    Holy shit this guy is literally like the ideal studio drummer. While other drummers on this show have put on more technical performances for sure, the way he so quickly zeroed in on the song structure, the parts needed for each section, and created such a detailed chart on just 2 listens that he was able to nail the first take like he knew the song. THEN HE DID MORE TAKES. This is the guy I want in the studio with me.

    • @rebel4466

      While he did a different style, I actually really enjoy it. At some points it even has a harder sound because "less is more".

    • @CS-px9rr
      @CS-px9rr 23 дні тому +3

      His drum work on Joe Satriani's The Extremist fit the songs perfectly.

I don't know if he'll see this but he used to attend a drum school at a university in the South of England as a guest tutor regularly (I don't know if he still does). I worked security there for many a year and Gregg arrived from the US late one night. We got him checked in and to his room. A little bit later on he popped down to the office and asked if he could borrow our fan as it was too hot and he was having trouble sleeping (it being the height of summer and all). He returned it the next day with thanks. The amazing the part is that the next year he came to the same drum school, turned up late in the evening again, saw me and greeted me like an old friend! Even remembered my name (Jon). Such a nice guy and true gent!

      EDIT 1: as already mentioned in the comments, „really easy“ is an exaggeration on my part, but I think it’s very doable. I agree that this was a poor choice of words. Still, imo, the bass drum part is not the genius of this groove but playing the hihat and snare on top of it that fucks you.
      EDIT 2: I got what you meant with your comment, writing „to be fair“ does not mean I disagree, I simply had something to share about this drum part. My intention was not to put this guy down. Don’t appreciate the hostility to be honest

I'm a chick who's been obsessed with SOAD for 25 years, and transposed a clarinet solo out of their music for an audition around ~2002. It worked! I got the gig! 😂 Their songs are so complex, but every little choice matters. My favorite part is hearing the drummer say, “that was way cooler. I should’ve played it like that” so awesome. Keep it coming Drumeo! 🤘🏽
