Have i researched correctly as i cant find any similar issues with the 1.6 hdi and 2.0 litre versions? Any other known issues on the 1.6 hdi and 2.0 i should look out for?
Hey 👋 the 1.6 and the 2.0 are older engines and have a normal cambelt, the wet belt will be ok if it’s serviced regularly and you change the belt when it’s required. So I wouldn’t let it put you off as if you consider all 3 as a option then your range of choice will be higher and you could get a much better car/deal hope that helps let me know what you decide to go for 👍
@@MrAutoFixer Thanks for the answer! Which one would you consider the most reliable of the options? And if you know, what is the average lifespan of the wet belt if serviced yearly?
@Tvallari the 1.6 and 2.0 have been around for a long time and are good engines. As long as you find one that’s got good service history and is well looked after with would be good, The cam belts on all the engines should be changed every 5 years or 70k or around that mark you will have to check the schedules 👍
Great video, thanks. It you would be so kind if you could answer my query. My wife has got a 2018 DS3. We bought it brand new with Zero miles. It has done 8,500 Miles currently. (yes... eight thousand) It has a service, oil change every 12 months. Should we be worried about the belt at this point? Thank you.
Hey that’s nice and low milage, but I would still have the belt changed at the 5 year mark, as the belt deterioration will still happen over time as well as usage. So I would have it done if it was mine 👍
My cambelt for my citeron c1 is due to be changed and running fine. Would i still need the sump to come off to check the oil strainer or if im having no issues there is no point?
If your c1 has a wet belt and had been serviced regularly, and your oil light goes out fast when you start the engine then I would say no you don’t need the sump off 👍
Deffo has a wet belt which has now become the main of my life. I've had a few garages insist it needs to come off to be cleaned . Citeron don't include taking off the sump as part of their price which was vastly cheaper then the other garages! Thank you though!
@user-nf2qo1bm8s well it’s not much extra work to take the sump off but you will need to change your oil and oil filter also so that’s going to be the extra cost. You should be looking at around £550 for the whole lot, 👍
Great video. I have the Citroën C4 1.2 to do. Do you have the number for the locking tools or a link to where to buy would be excellent. Also, did you use a kit or just replace the belt alone?
Hey thanks ☺️, I used a genuine kit from main dealer, and the timing tool I don’t have a link too but you can get them on eBay or Amazon just search for your engine and should fine a load of them 👍
This looks like a trained Citroen mechanic job. So complicated for what is, in principle, a simple job. No wonder they say the things they do about French cars. :) Would your average non franchised garage have the know-how, would you think?
Hey once the engine is timed up the belt can only go on in the grooves that are there so no chance of getting it out of time if it’s timed up correctly in the first place. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching

Such a shame as when running well these engines are great. Very frugal on fuel. I suppose this procedure will become second nature for most mechanics as there are so many of these engines out there, and they are still selling them in new cars!
Yh that’s right when running good they are ok ! But such a bad design really, they are all now reaching the age where they need replacing so will become common practice for most👍
I want to remove the oil sump to do a good clean, but to install again with a new "silicone gasket" i need to know what the torque for the bolt of the oil sump and the sequence of bolt. Does any know?
@@MrAutoFixer yes...i know, usually i find some info in the net, but related to this engine no. A few weeks ago I needed to do the same thing in a mini cooper 2010 1.6 petrol n12 engine and find that was 12nm and a criss cross pattern and after 1000miles everything is clean with no leaks. Can I use the same criss cross pattern sequence? What about the torque? What torque did you use?
@JoaoMadureira-ht5nk if it’s a steel sump then it’s 8nm if it’s a aluminium sump then it’s 10nm and there is not a pattern suggested to follow I always just get all bolts finger tight then tighten down evenly. 👍

