guitar as well maybe gives me a different perspective on tone and sound, especially with all the other instruments blending together in a band. I play bass and sing too. Other instruments as well. I'm probably most natural with drums and rhythm though. Why play one instrument when you can play them all? It certainly makes me more versatile and busy on the weekends.

Dude you say it's not perfect I beg to differ... you nailed it
being a musician myself although predominantly a guitar player I still play the drums and I know what kind of dedication it takes to learn a musical composition wrote from a entirely different human being than yourself which alone is a great feat duplicating expressive art of another takes a higher level of brilliance and a whole lot of patience but to knock it out of the park like you did and effortless also the vibe you put off by simply feeling the groove and going to your happy place inspired me to sit down and delve into the guitar part of this masterpiece, hopefully I can go to my happy place and let the education of musical greatness sink as far in as it obviously did for you
I want to say thanks for a breath of fresh air in the stench of society these days.
You know, when you can't believe a damn thing you hear and only a quarter of what you see ....... it sure gives you a sense of hope to witness genuine dedication and humble success in making the near impossible look easy and effortless !!!
    BRAVO TO YOU SIR
    verry well done

My dude absolutely tore up this cover, this is what I imagine being one of tools more difficult songs and he played it off like it was nothing. Absolutely fantastic job!!

I never relized how technical this song was on the drums untill seeing this video. Ive been listening to this so for about 15 years now.

Dude has some skills. If this guy is trying to lose weight this way, I think it's a dope way to do it and hope he hits his goals. I'll be subbing for some more.

He can definitely lose weight drumming, but if he eats in the same way that got him to this point, he could play 24/7 and not lose weight. You can't out-drum a bad diet.
