Lyrics:
I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lover's souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end crippling our communication
I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame, it doesn't mean I don't desire
To point the finger, blame the other, watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together, rediscover communication
The poetry that comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it
Finding beauty in the dissonance
There was a time that the pieces fit, but I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering, strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know the dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow and strengthen our communication
(Cold, cold, cold) cold silence has
A tendency to
Atrophy any

this is so true
It's actually a heartfelt piece about how a relationship erodes over time and communication breaks down, and the urge to tear it all apart and throw it away at times, when all your soul really wants is to make things whole and well again, and to reestablish the understanding you once shared.
Incredibly well put
I love the way you described the feeling the song gives. The eradication of the modern relationship due to both individuals lack of understanding what the other really wants.
Was looking for this comment. I'm inexperienced in the Tool world, but's that's the same feeling I get with the meaning behind the song.

This song is about two hard headed egos who can’t grow together, until they communicate. Communication is the answer to the schism.
No it’s a safety seminar on why acid is bad
It's also about the alchemical principle of the primordial androgyne, the communication between mind and matter, the recombination of opposites, the sexes. Res Bina, Rebis, Hermaphrodite. Jakin and Bohas /Jachin and Boaz/, Mercury and Sulphur. The Androgyne or Hermaphrodite, the pillars, the Res Bina, signify the prerequisite to the creation of the Great Work.
No, It's about LEGO!. "I know the pieces fit cuse i watched them fall away", "I know the pieces fit because i watched them tumble down", Hello!
How about, It's just a cool song that we all like?
The video has a very alchemical and/or esoteric background to it, there was this whole text written about it, I will link to it if I find it again, but basically the woman is mind and the man is the body, they must be one in order to "square the circle". To square the circle is an idiom which originated from alchemy, it basically means to perfect something. The whole video focuses on what both mind and body do before they become one in the very end.

I'm 46 years old, I know a lot about music, I've listened to everything there is, all genres of music, I'm a big fan of Metallica, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Faith No More, and a lot of electronic music, from Jazz, Drum n Bass, Bands like Massive Attack, Stero MCs, Depeche Mode and I won't go on because I could do it until tomorrow. It's interesting that I knew about Tool all the time and it's one of the few bands I never heard or gave them a chance. I listen to Fear Inoculum since the first day when it came out, I haven't moved away from it.. Until 10 days ago when I decided to listen to the other albums while walking on the street or in the countryside.. What I want to say is that I was speechless by the quality of the rhythms, passionate and infectious riffs and of course the technique and production itself. I want to say that regardless of the lost time, I am so happy and excited that at the age of 46 I have the privilege of listening to Tool as my dearest music that accompanies me day by day even in my dreams, I am totally obsessed with music ..Absolute perversion and art.. Now of course my mission is to transfer my experience to everyone who does not know the miracle called Tool.. Thank you life!

Why must thou laugh in the face of curiosity and anger? To cast by thy name shall set us unto thee atmosphere of inner senses. Thy must not speak of the truth, Aristotle taught, but thou must speak by thy's name rather than thy's thighs. Truth is only truth if truth is a truthfully truthful truth. Sad days begoneth, sadly thou shall not cast away what thy's mother has engulfed; as this act contributes to the melancholy of inner sense. In modern times, the only thing thou must be concerned with, is the.. erm.. width of thy's belly; as a hugeth belly could possibly awaken thou. Thou is an entity not known to thy but not known to thou or thigh either.
The art of reason is not within reason, as reasonable reason would not be reasonably reasonable, but rather unreasonably unreasonable, and thou does not beg to differ from thy's thighs. One could only imagine a possibility of a rather unreasonable reason to reason with unreason; thou must start the next ice age! Speaking of ice age, thy must not speak of ice; as the only ice of reason is that of thy's thighs. Why art thou not a tool, but rather a weapon? Thy must consider a "weapon" a tool; as weapons are known to begoneth of untools, but thy must understand that the weapon must not disposeth of thy's thighs; but the weapon must only be used to begoneth of thou's pet uncle. Using thy's weapon with intentions of disposing of thy's thighs shall only be viewed as unreasonably unreasonable reason.