It doesn’t make a difference, but if that’s your preference then that’s cool, most oil filters are at angles or upside down so you wouldn’t be able to fill them first anyway. So it’s fine not to fill before fitting 👍
Hi thanks for this video. I have a friend who has a 1.2 puretech in a Peugeot 308 that keeps getting a p0011 code. The belt was changed at main dealer in September not sure of history before ownership. Have changed both solenoids with China specials but still getting the code :-( Do we know what the logic is to throw a p0011 is it when the dephaser is being controlled and the cam sensor does not see the changes in timing that have been commanded? If that is the case then maybe we have poor oil flow rather than pressure due to sump pick up being blocked? @ Mr Auto Fixer do you think I can use 5.5mm diameter camera through oil drain to inspect the strainer? The camera I have has a lens on the side and is of good picture quality. Look like location is doable but will depend on distant between bottom of sump and pick up. Or am I barking up wrong tree reference the p0011
Hey 👋 thanks for reaching out The most common cause of this code is a faulty timing belt or camshaft sensor. It can also be caused by an oil leak in the VVT system, or worn engine components such as spark plugs, valves, and gaskets. If the fault code is caused by worn engine components, they need to be replaced. If the error is due to an oil leak in the VVT system, then this needs to be addressed and repaired. The camshaft sensor may also need to be replaced. If the belt was done at main dealer it may be worth giving them a call and see if they will sort it under some kind or warranty ? Thanks
@@MrAutoFixer Yes was thinking send it back to dealer. Would put the factory solenoids back on as likely they will blame the China specials but would put them back with them swapped in position to see if code moves. The screens did not have any debris on them. Do you know how to test for oil leaks in the VVT? Do you know if the cam sensor can be swapped position to establish if cam sensor issue. Not sure why but in the back of my mind I think the logic to throw the error is detection of camshaft not responding to the commanded advance or retard but I think there is also a phaser error code that would possibly debunk this. Deffo a pain and could end up a money pit.
Just has another thought suggested the owner gets an autel AP200 hopefully that can monitor the actual cam position versus commanded. We could then apply 12volts to the valve and see if it makes the actual position change. Assume this would just be 12 volt external source onto the pins of the solenoid. However I am not sure if this is a good idea as could we run the risk of valve to piston damage.
@grahamh6444 if you get it on the right diagnostic equipment it will be able to test the solenoid and see if it is within tolerance, sometimes that fault is caused by the cams wearing, there are a few videos on here about that also. I would get the original solenoids put back in and have that dealer run the tests first as they will have the best equipment.
Thanks god and people, I searched , watched videos and changed my mind. I was about to buy Opel Corsa 1.2 Gs or Ultimate. I'm gonna buy a "non-innovative" engine car.
Is this still a problem with the more recent models of c3 aircross? Are they still wet belts on the 2022 1.2 pure tech c 3 aircross? No info out there at all!
Yes there are many things the engineers could’ve done to prevent a lot of this damage but as you say they don’t care they just design an engine and put it out and it’s up to the customer to deal with the repercussions unfortunately

I bought an Opel Crossland for my daughter with same engine. The engine needed replacement at 63 000km. This was done under the guarantee. I got rid of it immediately. This engine should not be used by Stellantis anymore. Do not buy.
One of the main problems once these cars come out of warranty, is many garages just fit crap the likes of Euro Car Parts supply. Garages can buy the Genuine belt inspection tool and should be checking this on every service the car has (Yearly or 10k, whicever is 1st), not when it hits an oil pressure problem. These engines are smooth, economic and are made the way they are that enables them to pass emission requirements. I'd stick to Genuine belts with Approved Oil and Genuine Oil Filters. (doesnt appear so here?). Multiple parts such as timing sprocket bolts, end caps, crank pulley bolts (6 outta and main inner), crank seal, tensioner cover and evap seals should be replaced as a minimum since they are coming off. Vacuum pump and timing solenoids (x2) have gauze filters that should be inspected, cleaned and have the gaskets replaced also. Punters and garage's need to stop cutting corners and blaming the manufacturers for not maintaining these properly.