No cuz I seriously had a slow long giggle about this comment
How dare you.
It is so easy to loose your love of someone cos neither of you can talk right. A lack of proper communication creates enemies. This song is so basic and yet so powerful.
The poetry of this song is so eloquent and precise for describing the deterioration of relationships (of any kind really). It’s perfection. Every time I hear it I can relive any break up. It’s a masterpiece. Where once the pieces fit, through lack of communication and a crumbling of compassion they no longer do. Isn’t that the truth?
It is indeed a sad truth. I'm in it right now and trying to explain to my partner as to why it's happening, but it feels like he only wants to dig a deeper hole and keep on blaming. :/ What can I do?
@@laitan3615 Uuummm... I don't think Tool spells their name with a zero. Nice try
To really love is to really listen
@@loganocchionero6621 what zero?
Yup. Just got over with a relationship with an incredible gal, and at the end is was just like the last verse on the song. After all was said and done All I could do was to remember this song and laugh like a maniac.
63 years old and still loving every minute of each song Tool sings. Such great music and lyrics.
Still rocking from the nursing home...that's awesome!
53 here and I couldn't agree more!

Dude, I was 59 when I was enlightened. Better late than never.
62 and totally agree with you!
This was song was inspired by trying to put some IKEA furniture together with a friend. True story.
My brother absolutely loved this song, he always talked about. He's been gone 14 years in June and this song instantly brings me back to sitting in the car blasting this on two 12in subwoofers. Miss you brother, just like this song you will always love on!!!
This is my "test new headphones song" lol
@@afez7101 right now I have 2 Dewalt pairs. They're definitely not trendy, but they work really well. My favorite of the two is the DeWalt- 190 2091 DW2 Jobsite Pro Wireless Earphones. They have a neck band and a really good mic. The sound quality is pretty fantastic and theyre durable and have a warranty because they're meant for jobsites. The others are the dewalt wireless noise cancelling earbuds, but the mic sucks. I can't use them for phone calls, everyone says it's echoed and broken up. Both batteries are fantastic. They're 10+ hours but there are times that they last up to 20 hours for me without a charge.
hi :)
@mike Durry ??? Yes. It is. I don't exactly understand why you chimed in when you're completely wrong.
@mike Durry and where exactly was my lie?
😂😂

i was late to tool but loved them ever since. fear inoculum took up untill today for me to love it though i couldn't wait for it to come out. been listening to all other albums since 2003
"Finding beauty in the dissonance" :)
billie eilish: im wierd
tool: hold my dmt
Billie wants to be weird. Tool just is.
Please dont include eilissh with TOOL ever again. Goodbye
This comment is on every tool video....be original lol

Thought they were weird, until my husband sang it....then all the pieces fit
This song is comfort
Producer: "How weird do you want this music video?"
Tool: "Just keep this one normal, thanks!
Reading so many commenters completely confused, baffled and sadly ultimately dismissive of all the juicy aesthetic meaning of the video that I wanna throw my 2 cents in. To many the video is purely abstract, but I see it as quite relevant to the message. The whole concept of the song is about COMMUNICATION and how the pitfalls of it breaking down can tear apart relationships (Miscommunication=Schism). Starts out with the creature's feet sinking in the ground below them, and appearing somewhere else upside down like "wormhole quicksand"; as if, your foundation has disappeared and your center of gravity is completely off. Then one of the creatures is seen attempting to almost "write" using the other creatures head as their pen/pencil (as if they were imposing their views on the other). It gets so bad that we go into the EAR (the listening tool) and inside the blood of the creature we see small "cancer-like" creatures. They come out into the real world (inner fear manifesting outward) and torment their previous hosts with their BIG MOUTHS (speaking tool) biting, clinging, as if "if we can't figure out how to communicate properly, its gonna come back to bite us". Then it all ends with the nightmarish shot of the 2 creatures blended into 1, as if maybe that's what it looks like when communication really fails and people become co-dependent and cant get out of it; unlike when the pieces really FIT. ....just my surreal interpretation. Do with it what you will. I LOVE all of their videos, LOTS to chew, digest and communicate about.
Love it. So happy tool made it to 2019 so we could have these discussions outside the toolshed.
Jane Lane Sure thing! I’ve always loved their videos and love how layered they are with subtext and meaning.
theyre just having fun man. no explanation needed
cam0techunks Well, yea, I have fun also when I’m creating any kind of art with a good budget. Art is fun. Why wouldn’t it also be fun to analyze art? It is for me.
@@g.danielvelazquez7494 you're probably right, but do you expect every audience understand the "art"? most of those who dnt understand will see the fun/ weird side of it. that's probably normal.
if you understand the art side of it, good. but if your able to understand both side of the equation, then much better😉
and yeah. i didn't stumbled here for nothing, i too dig tool and bored with today's music scene😁. i see a lot of these fun side comments they're mostly from kids who didnt get to know the music scene of our time. just let them be
Who wants to see Rush and Tool get together?