As long as you find one that’s got good service history and is well looked after with would be good,
The cam belts on all the engines should be changed every 5 years or 70k or around that mark you will have to check the schedules 👍
@@MrAutoFixer Thank you for taking the time! I'll let you know which one i end up buying if i decide to go for a Picasso/spacetourer 🙏
@@Tvallari no problem hope you get a good deal 👍
How much can I expect to pay for a job like this on my grandland I didn’t no it had a pure tech engine in when I brought if I did I wouldn’t of
Hey obviously prices do vary depending on location and parts quality etc, but I would expect around 6-800 should be the range for this job 👍
Great video! Could you recommend the oil to use and the intervals you would prefer for a long life of the belt?
A decent quality 0W-20 oil should be used. And I would recommend an oil change at least once a year or 12k miles which ever comes first. 👍
Great video, thanks.
It you would be so kind if you could answer my query.
My wife has got a 2018 DS3.
We bought it brand new with Zero miles.
It has done 8,500 Miles currently. (yes... eight thousand)
It has a service, oil change every 12 months.
Should we be worried about the belt at this point?
Thank you.
Hey that’s nice and low milage, but I would still have the belt changed at the 5 year mark, as the belt deterioration will still happen over time as well as usage.
So I would have it done if it was mine 👍
Thanks very much. What ball park figure would that be please? ...and will it need water pump too. Thank you.
@bobmartin5101 no it doesn’t need water pump as they are not driven by the Cambelt on this model, and ball park would be 4-5 hundred 👍
@@MrAutoFixer Many thanks. best wishes.
Hi could u tell me how to time up this engine plz
Hi it’s all explained in the video mate 👍
I’ve got the Peugeot 308 1.2 puretech do I have to take the engine out to remove the oil pump?
@nathwin3843 hey I wouldn’t have thought so? 👍
My cambelt for my citeron c1 is due to be changed and running fine.
*bane of my life
@user-nf2qo1bm8s well it’s not much extra work to take the sump off but you will need to change your oil and oil filter also so that’s going to be the extra cost. You should be looking at around £550 for the whole lot, 👍
Are the replacement belts better able to resist the oil?
The new belt was a genuine part so unless the dealer has upgraded them somehow they will be the same 👍
Great video. I have the Citroën C4 1.2 to do. Do you have the number for the locking tools or a link to where to buy would be excellent. Also, did you use a kit or just replace the belt alone?
Hey thanks ☺️, I used a genuine kit from main dealer, and the timing tool I don’t have a link too but you can get them on eBay or Amazon just search for your engine and should fine a load of them 👍
How many miles did the car have on it?
I can’t ember exactly but it was either 40 or 50k on the clock 👍
Why don't the pieces of debris stop in the filter?
It’s because of the bad design the bits can get everywhere and cause issues 🤦♂️
This looks like a trained Citroen mechanic job. So complicated for what is, in principle, a simple job. No wonder they say the things they do about French cars. :)
Would your average non franchised garage have the know-how, would you think?
Hey 👋 yes these belts are getting a lot more complicated, but most garages should have at least one person that does all the cam belts.
👍
Theses are pretty simple. I've done about 10 now, and with the sump off and clean, it can be done in 3hrs.
@@stephenreed1080 there all simple
When you know how and have the right tools 👍
You think this one is difficult, try a Ford ecoboom!!!!!!
@robertday8619 Yh I agree they are much worse !!! 👍
Will the belt only fit in one position? Or is it possible to fit one tooth out?
Hey once the engine is timed up the belt can only go on in the grooves that are there so no chance of getting it out of time if it’s timed up correctly in the first place. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching
@@MrAutoFixer Thanks. I only wondered because I had a new timing belt fitted to a K-Series engine (in a Caterham) which was one tooth out. Ran fine, but the emissions were all over the place!
@ianbarnes961 Yh that’s old skool and easy to get the timing out but these new ones it would be hard to mess up 👍
Do you put sealant on the metal rocker cover
Hey yes you use a sealant on them parts 👍
@@MrAutoFixer thank you, got one to do tomorrow
@northeastcrow586 oh nice 👌 hope it goes well for ya let me know how you get on 👍

I have no idea but they were obviously having a laugh up the pub and come up

How much would something like this cost am having problems with my 3008. If I was to take it the a garage
Hey you would be looking at around £600 for the whole lot 👍
@@MrAutoFixer would the oil pressure fault be on all the time if this was the problem as it’s only happened twice to me and goes into limp home mode but fine again when I turn car on and off
@@stxduffer3974 as the problem starts the oil light will come on intermittently and gradually get worse as the strainer gets more blocked up best thing you can do is go have it checked or changed asap 👍

Just been quoted £800- from Citroen to have this done on 2020 C3 Aircross.. I can see why now what’s involved !!!!
Hey 👋 thanks for watching 👍
And the cost for this repair? I have a 2019 Peugeot 208, 1.2 engine type HNP, GT Line. My oil pressure has just come on with fault code P15A8.

Alot of these belts have had a recall i know mine has
@jasonwhitehead8575 yes defo worth checking with dealer to see if there are any outstanding recalls
hello, I have the same car as you have the same mileage and the same year. Can you tell me how many kilometers you had before the defect appeared, I'm very interested.
Thanks in advance
@patrickarroues789 hi this happened at just 40k miles one you see any fault or oil pressure fault you should get it checked out right away 👍
Hi I look all my stuff up on software but need a reg for that, your best off doing a Google search for the figures. 👍
@@MrAutoFixer I am not a mechanic so lots of info missing my knowledge, but I do like to do things right and by my own.
So thank you very much your help! I keep doing this type of videos with quality...very useful and very didactic. 👍
@JoaoMadureira-ht5nk happy to help, good luck with the repairs and thank you ☺️
Would it not be better to fill the oil filter with oil before fitting it ? Thats what i do with every oil and filter change,
It doesn’t make a difference, but if that’s your preference then that’s cool, most oil filters are at angles or upside down so you wouldn’t be able to fill them first anyway. So it’s fine not to fill before fitting 👍
Dove si trova l’interruttore pressione olio ?
Anyone translate ?
Hey 👋 thanks for reaching out
The most common cause of this code is a faulty timing belt or camshaft sensor.
@@MrAutoFixer Thanks

The engineers could have made a partition between the belt and the motor with mesh, that would have solved the problem, I guess they just don't care
Yes there are many things the engineers could’ve done to prevent a lot of this damage but as you say they don’t care they just design an engine and put it out and it’s up to the customer to deal with the repercussions unfortunately
I m just Worried with this Extensive Engine Work
The Engine will never be the same again 🤷🤦
It's almost like a Full Engine rebuild🤔

99% Mechanics can dismantle a Engine however not all can put it back Exactly the way it was 🤔🙄😊
It should fine it’s not quite like a engine rebuild, this is just general maintenance now for newer engines 👍
@@MrAutoFixer I m part of peugeot forum and there's Owners reporting after 1500 miles after they change the Cambelt engine expericed issues and error messages came

Why the engineer put the belt soak with oil that is not intelligent
I agree not the best idea !
i know you have to stay neutral with these jobs and have to keep your personal opinions Quiet, but for me and many others, what an Absolute Terrible idea for an engine, who in the world thought it was a good idea to run a rubber belt through oil.. My brother has a 2020 Peugeot 208 with the Pure-Scrap 1.2 engine, his destroyed itself after 30 odd thousand miles, Peugeot had to replace the engine, soon as he got it back i told him he needs to get rid of that car, he took it to a couple of places to get a value on it, but both places said they wouldn't even offer him anything for it, they told him they don't buy or trade any car with that engine in because it's too high risk.
Hey 👋 yes I’m hearing this a lot now, there are many places that won’t buy them or sell them as they end up costing too much to repair! It is a bad design and I hope they sort it out soon !!!
@@MrAutoFixer it's such a shame as well because his 208 is a lovely car, i've been in it and it's really nice and comfortable, the engine is nice and responsive, but he said he can't risk keeping it with that engine in. i told him to fit a Suzuki Hayabusa Engine in and have done with it lol..
Yh they do need regular maintenance to have any chance of surviving! And yes a bussa engine would be fun for sure 👌

Do not buy.
Yes we hear this all to often sadly!
Rubbish engine design, got same issue on my Crossland X at 46k miles, will never ever buy car with French engine again!
Yes that’s right, lots of people saying the same thing 👍
Hey thanks for watching!
